Faceless Hunter #1
Faceless Hunter
Xen isn't your typical Hunter. In fact, he isn't human at all.
A dungeon raid orchestrated by the daughter of the Stormbringers Guildmaster goes tragically wrong, resulting in an unprecedented event—Xen, a rare mind-eating slime, absorbs a fallen Hunter's memories, granting him not only knowledge a monster should never possess but also access to the human class system.
The very system designed to help humans fight his kind.
Granted the unique [Shapeshifter] class, he can take on the forms of any living being he eats and also learn their skills. In a world where most Hunters are limited to a few skills, he alone can possess a seemingly unlimited number. Using this advantage, he will not only conquer the World Dungeon that spans between continents but also make use of his shapeshifting to infiltrate human society.
Despite being the enemy of both humans and monsters, nothing will stop Xen's rise to power. After all, the most dangerous of foes is the one that wears many faces—plays both sides—and reaps all the benefits.

April 8, 2026DNF. This is a dungeon delving story. It's not what I wanted to read. At one point I expected MC to find its way to the surface, take Gerald's identity, feed the cat and deal with the world. That would have been interesting. Probably come back to delve later. Instead he doubled down on the delving, met people, delved more. Kill monsters, evolve, kill monsters, evolve, killonstersevolvekillmonstersevolvekillmonstersevolve ad neuseum. I skipped forward and it's more of the same. No thanks.
You can't have your MC let an elderly cat starve to death and expect me to follow your boring mechanics. Nope.

Fine
Overall this book was fine. Not the best I've read from this author and not the worst in the genre. To me, however, it lacks soul.
We don't see the MC struggle in the beginning and he seems to speed run into being OP. In fact, the whole time scale feels fast as magic appeared 20 years ago and there are already individuals strong enough to threaten countries.
Guilds & corporations appear to rule now, yet 99% of characters seem to be selfish to the point of letting others suffer if it's an inconvenience to them. Even the 'good guys readily accept murder of innocents (individuals who were polite with them and not at all hostile) just because it would make their own future slightly better. There's no moral contrast for the 'anti hero' MC if everyone is, by default, horrible to each other and selfish.
The MC also never really seems to be at risk outside a few 'tense' early fights that ultimately work out in his favor.
I like this author, and the story had potential so I'll probably pick up the sequel eventually to see if this was just a character setup novel, but it won't be at the top of my list.

Golly Gee Dbl Dangling Dag-Nabbits! At least...
at least you are aware that you of the challenges of self publishing a novel without the assistance of a publisher but,
But by the Twisted, Grey, Dangling Nutsack Hairs of the Spirits Dungeon Progressions!
Dude! You Really, Rilly, Reelly
need someone (anyone! to proofread your mental shittake mushrooms!
For Proper:
* Word use
* Sentence construction.
Interestingly, the # of misspelled words was low.
But the # count of poorly constructed sentences was Too. Dang. High.
Now having had my rant I gotta also say:
Great Idea 💡!
Good Story 📚 !
Don't Stop! 🤘 !
Keep Writing ✍️ !
I intend to read whatever you write Buuut,
Only after self-administering at least 500 mg of Phuckitall. Carry On My Friend! Keep Going!

DNF
- This is marketed as LitRPG but there are not stats - just level and 7 skills.
- The leveling speed is of the MC is unbelievable. He got 3 level from the fist 3 kills while level 200 is SSS or something.
- As few days old and just after he ate his first people he suddenly can make decisions like 'having multiple forms leveled up at the same level will be his greatest asset'. Based on what he can reach this decision? Natural genius and instinctively knows stuff?
- Early he tries to switch forms, the system shows him error message about insufficient biomass, he wonders why and... the system explains to him!?! Really?
- This feels like children's book.

I always thought the author (whose name I'm sure is a play on reincarnation) had a thing for rebirth... But i guess this is kind of a rebirth, a creature making a new life.
This book is giving me vibes like that anime "To your Eternity". With him assimilating and learning knowledge.
This was okay. I will pick up the sequel.
I mean you can't even blame the slime, because it learnt to be ruthless and backstab from humans. But there are few that are trying to treat him better.
3/5 Stars

The story’s sounds promising but the mechanics just fall short for me.
Levels. What do they signify, okay yes you’re now level 2 but what does that mean what do you get?
Limited skill slots, but they can be swapped out with mana at any time; so what’s the point in them being limited then?
I can’t get past these mechanics to enjoy any story when it’s built like this. Just remove levels completely if they don’t actually signify anything.

Very good “monster” MC book!
Very enjoyable book, with a solidly non-human MC. So many times, monster characters come across as just another human with neat powers, but Xen feels alien through to the end of this book. I really like his power set, which certainly paves the way for some endless variation and power scaling.
Bring on book 2!

DNF 36%
For a brief moment at the 30% mark I thought there was going to be a shift into human interactions with emotional conflict. Nope, straight back to meaningless, scripted fight scenes.
The author came up with an interesting premise and then added nothing to it; not story, character, world-building, or plot arcs. This is the husk of a novel.

Some clear leaps of logic due to the human biases of the author, some minor bending of characters and events toward the plot goals and away from common sense, usual writing inexperience stuff. Not bad for the genre despite not sticking out much, will read the next series entry to see where this goes.

April 30, 2026Great book.
I was on the patreon back when the first five chapters came out but I really struggle with drip releases. Glad i eventually got back to this. Love how it turned out reading it in book form. The fights were very fun and I enjoyed that it had plenty of personal progress, and that the monster mc wasn't just a boring human mc flavoured as a monster.

humans are delicious
A little silly, but then it gets into human/monster ethics, and begs the question who’s the true monster?
Spoiler alert, it’s probably the dungeon, since it gives sapience to its mana constructs. Imagine awakening as a monster, your only purpose to devour invaders and be devoured in return.

Fantastically chaotic!
Was expecting something more like reincarnated as a slime, but the tone and nature of this monster mc is entirely different, but just as fun to read. Everything makes perfect sense and the encounters are both exciting and thorough in their descriptions. A new entry for my top 10 list.

Wild ride from the start
The book does a great job of having a nonhuman MC!! Excitement in every turn, watching someone develop in real time, lots of fun magic and skills! The first book established a wonderful MC with a drive for becoming powerful and adorably wanting to take care of a cat. I'm definitely excited for the next book!

Amazing Start!
I loved the Demonic Tree series, so seeing a monster evolution series come out was a must read! I’m loving the characters and fast progression of power. I hope to see more insights into the World Dungeon and possible human conflict on the surface. Overall, this was an amazing start and I’m really looking forward to more of this series!

Lots of people are complaining because it didn't go the way they wanted, and so they didn't finish. If they had finished, they would have seen that it did, in fact, go the way they wanted. Anyway, it is a great book, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next one. The MC is a dungeon mob, though, so don't expect the same moral compass that you see in other stories. This is something new, enjoy it.

Great book
I really like how they didn't try to just make the monster act like a person with human qualities. It would have a completely different perspective of everything than everyone else. I can't wait for the next book.

Good Read
I enjoyed reading about, Xen/Joe/Gerald, A mind slime as the main character. I just wished he had looked more into his victims memories as a learning tool, because he knew absolutely nothing. And just knowing the basics, such as money, would've made the story better.

great new series
This is one of the best litrpg I have read in a while. This series has enough new things to keep it interesting and exciting while building on what makes the genre great.

Great Book!
Book was great! Had a lot of technical stuff when they were leveling up. There was lots of action and small and large fights. Loving the group diynamic so far. Excited to read the next one!

very good
It is actually a very fun adventure from a monsters point of view. The character interactions was very engaging. It’s something I would let my teenagers read as well because it is engaging for young people as well as old.

Loved.
Great story. Very well done characters and development.
Good monster evolution. No annoyances. No obvious AI influence.
Looking forward to more from this author. Great job.

It's decent
It's an XKarnation book. The plot isn't deep, the MC is mostly a mostly a monstrous killing machine. The world is sufficiently executed and the power ups were generally enjoyable.

Good
I'll be honest, the MC of this book is somewhat hard to root for. So that's a bit to get used to. Still, it's well worth the read.
Highly recommended.

Thoughtful
Wasn't quite the fun romp I was hoping for. This is a little dark. Well written either way. Even had a fair epilogue.

couldn’t put it down.
Great character development. Solid world building. Enjoyable storyline. I especially liked that the system was not initiated by an apocalypse.
