The annual human sacrifices are all that is stopping the Astral Spirits from killing mortals without limit.

Selected by the Honored Saint, Lesadia Eiderstone will be among the many to appease the Astral Spirits this year. However, when her father offers himself in her stead, he charges her to not simply live on in his honor, but to pursue her neglected call from the Starbreather—a call which leads her into the dangerous wilderness beyond the protections of their kingdom’s pact with the malevolent spirits.

As someone once raised from the dead, Relic Arlin is the only person who can wield the power to seal the Rift between their world and the realm of the spirits, thus putting an end to their invasion and the sacrifices. However, fulfilling his purpose comes at the cost of his life—an unfair price Relic was more than willing to pay until his unexpected reunion with his childhood friend, Lesadia.

Now, in order to save Lesadia’s father and stop the sacrifices, Relic must leave behind the person he loves most.

I don’t know that I’ve ever before encountered a work of fantasy that is so beautifully sad, with feelings portrayed so realistically as they are in Eventide.

This story is told in dual POV, and both Relic and Lessi’s distinct views held a relatability that just rang true. The broken and afraid are called to believe in someone greater, to hope when all seems dark.

In many ways I felt the story even challenged me as a reader to do much of the same. I felt pulled into their world which in many ways was heavy but was never without light. I felt torn between not daring to hope for a happily ever after, and yet not fully wanting to give in to the acceptance of tragedy.

The sorrow of these two on a doomed mission beyond themselves was contrasted by one of the sweetest romances ever. I loved that this story is a different kind of romance. Not quite the same dramatic tension as is often seen but more a strong steady love fighting against circumstances.

As much as I wanted to read Eventide I was in a way hesitant to face whatever the end would bring. It’s worth it.

Notes on content
Romance: kisses only
Violence: moderate
Language: none
The story contains heavier mental health themes involving depression and suic1de

This is genuinely one of the most beautiful books I have ever read😭 Like can I give it infinity/5??? I already knew I was going to be in love after reading some of A.M. Daylin's other books, but I had no idea that I would enjoy Eventide as much as I did. Amber manages to weave faith and fantasy together seamlessly. So much of what she wrote could be tied directly to scripture and I absolutely loved that. I've always said that if an author helps me to grow closer to Christ through his or her book, then they've become one of my favorite authors. Something about the way Amber writes hits so close to home.

Another thing I appreciate is the unique and creative world of Estrel. It was like old western and fantasy mashed together into one world. The magic system is unique, and I love how Amber tied their magical abilities to stars, and ultimately the creator of the stars, God. The Gifts given to the characters are intriguing and I'd love to see more stories about the other characters!

Ragnor is also such a lovable character. Imagine the most loyal pet you ever owned, and then think 20 times bigger. The romance in Eventide is sweet and I love the slow burn/friends to lovers. Relic is extremely honorable, and I love how protective he is of Lessi. Definitely no spice and no profanity as well.

Another aspect that impacted me is the role of mental health. Characters in Eventide must choose to share their burdens with each other, and only then can they find healing. Not a lot of fantasy books deal with this topic, and especially not in a way that gives hope. It was a good reminder that even when I feel anxious about things, there is a good and gracious Heavenly Father who has His arms open to me.

The ending seals the deal for me. I thought that it was fantastic.

Overall, an AMAZING book, and I HIGHLY recommend!

Favorite Quotes:
"The Starbreather has brought you here on purpose, and He will not abandon you in the hour that you obey Him.”

"Because your pain is not all that you are. You are a person in a desert, not the desert itself. And in some strange way, I think your being in that desert has made your heart deeper and purer than anyone I’ve ever met.”

“If there is one thing I trust, it is that whatever the Starbreather provides, it will always be enough.”

"But at least we know the sun will always rise again—no matter how deep the night gets."

Where do I even begin with this review? Eventide is so special to me. I read it during my own (much less dramatic) trial of the soul, while my faith was being tested, and I found Eventide to be a perfectly timed healing balm.

Relic is easily one of my favorite characters across books. He is so rich in depth and emotion. He is complicated and complex, and there are moments I want to shake him and moments I want to hug him, but I never stopped cheering for him. I truly believe his story is so important, and I am glad it is being told.

Lessi is a wonderful protagonist. Her softness is her strength, which isn't expressed enough in modern fiction. She compliments Relic so well and I was just as invested in her story as his.

Each side character is delightfully fun and unique, and I loved all of them (except one, and the author already knows which one because I complained to her already ;) ). Of course Ragnar steals the show whenever he is on the page, and I don't have any problems with that! In fact, I would read a whole series about Ragnar adventures (children's book series, maybe???)

Sorry, I digress. ANYWAY. Eventide. I'm still in awe of it. The world is fascinating, the prose is beautiful and rich and even though the sky is full of evil spirits, I still imagine it gorgeous to look at. I loved the atypical fantasy setting, not European forests but southern and western American gothic. I felt immersed in the world, which at times is tragic, because the story is heavy.

But the heaviness is what makes the story so beautiful. Light shines brightest in the darkness. So, all in all, I believe Eventide is a beautiful book that fully deserves to be read by everyone.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

As with all of A.M. Daylin’s books, *Eventide* is full of twists, turns, surprises, and gems of wisdom that show why she is one of my easiest auto-buy authors. This is a heavier book in many ways than her other works so far. One of the main themes is learning to find one’s self-worth, and Relic, one of our main characters, struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts/idealization. Daylin does a fantastic job of touching on these topics in a way that is both real and sensitive, never graphic but also never disregarding Relic’s experience as a passing thing to be considered lightly. Despite the shadow of these heavier topics, hope shines out from the very core of this story.

I was initially torn about the ending of this book, however, after reading the author’s afterword and acknowledgements, I wholeheartedly agree that the right choices were made. The ending is what solidified this book in my mind as a beacon for those who are are feeling trapped by darkness and unable to find the good and beautiful in life. Eventide is a poignant reminder that goodness and beauty can always be found, sometimes in the ways we expect, and sometimes in the most unlikely of places.

Thank you, Amber, for allowing me to once again be a part of your street team. As always, it is an honor to help bring another one of your stories into the world. As Relic or Lessi might say, the Starbreather has put His breath on them, and I believe with my whole heart that your words will continue to impact people in the most beautiful ways.

QUOTES THAT STOOD OUT TO ME:

“Hope is unreliable narrator.” “Though not nearly as unreliable as fear.”

“Some people, you just can’t replace.”

“Don’t give up hope, Relic. That’s like letting your soul die before your body does. The Starbreather has a plan.”

“No, I’ll never be ready, but some things we have to do, ready or not.”

“’If there is one thing I trust, it is that whatever the Starbreather provides, it will always be enough.”

“But at least we know the sun will always rise again—no matter how deep the night gets.”

**I was gifted an ARC of this book as a part of the author's street team, but all thoughts and opinions are my own**

Wow. Amber has done it again. <3 With its epic worldbuilding, sweet romance, wholesome characters, and pressing stakes, Eventide is a book that's going to have you glued to your chair (at least I was).
I loved loved LOVED Relic and his journey. We are called from death to life (literally in his case), and seeing him grow to experience and accept the truth of that made my heart so happy. The mental health elements were handled with such care and consideration for those walking through a similar situation to Relic.

[Also, the ending. Oh, the ending. At first it didn't entirely jive with me--it felt like the progression of the plot was leading to a different outcome. After pondering on it and the story some more, I've decided that I'm so happy with how it turned out. It reminds me of the quote from Andrew Peterson's Adorning the Dark where he reminds writers that "It is our job, our calling to remind children (readers) that the good guys win, the stories are true, and that a fool's hope may be the best kind" (Peterson, 2019).] For me, hope shone at the very core of this story, and the ending echoed that wonderfully.

Please never stop writing, Amber. The world needs these stories.

I received an ARC of this book, and am leaving my honest review!!

This book. Words fail me. I don't think I can write a review sufficient to express all the reasons I loved this book. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and possibly my favorite A M Daylin book yet, which is saying a lot. So, with as few spoilers as possible, here's why:
The main characters were incredible. Relic and Lessi were so SWEET, as characters and as a couple. Lessi is so kind and compassionate. She's not so much a warrior—her strength lies in other places and I LOVE that. It's absolutely amazing to read.
I wanted to give Relic a hug pretty much once per chapter, and boy did he need it. His life has been HARD, but he's also such a good character. He's brave and, despite everything he's been through, he keeps going. Which is incredibly admirable
Obviously, I adored the minor characters. Kione is a legend, Willa and Zephan are great, and RAGNOR who could not love Ragnor? There were also some other characters that you meet toward the end that were absolutely AMAZING, but in interest of keeping spoilers to a minimum, I will say no more
Everything about the message of this book is STUNNING. The emphasis on beauty in spite of pain just. Ugh. My heart. I highlighted SO many quotes.
I cannot fully express how good this book is. So y'all are just gonna have to go read it, and enjoy every single word

How I ADORE this story (and the tears it made me cry).

I’ve loved Daylin’s writing and storytelling for a while now, but Eventide stands apart from anything she’s written before. She tackles incredibly difficult themes with a sensitive, loving, and personal touch, and her heart (and the heart of the Creator) are evident in every page. Eventide is a story that reminds you of the light in the darkness, the beauty in the difficulty, and the purpose in the pain. And, ultimately, it reminds you that hope doesn’t always have to be an unreliable narrator.

Daylin has crafted this story in such a way that, as her characters wrestle with having hope in the face of the inevitable, we get to wrestle right along with them. She asks the same question to us readers as she does to her characters: do we dare believe there might be a happy ending, at the risk of disappointment and heartbreak, or do we try to cut our losses by accepting the inevitable - at the risk of dimming our view of the light and beauty sprinkled through every page?

I unashamedly cried over this book. And I will now unashamedly recommend it to quite a few people so they can join me. I can’t imagine a better conclusion, and you better believe I’ll be thinking about it long past reading the final page.

Eventide is one of the most profound stories of hope that I have ever had the honor to read. Did it take an emotional toll to get through it? Yes. But it healed parts of me I didn’t know were broken.

Daylin is at the very top of my auto-buy author list, and Eventide is a prime example of why. Immersive prose, a plot that never lags, characters you just want to hug and keep safe.

Relic and Lessi . . . I don’t even know where to begin! They are so real, so raw. Their relationship is one of my favorites that I’ve ever read. The romance in this story is precious, wholesome, and integral to the themes of hope and restoration.

Speaking of hope and restoration, Eventide does deal with the topics of suicide and depression, but does so with care, sensitivity, and--I’ll say it again--HOPE.

The character arcs are masterfully woven, and the ending threads them all together in a way that honors the story built across every page.

No notes. Ten stars. Beauty, sadness, hope, grief, joy, despair. Eventide has it all and more. I can’t imagine any book topping this one as my favorite of 2026.

I received an ARC from A.M Daylin, but all thoughts and opinions are my own

~~~~~~~~~~~
You know it's a good book when even the acknowledgements make you cry.
Relic and Lessie's story is full of beauty and pain, love and heartbreak. Their self-sacrificial love for each other was so sweet and I'm a sucker for childhood friends to lovers. Miss Daylin does not hold back when it comes to calling out corruption and talking about mental health, which I fully believe our world needs more of. I loved watching the characters struggle with their choices as they wrestled with the ending they knew was coming. Their questions and doubts were raw, real, and relatable, because who among us hasn't been there in our own journey of faith?
Excellent YA romantasy. No spice, very sweet romance that does not shy away from difficult topics such as death, grief, depression, abuse, and corruption in a YA appropriate way. The story is almost allegorical in its writing and themes and really answers questions all Christians have struggled with at one point or another. Reading this novel will teach you that hope is sometimes, as A.M Daylin puts it, "the only reliable narrator to be found".
This book. Ohhhh, this book. I am at a loss for words
Eventide was absolutely, utterly, indescribably incredible. Lessi and Relic are SUCH good characters. They're relatable and kind and broken and beautiful and I cannot BEGIN to express how much I love them and their journeys. The messages in this book are so beautiful and true. Hope, even when it's hard. Everyone is valued and worthy, even if they've suffered or sinned. I'M GONNA CRY AGAIN THIS BOOK IS TOO GOOD
All this to say, buy Eventide. It is one of the BEST books I've read this year, to understate things. It is beautiful and unique and sad and perfect and I will probably never stop thinking about it. Also, Ragnor. I love him. No notes
Eventide is such a good book I don't know were to begin.
It is a book about seeing beauty in pain. I was sometimes surprised by the way the characters can see the beauty while their lives are falling apart. (In the best possible way of course. )
The Author tells a beautiful story of worth. Worth is nothing we did but rather it is because Christ calls us worthy.
