This is the second book in the Night Clinic Series. It follows a disgraced former Army surgeon trying to keep his head low while, all the while, paying his dues to the devil, teaching us that you need to be careful with whom you are dealing. The first book sets the scene expertly, providing us with the background of the characters and leaving us with many unanswered questions...pick up right here! Although this book could absolutely be read as a standalone, it is much more fluid if it is read as the follow-up to the first book. Alex Mercer is flying under the radar, doing good things for bad people, just to stay alive. This second installment has Alex working under an alias in a hospital and the cartel boss demanding the impossible. He befriends an FBI agent (neither one realizes until it's already too late) who the other one is; however, the relationship between the two carries the story to a level that will leave readers rooting for both of them, although struggling to pick whom they like better. The book does leave with a cliffhanger, but a book three is in the works, so there's that!
Nathan is a master storyteller, and I was fortunate to receive a pre-publication copy to read and review. All opinions expressed here are unsolicited and belong to me.
If you skip this book and/or series, you will be doing yourself quite the disservice. If it's a great story, lots of action, and a good guy/bad guy doing the right thing are things that pique your interest, then this is a must-read for you. Then don't hesitate another minute.

In this Book2 of the Night Clinic series, disgraced military trauma surgeon Alex Mercer works undercover as a medical instrument lab technician, while operating on mob gang members and poor locals.
Flashing out the character, the author’s narrative is genuine and at times terrifying as he dodges conflicting mob gangs and the police around El Paso, Texas.
I received a pre-publication copy of the book to read and review as I saw fit.

This is of my favorite series
It’s hard to read this series because I want so much more.
I hope Nathan Burrows has many more on the way and I would also like to be able to take turns reading and listening.
