Caleb is a member of the International Thriller Writers and Southeastern Writers Association, the author of five novels, social media marketer, woodworker, occasional golfer, reacher of things on tall shelves, beach walker, shark tooth finder, and munchkin wrangler.
His two Lucas Caine Adventure novels, Blackbeard's Lost Treasure and The Search for the Fountain of Youth, were both Semi-Finalists for the Clive Cussler Adventure Awards Competition.
He is currently at work on the next book in the Myrtle Beach Mystery Series.
He lives in Myrtle Beach with his wife and son (the munchkin).
Death in Surfside is another fun Myrtle Beach Mystery by Caleb Wygal. It is essentially a crossover of his two series, Myrtle Beach Mystery and the Lucas Caine series. A person unfamiliar with the Lucas Caine series would still enjoy this book. I really enjoy Wygal’s books, but I do feel that at times he bogs down the flow with unnecessary repetition of background information that are B- or C-level plotlines to the main plot. I don't read many fiction books, so maybe this is typical of fiction writing. Maybe this excessive repetition is important for readers who pick up a random book in a series. If that is the case, maybe each book after the first has an opening chapter to catch new readers up on the characters from previous books. Regardless, I'll keep reading the Myrtle Beach Mystery series as long as Caleb Wygal keeps writing them.
I have enjoyed each book in this series…….but I am definitely waiting for the next book …….book number 10…… because of the last chapter!! I was so involved in this book, that I finished it in one day……
I read the first in this series years ago & was so glad when I noticed this was book #9 in the series. I was pleased that the author mentioned some of these stories throughout this one. I really enjoyed how he easily mentions beaches, restaurants, stores, hotels etc that are easily identified throughout the story also. This is the big draw for me. I never knew that the oceans holds so many secrets & that there is such a potential to use these secrets. I considered SURFSIDE to be a tourist mecca but now understand how important the research facilities there might become. Very enlightening. Good read. I might even read any of the other MYRTLE BEACH mysteries now....
The narrative suffers from an overabundance of background information, which could be significantly streamlined. The text contains repetitive sections that detract from the overall reading experience, suggesting a need for more concise and focused storytelling. The author would benefit from a more judicious approach to exposition, carefully selecting only the most essential details to maintain reader engagement and narrative momentum.
You can’t move south without becoming familiar with both north and South Carolina waterfront history. I read these fun beach reads to get a good sense of history and today’s familiar popular places to check out.
Another wonderful book from Caleb Wygal. I have read all of the books in this series and have enjoyed them all. It is fun reading about the area we live in and all of the familiar places he mentions. This last book ended on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the sequel.
I thoroughly enjoyed this well thought out, fairly complicated mystery! I always enjoy reading about the Myrtle Beach area (and south) in this author’s works since I frequent so many of the same places! Great job to Caleb. And wow, what a last sentence!!
Caleb Wygal did NOT disappoint with book 9 of Clark Thomas/Gina Gomez adventures. This book had everything in it - murder, treasure-hunting, espionage, etc. But now I have to sit and wait until September for book 10 because of the last chapter of this book !!!!!!!
I LOVE all of Caleb Wygal’s books. They are riveting and keep me turning pages as fast as I can. I frequently visit Myrtle Beach and always feel like I am right in the story. Makes me want to visit the places and restaurants that are in the books as well. Ready for the next book please!
