Charlotte Bloom #1

The Foretelling

Rate this book
At age thirty, Charlotte Bloom has the perfect marriage. Everyone agrees: she got lucky. That is, until a psychic predicts a different life for Charlotte — a life that does not include her husband. Over the course of five months, Charlotte works to prove the psychic wrong, but what she doesn't expect is for everything to fall apart.

Suddenly single and alone, and by an act of fate, Charlotte flees her life in Los Angeles and is thrust into a different life: one that takes place in rural Wales. For the first time in eight years, Charlotte puts her happiness first, only to discover that maybe her life in Los Angeles wasn’t so perfect after all.

After being offered a part-time job at a quaint bed and breakfast in Wales, Charlotte finds herself bickering with her moody, attractive, Irish co-worker, enjoying it more than she'd like to admit. An undeniable connection between them leads her to believe that maybe she can have a second chance at love — but only if the magnitude of her past and her impending divorce don't get in the way first.

Love can't survive across oceans. The fairytale always ends.

*Note: The Foretelling is the Book 1 (out of 3) in the Charlotte Bloom series. It DOES end with a cliffhanger. The Redemption is due out in April of 2015, and The Liberation is due out in August of 2015. Pre-order is now available for The Redemption.

*Due to sexually explicit language, The Foretelling is not meant for anyone under the age of 18.

Argh! I detest trilogies. Yes, I'm well aware I was forewarned but still...it sucks.

As much as I enjoyed reading this novel, there was something about it that just didn't sit right with me. Let me start off by saying that this is a well-written and engaging contemporary-romance that I'm sure many will enjoy. That and of course, Alec, the sexy Irish groomsman. Of course there's the heroine of the story, Charlotte, who goes off on an adventure to find her "swims" when she realizes her marriage is over.

Even days after reading this novel, I'm still trying to understand how the marriage actually soured.

In the end, knowing myself I'll most likely read the next installment because I need to know what happens with Charlotte and Alec. That and the fact that I just never learn - only to be sucked into waiting for each installment.

I received an ARC of this book (my first one!!!) in exchange for an honest review.

I felt like it took a little longer to get to Wales to meet the guy we’d be reading about, but it was necessary to get the backstory on her marriage. I admit I didn’t really like her at first, she seemed like she was still in the high school mentality – indecisive and flighty – not like a mature 30 year old would be. I ended up changing my mind! I really liked her quirky character and her personality grew on me. After thinking about the back story with the psychic, I might have made some of the choices she made before her marriage crumbled. But honestly, hopping a plane and flying away the very day your husband leaves you didn’t seem really like anything anyone would do! It just seemed sort of sudden, however, the psychic did predict things, so she had to follow through.

This book had me frantically flipping the pages to get to where she arrives in Wales and I wanted to see what happened to her and Alec. I found myself laughing out loud a few times relating to how Charlie was feeling. The romance was slow and steady and believable. I can picture Alec and Charlie and found myself doing some google searches for what this town looked like. Was a very enjoyable, page turning read! I’m very much looking forward to reading more about Charlie and Alec!!! This story line was much different than what’s on the market right now and it was really enjoyable.

Charlotte Bloom is an everyday woman. Struggling with infertility, a loveless marriage, and that all around feeling of being lost, Charlotte does that crazy thing we all want to do sometimes. She threw herself on the first plane she could find to Europe.

I love a good female protagonist that isn't perfect, but realistic and relatable. I was sucked into her life, and even when her marriage crumbled and she whisked herself away to Wales, I wanted Charlotte to take me with her. I was on her side the whole time.

I was a fool for the setting in Wales. The family-run hotel, the lovable staff and the local villagers. I picked up the book every day just wanting to go back to that place that felt so homey and wonderful. Add Irish groomsman, Alec. Done for.

What I loved about this story was that it was a romance, but it wasn't a super cliche romance novel. The male love-interest was multi-layered and interesting (and hot). A modern day Mr. Darcy, he was a bit of pill for the first half of the book, but a super hunky, lovable pill. I loved his relationship with Charlotte and digging deeper into what made him tick. If I had any complaint, it was that I wanted more. More Alec, all day.

I cannot wait to read more of Charlotte's adventures and that delicious romantic tension with Alec. Amanda has a way with creating characters that feel so incredibly real that it's hard not to get attached.

I am not sure what to say about this book. Most of it was okay, but some things didn't work for me. For one I wasn't expecting that Charlotte and Harry would admit that things weren't working between them anymore and 24-48 hours later she will meet Alec. I didn't like that she spends months trying to save something that couldn't be saved.

My biggest problem was the hot and cold showers between her and Alec. Usually I don't mind when a couple falls in love hard and fast, but this time I just couldn't accept it. Charlotte spends most of her time pushing Alec away and avoiding him and he was giving the cold shoulder, especially in the begging.

What annoyed me and I found tiring was that Charlotte would say the thing she thought one line ago and I sometimes felt that I was reading the same

The end is a cliffhanger and I am not very happy with that. I skipped the excerpt of the second book, but from what little I saw I an say that I won't like it.
