Ash Redd is a swamp demon pretending to be a writer. She drags her readers into her own realm of dark and twisted romance. Expect to dive into the depths of the depravity of humanity and the supernatural. She enjoys all things spooky, strange, and unusual.
Ash lives on her small homestead with her family, a flock of chickens, and her pack of hellhounds. When she’s not not writing, she’s probably watching Twilight, for the thousandth time, or hockey.
Ash invites readers to embark on a journey through their own shadows, exploring the dark corners of the human heart and the unknown.
Winter’s Edge is a chilling, atmospheric ride through grief, secrets, and the kind of dark romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat. From the first page, the Appalachian-inspired setting seeps under your skin frozen woods, shadowed corners, and a palpable sense of something lurking just beyond sight. It’s eerie, immersive, and absolutely perfect for fans of paranormal suspense with a heavy emotional core.
Jace Landry is a heroine defined by loss and resilience. Her search for answers about her boyfriend’s disappearance and the box from her family’s dark past drives the story with a tense urgency. I loved how her curiosity and determination didn’t feel forced; she’s smart, grounded, and her fear never overshadows her courage.
Then there’s Cyrus. Dead, but not gone, he’s a ghost with unfinished business, a longing to connect, and a subtle vulnerability that makes him incredibly compelling. Their dynamic—blending grief, love, and longing across the divide of life and death is simultaneously heart-wrenching and deeply satisfying.
The horror elements are expertly woven into the folklore-inspired setting. The monster stalking the woods adds real stakes, and the tension between survival and uncovering the truth never lets up. The book doesn’t shy away from darkness, both emotional and literal, but that’s what makes it so gripping.
Great dark paranormal romance. Second book in the Series of Sharp Edges, happens after Water’s Edge.
Beautifully written, haunting story with paranormal elements mixed with Appalachian folklore. The storyline was a mix of grief, mystery and haunting, spooky moments.
I really enjoy the author’s writing style and I can’t wait to read more!
“I used to think this place was haunted, but now that I’m older, I know the real ghosts are the ones we carry inside ourselves.” “Apparently, nostalgia is stronger than common sense because the proof is here, staring me in the face.” “Our families are so fucked up,” “Let me haunt you, little doe.” “If you care about her, you won’t be just another thing haunting her dreams.” “We always end up hurting the ones we love the most.”
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.
✨✨✨ARC reader✨✨✨ There is something deeply unsettling about a densely wooded setting in the depths of winter. Redd has a way of bringing this backdrop to life in such a way that I was physically cold for most of this book. Thank goodness I had my cat snuggled up next to me and a warm blanket to get me through. This story explores themes of post-relationship grief and familial trauma while also managing to keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Thoroughly unnerving & visually stunning. Loved this!
While this book was a bit slower than the first in the series, it was still a very atmospheric and unique read. The Appalachian setting always makes for a fun premise, especially with the creatures lurking in the darkness throughout the book. This was a slow burn, so we didn’t get a whole lot of smut until the later chapters but what we did get was incredibly well written. The book mixes a spooky atmosphere and grief with a bit of curiosity and mystery sprinkled in. I’d definitely recommend!
Another great read by Ash! I loved the flow of this story. The journey through grief and healing with the FMC just takes you along for the ride. There is mystery, the smut is always just right. The characters have their flaws, but it all fits together. I did not guess the twist and I cannot wait for the next book! Thank you for the advance copy!
This ghost story was so good!!! Honestly at no point did I know what was about to happen, the tension had me glued to this book waiting to see where we were going! The mix of folklore and cult elements was so beautifully written and introduced me to tropes I didn’t realize I was missing out on! I will be needing more of these books asap please and thank you!
I really enjoyed this book! I love anything with any kind of Appalachian lore, and this book covers that. It was very atmospheric and I loved the way the author protrayed grief. I can't see what happens next in the series
With all of Redds books this one was also such an amazing deep read! The story really held you and had great pacing! You will find mystery, romance, and some dark stuff so be ready or else this book will eat you and not in the fun way 👀 😂
I liked Cyrus and Jace. I loved how this book connected to Water’s edge. I also liked the writing. I loved that this book takes place in the mountains. I also liked the creepy/dark vibes in the book. Overall, a great read.
I fricken love these books. If you liked the Souls trilogy by Harley Laroux pls do yourself a favor and read this (& the authors other book Water's Edge)
I would say this is more a paranormal thriller with a side of romance but that being said this was soooo good.
You have Jace who is mourning the loss of her relationship. Not only is it her romantic relationship but they were also childhood best friends.
In order to take her mind off things she’s decided she’s going to help her parents with their land over the winter. Unfortunately being back home has dug up dark secrets and lies that she’s been unaware of her whole life.
Cyrus had come home to his fathers farm to take a step back from their relationship. He’s always had more knowledge of the things their families tried to bury than Jace had and he was convinced that he wasn’t good enoigh for her. Talk about paying the price for sins of the father. So when Jace comes back into his life he can’t stay away.
The problem is the creature from the forrest is hunting him at every turn and while he can’t seem to stay away from Jace he doesn’t want to put her in harms way either.
This had me flipping pages to uncover the family history, had moments that took me by suprise and the last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat.
If you want something that has a good thriller plot, appalachain folklore horror elements, cult vibes and ultimately an HEA this is for you.
What to expect:
❄️ Broken Hearts 💀 Secrets and Lies ❄️ Cult Vibes 💀 Ties to waters edge (character reference) ❄️ Paranormal Creatures 💀 Suspense ❄️ He watches her sleep 💀 Unconventional HEA
I suggest listening to the playlist while reading. Rounds out the haunting atmosphere, and the anguish. I read Water's Edge and I thoroughly enjoyed that storyline; I jumped at the chance to read this installment. It did not disappoint.
This book sucks you in from the very beginning. I absolutely LOVED Water’s Edge and this book was one hell of a follow up. It’s own story while still having little glimpses from the first book really show and reminds me of how good it was. This one made me feel Iike I was in my small little Appalachian town. The way people of the town were and the creepiness of the woods at night. Even during the day it has its own dark feel. The little details and way everything was explained was beyond what I typically see. I couldn’t get over the perfect little detail like whispers in the woods or how everything goes eerily quiet before anything happens. The mentality of small towns and the people in those towns saying that’s just the way things are and not trying to change or understand others are different. The over bearing parent and not letting someone be themselves. Like the fucking descriptions were beautifully done and I will never not recommend this series! So if woods, monsters, love, death, and folk are anywhere near what you enjoy reading, this get one NOW!
