Abandoned by her father at a young age, Jessie Swanson swore she’d never again depend on any man, let alone someone with Dr. Marc Trent’s reputation as a player. Upon being assigned to work a shift as Marc’s nurse, she vows to keep things entirely professional, but when the darkly handsome surgeon asks Jessie to dinner her promises prove no match for his golden-brown eyes.
One date turns into another, and then another, and the better Jessie gets to know Marc, the more his take-charge personality appeals to her. She soon finds herself craving his dominance in the bedroom as well, and when he takes her over his knee, bares her bottom, and spanks her long and hard, she is left blushing and begging for more. But after Jessie learns that Marc’s mother and sisters are unhappy about their match, she retreats into her work, sure that a girl who used to call a trailer park home can’t possibly have a future with someone like him.
When Marc puts his foot down about Jessie’s excessive overtime hours and her failure to take care of herself properly, things come to a head. Jessie decides to move on rather than risk losing her independence to a man she fears will one day cast her aside, but Marc doesn’t give up easily. Will the wounds of Jessie’s past keep them apart forever, or can Marc prove to her that he is not only a man she can depend on, but one worthy of her surrender?

The book wasn't bad but the book was not consistent with first book of the series, Sweet Salvation, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. The most egregious example was the timeline of when Marc first saw Jessie and when they started dating. The scene in the diner where Marc first saw Jessie was the same day Stacy had her interview and Jessie was just starting at St. Joe's. The events of Sweet Salvation were 2 years after that scene. The events in this book ran concurrent with Sweet Salvation therefore roughly two years elapsed between when he first saw her and when they started dating. However in this book it was about two months between first seeing her and starting to date. Also, Stacy mentioned later in the book that she met Jessie before she started at St. Joes and in fact told her about the job at St. Joes.
The other problem I had with this book was that two scenes that were in the first book but left out of the second book were actually very important to the second book and should have been included. This book was supposed to be a stand alone sequel but someone who had not read the first book would not understand what happened. The first was Stacy's engagement party which led to the confrontation with Marc's family. The second
A surprisingly decent story. Unlike some spanking, Domestic discipline, or TIH books, this one actually had a decent storyline. But, it is a Maddie Taylor book, so I shouldn't be surprised. Although it is the second book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.
There was a lot going on in this book with Jessie and Marc. Marc was rich, Jessie wasn't, therefore issues with money arose. Both Jessie and her mother had lingering issues regarding abandonment. Marc also had his fair share of baggage. It included his former playboy ways, and his very toxic family.
There was a really great scene where Jessie comments on Marc's mother's purse and his manhood. It struck me as so funny, it had me going for a while.
We ultimately reach the HEA, but there is no smooth road to get there. I do have to say that the last chapter was particularly satisfying.
If you take issue with spanking, dominant males, and an abundance of sex scenes, take a pass on this book.
Jessie Swanson had a tough childhood, which she was trying to get away from. She became a nurse and was happily going on with her life, until she was assigned to work with the handsome surgeon, Marc Trent. Knowing his reputation beforehand, she tries to avoid becoming emotionally involved with him, but his special brand of dominance proves too much for Jessie to resist. She loves the way he makes her feel and was content to allow things to continue as they were, that was until she realizes his family were not accepting of her because of her background. So, Jessie walks away and tries to end the relationship, but Marc was having none of it. The author did a remarkable job in this erotic romance, filled with her own brand of excitement and humor. If you love unadulterated erotica, then you’ll certainly enjoy this book.
This is a sequel to sweet salvation and this story is just as good as sweet salvation. Italian hunk surgeon, Marc Trent who has been dipping his pen often in the company ink well was just deciding to not do that again when nurse Jessica crosses his path, pointed out by her mom, that they (Marc and partner Jared) should look her daughter up. Marc s smitten an Jessica is too busy with her master of administration classes and working to give him much more than a glance. Besides, he is a player. And bossy, and hot, and persistent, and.....
Lots of blending of the continuation of Jared and Stacy but still so totally Marc's and Jess's story.
Good character development, good editing and good story line...And loved the family dynamics.
What a perfect mix of dominance and submission. I don't think I have ever read the subject where is is dealt with so romantically. Marc and Jessie are made for one another, if only Jessie can let go of the ghost of her past and let this master of domination bring her to the sweet surrender that she so badly needs.
The descriptions are a perfect mix of passion and play while the depth of the characters really intrigued me. Most books of this nature just deal with the sex side of things, but this author has taken time to build the relationship and what it means to both of the characters.
For the first time in ages, I actually didn't want a book to end. Will be searching out more from this author. Highly recommend!
Another brilliant book by Maddie Taylor that, once again, deserves much more than a 5 star rating! This is a 10 plus in my book and believe me, you don't want to miss it! The romance between Marc and Jessie grows slowly, Jessie is nervous because Marc has always been a player, but when it takes off there are fireworks and I am not kidding! The chemistry between them jumps off the page and you can't help but become emotionally invested. An extremely detailed, fantastic storyline, memorable characters, romance, and love will keep you turning page after page. Absolutely loved everything about it! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.
Dr Marc and Jessie have to be the hottest couple on earth! Loved this witty tale, loved the dynamic between the feisty pair and ADORED the steamy BDSM scenes. If Dr Marc thinks Jessie is going to fall at his feet, he is sorely mistaken... but luckily the man gives the word 'persistence' a whole new meaning!
My verdict? The book was mesmerising from start to finish. Ms Taylor writes naughty, sexy, steaminess in a way in which no other can compare and I can't wait to get my hands on more of her work!
Wow! This is an exciting and sexy book. It has it all: romance, drama, humor, and steamy erotic scenes. I found it quite intriguing and couldn't wait to finish. Author Maddie Taylor wove an entertaining plot filled with well-written characters that you won't soon forget! I happily received an Advanced Reader copy and was thrilled to give an honest review. Don't miss this one! It would make a great movie. I highly recommend.
I love when a sequel exceeds expectations. I loved Marc and Jessie and that it filled in all the pieces missing from book 1. A loving hero who doesn't give in. A sweet but fiesty and often volatile heroine who desperately wants (a needs) a strong man to help her overcome the disillusionment she has learned from the men in her life thanks to her deadbeat father. I cried, I loved, I cheered and I laughed out loud at Jessie's cutting humor. Loved it. 5 stars hands down!
