Dementia is a mine-field of experiences and discoveries and this book relates the heart-rending journey of a daughter and her mother to the end of a frustrating and often confusing disease. Living with dementia requires a whole new set of rules and Roberts explains as she goes what is happening both from her experiences as well as from her mother's view point. The Long Good-bye puts the progression of the disease out front and allows the reader to see how the trip could have been a little smoother. Roberts offers a number of ways to prepare for the end as well as suggestions for the caregiver from the onset to choosing a facility, to making the end easier.
As a husband of 55 years, watching my wife progress, this book helped me understand many things from my perspective as well as from the viewpoint of my nearby daughter. My wife is actively attending an excellent local dementia day care facility, but this story helped prepare me for what comes next.
Great book with concise explanations and suggestions for caring for a loved one with dementia. Highly recommended this read. God bless anyone that needs this book.
