Not too many people get a second chance at life, especially at 81. Rose is the exception.

Rose is a special story. At eighty-one years old, Rose starts her life over. For decades she is alone with no one, just a handful of friends who are passing away too fast. Rose only knows of one living relative, Marie her niece, who Rose hasn’t seen for nearly forty years. A life filled, as life is, with ups and downs, highs and lows. Rose doesn’t get many breaks in her life, but at eighty-one she gets her biggest.

With renewed energy and purpose Rose sets out to find Marie. She is determined and focused, she is strong and will not let anything get in her way, even her cancer. With the help of new friends Rose sets out on her ‘Life Quest’. This last chapter in her life will only be written by Rose. This story is Rose’s story.

I received this book from the goodreads-first-reads free giveaway. I usually don't read the dedication to books, but for some reason I was compelled to read this one and was happy I did as it gave just a glimpse of this wonderful story. It was inspiring to read Rose's story and see the determination to fulfill her dreams of escaping her dreary life in the nursing home and finding her family. It gives hope that you can still change the circumstances of your life. I loved how Rose was able to adapt her 'family' to include Buck and Cleo and along the way bring some measure of happiness/contentment to others. I guess Rose is the perfect title to this book and as an analogy to life. Life has thorns that hurt and make you bleed at times like a rose but the overall beauty is well worth experiencing it all. I highly recommend this book.

Rose, Life Begins at 81 is the second book by Dutch Jones I have read, I must admit he is quickly moving up the ranks as one of my favorite authors. Within the first few pages of the book I began to feel I really knew Rose and Benny. I empathized with her over her youthful decisions and reaction to Ana's accident. Rose certainly does have a few rough times and the lows are horrible, but the highs are amazing. What a wonderful character.

Rose is forced to face events that may have brought the best of us down, but she was able to persevere and bring light to those who were around her. She could have taken the selfish way out, but didn't and chose to share her blessings with others. I especially enjoy the Mrs. Claus event! If only there were more times for news to be created because of something good!

I hope there is a sequel, possibly showing how her actions impacted the lives of those she touched. She could have dwelled on the difficult times and given up on life, like she tried multiple times, but something kept her going. It is a legacy well worth continuing.

I will definitely recommend this book to my family and friends looking for a good read. Just when life seems to kick you and things may seem their darkest, there may be a silver lining, maybe. I have to give this book five stars!
I was given the chance to read Rose, Life Begins at 81 by Dutch Jones, by inkspand, in exchange for an honest review.
