This grumpy‑sunshine, age‑gap slow burn absolutely consumed me (as does most of Indigo’s writing). Gareth Grimsley (40) was once a superstar wrestler at Black Rite Pro. Now he’s a fallen legend with an accent sharp enough to cut and a chip on his shoulder. He’s sexy, brooding, and furious at the world after losing both his career and his fiancée in the same devastating “accident.”

Maisie Hughes (23) is a bright, determined content creator filming a documentary about his rise and fall. She arrives with a camera, tenacity, and the will to prove to herself and her loser boyfriend that she has what it take to be successful. She brings a softness and fire that Grim hasn’t let himself feel in years. Their dynamic is electric from the start, with her warmth against his bitterness, her curiosity against his walls and watching them circle each other is slow‑burn torture in the best way.

As Maisie digs deeper into his past, the truth behind the accident unravels with twists that hit hard, peeling back the layers of the man he’s become. And when Grim finally lets himself want again, the chemistry between them is molten. He shows her exactly what she’s been missing, what she deserves, and every moment between them feels earned, intimate, and explosive. I mean, the man calls her “Daylight” because of the light and brightness that she brings to his once grey world. And for Maisie, she finally feels seen and understood for the first time.

“Daylight, because yer too bloody bright to ignore.”

Indigo Queen has a gift for writing characters who carry their grief like a second skin, heavy, complicated, and impossible to ignore. Her stories feel rooted in the same emotional terrain that shapes the world of pro wrestling: people pushing through pain, rebuilding after loss, and trying to stand steady even when life keeps knocking them flat. The characters here are flawed and deeply human, moving through heartbreak with a kind of raw honesty that mirrors the quiet, aching moments between Grim and Maisie. If you love romances where healing is slow, connection is hard‑won, and the past refuses to stay buried, this book delivers that same bruised, tender intensity. It’s heartfelt, grounded, and just the right amount of strange, capturing the messy, beautiful process of learning to move forward when grief has rewritten everything.

Shoot delivers IMMENSE emotional depth, mystery, and spice in one addictive package. Honestly, if Indigo Queen writes it I am going to read it!! Can’t wait to see what’s next.. the ending left me very intrigued.

A huge thank you for the early copy! Loved seeing my fav trio for a bit too (Hext, Jules, & Kai 4EVER!!).

I was so excited about Maisie and Grim’s story and this did not disappoint! The moment I read about Grim in the previous book I was obsessed. That man with his accent and his tragedy had me needing to know more. I am elated that his story was able to be told.

I love how Indigo Queen touches on darker aspects while still creating this beautiful story about love. Maisie was an incredibly relatable character. Too many times her situation goes unseen and for Indigo Queen to shine a light on that kind of trauma was raw and just amazing to read. Not only is Maisie a talented character, but she is so incredibly strong and the character development throughout the book shows just how much her character grows.

The banter between characters is fun and entertaining. I absolutely adored the way Grim teased Maisie. The loathing to interest to love plot was just so fun to read. Not only is Grim a great big tease, but he’s soft and knows when to be serious. These two characters have a chemistry that is incredible to witness.

I loved the inclusion of Hext, Kai, and Jules. These characters are the reason I got into this genre of Wrestling romance and found Indigo Queen. This trio is just so fun and I was so excited to read the interactions between Jules and Grim. I loved them in the previous book and I loved their dynamic in this one as well.

The plot is incredible and I loved the extra epilogues. That Segway into the side characters had me on the edge of my seat! I am so curious about Jamie and Olivia, but if I’m being honest— I am much more intrigued by Roman and his story. I’d also love to see more interactions with Roman and Zelda 😂

I literally am so excited about these books and I can’t wait to read what comes next!

Maisie is a reporter who gets her hand on a story that just might help her career take off. She manages to get an interview with an ex pro wrestler named Gareth. His career ended abruptly after an injury and his story has a darker side to it that he's not willing to tell.

Maisie digs deeper under Gareth's grumpy exterior and slowly gets him to soften up. Gareth is falling for Maisie, but she has a boyfriend... Does her boyfriend treat her good? Absolutely not. They've started to feel like roommates instead of lovers and Maisie is starting to question everything she's ever known.

I loved getting to watch Maisie and Gareth grow closer and truly get to know each other. I also enjoyed learning about all of the wrestling companies dark secrets. Thank you to the author, Indigo Queen, for an ARC of this book!

Another 5 star read by Indigo! The fourth book in the Breaking Kayfabe series and I think the best one yet! Funny, heartfelt and a man with an accent and a dirty mouth. Need I say more? One of the things I love about her books is that she has elements of herself and her life woven into her books, which makes them more relatable and gives all of the characters a very human touch.
When she writes a man with an accent, you know he has an accent and she just does it so damn well. Gareth is just perfection.

Indigo’s writing has a way of drawing me in. Maise and Grim, our FMC and MMC. What a pair. I felt for both of them and cried with both of them during different parts.

This isn’t sunshine and rainbows, there is grief and mental health issues, and of course Wrasslin’. A wonderfully written story with so many twists that I didn’t expect, a couple I did, and a couple English blokes who I’d love to swoon at for just their accents.

★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ !!!

i absolutely loved this! i will start by saying i loved the cameos from past characters because i loved their stories so much & had missed them.

i ALSO really loved grim & maisie. and olivia. these characters were so raw and real and it was apparent that some serious emotional labor was put into making their grief translate realistically on page. that is something so special and powerful as a reader. genuinely such a good reading experience. bravo

What an absolute THRILL of a book. I love the breakaway from the whole wrestling side of the stories before it. It was fresh, new characters really brought in a completely different vibe, and it was done so perfectly. Grim is TO. DIE. FOR. It's that simple, he was the perfect MMC. I loved this so so much, I can't wait to see what Indigo has planned next!
