The Martingale Company generally has very interesting craft books, and this one by Susan Huxley is no exception. Its basic crochet designs and instructions would be especially good for beginning crocheters who have made afghans or throws and would like to try a sweater, but there are some really nice designs here that might appeal to more experienced crocheters as well. There are twenty patterns in all, with the sizing up to XL on all of them. The instructions say they're mainly for up to ~45" chest but many of the patterns show finished sizes of ~50-55" so in my opinion a 2xl could use them as well. All use yarn, not thread, and utilize larger hooks - D through J, with one pattern being for extremely bulky yarn and a giant hook. The only drawback I found was that they called for only specific brands of yarn and didn't offer general alternatives in weights of yarn (i.e., IMO the best patterns call for "such'n'such brand, or a #4 worsted yarn" description, or "fingering" or "sport" etc.), but there is a table at the end of the book that clearly illustrates each yarn used, with enough information for you to find weight and type of yarn online if you wish to use alternative or favorite brands. (Every experienced crocheter has theirs!)

Otherwise the instructions are clear and detailed, with assembly patterns given for all as well. A very good book to keep in your library for reference, as the basic ideas shown here will adapt very nicely to many of your own ideas/styles as well.
