I enjoyed this just as much as the first book in the series, maybe even a little more. And romance readers, there is a romance here!

What continues to impress me most about this series is the depth of the characters. In a story that could easily lean on survival alone, the author really takes the time to build out the people at the heart of it. Their relationships, fears, and growth feel real, even as everything around them spirals out of control.

Tropes/themes:
Post-apocalyptic survival
Found family
Man vs nature
Slow-burn (closed door)
Protective hero(es)
Survival against the odds
Moral dilemmas
Isolation
Trust and emotional healing
HFN

Overall, this is a character-driven, post-apocalyptic story with a strong sense of community, layered threats, and a touch of romance. Can’t wait to see what this author brings us next.

As if a catastrophic CME wasn't bad enough for Whisper Ridge...

Cryos: Whisper Ridge, After The Pulse book 2, continues the saga of Mason Ashford and the residents of Whisper Ridge after the attack by the Bone Rats and getting hammered by winter weather. The CME was just the beginning, the entire climate is going crazy and that's not the worst of it! The writing is of the caliber anyone familiar with Sean Liscom from his 'The Ranch' and 'Feral Outbreak' will recognize and appreciate, though I must say that After The Pulse is Liscom's best series to date so far. The additional environmental factors also place the series in a category of its own as its no longer just a post-CME survival thriller. This series will be devoured by fans of apocalyptic survival thrillers! Overall, 5/5 stars, highly recommended for anyone who enjoys survival thrillers and well written thrillers in general!

Series is a hit!

Now total unpredictability! Surprises galore. Who are the good guys and. Who are the bad? Those Volcanoes are going to be problems!

Double standards galore...

Such a shame.
The first book was so good. A plausible apocalyptic event, based on real science. An apocalypse which doesn't outright kill 999‰...
People who remain mostly sane.
Well, Mr Liscom decided that things weren't bad enough, so he involves the very real Laschamps geomagnetic excursion. Which the people who discovered it wouldn't recognise...
He decides that not only have the US military survived intact, they have seemingly endless resourses. The explaination isn't convincing, and the logistics are downright implausible.
And surely the military in any country are supposed to help their own citizens?
This tale is not exceptional, it follows the usual themes and clichés.
When the good guys and the bad guys do the same deeds, you have to pay attention to know if the deeds are good or bad...
And Mason, the Main Character, continues to repeat himself, several times in the same conversation, whenever he wants to get his point through. May I point out that he was never elected leader?
Everyone, including most of the bad guys, are so sexually repressed that it's embarrassing.
And we can already guess how many more millions, nay, billions, of innocent people will be killed off in the next book...

The Best Way type of Book

My kind of read. Good adventure, with a good hearty dose of pulling together, friendship, and mixed with problems and scares to overcome. I’m not satisfied with the end however, unless it leads to either book #3 or a carrying on in am resolve the questions posed by the ending

as real as it can get

We all know Mother Nature rampages now and again but in this story she is going thru menopause and taking it out on everyone determine to survive. With an intuitive leader, Whisper Ridge fares better than most anywhere else once the military come to their rescue, but still, without their leader it would all be worse until it actually is.

Great character development!

I've really been enjoying this series so far. I didn't know about the magnetic field around earth they discussed, actually a lot of the science is fairly new to me, but it is well explained and very interesting.
But my favorite part is the great character development. Exciting and well written plot lines.

Finally a new take on TEOTWAWKI

The concept is a fresh take on the CME theme. Character development is also top-notch. I identify with and care about the main characters, and that is usually something that suffers in the apocalyptic fiction genre.

Marvelous Story

Loved the story, loved the characters, the plot twists, loved the love thread, and I loved the ending which has me staying up late again to see what's going to happen next. Can anything else go wrong? I'm awed but the author's imagination.

Great second book

The author was able to build on his strong first book and has really carried the story on and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I’m heading to book 3 now to see where the story continues.

Not so much action in this Whisper Ridge Book 2, a little boring. I read the series "The Ranch" and way more interesting. I just opened Whisper Ridge Book 3 and hoping its more interesting.....
