When teacher and mum of two Lou Gibson (aka That Money Mum) realised her family was spending more than they earned, the numbers stopped her in her tracks. She set out to reset their finances - and found it transformed far more than their bank balance. In a world of mindless tap-and-go payments, endless subscriptions and Instagram-fuelled comparison, Lou discovered that while the external pressures were very real, the change had to start with her. And that shift gave her something peace. Blending powerful personal stories with practical money strategies, Thrifty Rich shows how small daily choices can transform your budget - and replace financial stress with calm. Lou's lessons - tackling rising grocery bills - no-spend challenges - cutting through consumer pressure - big life events like weddings and babies - living within your means - habits for building long-term wealth - and much more. If you're feeling the cost-of-living squeeze and exhausted by the pressure to keep up, Thrifty Rich shows you how to take control. Because being 'thrifty' isn't about deprivation. It's about becoming rich in the things that money can't buy.
Loved reading this one (both on kindle and audiobook). Entertaining, funny and interesting. Great thrifty tips and have followed Lou on insta for a few years. Highly recommend!
This book I've read in 2 days. This has been the most fastest, easiest, fun read I've had yet. It's so simple, so basic, well written and the points that she makes in the book really hit the spot. She doesn't try to over explain anything, she speaks from reality and speaks from the heart. This is the most down to earth finance book that you can just tell has been written with pure love and investment. For a first book, I'm impressed with how well it's written and how you can just tell it's from an 'ordinary' person who truly understands what it's like.
A refreshingly honest look at how to manage money in the modern day with tips that are actually useful for the average person. Relatable in how we don’t always need to be perfect with our money, and the best we can do is get a proper visual and force ourselves to be accountable.
Lou has a strong voice throughout as we go through scenarios we experience every day and how to make our money stretch further eg grocery shops, unexpected bills, accountability, top up shops, expensive big events.
Super helpful for people both new to budgeting and those who think they’ve learnt it all. Highly recommend!
“I want to use my money to enjoy my life, to create experiences and memories and to guarantee a stable future for my family, not to fix invisible problems the world tells me I have. I can fix those easily myself by simply walking away from the mirror.”
This book was a breath of fresh air. I didn’t feel shamed about my spending habits (and where they could do with a tighten up) but instead felt like I was on a journey with Lou to improve our finances together.
It’s a great reminder that finances are just a tool to enable the life we want!
Thrifty Rich is such a wonderful reminder that you don't need 'things' to live a rich and fulfilling life, which so wonderfully reflects the content Lou puts out into the world. Well done Lou! I will definitely be recommending this one.
