Five stars. This novel grabbed me from the very beginning and completely immersed me in Miami — not just the city itself, but the culture, energy, and Hispanic customs that make it feel so authentic and alive. The author does an incredible job making the setting feel real, almost like you’re walking the streets alongside Yovanni Guerra and experiencing everything firsthand.

What really stood out to me was how emotionally grounded the story feels. Yovanni is a deeply relatable character: a devoted husband and father trying to leave behind a destructive past while fighting the temptation to fall back into old habits. The internal struggle between protecting the life he built and being pulled back into danger felt raw, realistic, and human.

And the final 50 pages? Absolutely impossible to put down. Once the story hits that stretch, the tension and emotion completely take over. The stakes feel real the entire time, which makes every decision and consequence hit even harder.

This is the kind of novel that pulls you in emotionally while still feeling believable enough that you can picture these events happening in real life. An intense, heartfelt, and deeply immersive read.

An emotional and deeply moving story about a young man determined to do right by his family. From the very beginning, it pulls you in and keeps you wondering how everything will unfold. The relationship between the two main characters feels authentic and heartfelt, and I found myself fully invested in his struggle and determination throughout.

A page turner for sure. You fall in love with the characters. And the author does such a great job that by the end you feel like they are a part of your family. There’s a sense of familiarity! I am looking forward to reading more of Brito books.
