A yearly New Year’s Eve game pushes two lifelong best friends to change their lives forever in this gorgeously sweeping romance, told through past and present timelines, from critically acclaimed author Katie Naymon.

When childhood neighbors and best friends Florence Parker and Tom Sinclair were on the precipice of graduating college, they made a pact they hoped would link them Every year at their families’ lavish New Year’s Eve party, they’d each write five secret predictions about the other’s year ahead. So it went for nearly a decade—until the final year, when one letter shattered their friendship.

Now Tom and Florence are home for the holidays and haven’t spoken in a year. To keep up appearances, they’re forced to plan the New Year’s Eve party together. But hidden in the tense silences and charged interactions is a wealth of history they can’t escape, and feelings they’ve never spoken aloud. In Every Future, It's Us by Katie Naymon

Florence Parker and Tom Sinclair have been best friends since they were young. As they are graduating college, they make a pact to each list five predictions for the other and they will share these predictions at each of the families' New Year's Eve parties. The winner, each year, gets to make one life changing decision for the loser after the predictions are tallied.

These two have semi flirted over the years although they mostly pretended they weren't flirting. Tom's dad left the family while he was young and it's affected his emotional state in unhealthy ways. Flor has felt like she's not noticed and was especially hurt when her family moved from CA to live next to Tom because it seems her older sister dropped her for popular friends and fun things to do. Both Tom and Flor are hurting in their own ways and it's good they have each other.

Now Tom and Flor are thirty and something really bad happened the year before. Because of this bad thing, they haven't spoken for something like ten months when all the earlier years they stayed very much in touch, whether in person or by other means, all throughout their friendship. Now they are both back for the wedding of Flor's sister and things are very strained. Since Tom's mother is sick, they want to pretend to still be best friends but it seems everyone knows more than Tom and Flor know. Everyone knows the two were meant for each other even though they had made a pact to never date. And now, everyone can tell something weird is going on between the two.

We go back and forth, all over the place in the timeline. We get to see several "almost" coming together moments and then the two of them denying what everyone knows they want. We see them date a lot of people, even double dating, as if that's what they want to do with their lives, double date with other people. Things will come to a head this year, though.

It seems to me that Flor did almost all the bending and giving in while Tom, who seems so level headed, is really the delicate flower of the relationship. Things must change between these two, their relationship wore me out and they were their own worst enemies with the massive games they were playing all these years. Will they part forever or will someone make a change that will allow them to come together as a couple? I like the way the story ended but it sure did take a long time getting there and I blame the main characters. A buddy read with Jayme and DeAnn. Check to see what they think of this sometimes exasperating duo.

In Every Future, It’s Us is the PERFECT book to add for your New Year’s Eve read, if you are looking for a HOLIDAY THEMED ROMANCE…

Florence Parker (Flor) and Tom Sinclair are childhood friends who met 17 years ago. Their connection was instant, but when Tom’s parents got divorced, they made a vow to NEVER jeopardize their friendship by getting involved romantically.

As they were graduating college, they made a pact that EVERY year at their mom’s joint New Year's Eve party, they'd each write five secret predictions about the other's year ahead and seal them in an envelope to be read the following year. Whoever got the most guesses right, would get to make one big life decision for the other.

The book moves forward and backward in time, revisiting years from their childhood, various New Year’s Eves and predictions over the ten years since they made the pact and the PRESENT DAY, where they haven’t spoken to each other for the entire year because of WHAT HAPPENED on New Year’s Eve LAST YEAR.

In the Present Day, Flor and Tom are home for the holidays but nobody has planned the annual New Year’s Eve party because Flor’s mom is planning her other daughter’s wedding, and Tom’s Mom is facing a Breast Cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Flor and Tom may not be speaking but to keep up appearances, the pair agree to organize the party together, as they don’t want it to be cancelled.

All of the forced proximity is going to push them to also acknowledge the feelings that EVERYONE else seems to know are there.

Full of ANGST- you will want to BEG them to just have an open conversation about their feelings as you ROOT FOR these Friends to become Lovers! I only wish that they could have acknowledged their feelings just a little bit sooner as 400 pages was about 50 pages too long for me!

Was Marilyn and DeAnn rooting for them? Be sure to watch for their reviews!

Florence and Tom have been friends for seventeen years, but one letter destroys their friendship.

I’ll admit that before reading this book, I wasn’t a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope, but it completely changed my mind! The connection between the main characters is so strong, their history runs so deep, and there’s so much mutual pining that I felt every single moment of it.

I fell in love with these characters from the very first page. Throughout their years of friendship, they supported each other through so much, and I don't think I'll ever forget their awkward first kiss. The book features multiple timelines, but they are woven together seamlessly. Every flashback adds another piece to the puzzle of Florence and Tom's relationship.

This book delivers a true slow burn: years of yearning, incredible chemistry, and so much tension between the characters. It also has plenty of angsty moments that broke and mended my heart, as well as a beautiful New Year's atmosphere. I'll definitely be rereading it this winter!

This was my first book by Katie Naymon, and I didn't expect it to hit me so hard! I'm in awe of her writing, and I can't wait for her future releases.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group (Berkley) for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is a classic slow burn that gives us the best-friends-forever vibe, even though there is trouble in paradise.

The BFFs are struggling and not speaking to each other after a disagreement, but they end up at home next door to each other during the holidays.

The bad news is that no one in the family realizes they’re not speaking to each other when they are asked to work on a party. So now, they have to figure out work together.

Throughout the story, the author keeps us bouncing between past and present as she tells the story of their connections, their slow-burn feelings, and ultimately their argument.

With family issues and drama scattered throughout, it doesn’t help the BFFs with their healing. In fact, at some point, it seems to get worse until they finally break down and talk.

Tom is softy and the one who seems to be walked over most of the time in the story. He wears his heart on his sleeve.

Flor’s naivety and a pact they made in grade school make this a catastrophe in the making. Throw in loads of misunderstandings, and the muck they have to get through.

The author gives them solid, but sometimes fuzzy connections that make you love these two together. But wading through the long back-and-forth does tend to get a little frustrating. Thankfully, the solid but messy friendship can handle just about anything.

Between their healing, family healing, and an emotional, burning love for each other, Naymon delivers the happily ever after we were craving. In Every Future, It’s Us brings the emotions.

4 We’re Just Friends Stars

This was my first read by Katie Naymon. Do you think men and women can “just” be friends? Or does it usually evolve into a relationship? Does giving in to those feelings ruin a friendship? Or can a strong friendship lead to a great relationship?

Florence and Tom have been best friends for almost their whole lives, starting when they discovered that they were neighbors. They tell everyone that they are “just” friends, but others think they would make a great couple. They develop a fun New Year’s activity at their family's annual party, where they make five predictions for each other for the coming year. The winner gets to make a life decision for the other. I’m not sure I would be good with this game!

The book alternates between present-day chapters and chapters from the past. We know that something terrible happened in the present day, and they haven’t spoken for a year. The book builds up to this terrible event.

As you might predict, there are some moments when Tom and Florence explore more than just friendship, but they back away each time. Neither is completely honest with the other about their feelings. Now it’s New Year’s again, and they are faking their friendship because Florence’s sister is getting married and Tom’s mom is very ill.

Florence has just accepted a job in London, so she’s ready to have some distance from Tom. But will fate intervene? This holiday read will have you thinking about male/female friendships and the power of miscommunication.

Marilyn, Jayme, and I had a great buddy with this one. Be sure to read their reviews.

My thanks to Berkley for the opportunity to read and honestly review this one. Scheduled to release on 12.1.2026.

6 stars!!!!!!

Flor and Tom were friends for 17 years. But this December, they're NOT. What they *actually* are is slowly and painstakingly sussed out over the course of the novel. The reader is left on the edge of their seat, traveling seamlessly between timelines that build and build on the story of their relationship, which is somehow always solid AND always in flux. Push and pull. Dreamlike allusions and real situations. I'd stop reading and felt disoriented in my own life, having been so thoroughly absorbed in the novel. Grab some caffeine, put your phone on silent, and lock the door. You won't want to stop reading until it's over!!!

I didn't think that Naymon could top her debut novel: You Between the Lines. Well, she JUST DID. If I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about it. THIS is what readers want. THIS is why we get into romance in the first place. To be thoroughly whisked away, ridiculously invested in characters who feel 100% real. To watch the yarn unravel in the most delicious way. To get wrapped up in the emotion and to know that the author is going to carry us flawlessly to whatever destination she's chosen. Pulse pounding perfection!

This will DEFINITELY be in my top ten books of 2026.

Content Warnings: parent diagnosed with cancer, parent undergoing chemotherapy, hospitalized parent, divorce, character struggling with paternal abandonment

This is my first Katie Naymon book and I'm so swept up by her writing that I now have to go back to read her debut! Thank you Berkley for the ARC. All opinions are honest and my own.

I'm a mood reader at heart and the mood to read this struck even though we're only a few days into the fall season. I'm floored by Katie's eloquent writing style that simply tugs at your heartstrings. Friends to lovers/second chance romance are my favorites to read but it's tough for a book to do these characters and tropes justice and bring forward a refreshing plot. Katie did just that! I love that the story is told in alternating timelines--there was so much to glean from Florence and Tom's past. The nostaglic nods and mentions in the flashbacks really brought me back to my middle school days as well, so that was fun to experience and reflect on. I found some parts in the middle of the book to drag on; there were a couple instances of miscommunication that I'm not a fan of, but overall, pacing was solid and led me to devour this book in a day!

Fans of yearning, second chances, and found family will love all the emotional elements of this book. I was invested into each of the characters (not just the main ones) and could have lived in this world a bit longer. 4.5 stars overall!

this is by far the cutest and the best friends to lovers i’ve ever read . Katie Naymon does it again and I wish I can say I was surprised . I was so nervous getting into this because a second book can be so vastly different from the debut and I was worried I would not like it as much but oh my god I was so wrong. The way she writes relationships and love and feelings is everything to me . It’s the kind of writing that has me giddy and smiling at the phone like a lunatic. So incredibly talented.I am her number one fan now xx #tomandfloforever . Heartbreaking and so adorable !!! Thank you Netgalley and the author for this ARC <333333333

I think Katie Naymon's writing could bring me back from the dead. This is THE childhood friends to lovers final boss, nothing about these two could ever be casual. The yearning between them made my heart ache, I wanted to shake these two idiots and yell YOURE IN LOVE!!! I could not put this down, their slow burn slowly took pieces of my soul with them. It was slow, hard earned, and worth every bit of pain. This is romance perfected.

This book absolutely blew me away, and I truly do not know if a romance book has ever elicited this many physical emotions in my life: Katie Naymon has written a modern-day classic that deserves to be hung in the Louvre.

When I tell you that there wasn’t a single word inside of this book that I didn’t love, I’m not lying. I’m pretty sure I highlighted 80% of it, and my annotations make me look like I’m an insane person (and maybe I am!). I ADORED Flor and Tom, and I truly don’t know that I’ve ever loved a set of characters the way that I loved them. I am probably the biggest sucker in the entire world for a childhood friends to lovers romance book, and In Every Future, It’s Us, might be the best in the business.

Tom’s college degree was 100% in yearnalism because the way that man yearns and grovels and expressed his emotions literally had me crying in the middle of a cruise ship bar (and I was SOBER). Tom Sinclair is the kind of man that you wish was real but know was obviously written by a woman because he’s literally the entire package and I need someone JUST like that. There is something so sexy about a man who lets himself feel deeply and I will stand on that!!

Florence Parker was also such a deeply relatable and real FMC because I, too, would renounce all of my decision-making skills to follow Thomas Sinclair literally anywhere he went and would do literally anything that he asked me to!!!

Jokes aside, I really enjoyed how we got to see her character grow and develop through the years of this novel, and I loved the choice that she made for herself at the end of the book. We so often see women putting themselves down for their relationship in media, and I really loved getting to see an empowered woman choose herself while also getting to keep the guy.

I could quite literally write a 10-page essay on all of the reasons that I loved this book, but to keep things short and sweet, this book feels like Katie rooted around in my brain and found all of my favorite tropes and romance elements and decided to write this book personally for me. I don’t know if I’ll ever love another book this much again, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the magic that Katie has woven into each chapter of this book.

If you only read one book before 2026 ends, let it be this one. (When it comes out December 1st.) Because: this is the best book I've read all year.

I've read 80 books so far in 2026. I read A LOT. I like A LOT of books. I get sucked into many of them! But NOT ONE BOOK in recent memory has enraptured me the way that In Every Future, It's Us just did. There is liking books... there is enjoying books... and then there is WHATEVER THE HECK THIS JUST WAS. Katie Naymon must be some kind of high ranking witch considering the complete spell she just had me under with her truly exceptional, highly addictive writing.

I loved that these two had HURDLES in their way but more specifically that EACH and every single one of these hurdles were so well thought out. If there was miscommunication it had a believable precedent. If there was something keeping them from one another it was an airtight reason. If there was a friendship where there should have been a romantic relationship it was something that absolutely made sense. UGH. I loved that so much! AND THE LEVELS OF YEARNING AND ANGST IN THIS BOOK ARE RIDICULOUSLY HIGH! In. The. Best. Way. It was straight up painful! (Which truly is the best - is there true yearning without emotional pain?!)

This story has so many layers and they unfurl in an organic way that is both high stakes and - for the most part - something that Katie already mapped out for you within the story so you KNOW how it'll likely end, you just don't know how the heck it's going to exactly go down. It created such delicious tension as a reader which is something I will be chasing for after finishing this. Florence and Tom are two characters I'm carrying with me. I already can't wait to reread this.

Katie Naymon, you are my favorite. Thank you so much for writing this! Berkley, I love you forever for helping bring this book into the world -- thank you for the early digital copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you SO MUCH to Katie for allowing me to be a part of this traveling ARC tour! 🫶🏻

I absolutely INHALED this book in less than 24 hours.

Katie’s writing style is just so beautiful and poetic. Seriously, nobody out here does it like her!! Friends to lovers can be hit or miss, but let me tell you, I knew I could trust her, and this was a HIT for me as expected. Everything about this was expertly weaved together. An absolutely phenomenal job!

As with YBTL, I really saw myself in the FMC. Struggling with direction, self-doubt, self-confidence. I really needed to read this especially now in this season of transition that I’m in where I’ve just made a pretty big career-shifting decision. Seeing myself in Florence has really helped me to feel more confident in my decision. And that’s what I love about Katie’s writing. She writes flawed, relatable characters who are easy to connect with and also allow for a sort of introspection as well. I feel seen. I adore her writing, I’ll never shut up about her, and this second novel has just solidified her as an auto-buy author for me.

This is the PERFECT book to read when you are in that limbo week between Christmas and New Years. Add to your TBRs now, preorder now, whatever it takes to make sure you don’t forget about it come December 1st!! 💜

This book was so insanely good I don't even know if I can accurately capture it's greatness in my review. This is the perfect friends to lovers romance book in my personal opinion. Katie Naymon's prose is so rich a specific and intimate.

In Every Future, It's Us follows Florence and Tom, best friends who met when they were kids, as they're forced to work together on planning the New Year's party their mom's typically throw. The catch? They haven't spoken in a year because of something that happened last New Year's eve. They have this yearly tradition where they write predictions for each other and then open them at the end of the year. Whoever gets the most predictions correct gets to make a big choice for the other person. Both Tom and Florence are well rounded characters that Naymon meticulously paints, with family relationships that seem so, so real and grounded. The narrative and the two main characters are heightened by the close proximity of their families, especially since they haven't told anyone they're not on good terms. The layers! The drama! Perfection.

What I loved about this book is how Florence and Tom's friendship got a little messy at times, especially as they made those big decisions, but Katie Naymon leans into this. Being friends can be messy, especially when you add complicated feelings and partners into the mix. It's the kind of interpersonal imperfection in a friends to lovers book that makes you cringe a little, but that you can't look away from. Inevitably, being friends with someone that long and not stepping into that next level, but maybe letting some more romantic feelings spill over, will happen.

Naymon really leaned into this dynamic over the course of the narrative, expertly using the past and present timelines to show us both how Tom and Florence's friendship blossomed, but also how their relationship and romance was just beyond the surface for so long. Those what if moments were little teases that eventually pay off in such a satisfying way. Ughhhh, their chemistry!! And it's tough! And messy! But it's also so, so worth it. To see two people who know one another so deeply fall in love on the page is always such a treat.

I highlighted so many memorable lines that I will not quote from because I read an advance copy of this book... But I will say, this one will stick with me and I will be going back to revisit some of those passages. Please do yourself a favor and pick this one up when it comes out. Perfect, perfect, perfect friends to lovers. I can't say that enough!

(Also, side note, thank you, Katie for setting this book in Belmont, where the bookstore I work at is located. That was a welcome surprise and an actual delight and I will be selling it in the store on that fact alone. Well, also on the merit of the prose, of course.)

Thanks to Berkley Romance for the digital arc and to Katie for allowing me the honor of being on her traveling arc team!

Katie, what ever did we do to deserve such delectable goodness!? Florence & Tom are yearners for the ages of I gobbled up every tiny interaction like it was the last breadcrumb on earth.

Friends to lovers is one of favorite tropes because of that constant push and pull of "will they, won't they" and the tension in Katie's delivery had me holding my breath and clutching at the pages for fear I'd throw the book from excitement. I loved the multi-timelines and thought this worked so well in creating the aching feeling that comes with "GOD, JUST KISS ALREADY!" Yeah, I liked that a lot.

From Katie's debut You Between the Lines to her sophomore novel, In Every Future It's Us, her writing has solidified its place as one I will find solace in because of how deeply I can relate to her characters. The complexity, the messiness, the vulnerability...what a comfort to find someone who looks the way you do on the inside come to terms with their worthiness of being loved through it all.

More than likely, I'll be rereading before pub day in December because I already miss them and I can't get enough.

First off, thank you to Netgalley, Berkley Pub, and Katie Naymon for the eARC!

Pretty sure I have over 40 highlights of “In Every Future, It’s Us” in my kindle & that’s not common for me when reading contemporary romance! I don’t know what kind of enchantment Katie puts in her books but I fall under her spells every single time. What a beautiful story of not only friends to lovers but of growing up and becoming an adult.

Florence and Tom met in middle school and immediately were drawn to each other. But like many adolescents, they pushed their feelings down and made a pact to remain strictly best friends and it seemingly worked! Until it didn’t. Every New Year’s Eve, they write out goals for each other and whoever wins gets to decide what the other will do in the new year. But when tragic news arises and Florence and Tom’s friendship is tested, their childhood pact is also called into question. Can their friendship survive the unthinkable: falling in love?

Friends to lovers is quickly becoming a new favorite trope for me and “In Every Future, It’s Us” solidified just how beautiful it is when platonic friendship can evolve into something deeper. I related so much to Florence in how the future absolutely terrified her and in how she had to learn to trust her inner voice (at Tom’s encouragement, of course) and it was wonderful to see her grow into that person she was always meant to be. Infinity stars! I already want to reread it. Keep a lookout for this beautiful story releasing on December 1, 2026!

This book was SO GOOD. It was a magnificent friends to lovers execution and it was one of those magical romance books where every character was, if not necessarily likable (though I liked them all) in their function in the story, they were all at least acutely understandable. If you loved Carley Fortune’s books, this is the winter version and yet entirely Katie Naymon. I loved Tom and Florence, but their friendship was appropriately flawed and it was great to see the realistic ways it affected their journeys. And my goodness, Florence at the end made me cry. Like literally so happy for my fictional friend. Ugh. This one’s gonna stick with me for a while. Thanks to the publisher for the arc, so glad I was fortunate enough to read this story.

The most perfect holiday adjacent romance. For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty but make them self aware mature adults and it’s winter not summer.

A perfect example of why the childhood friends to lovers trope is superior. With ample amounts of yearning and slow burn, sometimes love is the most beautiful friendship before it can become more.

The perfect NYE romance, it made me want to fast forward to winter and throw a party of my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC.

A cozy, wintry friends-to-lovers romance that would be great for the Emily Henry crowd. Fans of People We Meet on Vacation especially. The time-hopping between past and present gives it that "I have to know how they got here" pull, and it kept me locked in.

Florence and Tom carry the book. Tom in particular has layers, and getting the MC’s backstory alongside the present-day timeline is what makes this feel different from a standard friends-to-lovers setup. The dialogue feels natural and the twists earned their payoff. I was nervous about the HEA before it came through. Stakes felt high.

Honest note: the pacing drags a little in the back stretch, and the final act could tighten without losing any of the warmth. It didn't pull me out because I was already pretty invested, but it's the thing I'd flag.

Who it's for: readers who love Emily Henry, holiday-set romance, lifelong-best-friends chemistry, and a slow build. Who it's not for: readers who want high stakes or fast plotting.

A strong, character-driven addition to the romance shelf.
