The gruesome discovery of a woman’s corpse in a small, tourist town draws Sheriff Joshua Wolfe into the most perilous case of his career. Hounded by the townsfolk and media, he exhausts every conventional method for solving the crime. The investigation comes to a standstill. Then, four more residents disappear.
Sharon A. Austin writes stories with a crime at its core. Aspiring screenwriter. Avid cyclist. Loves being on the water, the great outdoors, and antique and classic cars.
Sharon is the author of three novels in the Hellfire mystery series--SMOKE ON THE WATER, FIRE FLICKS, ASHES OF VENGEANCE: interwoven tales of love, mystery, murder, and arson.
Featuring Sheriff Josh Wolfe of the Hellfire Trilogy, KILLING SUMMER, a stand-alone mystery novel, is a gritty tale where one partner in crime concocts a plan to extricate himself from murder.
In SERIAL QUILLER a crime writer embarks on a killing spree, by means of voodoo magic, and uses details of the murders to maintain her best-seller status with an episodic thriller series. (Bad Mojo series)
If you like a mystery with a bit of romance thrown in, this is the book for you. The pace was good, the plot well developed, and the characters grew on you. I felt the cold without having to be told it was cold. I felt the tension in the room as though I were in the room. The editing was clean. The gruesome scenes were graphic enough to draw a picture without going overboard. If the story had a shortcoming, it might have been in the abrupt ending. But then, it is the first in the series, so maybe more will become clear in the next book. Don't misunderstand, it did have an ending, I just would have preferred a little more clarity. All in all, Austin knows her way around a good plot and I look forward to reading more from her.
What a great read! Really got me involved with the characters so that I wanted to know what happens to them. I would like to know more about Chariton Rhone and the sheriff of course. The flash backs for each of the main characters is all adding to the flow. I was however rather disappointed in the ending. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to be picked up in either of the next two books of the series, I may just have to read them to make sure?
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
This book had a lot going on, to the point that it was confusing. Introduce a character, someone is killed or shot or something! Back stories were brought up (perhaps a key to later books?) and then nothing really was done with them. The identity of the killer was danced around, but in a way that didn't seem like the best option, at least to me. It's a mystery. We don't know who the killer is, and even though we know his back story he clearly isn't living under that identity so dancing around if the person with that history is the killer doesn't matter because we aren't told his current identity!! The part that just annoyed me to no end is how it wrapped up. The other characters don't know who the killer is, or even have confirmed that everyone that went missing was killed. (OK, one character knows but says nothing.) I don't need a happy ending, but at least some kind of ending is good. I just didn't feel like it was an ending, more of a cliffhanger. The only problem is I don't really care enough to seek out the next book. (That's even after reading the preview of the next book, which apparently as the first book is coming to an end an arsonist starts burning buildings. I think this series has created the worst little, small town in print since Stephen King created Derry, Maine.)

I WAS VERY DISSAPOINTED IN THE STORY LINE & CHARACTERS ALL OF THEM WERE SO STUPID. THIIS IS A SERIES OF STAND ALONE BOOKS (sort of) FEATURING SHERIFF JOSH WOLFE IN THE SMALL TOWN OF POINT JOVE, MISSOURI. PEOPLE WHO REALLY LIVE IN MISSOURI SHOULD BE OFFENDED BY THE CHARACTER’S, THEY COME OF AS A BUNCH OF INBRED IDIOTS, THAT WHOLE TOWN MADE ME ANGRY. SHERIFF WOLF COULDN’T FIND HIS ASS WITH BOTH HANDS. HE THINKS OF THINGS BUT NEVER FOLLOWS THROUGH ON IT (hears a noise never checks it out) BUT GOES ON AND LIGHTS UP ANOTHER MORILA. ARGH! THE STORY LINE DOESEN’T EXPLAIN THINGS AND LEAVES GAPS I GUESS IT WILL BE EXPLAINED IN UPCOMING BOOKS. THIS LEFT ME FEELING LIKE WTF UP WITH THAT? ;{
