A dirty bomb set deep in the bowels of Madison Square Garden fails to explode due to a faulty detonator, an act that enrages newly-elected President of the United States, Robert Williams. Determined to fight terrorists and protect his country and its citizens, President Williams moves ahead three weeks later with a risky plan. But first, he needs help from an old friend from the Marine Corp, Captain Richard Starr.
Starr has the perfect weapon to help the president in the war against Sergeant Marvin Styles, a seasoned recon sniper whose mission is simple—to kill the enemy by any means available. Helping Styles and Starr is fighter pilot J. C. Christman and the world’s best computer hacker, Darlene Phillips. Williams hides the quartet of experts under the umbrella of his newly-formed department tasked with filtering terrorist information gathered by worldwide intelligence agencies and then reporting its findings directly to Williams. With their agenda declared, only two mission perimeters are set—to not get caught or kill innocent people.
In this political thriller, a group of experts acting on orders from the President of the United States must do everything in their power to rock the world of terrorism to its core as an anxious world waits.
From page 1, I was hooked. It would be nice if hero's like this actually existed, the terrorists exist. Even knowing the book was fiction, it still made me glad when the terrorists died. None stop action, enjoyable characters with a couple of twists thrown in. Wish the sequel was out.
Marvin Styles & talented (deadly) friends have provided me, and perhaps many other peace-preferring readers of faith, a cathartic interlude of hope for world (sanity?). The availability of worldwide, real-time communication to rich & poor, bright & not-so-bright (and all in between), in "first","second", & "third" world societies, has enabled what heretofore have been locally and regionally contained pockets of death & destruction, to now envelop our planet in a plague of indiscriminate terrorism...How to counter this seemingly unstoppable insanity, becomes a conundrum of ambivalence to me (and probably to many others) who are hoping for a future of peaceful, challenging partnering of our world's diverse citizenry in a common mission to explore and experience the new frontiers that future, even current technology and human hope, vision, & talent (and God), make available for us. Let's hope & pray that Mr. Snyder's, C.J. Cooper's, et. al. depictions of solutions to this very real, worldwide terrorist insanity are only temporary vehicles to carry the world into a future of hope, vision, and positive achievement...(I apologize for the "sermonet"!)..."The President's Weapon"--A well constructed, important read.
Well done. Not Pulitzer material but a good read.not realistic but a little fantasy is good for the soul. Can't wait for the next one. I would recommend it to anyone
looking for a good fast paced story involving the way you wish things were. I enjoyed it immensely when is the next one due?
I wish the politicians would use this book as a blueprint on how to handle terrorists. I'm sick and tired of Isis and jihadist. This book was fantastic. I wish America had the courage to do something like what was written by Russ.
The concept of such a group of specially talented people is very interesting. The physical abilities of the Styles character is a little to much, other than that, this is going to be a great series that I will follow.
I wanted to give this book a four and a half but couldn't get it to work. It's fast paced and very interesting. The characters are really good together.
I found this book non stop action and a cast of characters anyone could like. Very pointed in today's world. Looking forward to next book by Russ Snyder.
I really liked the concept of the team. Got the main guy in Styles, operational back-up in Starr plus a computer hacker and pilot. I especially latched onto the idea of them having a cool hq and plane to support their missions, must be the comic nerd in me. Overall I thought the story was fine and characters were fairly well drawn out for a 1st time novel. However the things I didn't like were the ham-fisted politics and the unstoppable nature of Sgt. Styles. One of the things I never liked about authors like Vince Flynn and Brad Thor were the preachy overtones about American politics in their stories to the point where I can't enjoy their books. Hopefully future books will be a bit more subtle about that aspect. Plus if Mr. Snyder can create tension with having the reader feel that Styles is in some actual danger during the course of a mission that would be great. I will say this is a fine first novel in what I hope is a continuing and developing series. Really fun read.
The concept behind the plot is fairly original (certainly new to me) and it's timely. The President has had enough with terrorists following an unsuccessful attempt to bomb Madison Square Gardens. So he goes outside the law and establishes his own hit squad. No doubt every President has wanted to this--how many have?
Anyway, the characters are tough as would be expected. The dialog is so-so, the action scenes okay. But I was disappointed with the roughness of the writing. It lacked polish; too often repetitious and slamming the obvious in the face of the reader. If you are looking for pure entertainment, I recommend The President's Weapon. If you're seeking something a little more cerebral, this probably isn't for you.
I enjoyed the break from my normal reading to read this. It is about unconventional revenge and that makes it a little less believable than others in this genre. It is well written and moves fast. I would like it better if it had the antagonists a little smarter, but I'm not a writer and won't criticize someone who is.
Utterly ridiculous plot and storyline. Sophomoric character development. Average action descriptions. One can only hope it will improve in subsequent efforts.
Good premise, likable characters, and a really good first book. There are quite a few editing errors in this version and some of the story both dialog and description were flat. All that said I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to future adventures.
A well-paced, exciting story with interesting characters that reader came to care about. There were a few misspelled words. I look forward to where the author will develop the story from here.
