An anthology featuring eight authors, who serve up tales spanning romance, cozy mystery, thriller, literary fiction, and magical realism—each one centered around a beloved treat. Fudge melts into moments of nostalgia; huckleberry lattes warm small-town secrets; sprinkle cookies brighten unexpected turns; and classics like divinity, chocolate chip, and s’mores cookies add flavor to every genre. Each story starts with its featured recipe, inviting readers to savor the collection, both on the page and in the kitchen.
Perfect for those who love variety in their stories with something sweet close at hand.
Christina is a lover of love who has been writing stories in her head since middle school. She also holds the titles of ‘mom’ and ‘babe’ and lives in Montana with her four children, husband, and two cats.
When Christina isn’t reading or writing, she is wrangling her kiddos, homeschooling, taking baths, baking, or raising a glass into the wee hours with her book club ladies.
3,5 ⭐️ Thanks to net galley and the publishers for this arc! I really liked most of the little stories in it and I loved the incorporation of the recipes from the desserts in the stories! Some of the stories would have been better as a full book or even a bigger novella as they had such cool concepts and they left you wanting to see more of the characters stories. All the stories where about different topics and about different characters but they all tied up nicely together and made you want to see what other dessert could be incorporated into a fun, cute or even sad story.
I loved this anthology. It had a little bit of everything, from women’s fiction to psychological thrillers to fade-to-black romance. Each story stood on its own, but they were connected by intermezzos and pastry recipes, making the collection feel uniquely whole and complete. Another wonderfully creative endeavor from the Mountains & Manuscripts crew!
Stories include:
👩🍳 Intermezzos & Recipes, a series of beautifully scripted short pieces followed by recipes that are interspersed throughout each story, all written by the talented Adrienne Tritschler!
☕️ Huckleberry Lattes & Hidden Tracks, a debut cozy mystery by Lori Leaf—and what a beautiful debut it was!
🥛 You’ve Got Wishes, an Aladdin retelling by Christina Hill—this was one of my favorites in the whole collection!
🍮 Death Row & Divinity, a psychological thriller by HM Palmer—another favorite of mine!
🍪 Running After You, a closed-door romance by JA Forde—that TOTALLY made me blush!
🍯 Low Class Women, a literary fiction piece by Angela Fairhaven—with the most iconic last line!
🧁 A Sprinkle of Serendipity, a fade-to-black romance by Krystal Sandoval—perfect for all the single ladies!
🍫 Red, White & You, a sweet romance by Starla DeKruyf—okay, this has the SWOONIEST grumpy veteran with mental health rep. Say less!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an e-ARC. A cute collection of short stories, mostly romance. Because of the short format, the stories have to be a bit insta-love, but they will make you smile. There are several delicious dessert recipes throughout the book too. The cozy mystery by Lori Leaf was my favorite; I loved the way she brought the setting to life.
Huckleberry Lates and Hidden Tracks 4.5 stars This short mystery story was fun to read. I really enjoyed the buildup of the story and how it all played out. I liked the characters and small town setting. Overall, this was a great short story!
You’ve Got Wishes 4.5 stars This was super cute! I really enjoyed this short story and loved how I’m pretty sure this is set in the same town as the Love is Blind series. If you love cute, rom-coms with monkeys and Aladdin retellings, then definitely check this one out!
Death Row and Divinity 5 stars Death Row and Divinity pulled me in! I’m not a big physiological thriller fan, but I didn’t want to put this one down. I loved the then and now parts to get the full story. I had a feeling something was going on, but never expected that ending. Such a great short story!
Running After You 4.5 stars I thought this book was really cute! It honestly had me smiling throughout reading it. I thought it was the perfect length for a short story; not too long and not too short. I liked both Chloe and Walker as well as Dylan and Chloe's mom. The only thing I really had a hard time with was the pilot job. It just wasn't realistic to me at all. Other than that, I really enjoyed this story and definitely recommend it if you like behind closed door romances.
Low Class Women 4 stars I feel like this was the shortest story so far. I thought this was a unique story about family and reflecting on your past and what decisions you made. I liked the character and found their perspective interesting to read from. I enjoyed this story overall and liked where the author went with it.
A Sprinkle of Serendipity 2.75 stars I didn’t really connect with this story. It wasn’t bad or anything, I just think I wasn’t a big fan of the plot or main character. I just wanted a little more sparks between the two characters. I feel bad for the low ratings on this one because like I said, the story wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t for me.
Red, White, & You> 5 stars I really enjoyed this romance story! I thought the entire interactions between the two main characters were perfect. I loved that it was kind of a grumpy/sunshine book and that they have previously interacted with each other before meeting in person. I would have loved to read this as a full length novel; however, I still really enjoyed this as a short story!
ARC Review (Late entry as I just found in my drafts. Apologies.)
Firstly, thank you to the Christina Hill for the advance copy of this anthology.
I could have easily finished this in a day or two, but these stories were so good I wanted to savour each and every one of them. You have a cozy mystery, a fairytale retelling (Aladdin), psychological thriller just to name a few (these were my fav). And on top of all these wonderful stories, there are recipes to try that are all connected to the stories.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed this anthology and would definitely be looking for the next one (there is going to be another right?), and I will be looking up each author to see what else they have out there. Highly recommend.
Sweet Confessions made me realize that apparently the quickest way to emotionally destroy me is to hand me dessert recipes and then quietly attach them to deeply human characters carrying heartbreak, hope, nostalgia, secrets, and emotional baggage. Written by Christina Hill, Lori Leaf, H.M. Palmer, Starla DeKruyf, Krystal Sandoval, J.A. Forde, Angela Fairhaven, and Adrienne Tritschler, thank you so much to the authors for the gifted ARC because this anthology felt like sitting inside a cozy bakery while overhearing eight completely different lives unfold around me one dessert at a time.
What I loved most about this collection is how every story feels unique while still somehow fitting together perfectly. Romance readers get soft emotional tension and comforting chemistry. Mystery readers get secrets simmering underneath small-town charm. Literary fiction lovers get reflective, emotional storytelling. And magical realism fans get those subtle little touches of wonder that make reality feel softer around the edges. It honestly reads like comfort food for book lovers who can never stick to just one genre.
But the real magic here is the characters.
Even in shorter stories, these authors created people who felt real enough that I immediately cared about them. There are characters carrying quiet loneliness behind polite smiles, people reconnecting through recipes tied to memory and grief, women trying to rebuild parts of themselves, and characters wrestling with old wounds while pretending everything is fine. Some stories felt warm and hopeful while others carried this lingering ache underneath all the sweetness that caught me completely off guard.
I especially loved how the desserts reflected the personalities and emotions of the characters themselves. Rich fudge tied to nostalgia and family memories. Huckleberry lattes wrapped around small-town secrets and comfort. Sprinkle cookies bringing unexpected joy into difficult moments. Nothing felt random or gimmicky. The recipes became emotional anchors inside the stories, connecting food, memory, love, and healing in such a cozy and clever way.
“There are some memories that linger longer than sugar on your tongue.”
I ended up around 4.25 stars because while naturally some stories resonated with me more than others, the overall reading experience felt comforting, heartfelt, and honestly kind of healing. This is exactly the kind of anthology you pick up planning to read “just one story” and suddenly it’s midnight, you’re emotionally attached to fictional bakers and grieving widowers, and now you desperately need cookies.
If you love cozy small-town vibes, emotional character-driven storytelling, comfort reads with depth, and books that practically demand coffee and blankets while reading, Sweet Confessions absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR.
Also… am I the only person who now wants an entire sequel anthology built around pies? 👀🍰📚

Each story is centered around a sweet treat along with the recipe. The romances are sweet and closed door (no graphic sex descriptions). The cozy mystery is intriguing and sweet. There is a little swearing in several of the stories but they are enjoyable quick feel good stories and the recipes are a nice bonus. #SweetConfessions #Mountains&Manuscripts
Thank you so much to NetGalley & Victory Editing for my arc in exchange for my opinion.
Those that know me, know I am a H U G E sucker for food themed books/covers and Sweet Confessions was an immediate YES for me! 🍪🍫🧁🍰
Sweet Confessions is an anthology featuring 8 authors who each serve up their own genre spanning romance, cozy mystery, thriller, literary fiction and magical realism - each one centered around a delicious dessert!
The intermezzo between stories was… 🤌🏼 chef’s kiss! The stories themselves.. as addicting as the treats in each one! I loved each and every one and can’t wait to get my hands on a physical PLUS check out each individual author. You can guarantee I’ll be trying my hand at all the recipes 👩🏼🍳

I received this book courtesy of NetGalley for the purpose of a fair and honest review.
Overview: Cozy fiction seems to have become quite popular. There seems to be no genre that can't be co-opted by the cozy subgenre. This book has recipes for sweet desserts connected to eight stories, ranging from cozy mystery, to romance, to magical realism. How do the stories work? Let's find out.
Dislikes: I'm not a fan of the romance genres. About half of these stories are romance. There's nothing wrong with the genre itself, so this is more of a personal taste issue.
Likes: The desserts sound amazing.
The first story in the book, the one about the coffee shop, was great.
Conclusion: This was a good book. If you like short story collections, or the romance genres, then this book is for you. Enjoy the read.
The ARC was provided by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op. Cute Cute Cute!!!! I absolutely loved this anthology series. What really stood out to me was the unique concept of including recipes before each short story. It added such a cozy, personal touch that made the experience even more enjoyable. My favorite story was Running After You by J.A. Forde. I couldn’t stop giggling while reading, and the text exchanges between Chloe and Walker gave me that perfect tingling sensation. I adore them to the core! On the other hand, Death Row & Divinity by H.M. Palmer completely stumped me. The final line delivered such a powerful “whoa” moment that I had to pause and take it in the end.
Overall, this book was cozy, heartwarming, and feel good, the kind of read that leaves you smiling long after you’ve finished.
This was a mix of different kinds of genres and I did like the mystery to some of them and the bits of romance in others.
I like that they were all short and simple reads and I was able to get them all done in the same day.
They could have been better, grabbed my attention more than they did.
If you like short reads and you also like a mix of genres, this would be the read for you. It's also the sweeter side of romance in the ones that have it, no spice and I guess I like my stories to have at least a little. 🤏
As one of the authors that contributed to this anthology, I know I’m a little biased, but this is truly such a fun collection of stories across genres and writing styles. The addition of recipes to go with each story and that matches with a sweet treat in those stories is such a fun and unique twist! I think readers will love hopping from story to story and experiencing the different styles and vibes they’ll fine! Happy reading.
An eclectic mix of 8 short stories wrapped deliciously with a recipie to tantalise your taste buds.
All the stories have something to offer. But my favourite was Death Row and Divinity, certainly gave me a WTF moment at the end. Running After You was counter winner!
The Intermezzo inbetween each story weren't for me, didn't see the need really.
I liked these short stories, getting to experience a new author and their writing, and loved the recipes that went with each one. Definitely saved a few to try. Each story was unique and some were not what I was expecting but enjoyed. I wasn't sure about the intro page to the stories though, I didn't think they went with them at all. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.
Great selection of stories. Some better than others but overall a good collection. Some I desperately wanted to be longer. The Intermezzos were weird and seemed out of place to me. Loved the recipes!
I genuinely enjoyed Sweet Confessions! What I loved most was how every story felt different, yet the desserts and recipes gave the whole collection such a warm, comforting feeling. I had so much fun moving from romance and cozy mystery to thriller, literary fiction, and magical realism.
this anthology was such a sweet treat to read! the way each author incorporated a dessert in their story + the recipes>> 😋 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 and 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 are my personal favs of the lot, but they’re all excellently written and diverse spanning across multiple genres! the writing style is beautiful throughout, and i LOVED the intermezzos! highly recommend if you’re looking for mutilple short, sweet, cosy and easy to binge stories on KU🫶🏼
