Devouring the Secret

Rate this book
A string of tragedies have made her cold and calculated

Faith is the Corrigan & Co. Foundation’s most successful agent. Seeking justice for others is the only thing that guides her. Until she meets a sexy stranger, and gives in to a night of passion. When he turns out to be a suspect in the mission she’s assigned to soon after, she’ll have to decide if it’s worth the risk to let love back into her life.

He was born with a silver spoon, but only wants a chef’s hat

Gavin can’t stop thinking about the woman he let go with for one night. When Faith shows up to interview for a job as his mother’s personal chef, he knows that working with her side by side in the kitchen will be torture. Until they both give in to what they feel, and it becomes so much more.

They’re both hiding from each other, and the past

While Faith tries to remain impartial, Gavin struggles with the need to protect his mother—and what he believes in. There are forces bigger than the two of them working behind the scenes, and they learn that you can’t outrun the past, no matter how hard you try. Is their love strong enough to make them stay and fight for it, or will running be the only option?

Secrets can multiply, and the biggest SECRET that’s revealed could bring down the entire foundation. Love alone may not be enough to save them, but friendship and loyalty just might.

Crystal Perkins has always been a big reader, but she never thought she would write her own book, until she sat down in 2014 and did it. She's now published over 40 books, and has been featured in several anthologies as well.

She lived in Las Vegas for over a decade, where you could find her running author events and winning bookseller awards. She's was recently living in North Dakota to be closer to her family, but she is back in Vegas. When she's not reading a few hundred books a year or chasing after her grandson, you can find her watching hockey (Go Knights Go!) and trying to find the perfect shade of lipstick.

She loves Star Wars AND Star Trek, but if pushed to choose, it will always be Leia and her crew who come out on top. Her love of all things nerdy comes through in her book characters, no matter the genre. A mac and cheese connoisseur, she travels the world looking for the perfect version, while attending book conventions and signings as a cover for her research. Poutine research is also conducted regularly on her trips.

Her first series, The Griffin Brothers, followed four billionaire brothers, and the third book, Creating a Love, was a finalist for a multicultural award in 2014. Her second series, Corrigan & Co. featured a secret society of female spies in Las Vegas. She followed this with Society Girls, which offered a glimpse into the training of the women who are recruited into the Corrigan & Co. Foundation, and the Society. The Company Men series featured the relatives of her secret society of spies.
Activate is a Young Adult Sci-Fi standalone novel, and A Kiss Is Just a Kiss is a Romantic Comedy standalone book. If you like something darker, you can find her Horror short stories in the Never Fear anthologies!

She’s currently writing about modern day witches in her Burn series, and bridesmaids for hire who solve mysteries in The Maids! In 2020, she will also be starting a hockey novella series.

Really really good.

Another excellent book to this series. I was dyin for this book after lil bits got in the last book. Faith is a great character she is a very controlled girl and they al are but Faith as had a few ups and downs in her life. The Foundation and Society are what have built Faith to be so in control an gave her the family that she needed. So when she saw Gavin a lil bit of the control seem to slip.

Gavin is very hot and sexy. He can get control of his life his mum as a lil hold of him. But when he see Faith things go a lil different he wants her even though he isn't meant to she is someone he needs to get close to but not to close.

Brilliant book again couldn't get enough. I m dyin to read more of the series. I m really luvin the characters from this. They just seem to hook me in. I m dyin to know how things are goin to with this bunch of characters. The author really knows how to keep it al tied together. The story was really good. My heart went out to both characters in parts. They both went through a lot in this but they are great together and very sexy. I was wishing things could be more smoother for them. Life was rocky for these 2 but it made a really great story xxx.

Crystal Perkins, you did it again.

Gavin and Faith have a one night stand with plans to never see each other again, no matter how bad they both want to. But when Faith is hired as his mothers chef for her next mission for the Society, Gavin can't stay away from her. They both have secrets they are hiding from one another that could tear them apart but they both fight to not let that happen.

This has been, by far, the best book from Crystal Perkins! I loved Faith and her bad ass ways and Gavin was so yummy delicious! This book showed how truly kick ass the Society is and gives you a lot more in depth look at exactly what they do to help people.

I had so many different emotions while reading. I was rooting people, wanting kick people, wanting to rip some peoples clothes off, laughing while reading, gasping out loud. Seriously, I read this like a crazy person. So much happened that I was not mentally prepared for. There were so many shockers while reading this I could not even think about putting the book down.

I received a copy of Devouring the SECRET in exchange for an honest review.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.
=========================

Because I understand now that some people—people like Selene and Faith’s stepfather—will never change. As long as they have money and power on their side, they’ll continue to hurt people. Unless they’re stopped.

I was gifted a copy of Devouring the Secret by the author in exchange for a review.

I can not sing the praises of Crystal Perkins loud enough! I am in love with the Corrigan & Co. series and all the women (and men) of the Society! There is an endless supply of hot men and bad ass women in this series.
One wild and reckless night. Faith goes out on a limb and takes this nameless man to her place.
Gavin approaches the chef at the Foundation ball. She is beautiful and he has to have her.
They make no introductions. This night is about one thing and one thing only. Faith has been on so many missions lately that she can't remember the last time she had sex. That ends tonight! Gavin is being reckless tonight. Gavin usually has to have approval from his mother about who he dates, but tonight is about him! Tonight he is picking for his own pleasure!
The morning after, Faith and Gavin both feel awkward. Gavin wishes for more, but knows there is no future for them. The leave each other with so many questions but no hope for answers. This was for one night only.
Faith is tapped for a mission and it was so sudden that she didn't have time to study the file before the meeting. Finding out that she will be a personal chef at the Harris mansion is exciting, but how will Faith be able to do her job and maintain her distance from Gavin? It will take everything Faith has to get to the bottom of this.
Will Faith survive the secrets of her past? There are many and someone knows about them. Faith is worried that Gavin has decided that her past is too much for him.
Gavin has no idea why Faith's past has been resurrected, but somebody thinks all of it is important. Gavin is sure that Faith will have nothing to do with him when she finds out about the secrets he has kept.
Faith and Gavin are both bound for destruction. Will they be able to figure out how to get past all their secrets?
My jaw dropped several different times while I was reading. I was absolutely amazed when the scene blew wide open. Just goes to show that you don't always know how people will react when they are backed into a corner. Even those you love.

This book was perfect!
It was a great read and kept you engaged with the twists and turns. I did not see any of the twists coming and I loved that about the book!
Faith is a talented chef and she goes undercover on a mission... With her one-night stands mother. She is kick-ass, fiesty, witty yet vulnerable, insecure and feels unworthy. Faith is a fantastic chef and works well in the secret society that took her in and she has proven herself time and time again.
Gavin is a young man, who's mother is a powerful lady and he is trying to protect her. I hated that he couldn't be who he wanted to be, but when he gets the chance, I was relieved. He is a great chef, and he works so well with Faith and I loved reading about how they fall for each other.

You get to see other members of the society and their partners, as well as finding out a little history about some characters in the book.
The drama had me hoping that those who fought for the good, end up ok and safe. But I'm not going to say what happens, as you need to read and be shocked and horrified like I was!

This was a great second book in the series and I cannot wait to read more!

I got a little bit of whiplash, but overall I loved the sexy and fun dynamic between Gavin and Faith as they both tried to figure out who was behind selling government secrets. And oh man, that coconut, cinnamon and sugar scene was the best!

The second book in the series and this one starts with Faith, one of the agents from Corrigan & Co having a night of passion with Gavin......

But...as in all good stories, we can't have them never meet again can we. And when Faith goes on a mission, undercover as a chef, at Harris mansion, who is she working alongside in the kitchen? The tasty Gavin. Will they have another taste of each other?

This book kicks off biggy style, Faith is kick ass, there is drama a plenty, bad guys left, right and centre and I didn't know who was going to come out victor till they did!

Faith & Gavin are pushed to their limits in this one, trust, families, friends and enemies all pushing against them.

All the characters are getting better acquainted in my head now, I think I have my own personal headquarters in my mind....just waiting for the next mission...

007 doesn't have nothing over the Society. I loved the reference to Charlie's Angels in this book.

Faith is totally badass. Not only does she have brains but she has strength as well. Faith is easy to relate with. She has had some difficult times in her past however, doesn't allow that to impact who she is.

Gavin got sucked in to believing other people and there was a moment during the book in which I questioned his loyalty to Faith. However, he caught on to what was happening and did the right thing. He can cook dinner anytime or breakfast. Heck, I'd settle for a little snack from him. LOL

Crystal did a phenomenal job writing this book. There is a good balance between emotions, action, tension and hotness.

I loved the Epilogue about Stella and Kace. I can't wait to more of their story.

Devouring the SECRET by Crystal Perkins was an enjoyable read. I liked the storyline, really enjoyed the characters, and had no problems with the writing style of this author.

Two people who never thought they would see each other again, after an amazing one night stand, are in for a surprise. They both end up spending lots of time together, and feelings get involved. There are many twists and turns in this story to keep entertained. Both characters are hiding some major secrets and it will take a lot of help, to get them their HEA.

I really enjoyed Faith. She's such a kick a$$ female character and Gavin is no slouch either. Overall good read!

Faith and Gavin were a different read so far for the series. I have a feeling each character is going to give us something slightly more and a tad more of the backstory of "The Society". There was so much going on in this story, the trying to catch the bad guys part was well thought out, but watch out for those twists. I mean really, did not see them coming. And of course anytime you can have sexytimes with two top chefs, it's bound to be yummy.

Faith and Gavin both meet at an event that Faith catered. Unbeknownst to Faith, Gavin know who she was and planned on meeting her. Both of them are suspicious of the other and go about trying to find out what the other one is hiding. When it all becomes clear and Gavin realizes what has happened, he does his best to make things right. After Faith is cleared of the charges she faced everyone becomes fixated on making Selena pay. When it all comes to a head, things are revealed and Faith has to exact her revenge on those who had hurt her. She believes Gavin can't get past what happened and doubts all of those around her, including herself. Gavin and the rest of the Society go above and beyond to get her to see that they are there for her and want whats best for her and not out of pity. When Faith gets the shock of her life she forgets Gavin is waiting for her in the lobby for hours. When she admits this, Gavin rightfully tells her to leave and then questions her being so self-centered she can't see what she is doing and he was correct. While I enjoy the books the over-the-top way these women keep secrets from other people, sometimes huge secrets that make no sense as to why they were kept. Faith could have known what really happened instead of living with the grief and that took away from some of the enjoyment of the book for me. Gavin was also right to feel slighted that Faith, nor anyone in the Society felt it was okay to let him know what was happening. The head women in the Society go above and beyond the pale when it comes to how they treat those they supposedly love and trust knowing while keeping huge secrets. That is just hard for me to wrap my head around.

I received this book in exchange for an honest opinion.

I read this book (the second in the series) without first reading the first. Because of this I'm sure (or at least I hope) I missed some back story and character development. This story was completely lacking character development. There were more detailes about Faith's clothes than there were about the characteristics of the two main characters. I didn't learn that Gavin had dark hair until near the end... I need for writers to paint a picture in my head to describe who I'm reading about. For this reason I did not relate to the characters.

Another issue I had was with the writing style. The book keeps switching points of view: Faith's and Gavin's. I would have liked this style if the tone changed between the characters. Gavin's sections sounded exactly like Faith's and I had a problem because I could not imagine any man talking (or thinking) the way Gavin did. The conversations between the characters seemed forced and fake. I'm close to the same age (and living in the same town) as these characters, and conversations like they had, don't exist.

Despite all that, I did enjoy the overall story of the book. I wish there had been more steamy sex scenes as that was what kept my interest.

I wasn't even sure who the bad guys were going to be. Twists galore. Plus some steamy times in the kitchen!
