One viral video. Two Ryans. A fake dating disaster waiting to happen.
Claire had the perfect plan to escape the friend zone. She had the song. She had the band. She was ready to confess her love to her best friend, Ryan Robinson, with a singing candygram.
She just had one problem. She serenaded the wrong Ryan.
Instead of the sweet guy she loves, she performed for Ryan Holmes. He is the hockey team’s intimidating captain, the scariest guy in school, and the last person Claire wants to notice her. To make matters worse, she tripped into his arms while the cameras were rolling. Now the internet is obsessed with the new "happy couple."
Ryan Holmes is in crisis mode. His team is facing funding cuts, and he needs a miracle. That miracle is a local business sponsor who loves the viral video, but there is a catch. The money only flows if Ryan and Claire carry his banner in the Homecoming Parade together.
Ryan proposes a deal. He will pretend to be her boyfriend to save his team. In return, he will teach Claire how to win the guy she actually wanted.
But as the lines blur between fake and real, Claire realizes her aim might not have been off after all. She aimed for the Right Ryan, but she might belong with the Wrong one.
The Wrong Ryan is the first book in Sophie Bloom's North Canyon High sweet romance series. If you love teen romance, protective hockey captains, and fun banter, you'll love this YA sweet romance novel.
Actually really enjoyed this one. Enough drama to be interesting but not outrageous. Not too long. Slow burn but only a couple kisses not very descriptive. His grand gesture is interesting. No cursing. Characters grow and change even through the rivalry.

Fave quotes "This is great. I love running. So freeing." She sounded like she was being strangled.”
“I was helping because seeing her sad made me want to fix it. Even if the thing making her sad was another guy. Even if that made me an idiot. I was in deeper than I'd planned.”
This feels like Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han combined.
5 stars but….
Brutal truths: 1. Don’t like the title 2.some things seemed AI like they where exactly the same paragraph from earlier in the book 3.I loved this book but the conflict towards the end was just a bit hard to want to read 4.The Epilogue was about a different person and it didn't really like it wasn’t exactly fun to read it. Normally in my opinion the Epilogue are normally the best parts of the whole book.
(Hope that isn’t horrible just didnt want to write a summary). Characters:
Clair: She bakes and sews. Kind of stubborn. She’s cute, but as in all fake dating kept denying that he actually liked her. Not very open minded.
Ryan: He plays hockey and is the captain. He tries to fix a mistake the team made by dating Claire. I kind of think that is was he falls first. I could be wrong. He wasn’t stubborn but more persistent to save the team. Very dedicated.
notes: It mentioned “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before,” by Jenny Han. Loved that.
This book got me from page one, and I found it on Kindle.
These are just my personal opinions no intention of offending anyone.
This book was so cute and fun! Claire and Ryan start off in a fake relationship that slowly turns into something very real. I loved watching their relationship unfold and seeing their connection grow into something neither of them expected.
Their story had the perfect mix of fun, romance, and emotional moments that kept me invested from beginning to end.
If you’re looking for a lighthearted romance with plenty of heart, this one is definitely worth picking up!
Claire thinks she has a crush on Ryan “Robbie” Robinson. A plan to make him notice her goes wrong when she snags the attention of Ryan Holmes, the “wrong” Ryan, instead. The more she gets to know Ryan Holmes, the more she realizes that she might have underestimated him. This was an enjoyable read with no spice, just hand holding and kissing, perfect for a high school setting. The dialogue felt real and the friendships and family relationships were genuine.
This was my first Sophie Bloom book but it won’t be my last!
I enjoyed this YA romcom! Set in a high school where the football team and the hockey team have a Montague vs. Capulet rivalry, Claire - niece of the football coach - fake dates Ryan, captain of the hockey team. Author adeptly layered the narrative with other romance genres and motifs, and adroitly maneuvered the plot to not be too trope-y. I appreciated how both the FL and ML dealt with huge emotions, and the story also had very big moments! Very high school. Loved it. Looking forward to the next in the series.
I absolutely adored this book! I loved the characters, the romance, the story, just everything! There’s a lot of growth and themes the author leans into and it was done beautifully!
loved this book! one of my favorite tropes!!! loved the characters!!! so much development and the story was great! perhaps not all realistic but i enjoyed it a ton
