Although the author gets a bit tedious at times, and I had trouble following who was who among Isabella's acquaintances, friends, and family, I really enjoyed learning more about this remarkable woman. The author makes her very real, probably because she knew her personally. She may have idealized her a bit, but I still found much to admire in this hard-working, paradoxical woman.
