Because in Hart’s Ridge, justice is personal. In Hart’s Ridge, people look after their own. So when a late-night emergency shakes the town, everyone is quick to rally around the firefighters who risk everything to protect it, especially Fire Chief Alex Mercer, a man known for showing up when things fall apart.
Taylor Gray has learned that stories formed too quickly rarely hold the whole truth.
Small details begin to surface. Quiet fears. Secrets kept behind closed doors. A woman who may have been trying to change the course of her life. As Taylor pulls at loose threads, she finds herself standing against a tide of loyalty and silence that runs deeper than she expected.
Because some fires burn long after the flames are gone.
And sometimes uncovering the truth means questioning the people everyone else trusts.

I hope you are having a lovely day. I want to share with you a book that came out a few days ago. It is Working Class Hero by Kay Bratt and it’s book number sixteen in the Hart’s Ridge Series. I have read all sixteen books and I always say this is the best one yet and Kay gets better and better. These books are so good for several reasons. Let me tell you why I love these books so much.
The characters! I believe the characters can make or break a book. The author has to make you care for the characters or the books are not interesting to me. I think if I don’t like them, I lose interest in the book. Do you? This series is about the Gray family with Taylor being the central character. I’ve enjoyed all of the stories about the Gray’s. They run an animal rescue on their property and most of the family lives on the property. I think you could say they rescue more than animals.
I also love that it takes place in a small town. Everyone knows each other and nothing is secret in this town for long. Hart’s Ridge is in Georgia and Taylor in this book is the new county sheriff. A woman sheriff is unheard of Georgia. That just doesn’t happen. I have really enjoyed following Taylor and her family in the last sixteen books.
These books are about family, relationships and there is always a little crime going on in small towns. I love to hear how Taylor is going to solve the crime and how she lets it consume her mind while the investigations are being carried out. I find these books keep my interest from the time I open the cover until I am finished.
If you like a great series and like to binge read, this is a wonderful series to do that with. You can get started now. I do know that Kay Bratt has decided to continue this series. I am not sure how many more she will write. I hold my breath every time I read the next book, I worry it is the last one. You definitely need this series on your nightstand. As always, Happy Reading!
Phyllis P.S. Don’t forget to support the authors you read by leaving a review. A few words help.
P.P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. The opinions I have expressed are my own and I was not required to write a review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
Not The Tale I Wanted. Bratt's Usual Excellence Anyway. Coming out of Ticket To Ride, I was *psyched* that it looked like we were about to get a tale that mirrored my own life in rural Georgia in at least certain aspects (moreso than the series already does, and an experience that barely one percent of the American public chooses to have). I thought Bratt was going to execute on a *really* fun version of this type of tale that stayed true to the series but also introduced a new wrinkle to it.
Yeah... Bratt brushed by *that* story in about a paragraph, maybe less. Which, to be fair, she had already told me she was going to do when I told her how excited I was at the end of Ticket To Ride and what I hoped to see in this book.
What we got instead was in at least some ways *even better*, while remaining even more true to the heart and soul of this particular series, as well as its overall storytelling style. This book raises a lot of complicated issues and questions, all with Bratt's usual small town charm and heart, and these serve to give even more depth to these characters both newish and foundational. And yes, yet again, for those who know of the things Bratt speaks even publicly about her own life... yet again there are a lot of mirrors here (or at bare minimum rhymes), and yet again these mirrors (or rhymes) serve to make the tale that much more real and that much more heartfelt. And, perhaps, this is exactly why this series has resonated so well with the audience that has demanded so many more stories here than Bratt had originally envisioned. (Always an awesome "problem" for an author to have!)
Don't start with this book if you haven't been reading this series yet. The primary characters here were introduced at least a book or two ago, so you'll need those books at minimum. But seriously, start all the way back at Book 1, Hart's Ridge, and work your way here. You won't be disappointed, and you'll see what so many have already realized. This really is one of the better Southern Women's Fiction series going right now, and quite likely of the Millennium at minimum.
Working Class Hero is the 16th book in author Kay Bratt’s Hart’s Ridge series. I have read the entire collection and when each new book comes out, I feel like it’s even better than the one before it. But honestly, the whole series is great! They are part mystery, part thriller and part police procedural which all take place in the small town of Hart’s Ridge and are family oriented. In Working Class Hero, the main character, Taylor Gray has accepted the position of town sheriff. This installment centers around 2 different storylines that really held my interest. The first covers a tragedy that involves fire and the death of a local young pregnant woman. The cause behind her death is mysterious and Taylor finds herself conflicted when looking into the evidence. It was really interesting to see how it all played out and I can see why Taylor was questioning herself as to who to blame. The second storyline centers around Tula, a character from a previous book. She comes from a very dysfunctional family and is doing her best to be an upstanding individual and tries to help her younger siblings do the same. She steps up to help her younger sister but in the end it’s her newborn nephew that really benefits from her love and kindness. The ending could not have been any better, I loved how the author gave us a brief look into the future. I was so happy with how Tula’s life turns around. Two storylines, two different scenarios, one happy and one very sad. This is a series I can’t get enough of, I feel I have really come to know a lot of these characters and I’m anxiously waiting for the next book, It’s Only Love, which is set to release in September 2026 to see where the author takes the story from here. I highly recommend reading these books, so if you haven’t got started yet, what are you waiting for? Believe me, you won’t be disappointed! 5 stars!
Working Class Hero is the sixteenth book in the Hart’s Ridge series by Kay Bratt. The small town of Hart’s Ridge is shaken awake as a house fire reveals the death of Julie Carter, a pregnant woman. Taylor Gray, as the newly elected sheriff, asks Caleb Grimes to return to the department and together, they investigate the deadly fire. Their prime suspect: Alex Mercer, the fire chief. As the details come to the surface, secrets come to light and the truth behind the fire takes a turn. Tula returns to Hart’s Ridge when her sister, Lorene, goes into premature labor. With the baby in a delicate condition, Tula must fight to ensure his survival and tries to get Lorene the help she needs to finally break away from their twisted family. Who killed Julie Carter? Will Tula be able to help Lorene and her new baby? The Hart’s Ridge series has had great stories with twists and turns, suspense and shocking reveals. Working Class Hero is no exception. From the opening prologue to the closing chapter, I was hooked on Taylor’s case. While I was waiting for a shocking reveal about the killer as the first suspect is rarely the real killer but the truth behind the fire was a reveal I was not expecting. I enjoyed Taylor’s growth as she adjusts to her new role and her determination to bring integrity and honesty back to the office. Tula’s storyline was bittersweet and I even shed a few tears. I have enjoyed her journey of strength and determination to break the family cycle. If you haven’t already started the Hart’s Ridge series, I highly, highly recommend it. If you have enjoyed the Hart’s Ridge series so far, I highly, highly recommend Working Class Hero.
Working Class Hero is the 16th book in the Hart's Ridge Series by Kay Bratt. Ms Bratt is one of my newest fave authors, with the kind of stories that draw you in so completely that you stay up past your bedtime just to read one more page... until the birds are chirping and you realize you fell asleep with your glasses on again. Another series that is hard to walk away from. These are standalone books, meaning that you can read this book all by itself, or you can start from book 1 and read the series in order. It's totally up to you. That being said, here we go!
This was no ordinary fire. This one hurt. Like the one that took her baby brother's life- this one had lasting effects that shook Taylor to her core. She knew she had to be fair in her investigation, but it was so hard when it was just staring her in the face. Another innocent life taken, not so long ago. How could she keep from going after the person everyone knew was responsible? How could he expect to take a life and just walk away?
Tula Rose knew that Lorene was going to have a hard time with the birth of her baby. Just being a Skaggs meant being looked down on, and being pregnant and addicted to drugs didn't sit well with most folks. When she got the call that Lorene needed help, she feared the worst and wondered if the baby would survive. She never anticipated that things were going to be so much more complicated when she showed up at the hospital.
The women of Hart's Ridge have had to rally around each other, drawing strength from each other. The strong bonds of family and faith keep them going, and their fierce loyalty to each other and their families make Hart's Ridge a beautiful place to live.
Things have changed in Hart’s Ridge since the last book. Taylor is now the sheriff and getting settled in her new role. She and Sam agree to try to keep family as their number one goal but once she gets on a new case, things get difficult when she becomes emotionally involved. As with most of the other books, this book has two main plots that involve different people in Hart’s Ridge.
A fire that killed a pregnant woman is determined to be arson. Taylor immediately came to the conclusion that the person who started the fire was the fire chief. He was involved with the pregnant woman and while she was pushing for marriage and family, he was reluctant to take that next step. As the evidence piles up against the fire chief, Taylor has to determine if he is really guilty or if she has jumped to conclusions.
Tula has come back to Hart’s Ridge to help her pregnant sister. She really doesn’t want to be anywhere near her scummy family but feels strongly that her sister can still be saved from a life like the rest of her family lives. She misses her new life in Florida but there are some major decisions that need to be made about the new baby and she is very involved in trying to help.
Every book in this series has been fantastic. I really hope that the author continues writing about Taylor Grey, her family and the town of Hart’s Ridge.
Kay Bratt has done it again! As a long-time fan of the Hart's Ridge series, I wasn’t sure how she could keep topping herself, but Working Class Hero completely blew me away. Inspired by real-life headlines, the book takes us on a dark, emotional journey that asks a truly haunting question: how well do we actually know our hometown heroes?
When a beloved local firefighter reports finding his wife dead, the entire community immediately rallies around him. But Deputy Taylor Gray knows that public bravery doesn't always equal private goodness. Watching Taylor meticulously pull apart the layers of this supposedly perfect marriage kept me on the absolute edge of my seat. Bratt writes small-town dynamics flawlessly, capturing both the warmth of a tight-knit community and the eerie reality of secrets hidden in plain sight.
Parallel to the mystery, Tula Rose’s storyline added a beautiful, grounded layer of heart to the book as she navigates her family's painful legacy. It’s a perfect mix of high-stakes suspense, small-town drama, and genuine emotional depth.
Thank you Kay Bratt for including me in your E-ARC crew in this fantastic series, "Hart's Ridge", this series has changed my life in many ways!
This book has it all the author has really done it with this 16th installment of the Hart's Ridge series. The storytelling is very good, the characters new and already known, a fire, the death of Julie a pregnant mother to be. The fire and police investigation, Taylor Gray now the sheriff of Hart's Ridge is trying to find the clues to solve the case. The investigation of the house fire is complex and Alex Mercer the Fire Chief is looked upon being suspicious. Tula comes back to Hart's Ridge because her sister Lorene is having her baby prematurely. A complicated family story that is getting worse by the minute. The baby is born disabled and from there on Tula needs to step in and help save her baby nephew. There are several twist and turns in this book it certainly has all the great ingredients, making it the perfect crime story. The sweet story between Tula and Daniel with the hope of being a new family together and believe in second chances. The book was packed with action and the pace keeps the reader wanting more and more. Definitely one amazing read. I can definitely recommend this book. I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read and review this book!
Simply brilliant! I absolutely love all the books I've read so far from this author, they're so good and hard to put down.
The books are set in Harts Ridge, Georgia and the central character is Taylor Gray. Taylor was a Sheriff deputy, then left to run her own PI business with her husband Sam. After corruption in the Sheriff department which sees the Sheriff leave then get get arrested, Taylor is elected Sheriff.
Taylor's first case involves a fire where someone dies. She is convinced the local fire Chief is to blame, does the evidence support this theory.
Running alongside this story is another one involving Tula Rose, who last book found her trying to keep her brother out of trouble. This book sees her settled in Florida and her brother back in Georgia but doing well keeping out of her toxic families reach. Her sister now needs help as she is pregnant, so Tula heads back to Georgia to try and get her some help and out from her families clutches.
Its a great book and one I found really hard to put down, I read it in a few sessions. The books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and wider storyline. I cannot wait to get the next book as soon as it's released! I need to read more books by this author.

Taylor is busy investigating a house fire that leaves a pregnant woman and her unborn child dead. When the fire is determined to be an act of arson, and the pregnant woman is found to have been dating someone Taylor knows well, in her eyes all evidence points to one man. She’s grateful to have her friend and former co-worker Detective Caleb Grimes back on the force. His calm reasoning helps her see that she might be letting her feelings regarding the man override what the evidence shows really happened.
Tula Carrington returns to Hart’s Ridge when she’s notified that her pregnant sister, Lorene, is in the hospital under the influence of drugs, again, and is about to give birth. Tula is torn between wanting to help her sister while also missing Daniel and the life she had started in Florida. The birth of the baby sets off several life-changing events for Lorene, Tula, and Daniel.
Such an awesome addition to the Hart’s Ridge series! The suspense starts off right at the beginning and never lets go.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A respected fire chief has a past that makes his future difficult and is at the scene where a fire breaks out that kills his girlfriend and unborn son. Is he as innocent as he professes? Sheriff Taylor Gray tries to make sense of it all and has to dig deep to discover the truth, no matter who is uncomfortable with the outcome. Tula Rose is back in town. She is still trying to save Waylon and Lorene from their family legacy, and needs to figure out how to let go, in order to hold on. Life comes with choices and she has to make some difficult ones that surround her heart. Waylon and Lorene need to figure out how to reconcile their past mistakes and move forward, which isn't easy when others are trying to direct their futures. This book is definitely one where I could check all of the boxes when asking which words describe it. WORKING CLASS HERO could be read as a stand alone, but why would you want to when the previous books are all so good and the characters have developed so well over time? I appreciate receiving this book as an ARC from Kay Bratt, but I am under no obligation to write a review. #kaybratt #hartsridge #workingclasshero
As a massive fan of this entire series, I had high expectations going into Working Class Hero, and Kay Bratt completely blew me away. This might just be one of my absolute favorite books of the saga so far. From the very first page, it was incredibly hard to put down.
The stakes are higher than ever as we watch Taylor Gray step into her new role, starting off her reign as Sheriff with an intensely difficult case. Bratt handles the narrative beautifully, leading readers through a gripping investigation that culminates in an unexpected and utterly devastating outcome.
What truly anchors the emotional heart of this story, though, is Tula. Experiencing the trials and tribulations with her family, while witnessing her continued passion, unwavering dedication, and deep empathy through it all‐adds so much depth to the book.
Yet, through all of these heavy difficulties and emotional hurdles, the story rewards readers with a bright, happy ending. It was the perfect conclusion to a rollercoaster of a read, and it has left me anxiously waiting for the next book!
Thank you to Kay Bratt for providing an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is part of a series and most of the characters have been introduced in previous books. Most of the time, I'd suggest you could just pick up a book in the series and read it, but for this book, I think it would be best if you've read the previous book in the series.
Taylor has been elected sheriff and the previous sheriff has been convicted and Taylor's immediate boss has left his job as well. She's struggling to regain the town's trust in the police department when an awful event happened, leaving a heavily pregnant young woman dead, and all signs are pointing to another official in town. Taylor is trying not to jump to conclusions, but the evidence seems to be damning.
Also a large part of the story is dedicated to Tula, formerly an actress, known for her roles on TV. She's come back to town and she's concerned about her sister, Lorena, also pregnant, but addicted to drugs and other vices. The baby is born with some health issues and Tula is struggling to get Lorena back on her feet.
This is another great story - Kay Bratt does tell an interesting story! Thanks to Kay for providing me with an early version of the e-book.
Kay Bratt has written us another 5-star entertaining installment in the Hart's Ridge series. This book introduces Taylor as the newly elected Sheriff, ready to take on her new job with all the fierceness we know she brings to every case. The most recent case she has before her is definitely not what she was expecting, though - not by a long shot. Not the suspect, the victim, the evidence, her partner, none of it, and certainly not the conclusion.
Meanwhile, in Tula's world, another place we've all grown to like hanging around - things are happening, and life is getting real. Decisions need to be made, changes are being mandated, and growing up needs to be done. What's going to happen with the Skaggs family now? Who is behaving better, and who is behaving worse?
And what, you might ask, is this book's cliffhanger that Kay left us with? I'll give you a hint, it's another really really good one, and I really hope the next book features Sam...
If you haven't started this series yet, what are you waiting for? You're missing all the fun!
Working Class Hero is another page turning, thrilling read by Kay Bratt! I don't know how she does it.
A devastating house fire destroys so much. Taylor investigates, trying to determine if it was a horrible accident or if there was something more sinister and intentional going on. As she works the case and tires to prove her suspicions, she also has to look at the facts. The solving of this case took me to a place I did not see coming. I love when that happens!
One of the things I love about this series, along with each interesting case that needs to be solved, is the family dynamics that are covered in each story. The Gray family and their friends are a complicated bunch and each story gives us more of a glimpse into their lives. I've come to think of this group as my friends. I am fully invested in the lives of Taylor and her family members.
The Hart's Ridge series is an amazing set of stories, with memorable characters and interesting plotlines. I highly recommend Working Class Hero, as well as this whole series—it just keeps getting better and better.
Wow! Book number 16 in the Hart’s Ridge Series by Kay Bratt really kicks off with a bang. Taylor Grey is getting settled in as Hart’s Ridge’s Sheriff, chosen by the town after their long-serving Sheriff was found to be corrupt. It’s a hard task getting the town to trust law enforcement again and then a fire in a house where a young woman died presents a hard case where sentiment and evidence get a bit blurry.
Add to that Tula is back in Hart’s Ridge trying to sort out more Skagg’s family issues and finds her youngest sister in labour with her child, a child who is born too soon.
Waylon Skaggs is in a halfway house waiting to testify in a case which involves his older brother and the former Sheriff!
There’s a lot going on in this fast-paced page-turner, I don’t do spoilers so you will need to read the book, you won’t be disappointed. If you are new to Hart’s Ridge, start with book one with the same name, it’s a fabulous ride!
Taylor Grey has been elected the new Sheriff of Hart’s Ridge. It certainly doesn’t take long for her to get investigating a case. A young pregnant woman’s house is set on fire and she dies. This case really has hit hard for Taylor as it brings back her own memories of a fire and loss in her childhood home. She has some soul searching to do in order to get her through this difficult case. She needs someone she can trust to help her on this case and is able to bring back old friend Caleb Grimes, Detective. Tula has returned to Hart’s Ridge to try and help her baby sister Lorene who gives birth to a baby boy. Watching Tula struggle through and seeing how she finds new perspective and love with her nephew, a child with disabilities touched my heart. Family dynamics, struggles, tragedy, love, loss. I read this book in a day! Could not put down.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it.
I love revisiting Hart’s Ridge & it’s amazing characters. Tayler Gray has been elected Sheriff & is all in trying to solve the death of pregnant mom Julie Carter in a house fire. Newly appointed detective Caleb Grimes rejoins the force after taking a break when his wife went through a traumatic experience. Between the two of them they’re determined to get to the bottom of who’s responsible…just when you think you know who did it,the outcome will surprise you! Tula Rose comes back home after learning her drug addicted baby sister is pregnant. Clearly her sister isn’t mother material. Tula’s guy friend Daniel shows up,supports her & together they figure out the perfect ending. I love the style of this series, multiple storylines makes it never get boring. Even though this is book #16,it can easily be read as a standalone book. Grab a copy when it releases on 7-8,trust me you won’t regret it!
Each Hart’s Ridge book can be read as a standalone, but I prefer my series in order so that is how I recommend that you read this outstanding fictional series set in a small, realistic town. Sheriff Taylor Gray is involved in the investigation of a fire that takes two innocent victims. In this book she has to overcome her own prejudice and face facts that are hard to face but totally engaging to read about. The secondary story is about Tula who returns to Hart’s Ridge to coax her sister Lorene to do the right thing for her new baby. The circumstances of little Danny’s birth are tragic, but Tula’s heart and soul are wrapped up tightly with the new infant, and she has some hard choices to make, too. The theme of this novel seems to be making the right choice when there are gray areas instead of a clear decision that is best for everyone. I loved the family dynamics in the book, the relationships formed and renewed and the banter between the characters. It was all very entertaining and an easy-to-read story with some real thought-provoking questions that wove themselves into the plot. The characters are relatable and lovable for the most part (except for one scummy family), and the fast-moving plot kept me reading long into the night. This book was expertly plotted and emotionally satisfying as the characters work their way towards a dramatic and somewhat surprising conclusion. With a skillfully written plot and appealing characters, this novel is a refreshing and a slam dunk winner for me. I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.
This book has it all Kay has hit a home run again. This book has it all. This book has something for everyone. Tula is back with her crazy family trying to help her sister Lorene who is pregnant by her own brother and delivers a Down’s Syndrome little boy. Just to keep it interesting there is a murder/suicide for Taylor to work on as the new sheriff of Hart’s Ridge. Her friend Caleb is back working with her after finding his kidnapped wife. Both Taylor and Caleb have different ideas on the death of Julie and her unborn child., who is the father of her baby a little mysterious turn. They know who they have in mind for the murder. Tula is at the hospital right after the baby’s birth. Her sister doesn’t want to see the baby. Tula has been working through all the red tape to visit with the baby while in the NICU. Lorene wants nothing to do with the baby but goes to rehab. This is a fast paced book you want to read all night. Lovers of Hart’s Ridge one more book after this one.
Working Class Hero, # 16, in Kay Bratt's Hart's Ridge series, does not disappoint. Kay skillfully presents 2 distinct storylines - one with Sheriff Taylor Gray and her detective, Caleb Grimes, who are taxed with solving the possible murder of Julie Carter, a Hart's Ridge resident. She died in a questionable house fire and all signs point to Alex Mercer, Hart's Ridge fire chief.
Tula Carrington and the Skaggs family bring their own problems to Hart's Ridge. Tula's sister, Lorene, delivers her baby and is immediately embroiled in custody issues, rehab, and family violence. Daniel Colburn, Tula's supervisor at the Gull Haven Marina in Florida, comes to visit and plays a significant role in bringing Tula the peace and reliability she desperately needs.
Thank you, Kay Bratt for an intriguing novel. Bring on # 17.
This story in the series has two threads flowing through it. Taylor has been elected sheriff and convinced Caleb to come back to the force as a detective. Their first case is heartbreaking. They are called to a house fire where the pregnant single woman dead. Rumor has it the fire chief was the baby's daddy. What if anything is he guilty of? Then there is Tula who comes back to Hart's Ridge to deal with her pregnant sister and dysfunctional family. The baby is diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. Tula tries to help her sister with rehab and potential motherhood while missing her life with Daniel and the marina. She has a lot to deal with and some unexpected revelations are good and some not. Taylor and Tula have challenges that life throws at them but luckily they have the friends and family behind them.
Kay Bratt has done it again! When I received the arc of this book, I had to wait impatiently for three days before I had time start reading. What a fabulous way to spend my Sunday afternoon! As always in this series, Working Class Hero has multiple storylines running throughout the book. The mystery - Taylor's first as sheriff - gives us a look at why she is the right person for the job, and what makes a good leader. Tula was the focus of the other main storyline. In spite of the sometimes very weighty topics that are the focus of the book, I feel like this book offers hope which is something the world desperately needs. Thanks for another book I couldn't put down, Kay...and for the sneak peak of what's coming next. I can't wait!
The creative genius that is Kay Bratt takes us deeper into the minds and lives of characters we’ve met before.
While Tula and Lorene come from a chaotic and toxic background , discovering a better life isn’t always clear cut and making responsible choices isn’t what comes naturally.
Second chances are woven throughout this latest installment of the Harts Ridge series. Taylor and former colleague Cade are working together again on a local tragedy of a case involving a familiar character. The author demonstrates through each of the main characters that forgiveness isn’t always for the other person, and with forgiveness comes freedom.
Yet another page turner you just can’t put down from Kay Bratt! It’s like waiting for the next episode of a TV show!
Taylor Gray is the sheriff of the small Georgia town and trying to settle into her new role. Sam her husband is still running the private investigation firm they started together. When a horrible tragedy happens in the town it shakes Taylor to her core. It hits too close to home and she doesn’t know how to shake the feelings she has. Will she be able to put the facts in front of her gut feelings?
This is book 16 in the Hart’s Ridge series and did not disappoint. Just when you think you know what’s going to happen you are totally wrong. I love the development of the main characters and how we have new characters that are added flawlessly. I was given this book as part of a ARC group but the opinions and review are my own opinions
I just love everything Kay Bratt writes. Kay never disappoints. Kay has written another great story in this series and I am so looking to keep reading this series. This story has 2 stories in one. The one story has Taylor Gray coming back as the new Sherriff after the corruption that was discovered. Caleb Grimes has come back as the new detective. They are investigating a fire that killed a pregnant woman, killing them both. Taylor gets very emotionally involved in this search for the truth. In the other story, Tula comes back to try to fix her broken family and to save Lorene from them and get Lorene away from them. This is a very emotional read that involves family dynamics, love, loss and hard decisions. So enjoyable! thank you Kay Bratt for the ARC for my honest opinion.
Book 16 of my favorite Hart’s Ridge series. I’ve enjoyed every book in this series. This one felt a little different to me. Taylor is the new sheriff in town and has a heartbreaking case of arson. She is wondering if her gut is leading her down the right path. Then we return to the dysfunctional Skaggs family. Tula and Waylon have broken away and are on the mend. Lorene, facing an unplanned pregnancy, has to many obstacles to overcome and must make tough decisions. There is more of a morality issue in this half that Bratt handles extremely well. I’ve become so vested in this series. They are fast reads, well written. I love that the characters have become more like family. This last part really tugged at my heart strings. I can’t wait for Book 17 to see what Kay Bratt has up her sleeve for the next installment.
I received an ARC of this book. This is my honest opinion.
This was another great book by Kay Bratt. It definitely held my attention from the beginning to the end. Taylor Gray is the new Sheriff in town and Caleb Grimes is her new detective. They’re working on a fire case where there was a big tragedy. After collecting some evidence they thought they knew who started the fire but is their suspicion correct. You will have to read this great story to find out the real answer. The other part of this story is when Tula comes back to town to help her pregnant sister Lorene. I keep saying that this series keeps getting better with each book, but it’s true. This one centers on Taylor, Tula, and Daniel. Taylor has a new job and it comes with a need for soul searching on her part as she navigates the investigation of a fire and death. I really like where Taylor and Sam’s story seems to be heading too! I loved that we got to know Tula and Daniel better. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who have yet to read this book, but let’s just say their story is a really good one. It also looks like the next book may find itself more in their territory? Bravo, Kay Bratt!
WORKING CLASS HERO by Kay Bratt Hart’s Ridge book #16 Release Date July 8,2026
Even though this is book #16, it can definitely be read as a standalone! But it’s my suggestion that you read them all because it’s a wonderful series.
The book has two different stories going on. Sheriff Taylor Gray is investigating a fire that killed a woman and her unborn baby.
The second story is Tula returns to heart Ridge to help her sister Lorene to do the right thing for her baby.
Both stories are very interesting and will definitely keep you wondering what the outcome is going to be.
