A century after the Blood War, a fragile treaty binds humans and vampires in uneasy peace. Seven vampire council members rule from the shadows, and in exchange for survival, humans must provide monthly blood rations. Peace was never the result. Now, human bodies are currency, and corruption thrives beneath the illusion of order. Zyrenna has one protect her younger sister at any cost. Even if it means selling her own blood. Even if it means risking the same fate that killed her mother. She never expects to cross paths with one of the Seven. Rhaelin is a vampire council member—lethal, powerful, and sworn to uphold the very system that profits from her suffering. What begins as a simple transaction ignites something far more dangerous. As Zyrenna is dragged deeper into a world ruled by blood and control, Rhaelin’s loyalty begins to fracture—his desire for her turning feral, possessive, and treasonous. On opposite sides of a peace built on chains, they discover that love may be the most dangerous rebellion of all. Flamebound is Book One of the Thrones of the Veil trilogy.
this was so good for a debut novel oh my god, i was hooked from the first sentence and devoured this in less than 24 hours.
humans and vampires live amongst each other after the blood war ends. humans basically rely on vampires for survival and have to give their blood in exchange for money.
this story had a completely unique magic system and the world building was so descriptive i could immediately picture where things were taking place and felt completely immersed into the story.
zyrenna our fmc brings up her sister alone after losing their parents. you can feel her struggle of trying to navigate her grief whilst trying to do everything to keep her sister safe. the eldest daughter in me felt for her so much.
rhaelin our vampire mmc is a tortured soul and it broke my heart learning about his past and his own grief. his favourite colour being the colour of zyrenna’s eyes??! ugh i’m a sucker for that shit.
the banter between rhaelin and zyrenna had me giggling and the TENSION OMG. the patience this man had good god. i was literally BEGGING for them to give in to each other!!!
i’m hoping we will see more of the embers inner circle in the next book as i didn’t feel we had enough exploration of their characters but this was sooooo good!!!!
Truly an incredibly well written/thought out story. Will keep you invested and on your toes from the start to the end, might even have you miss your train stop for work like me because you’re so invested and cannot peel yourself away. Definitely leaves you not only wanting but needing more… cannot wait for the next book!!! I have the pleasure of personally knowing the author and am in absolute awe of her hard work and dedication, definitely felt like she had written hundreds of books by how good it was. So so so proud and would for sure will recommend for the rest of my life!!!!
Enjoyed this so much and so looking forward to the next 2 books! Touch her and die energy is my favorite. Strong and resilient FMC. The tension between Zyrenna & Rhaelin had me giggling and kicking my feet
Vampire dark fantasy romance with tasteful spice 🤌
I really enjoyed this book, it is a different take on vampires. It is a post apocalyptic fantasy novel that takes place after a war between vampires and humans and occurs in the aftermath of the humans’ defeat. It is a medium burn romance with yearning, fated mates, and a hidden rebellion. it ends on a cliffhanger and I am excited to see where the story will go in the next book.
Overall, this was a solid four star read for me, which means that I really enjoyed it, and I would read it again. It also means that I will continue the series. I would rate the spice at 2/5. There were only a few spicy scenes, which did not rival the overall plot.
Thank you to the author for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! Flamebound releases March 18th!
The beginning was a little hard for me to follow while I was getting used to the world building and characters, but the story quickly picked up, and I was hooked. As someone who loves vampire stories, this one was especially interesting to me and kept me wanting to know what would happen next.
This book features enemies to lovers and forbidden love, which are two of my favorite tropes, and the tension between the characters made the story so engaging.
Overall, I gave Flamebound 4⭐️ and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes next in the series!
