Daniel Best has done a wonderful, deep dive into where Image came from, what it accomplished, and how it crashed and burned. He has done extensive research and I doubt you will find a more comprehensive overview of this specific era.
That said, he takes nearly a quarter of the book to setup how the partners gained their Marvel fame and parlayed that into a new company.
He also desperately needed a copy editor given the typos, odd word choices, and sloppy proofreading, marring the scholarship.
