With over 72 sales to her credit since her first publication in 1987, Michigan author Nancy Gideon’s writing career is as versatile as the romance market, itself. Her books encompass genres from historicals and regencies to contemporary suspense and the paranormal. Her works have been published overseas in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Icelandic and Chinese, among other languages.

Also listed on the International Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on the indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played the character “Bar Extra.”

A national speaker on writing in general and romance in particular, Gideon is a Western Michigan University honors grad with a major in journalism and minors in history and communications. She’s a member of Novelist, Inc. and the Mid-Michigan, Greater Detroit, PASIC and FF&P chapters of Romance Writers of America®, and is former vice-president, published author co-liaison and award-winning newsletter editor for MMRWA.

The mother of two grown sons, one married and proud producer of her grandson and the other shanghaied into being her occasional assistant, she 's retired from 18 years as a legal assistant.

A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.

While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
This is also book two in the "Midnight" series and this book is also a re-release.
Nicole Radouix is a young 17 year old that sees how her mom and dad seem to love each other. So she is confused and upset when she sees her father biting another women's neck and drinking her blood. Nicole is very upset and runs away even though she too is going through something she is not sure of.
Nicole ends up in Paris where she meets Marchand La Valois and some of her fathers old 'friends'. But the 'friends' seem to be just wanting to her her parents.
This was a good story and enjoyed having the chance to read this book.

Sheltered and lonely and living under the constant oppression of the secrets her parents keep from her, the heroine is lost and confused regarding the unsettlingly feeling of being no quite normal. She is really strong, she has amazing hearing and inside she hungers for something not yet known to her. Then she sees her father feeding off a woman and her world comes crashing down. She's absolutely horrified and the man who was once her beloved father has become a monster in her eyes-something to fear. And so, being as naïve as she is and young, she flees her home and follows a painter to the big city of Paris. There, in a strange city, she is robbed of her possessions and stranded in the cold and the rain. She tries to seek the aid of her painter friend only to be told that he has been murdered. The man who lets her known the news was a good friend to the painter and a kind and decent man. He takes the frightened girl into his home who he shares with the painter’s widow, his brother and his brother’s woman. Poor and shabby living conditions mean little to the heroine who is warmed by the welcome she receives by the group of friends and the intense desire she feels for the hero. But the hero is ever embarrassed by the condition of his home and the threadbare condition of his clothing.

Once an army man cast out by his rebel father, he is now a deserter of the army and sells his pride and conscious by working for a criminal. It's fair for him to be feel betrayed and soiled when his brother knows how he earns the money for rent and yet his brother could socialize with the rebellion and even give funds over to the cause. This is a main conflict between the brothers and one that eventually results in the brother’s death. When the hero first sees the heroine, he can see the predator within the fragile looking woman. But it doesn't stop him from loving her, from craving her and from wanting to protect her from the world. Little does he know that in fact it's she who needs to protect him. Protect him from herself. She meets two others of her kind who show her her true nature and show her that she can't be trusted to keep her control around the humans. Though she doesn't entirely trust the pair, they teach her more about herself than her parents ever did. But soon their true natures come out and when she can't stomach doing what they want her to do, she takes the hero and they flee. But by that time, it's too late. The hero has seen the horrors of the vampire, lost his brother to them-which he blames on the heroine-and is disgusted by what the heroine is. He shows to her a taste of what she had shown to her father the day she rejected him and doubted his love for her. Regardless, they need the protection of her father to save them from the old enemy she seeks revenge. It takes some time, but the hero finally realizes that he still loves the heroine and more time for him to come to terms with what she is. But their problems are far from over. The hero has been bitten by the enemy and is now a slave to the villain whim. The heroine, no longer that naïve and innocent girl, shows just how formidable she can be as she fights for the safety of her family and for the man she loves.

Oh, how deliciously dramatic this story is, as is typical Nancy Gideon fashion. But I love it! The first half of this book was perfection. I loved the poverty yet the love shared by the characters and the hero's strong, kind yet sometimes quick to anger personality. I may not have entirely LOVED the heroine's characters and choices but I understood why she made them and as such I grew to love her as she evolved into the woman she becomes later on. She is only 17, she is young and she has been lied to for her entire life. Of course, she'd run away from home. Of course, she'd seek the first opportunity for answers even if the teachers are less the trust worthy. But her loyalty to the hero, her kindness and strength in the pressure of her urge to do bad things was admirable and together with the hero, they made a charismatic pairing. I fell off a bit towards the end, especially when the hero turned into a bit of a pussy, running in terror from the woman he loves just because she drinks blood. It was so unattractive and as such I didn't feel this book deserved a home run 5 star but it was still pretty amazing. Loaded with angst and drama- me like very much.

Midnight Temptation,Book 2 of the Touched by Midnight Series,  Nancy Gideon

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre:  Romance, Sci-fi and Fantasy

I’d not read book one but reviews suggested that wouldn’t be an issue, and I do so adore vampire romance stories. This one didn’t really work for me though :- (
Its a beautifully written story, full of drama and action, albeit in a subtle way. Nicole doesn’t know what she is, thinks she’s ordinary, human, and we see that really she’s led a very sheltered life, with her wealthy parents keeping her secluded from others much of the time. Then she finds out, and in an awful way, just what she is. She can’t admit it to herself, even though she’s been having strange urges recently, and she flees to the city. There her possessions get stolen on the first day,  she’s struggling to survive and gets taken in by Marchand. He’s a friend of artist Camille, who gave her a lift to the city after she’s befriended him when he was painting in her village. Camille though has been murdered, his girlfriend is devastated, his friends Marchand and his brother Frederick, and Frederick’s girlfriend are puzzled and upset, who would want to kill gentle Camille? Revolution is brewing though, and alongside that danger there’s another stalking the city. Something very dangerous, connected to Nicole’s parents, and somehow Nicole comes across the persuasive and dangerous duo behind the murders. It brings her and the group of Marchand and his friends into great danger.

It sounded great, and its well written and full of scenes that felt like I was back in that period of history. I did find all the murders a little hard to accept. From the deadly duo it seemed right, they were totally amoral, but from Nicole’s father and of course Nicole now she’s in to her deadly heritage it was difficult. I just felt they were genuinely good people at heart, and feeling that how could they just accept that to live they had to kill people? Maybe when its them or you it’s different? I don’t know – usually authors find a way out for those that want it, such as being able to pick out those with evil natures, or just able to take some blood but not murder the victims, and Nicole’s dad has learned how to minimise the kills but they still need to kill to live.....I just found that hard to reconcile and still feel Nicole and co were at heart good people.
I wasn’t really hung on the romance either, its a very slow moving book, and the romance really was just a minor part of it. It felt really as if there wasn’t actually that much going on, although in a way there was. that sounds a mess doesn’t it, sorry, it’s hard to explain how I feel about this story. There were murders, the revolution and dangers from that, and of course Nicole and the deadly duo, but somehow it all felt very low key to me, the writing was well put together but the story itself just didn’t pull me in.
Stars:Two and a half, a good book, but it didn’t really work for me.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Midnight Temptation is book 2 in Nancy Gideon's Midnight Series of historical vampire romance novels. It takes place about 17 years following the events of the first book. This is the story of Nicole, the progeny of Arabella and Louis, and her journey of self discovery. For most of her life, she's been kept in the dark regarding her father's secret life. Nicole begins to experience unexplained things about herself that make her unique from other humans. This leads her to inadvertently come across Louis's dark secret that he is a vampire and therefore, she is a hybrid. Horrified, she runs away to Paris, where she falls in with the bohemian crowd, escapes the dangers of Paris' unsavory residents and her father's past, copes with her new found lifestyle resulting from her being a half-breed, and falls in love.

Similar to the first book in the series, Ms. Gideon does a good job of not overdoing the romance. I felt the character development was much stronger in this second novel. I absolutely adored Nicole and found myself relating to her and rooting for her. Her relationship with the love interest, Marchand, was very complex and tested numerous times. Gerard and Bianca are up to their old tricks again, finding ways to torture Louis by taking Nicole under their wing. Readers are provided with more insight into Gerard, who I think is a very intriguing character and should be the featured character in a future book in this series. (I realize more books have been written in this series, but as of writing this I haven't looked to see if any actually meet this criteria.) Historical context was appropriately captured and helped the story flow. You could really get a sense of living in Paris during this tension filled era with the revolutionary ideas. The author's writing was at a good pace. So far, this is my favorite of the series and I look forward to reading more.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Nicole is 17 and is having strange things happening to her. She is physically stronger and can hear better just to mention a couple. She knows she needs to speak to her parents soon.

Her parents are so in love, it seems like they are more devoted to each other every day. They are also so loving to her. She hopes she can have that someday soon. She wonders sometimes why her mother seems to be aging and her father isn't.

One night she follows her father when he goes out at night and has the shock of her life! She sees him taking the blood of a woman, he is a monster! He sees her and runs home. A chat is coming that should have come already.

She leaves and goes to Paris, thinking she can never live with her father again., but is she afraid of the monster she feels he has become or what she feels is happening to her? In Paris, she meets Marchand, the love of her life and another couple who say they are old friends of her father. Who can she trust?

My first comment wants to be "what does a 17 year old know about love" but I do have to remember that young ladies were raised to make an advantageous marriage and few probably made a love match. Nicole has so much thrown at her in such a short period of time, she really is brave, like her mother. Marchand also deals with many emotions and I really wasn't sure how this would turn out for them.

I liked this book as much as I liked the first in this series. I felt that the characters are well depicted and I liked the little twist in the end with one of the characters!

I must say, I just adore Nancy! I just love her books and her fascinating worlds she creates. She knows just the right amount of details to give you to keep you intrigued and to make each story better than the last. Marchand and Nicole has a great story. I love that this was set in Paris during the revolution time period. I also love that you still get to see Louis and Arabella 17 yrs later. Their love is so touching and to see it grow and Louis still be so deeply in love with her even as she ages is beautiful. I hate Bianca, she is an evil witch but makes a great villain. Marchand is such a bad ass at the end of this book. This is a must read. It has everything you would want suspense, romance, and a yearning for more,

Nicole has been having weird cravings along with her body being unusually strong, not understanding why she is giving little freedom she decides to follow her father and discuss it with him. What she sees shocks her, she feels betrayed that her parent didn’t tell her that her father is a vampire and decides to run away to Paris. In Paris she is robbed and finds her friend has been killed and Marchand La Valois takes her in. As they grow closer, danger is never far away. Lots of suspense and action packed in this fast paced read. The chemistry between Nicole and Marchand is excellent. Looking forward to more in the series.

Ok so from the beginning I knew this was going to be good, but there are a few details that me as a reader would have liked different. This book begins about 18 yrs after book 1 ends. I love the characters, the twists, the love.... I'm looking forward to the next book I can only imagine where the author goes from here. I'm hoping the the small detail that saddens me eventually makes a change.

The first book in the series, Midnight Kiss, caught my attention. This book grabs you by the throat from the very first minute and never lets go.

Nicole makes a discovery that shatters her secure world and sends her running into a world of treachery and violence. She has to come to terms with who and what she is and who she trusts...and loves.

I can't wait to see what happens next.
