"This story is 'rich, dark, verdant with abundant life, decay and inevitable death.' The very aura of horror permeates every aspect."— Old Book Barn Gazette.
"An extraordinary, suspenseful tale. Ms. Gideon once again displays her awesome talents. A definite keeper!"— The New-Age Bookshelf.
Nancy Gideon is the award-winning author of over 55 novels ranging from historical and contemporary suspense to paranormal, including her “Touched by Midnight” vampire romance series, with a couple of horror screenplays thrown into the mix. When not at the keyboard or working full time as a legal assistant, she can be found feeding her addictions for Netflix and all things fur, feather, and fin in Southwestern Michigan.
With over 72 sales to her credit since her first publication in 1987, Michigan author Nancy Gideon’s writing career is as versatile as the romance market, itself. Her books encompass genres from historicals and regencies to contemporary suspense and the paranormal. Her works have been published overseas in Romanian, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Danish, German, Icelandic and Chinese, among other languages.
Also listed on the International Movie Database (IMDB), she collaborated on the indie horror films In the Woods and Savage with screenwriting and ADR script credits, and even played the character “Bar Extra.”
A national speaker on writing in general and romance in particular, Gideon is a Western Michigan University honors grad with a major in journalism and minors in history and communications. She’s a member of Novelist, Inc. and the Mid-Michigan, Greater Detroit, PASIC and FF&P chapters of Romance Writers of America®, and is former vice-president, published author co-liaison and award-winning newsletter editor for MMRWA.
The mother of two grown sons, one married and proud producer of her grandson and the other shanghaied into being her occasional assistant, she 's retired from 18 years as a legal assistant.
A prolific writer, Gideon who also writes as Dana Ransom and Lauren Giddings, attributes her creative output, which once peaked at seven novels in one year, to her love of history and a gift for storytelling. She also credits the discipline learned through a background in journalism and scheduling writing time around diaper changes, Scout meetings, band lessons and outings to the Zoo Boo...and, of course, OCD. The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.
While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.
A 400 year old vampire, the dark streets of New Orleans, and an helpless mortal bride . . . or is she? It seems Gerard may have finally met his match when he's blackmailed into taking a bride - one that has a few surprises up her sleeve. Gerard is sure he can escape the agreement - Laure has other plans. Another magically woven story by Nancy Gideon. One of my favorites of the Touched By Midnight Series!
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. This is book four in the "Midnight Enchantment" series. I would also say that it would be benefit you to read the other books in the series. I felt it help to have read the previous books. Gerard Pasquale is a vampire that is just want to be left alone but that chances when he is forced to marry a human named Laure Cristobel . Laure has to marry him too, but to protect her unborn child.
Maybe jumping into the middle of this series was not the best idea as for the first 40-odd pages I felt very lost. The stories/books themselves seem to be stand alone but I am not sure if the first book starts the time sequence; I knew where I was, I just didn't know when. If these books were really meant to be stand-alones, it would have been nice to be drawn into the time or at least have some inkling of the time from the back cover.
And I would agree with some of the other reviews that the main female character Laure is a bit too naive, for my taste. ...The story line was refreshing but the arc felt a little too predictable and wrapped up rather quickly. Will probably try some of the other books in this series to see how things pan out.
Ugh. I had hoped this was more than good. Laure was TOO naive about certain things, I say she is wilfully ignorant. Example #1: She allowed Percy to ensnare herself in a marriage to a stranger: at first, she was betrothed, but then, her fiancé beat her and she broke it off, and now, she allowed herself to be married to someone whom she thought was an old man (but was actually Gerard}. I can understand her motivation but that's just taking gratitude too far. Example #2: She did not simply tell Gerard that she was pregnant and actively uses voodoo to seduce Gerard (with this method, she was possessed by some sort of demon) to make him think that the baby she's carrying was Gerard's. Which was just foolish since the baby won't even be some kind of hybrid). And these are just the half of it. Now, for Gerard. He's not only rich financially, he also has an abundance of cynicism and angst. Plus, he makes no move against his enemies, or rather, at Percy. I expect aggression, even a calculated move against Percy for retaliation, but noooo, he just sits there and tolerates it (well, as much as he can). Sigh. Let's just conclude Nancy Gideon's stories are not my cup of tea.
What an amazing book. Nancy sure knows how to write a drama with twists and turns and the heroines in her books are amazing. Laure Pascale was beautiful and brilliant. Went through hell but still had faith in love and showered Gerard with her true love. Gerard was amazing. Pretending nothing affects him but everything did. Humanity wasn't lost like he wanted Laure to believe. Loved this book immensely. Nancy works magic with her stories. Highly recommended.
This def had an interesting twist. I believe if you read it thoroughly you'll find that even though it's about early times, it resembles what some people today are like. Def an awesome read. I recommend it highly. And i also recommenf her other books. I havn't read them yet but i can't wait to!!
This book was a re-read for me. The first time I read it I really liked it, but that was years ago. This was ok but I did not like ti as much as I did the first time. The ending was probalby the best part. I'm begining to think that I'm getting out of my vampire stage, the books all seem to be pretty much the same.
I have really liked some of Nancy Gideon's recent books, so I thought I'd try her backlist. I did not care for this early work of hers at all, though. I will stick to her new releases, which rock.
