Shadow Strike #3

Shadow Watch

Rate this book
I disarm bombs for a living.
Feelings are a different kind of explosive.

When Tidewater’s communication systems are hacked and classified training schedules leak, Lennox “Nox” Bradshaw is brought in to fix it. She’s brilliant, sharp-tongued, and allergic to authority.

Then she uncovers something worse than a breach—malware designed to cripple the base during a live joint exercise.

And when she gets too close to the truth, someone plants a bomb in her quarters.

I’m the one who responds to the blast.
I’m also the one who decides she’s moving into my beachside cottage until we stop whoever’s behind this.

The threat isn’t just digital. It’s inside the perimeter. A former Navy cryptologic tech with a vendetta—and help from someone on base.

If the malware triggers, comms fail. Security collapses. Operators die.

Nox trusts her code. I trust my hands.
But forced proximity has a way of burning through defenses.

I’m not afraid of explosives.

I’m afraid of wanting the one woman I might not be able to save.

Lennox or Nox as most people call her has been brought to Tidewater to help assess the extent of the data breach. Having left England and her family behind, she's finally building a life of her own on her own decisions. The problem is that the breach is more serious than first thought. Griffin work focused. Being in charge of explosive training keeps him busy. Although he has sworn off any form of relationship, it's too much of a distraction. The base has already had two breaches recently and now this is effecting a serious part of the camps training. When a package is left at the B&B that Nox is staying at, it's obvious that she needs to have more protection. Staying in Griff's loft apartment seems the perfect solution. Is there a way to find who is controlling the breach. Just who is involved and where is the information actually going. Can Griff keep his feelings to himself, when he finally accepts the obvious chemistry between them. This is another brilliant story that builds with each book. Just who is engineering the attacks, and where will it end. Delta has done it again the suspense is perfect and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

A new adventure has arrived in Tidewaters and this time it's Nox and Griff's turn.

Nox is a tech genius that's her world her entire life, she's spent years building her reputation and becoming a strong woman, capable of overcoming anything life has thrown her way. However, now she faces a threat that will test every one of her skills and put her life in danger and the one tasked with protecting her will be Griff, the man who from the very first moment, awakened in her an attraction she had managed to keep under control until now.

Griff is methodical and precise, someone who keeps everything under control, his life is perfectly organized and he doesn't allow anyone into his heart as a way of protecting himself. He plans, executes, and completes his missions flawlessly but this time everything is different because his task is to protect the woman who awakens emotions in him he never expected to feel.

In the midst of danger they will both have to confront the tension between them, they are different but they also share much more than they realize. Both are strong, having learned to survive and protect themselves from pain, which has led them to become emotionally closed off, even so feelings growvand a point is reached where neither can deny them any longer.

When they finally cross that line, everything changes, their hearts had already made their decision long before they were aware of it and now they must learn to cope with what they feel while trying to discover who is threatening the base and stop them before it's too late.

Despite all the conflicts they both understand that together they are stronger, they learn to trust, to support each other and to become each other's refuge even though it's not an easy process. Little by little they allow themselves to open their hearts and that's how they not only manage to save the base but also protect what they have built and the place they can finally call home.

It wasn't easy for either of them, Nox values her independence but also longs to love and be loved, to find someone with whom to build a future. She struggles with her feelings for Griff but in the end she understands that her heart has already chosen, he not only protects her but also accepts her just as she is strong and capable of facing anything.

Meanwhile, Griff sees his perfectly ordered life completely transformed from the moment Nox appears, he tries to keep his distance and act professionally but the tension between them is palpable from the start, unspoken feelings are ever-present, growing until they become impossible to ignore.

They both struggle, but in the end neither can deny love, together they build something beautiful, something that heals their wounds and gives new meaning to the word home. They support each other, respect each other and give each other the space to be themselves which makes their growth as characters truly special.

Ultimately, I loved them so much, their story stays in my heart, showing how love, trust, and mutual protection can pave the way to a future together. Because when love arrives, there's no way to ignore it; you can only accept it and let fate take its course. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I really look forward to my visits to Tidewater navel base with all the wonderful, larger than life characters.
Lieutenant Griff Holland was leader of the bomb disposal team at Tidewater navel base, it was his job to keep the base safe and today was Thursday, a day that he looked forward to, the day that he swept the computer centre and exchanged barbed comments with the beautiful blond with the pixy haircut, that blond was the brilliant , Nox Bradshaw, in charge of cyber security.
British Nox was the best at what she does, she had been brought in specially to sort out the digital security at the base. Nox was a loner, a sharp tongued, sarcastic control freak, she and stable, steady, totally in control, Griff had a grudging respect for one another and maybe, something a bit deeper.
When Nox uncovered a dangerous breach in the security, a breach that put her life in danger as well as the safety of the base, it was to Griff that she turned.........this has to be a case of the unstoppable force and the immoveable object. Griff insists that to protect Nox, she has to stay with him in his well protected but spartan loft apartment but is he prepared for Nox invading his orderly space and reorganising his apartment ? This has to be a mistake, two controlling people, loners but with a combustible spark between them, living under the same roof, what will happen if they cross the line ?
This is a brilliant story, the attraction between Nox and Griff goes deep, the tension smoulders, their discussions swith between witty, sarcastic banter to quite philosophical discussions. Griff makes Nox feel safe but she would never admit it, this story is action packed with mounting pressure, whoever is trying to destabilise the base at whatever the cost, has inside help, but who ? the clock is ticking as Nox's hands fly over her keyboard.
I must admit the technical data went way over my head but Kudos to the author for her research and it certainly didn't spoil my enjoyment.
I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.

SHADOW WATCH is the third instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult SHADOW STRIKE military suspense series. This is explosives expert Lieutenant Griff Morrison, and data analyst / civilian contractor Lennox ‘ Nox’ Bradshaw’s story line. SHADOW WATCH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Griff and Nox) SHADOW WATCH follows in the wake of Nox’s discovery of an intelligence breach, a breach that requires countermeasures and the knowledge of counterintelligence that may or may not be connected to the previous investigations, military cyber training, the Joint Expeditionary Base Tidewater and the Navy SEALs.

The world building is detailed and laced with technical terminology referencing data analysis, cyber technology, military operations and NCIS investigations. As Nox is pulled further down the proverbial rabbit hole, Griff is determined to take down the person responsible.

The relationship between Griff and Nox begins as a work assignment but threats against Nox force Griff to take charge of Nox’s safety. Working and living together means up close and personal contact, contact in which our couple begin to fall. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are familiar and determined. We are reintroduced to NCIS Special Agent Rivera, Dr. Gwen Abernathy , Lieutenant Commander Holden Lange, and marine biologist Fallon McKay.

SHADOW WATCH is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, friendships and relationships, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is intricate and complex but the conflict resolution is too fast and behind the scenes. The characters are desperate and charismatic; the romance is subtle and seductive.

In today's world, this could be an actual scenario. Luckily, this is just a story. Tidewater is under a massive cyber attack. The attack is so well planned out and massive, it has the possibility of destroying Tidewater. It will take a strong team to stop the attack before it happens. Unfortunately, Nox and Griff are almost like oil and water at times. Both are extremely independent and are not willing to open their hearts. As the attack ramps up Nox works fearlessly to stop each attack on the communication system. As the attack ramps up, the Griff becomes Nox's eyes in the field. That holds its own danger as explosives and technical trip wires are showing up. Time is limited before a huge joining training exercise is planned. But luckily, there is still time to finally act on the mutual attraction these two have to each other. As the stakes go higher on base, so do the stakes for their own hearts. While they trust each other professionally, the question becomes - can they trust each other with their hearts?

This is a fast moving story and if it has one drawback, it would be how technical the story line is. If someone with no tech knowledge picked this story up, they might have a problem understanding parts of it. Maybe not, but just be aware that is a possibility. Having said that, I am not sure the author could deliver the book the way it needed to be, with less technical jargon.

All in all it was a great story and a good addition to the other books in this series. The treat against Tidewater may be stopped for now, but only now. Someone or some organization is determined, but so are the men and the women who stand by them,

Lennoz “Nox” Bradshaw is still on site when a threat is directed at Tidewater’s entire communication system. She had arrived previously to investigate security issues at the base. Now she has determined that someone, possibly from within the base, is working to take down the entire communication system, but when and why? Lt. Griff Holland, the lead in charge of supervising and maintaining the various security panels, is called when a possible explosive device has been found. Thanks to his “steady hands” he is able to stop the status of the device before it can explode. There follows a complete search of all communication sources for any other issues. When Nox is threatened at her off site home, Griff decides that she needs to move on to the base and into his secure home. She manages to tempt him even while maintaining her ability to search for a way to undo the threat. The tongue-in-cheek conversations between them makes the story move along as they fight their growing attraction. He understands her feelings of not always fitting in with others, including her family, as they often discount her brilliance in the computer work that she does. Will she finally be able to end the threat to the base and commit to a relationship with the man who understands her dedication. Will she be asked to remain on site to ensure that the other bases do not face the same threat? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Romance was in the air for contract computer analyst Nox Bradshaw and EOD specialist Griff Holland as threats came against Tidewater Military Base. Someone had planted code in the computer system to shut the base down on the biggest day of the year. Nox was working feverishly against time rewriting code to stop the shutdown. For her security, she ended up living with Griff, and she took over his loft. He said, he would never become attached to someone after watching his mother leave him, and his bestfriend lose of his partner. Even the loft had a sterile look until Nox came to live with him. Nox left home in England at eighteen never looking back. Her mother made light of her intelligence, her father tried to use her as a bargaining chip, and her brother was jealous of her. Even though she came from money, she earned a full scholarship on own in the US as her escape. She had made it on her own for so long, that she was afraid to let down her walls letting someone in. Would Nox and Griff be able to stop the shutdown in time? Would they find their happily ever after? Enjoy this fascinating story as the countdown begins.

These two are both responsible for the safety of the military base, but from different avenues. There's a love-hate relationship present, mostly internally, as neither wants to acknowledge the awareness they posess of the other's presence or actions. Knox's British background plays a part in her stand-offish nature (that's putting it mildly), but it's deeper ingrained than that. Griff has his own reasons for wanting to keep Knox at an emotional distance. When the threats step from the cyber world into the tangible, and land on Knox's doorstep, it's enoughto move her to Griff's for protection (unhappily I might add). The tension between them grows as the hunt for the cyber threat escalates. They'll have to resolve the interpersonal tension (at least to some degree) to neutralize the threat.
This story pulls you into the tension between Griff and Knox right from the start, and quickly adds the cyber threat factor. The flow and dynamics make it difficult to look away from this snarky, sizzling read. I was given a gift copy and voluntarily provided this review. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

Nox and Griff’s story is a mixture of military intrigue and forced proximity romance. They have been orbiting each other for months, until things get very real, extremely fast. Someone is setting up Tidewater to fail in a major way during an upcoming event and the way it’s set up, unplugging the computers won’t fix it, Nox ( the computer specialist ) has to find a way to make the whole base safe in the event of a complete computer blackout, that means no communication, no access to cameras, electricity… everything is run via a computer system that has been overrun by terrorists with the ability to shut everything down, and no clue as to who or why or how long it’s been under way. This is book 3 in the Shadow Strike series and the best to date ! I loved the mix of military intrigue and romance, Nox and Griff are fantastic characters by themselves, but put together as a couple makes them perfect ! 5✨’s for a well written book full of heat ! Griff Holland was in charge of getting rid of unexploded ordnance and bomb threats at Tidewater, and with increased security, he was charged with making sure that the Comm building which housed Lennox Bradshaw's computers secure. Lennox (AKA Nox) whose contract started as a security audit, but became a counter-intelligence operation when found breadcrumbs from previous operations against physical infrastructure a coastline, medical response capabilities after equipment thefts and now digital communications from third party who planted malware throughout the base systems over a long period of time...After IED found at Nox's B&B in town, she was moved to Griff's apartment in former industrial building which only had one way of getting in and could be secured more than large Victorian guesthouse...but will close proximity lead to something more for the prickly Brit and man who doesn't do commitments?? You will need to read this roller-coaster thriller to see what happens...I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.

Lennox Bradshaw or Nox as she prefers, has been hired to conduct an audit of Tidewater's Cyber infrastructure and what she finds goes much deeper than supply theft. Lieutenant Griff Holland, Navy SEAL and explosives expert is tasked with weekly checks of Nox's workstation security. But when the hacker responsible for the security breach realizes that Nox is getting close to identifying him, she begins receiving threats. Griff will insist that the safest place for her when she is not on the military base is his apartment, he didn't expect to enjoy having the sharp-tongued Brit living so close, nor that he would not want her to leave.
These characters are all compelling, realistic, and beautifully written. This is a suspenseful and steamy read with some suspense, twists and turns in the plot that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. Fantastic book that I recommend to other readers.

First and foremost, I really did enjoy reading this book!! It has a great story line and I have enjoyed reading this entire series and hope that Delta continues with this story line, it is fascinating!! That being said, I really had a hard time liking Nox, she is very sarcastic, shows absolutely no emotions and I really kind of wondered what the attraction was that Griff saw that I couldn't phantom besides the obvious "beautiful" reason. I mean she opens her mouth and hatefulness comes flying out. After several days of this treatment most men would stay clear. I received an advance review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Griff on the other hand was wonderful, very protective, took his job really serious and with great pride. He has a great personality and gorgeous to boot. All I can say is Nox is a very lucky girl to have found someone to put up with her. Again, this really is a great story and I do recommend it, I just wish Nox wasn't quite as hateful as she appeared.

Griff and Nox - both masters of their job skills for keeping others safe, and at building internal walls to protect themselves. Griff defuses explosives and Nox defuses cyberattacks and both think that having no emotional ties is the way to keep from being hurt. Nox wasn’t my favorite character - she is so closed off that she seems snotty and entitled and I don’t care HOW smart she is. Griff is very particular and organized (in his line of work, he HAS to be) and that works well with Nox’s high expectations for those around her, but he is also very accommodating and observant which Nox should’ve been a LOT more appreciative of than she was! A very intense story, kept me on the edge of my seat! I’ve really enjoyed the Shadow Strike series!

A captivating read, wonderful heartfelt read that I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of
Into Nox and Griff have approached this problem in a very complex number of ways and it is essential that there is a wealth of action in this book and is a very heavy and detailed manner that readers will be able to understand.
If you are not that Nox and Griff’s romance was interesting it is a simply captivating read and it seems that it is a captivating read that will hold you riveted in this simply captivating book. I was left looking forward to the next book in this in this series it is a simply heated and emotional read that held me riveted.
It is an intense and suspenseful read and I guarantee that other readers will enjoy this book as much as I have,
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This is Nox and Griffin's story. It was better than the others in that the readers had a sense that the main characters had known each other for a while. They had a shorthand in communication. This one flowed much better, had its funny parts and action. The action got a bit confusing towards the end. It seemed a bit rushed as if the author had a hard page number to end with and was running behind. It was nice that there wasn't any insta love and the plot & character interaction pulled the reader in. There were a few story lines that just ended but would have been interesting and added to the story. Once was Nox's family. We got a bit but that was about it. The other is the threat at the end. Griffin's reaction was extremely low key. Other than that, this was much better. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Tide Water base team has been growing on me and this edition saw to an entertaining afternoon read. Nox is contracted when there's a breach in the communications system on base. Not your ordinary hacker, even Nox had to grudgingly acknowledge the precision. Griffin is so attracted, but refrained from admitting it. He sticks to no attachments, no losses. Living in close proximity after the bomb threat at the B&B, she's slowly, but surely invading his territory. Plenty of romance in between the terminology terms and late night suspense. Delta's attention to detail and research is outstanding as per the norm.

Another suspense from Delta James surrounding the base at Tidewater. Nox is still rearranging and adding to her keys to follow the data encryption and looking for malware and breaches to their sensitive information. When she notices a signature that should not be there the shift in orders and checking the protocol steps up a few notches.
Griff is assigned as her shadow and to keep her safe to meet all assignments and protocols. This a lot more concentration on writing and understanding coding and find where it becomes sinister in intent and accomplishment.
I found this book keeping me on my toes and forever suspecting anyone of being corrupt. A pity we didn't get to reveal who they are this time.

Nox is called in so she can fix the communication system breach. Griffin who is dedicated to his work in bomb training and allergic to relationships since they are a distraction, ends up working closely with Nox. He moves her to his loft for more protection after a bomb is planted where she is staying. This seems like the best solution to keep her safe while they solve the breach and more serious issue being found along the way, what Griffin doesn’t plan on is the tension it creates between them. This suspenseful romance will leave you at the edge of your seat as each book adds to the suspense as they work towards finding answers. This is another excellent addition to this incredible series.

Loved the book. Nox and Griff in some ways are so much alike but in others diametrically different. Neither one knows how to let someone into their lives and that is a piece of hard won knowledge for both of them.
This book carries the Tidewater story forward in a wonderful way. Each couple has had to figure out how to come to gripes with their partner in what ever way works for them.
Nox and Griff deal with the attack on the base while learning how to come together in a way that works for them and brings them to the point of realizing that they each are what the other needs and wants more than anything else they have going on in their lives.

When Nox discovers malware on the bases communications system she becomes the target of someone intent on infiltrating the base, Griff is already drawn to her but when she is placed in protective custody he brings her to his home. I loved the tension between these two. They both have experienced loss and have distanced themselves to avoid being hurt. Working through their issues reminds me about our human feelings and how we work them out. The tension in the story keeps you reading and cheering them on, so the bad guys don't win. I really loved this book.

Nox, the civilian computer analyst and Grif. EOD specialist make a great team.

Both trying to protect themselves and trying to do a job that requires interaction.

The way the two dance around each other trying to keep distance makes the story interesting relationship wise.

But the meat of this book is actually what is happening around them. Trying to find threats that are behind the walls of the computer but threats that are right in front of them both.

There is heat in this book but the kind that just makes you smile.

I did like the way Nox and Griff approached the problem in similar mindset, but from different angles. However, there isn't much action in the book and it is heavy on technical details. If you are not into that kind of thing, it may not be as enjoyable for you.

Nox and Griff's romance was interesting. It felt kind of cool and methodical to me, which worked for their characters. Yet their connection seemed real and intense in its own way, but it wasn't what I would call heated or overly emotional.

It's not a fast paced read with non stop suspense. The overall tone to me had a few low key suspense moments with a hint of danger here and there. Rating: 3.5 Stars

This book was so good it was fast paced with the adrenaline pumping when someone get information off the government systems trying to find out who is hacking the system to get all the information needed. The characters were amazing, Griff has had his eyes on her with her green eyes, he can't stop thinking about her so he looks forward to their date on Tuesday's Nox Bradshaw is trying to protect the system. Knox is at the computer she needs to follow the footprints. Griff and Nox are working closer together and the heat betweenthemjust get hotter until they cannot hold back.

Lennox “Nox” is called when Tidewater’s communication systems is hacked.

She is a woman who doesn’t take orders, sassy, stands her ground and is as gorgeous as her brain is sharpe.

While looking into the breach Nox finds a that the base and those on it and now herself are danger.

Griff is the man assigned to look after her. The only way to keep safe is move her into his beachside cottage. A protector and a man of honour finds his patience pushed and other buttons.

Clashing of heads, danger everywhere and true hot chemistry.

“Shadow Watch” by Delta James

-A romantic suspense story about a cyber breach at a naval base and two strong main characters, Lennox/Nox and Griff. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Nox is a skilled cyber expert, and Griff is a bomb disposal leader. Both are serious, independent, and guarded. They must work closely and even live together for safety while a dangerous threat grows at the base.
Full of action, tension, and slow-burning chemistry, it becomes a story about trust, teamwork, and love. Delta James once again writes a great book! One of my favorite authors.

Great series that is so good you can’t stop reading. Tidewater is gearing up for the biggest joint tactical trading exercise and the discovery of encrypted data that would affect the entire base. Lennox Bradshaw is a cyber and computer expert brought in during the medical supply crisis. Then her position was extended when an internal security breach was discovered. When her life is threatened, Griff Holland was assigned to work closely with her to protect and reveal threats to the entire base. This is an action packed page turner.

This is the third book in the Shadow Strike series featuring Nox and Griffin. Nox has been hired to look at Tidewater’s cyber structure. Threats begin as she uncovers more than expected. Griffin, a Navy SEAL explosives expert is now her protector. This was a story full of technical talk about coding which at times slowed me down a bit. Griffin and Nox’s relationship growth was entertaining as they both fight the attraction. The banter, sass and forced proximity were added a break from the technical aspects. Great story. Nox is auditting the bases computer system when she finds a breach. It was a decoy for a logic bomb that is waiting to shut down all communication. The same night at her bnb a bomb is set at her door. She will be rescued by Griff, who will put her in his home to protect her. Both Nox and Griff have baggage and they will struggle to deny their connection as they work together to find the breach and stop the danger to the base. I enjoyed reading this book which was full of danger, tangled emotions and a happy ending.

A fascinating story that is all too probable. I have to admit that I am not sure what it says about me that I understood defusing a bomb but I have no understanding about what Nox does except that she is truly brilliant. This is a story that is really hard to put down and completely absorbing. This is not the end of the story but the immediate threat is removed and Nox and Griff have found their happy ending. The dialogue between them is somewhat unique and I love the way Nox fixes his apartment and teaches him about tea! A great read and I cannot wait for the next one.
