Once, I destroyed my fated mates. This time I'm going to save them.
One moment, I'm living my downtrodden disowned, outcast, and barely scraping by.
The next, I'm wrenched into an alternate universe where I'm rich, privileged—and dead.
The murder isn't public knowledge yet. If I pose as my spoiled other self, I can infiltrate the upper echelons of magical society to flush out my own killer.
If only I didn't walk into Luminary Academy and find myself face to face with my worst my fated mates.
These formidable men have no idea I'm their destined match—or that I ruined their lives in my own reality. At best, they see me as a rival. At worst, a heartless enemy.
But our fractured connection keeps pulling us closer despite my efforts to resist.
I need to expose the murderer and leave this world before our bonds can spark. Because no matter how much my would-be mates torment and crave me, they have no idea how much blood I have on my hands.
One wrong move, and I'll be the death of them... again.

Thank you so much Eva for sending me the Audio, it was FANTASTIC!! I feel like I finally found a new series that could scratch my itch for something similar to The Bonds that Tie series! A paranormal why choose with an interesting premise, our FMC is torn away from her life and her fated mates into an alternate universe where her doppelgänger has been murdered and she’s forced to take her doppelgängers place in secret to discover who the murderer is. However in this universe her mates have no idea they are destined to be her matches and it is SO fun seeing how this plays out. I need the next book 😭😭
this was literally sooo addicting! i was completely locked in by chapter 2. the premise of this book is *𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘧’𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴*
the book starts off with 𝙀𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚, our fmc, getting immediately pulled into an alternative universe by her aunt after that universes 𝙀𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚 (or 𝙀𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚) abruptly dies. and guess what? she has to solve her own murder in order for her aunt to send her back to her original timeline and life 🤭
watching 𝙀𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚 navigate this new but same world, fall for her fated mates alternative versions (those flashbacks ❤️🩹), and solve her own murder was such a fun wild time!!
i absolutely love 𝙀𝙡𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙚 and can’t wait to see her be a baddie next book!! 💞 as for the guys we sort of get crumbs of them + the romance so i’m stoked to get more next book. i fear im going to love them all 🤪
that ending was good 🙂↕️🙂↕️ looking forward to book 2 hehehe
What an undercover banger. I genuinely think this would’ve been a five-star read for me if I had immersive read it. Not because the world-building was overly complex, but there were a lot of moving parts different elements, terminology, characters and since they’re all voiced by one narrator, it took me a minute to really connect with the MMCs. I feel like if I had been reading along, that last piece would’ve clicked into place and this would’ve been a perfect five-star experience. That’s no fault of the author at all just a personal preference. So if you’re picking this one up, I’d definitely recommend immersive reading. The audiobook is fantastic, but I do think you might miss a few things if you’re only listening.
Now can we get a round of fucking applause for this concept??? I was hooked immediately. An alternate universe where the FMC, Elodie, gets pulled from her world into another one… to solve her own murder??? Because the version of her in that universe was killed??? Add in a murder mystery, an academy setting, why choose, magic and fated mates….I’m sorry, how is that not the best thing ever?? I have SO many questions about how this is all going to play out. Like yes, she’s building relationships with the men in this universe… but what about the ones she left behind?? I need answers immediately.
This story was seriously addicting. It’s one of those books that just doesn’t have dull moments I was constantly entertained and fully locked in. Someone is trying to kill her… I mean, technically already did… and I have absolutely no clue who it is. It feels like this book was just building momentum, and the rest of the series is about to send me into a full tailspin.
I’m really hoping that in the next book I’ll develop stronger connections with the MMCs. Right now, I feel like I’m still getting to know them, so I can’t say I’m in love or pick a favorite yet (tragic, I know). But I do love Elodie so much. I’m really excited to see her come back into her true self instead of the version of her from this world.
One of my favorite things is discovering a new why choose series to obsess over, so yeah… I’m on cloud fucking nine right now. And this one isn’t just vibes the plot is solid. Between the murder mystery and the magic system, I’m so intrigued. It feels unique, and I can not wait to dive deeper into it.
This is 100% one of those series where, if all the books were out, I’d binge the entire thing without hesitation. The chokehold is REAL. I’ve already been telling everyone in my real life to read it 😂
BRB while I go hunt down a release date for book two 👀
PS - I am a little HOOOO for a professor student moment hehe. I am being FED (the one scene that we got) 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵
I absolutely loved this story! I loved the buildup, the way you slowly get to know the characters. This story starts off with a bang, and there’s a lot happening, all at once, but then it slows down and allows you to truly get to know the characters and the you’re also introduced to the very unique magic system within Bloom & Blood.
At times, I had a little bit of difficulty understanding the magic system and their world and how things work, but as time went on in the book, I think I have a pretty firm grasp on it.
I really enjoyed Elodie’s character, especially with her being thrown into a completely different, alternate universe. She was tough, but with a soft heart, and reading about her inner struggles while dealing with being in a completely different world/alternate universe, made me just want to hug her at times. The loneliness and isolation she felt, while trying to solve the mystery of who murdered her “other” self just made me feel so sad for her, on top of her also having to navigate staying away from her fated matches.
The book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger and I’m so excited to read the next book!!
Wow. Eva really had me at the edge of my seat. With the twists and turns the story took, I found myself wanting to "hear" more. The fact that she made me hate what one of the characters decisions has brought on and how it affects the rest of the story, and did it so well, that you didn't hate them until that last moment, was perfect.
This story is definitely a great recommendation for those of us that enjoy an enemies to lovers, why choose, magical fantasy with some spice sprinkled in.
So, well executed.
Thank you Eva, for the chance to read this as an ARC.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Thank you so much to Eva Chase and BookSirens for the e-arc!
This was an absolutely addictive start to what I think will be a fantastic urban fantasy series. Eva Chase's writing has a way of sucking you into a story immediately. Elodie is such a fun FMC, and her struggles and fears are palpable. All of her actions, wether you agree with them or not, make sense and it's so interesting to see her try to navigate an alternate universe.
The plot is stellar. The murder mystery, shady organizations, and world changing secrets are all threaded together with such excellence. I love all the little hints, and I am dying to see what happens next because I have SO many questions!! The world with matches and powers is so cool, and Eva Chase did such a great job of building up Elodie's home and her new reality. The parts where Elodie describes the differences are so fascinating. PLUS, the unanswered mysteries from her first world - who tried to kill her there?? - are SO intriguing and I need answers now.
The romances are all so insane. Because falling in love with alternate versions of your matches is lowkey insane lol. I enjoyed all of the boy's POVs but have to say Cole was probably my favourite. I shout out Eva for also creating connections to Elodie's actual matches, where we can feel the love between them even if they're not on page. The chemistry is THERE between Elodie and everyone and the different progression of all four relationships is so well done considering how slow burn it is with most of them. I'm desperate to see her relationship with Asher okay.
The writing is addictive, the plot is front and centre with the romantic intrigue interwoven with expertise. I'm so ready for book 2!
Thank you to Eva for entrusting me with a beautiful physical copy and an ALC!
Bloom & Blood by Eva Chase The Second Fate of Elodie Devine book 1 Out today!!!
Duet narration by Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter Holy smokes Rose and Stephen did a fantastic job with this story! There were a lot of characters to voice and I enjoyed them all and their voices overall! They brought the angst and emotion that was needed and I had a great time! Audio note: My brain needs faster speeds for audio and this narration/recording sounded great at higher speeds.
Dark academia Multiple POV, why choose, underdog FMC, alternate/parallel universe, m Elodie has been ripped from her existence and plopped down into a parallel universe. The people are the same, but not the same. For one, she is no more in this one and her someone calling herself her aunt has pulled her here asking for help to solve what happened to this universe's Elodie. No one knows it is her and everything is different. Her four fated mates don’t know they are connected and they all despise her. She just wants to figure out what happened so she can get back to the mates she has left in her world. But the connection between them all is real here and they are drawn together. Can she survive whoever has it out for her and resist these men who are her mates, but not her mates?
OH. MY. WOW. I absolutely ate this book up! It gave me some Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac vibes but the parallel universe bit and relearning who she is here and how things are different was unique and absolutely addicting. I listened to the audio and was startled when I reached the end of the book because noooooo I wasn't ready for it to end! Annnnnd now I need to go read more of Eva's books while I wait for book 2! (Out in June, but you better believe I will be begging to ARC read it!)
I'm obsessed and I want the second book NOW PLEASE. Usually why choose romantasies cap off at 3 stars for me. They're all so similar that very few leave a lasting impression. This one? EXTREMELY UNIQUE.
We have an FMC that was dragged into AN ALTERNATE REALITY. Yes, you read that right. It's like if the marvel universe and a fantasy book with magicals had a baby. Delicious. I ate it up and left no crumbs.
ANYWAYS, our FMC Elodie gets taken from her reality and pulled into another by her aunt, because in this reality Elodie was just murdered. She plays investigator to try to figure out who killed her so her aunt will send her back to her own reality. It's mystery and magic in one, and the author does a great job of spoonfeeding information without giving it to us all at once. We go on the journey with Elodie and are just as confused as she is at times.
On the worldbuilding aspects, a lot of things were left open. This book focused on the investigation into Elodie's death moreso than the world she lives in. We get bits and pieces as to how the magic works, what the political landscape is like, and what the world around suffers from, but that's definitely not the focus and I can tell. I'm not necessarily mad at it, but I do hope book 2 delves into that aspect more, as the pieces I saw I liked.
As far as the relationships go, and along with the alternate reality, this is what sets it apart of other why choose books for me. Elodie spends the whole book thinking about her reality and HER matches while still being drawn to the version of them in the reality she's in. It's an interesting play on fate across dimensions, and I found it intriguing. We get to see the differences and similarities between the two versions of people. Because of this, there's a multitude of depth to all the characters that plays out throughout the whole book.
All in all AMAZING READ and I cannot wait for more.
This was such an addictive read! From the moment Elodie is ripped from her reality and thrown into a parallel one to solve the murder of another version of herself, I was hooked. The “why choose” romance with the four MMCs had me swooning and on edge at the same time. Watching relationships that were already established in another timeline rebuild from scratch added so much tension and emotional depth. The magical world and academy setting are fully immersive, and the magic system is detailed and intentional, making it easy to get lost in the story. There’s a lot happening, alternate realities, multiple POVs, school politics, powers, murder mystery, but it all ties together into an intricate, gripping narrative.
The slow-burn romance, combined with the stakes of Elodie navigating a world that isn’t hers, made me genuinely care about every character. And that cliffhanger… I need book 2 like yesterday! If you love magical academies, fated mates, alternate realities, and murder mysteries with complex relationships, this series is a must-read.
A massive thank you to the author for reaching out if l'd want to arc read for her. I was absolutely HOOKED with this story. Just finished it up last night a bit late (life has been wild right now and exhausting so apologies it's taken so long (o) this was so good with fated mates, darkish academia magical school setting, why choose and a alternate reality swap?! The twists in this one were wild but so good. Honestly I have nothing but a jumble of I loved this and definitely recommend it! Definitely check this one out it's amazeballs and such a fun time especially if you’re looking for
magical academy setting hidden identity/ undercover heroine multi pov (dual narration audio) why choose romance fated mates rivals to lovers professor x student mirder mystery alternate reality
4.5 ✨ AMAZING!! I was hooked from the first page!! Poor Elodie is ripped from her reality to solve another Elodies murder whilst pretending to be her!! Not only was it thrilling whilst she was searching for the murderer whilst also evading her mates in this reality, it was also heartbreaking for the life and people she’d left behind! The ending was incredible and I’m so excited for the next book!!!

This book was more emotional than I expected, and I both love and hate Eva Chase for it! (But mostly love... I think!)
PLOT (MINOR SPOILERS!):
REVIEW: I really enjoyed this book and read it all in one go. It had me tearing up at the beginning AND near the end. (With perhaps the rare one in the middle!) The characters are diverse and complicated, and while we can't necessarily see how the guys are for ourselves at first, we see it when Elodie reveals things about them that no one could possibly know. They're majorly thrown off when Elodie sees more of them than anyone else has ever seen before, and appears to know secrets they've kept close to their hearts.
The writing is very well done, there's always something going on (or just enough to keep our attention), and there's a little something for everyone. Academy setting, a bit of magic, some mystery, a slow burn romance (nothing much happens yet in this book, but we're working up to it)... it's a mixing pot of perfection.
At the time of reviewing this, only book one has been released. I'm excited to see where things go in the next book! My mind has been pausing while reading the book to go over things that have happened, and now that I'm done, it's continuing to do so! It'll be taking up room in my brain for a while.

Thank you Eva Chase for the physical ARC of your latest book, Bloom & Blood!
Fated mates, alternate realities/timelines, a unique magic system, murder mystery, touch her and 💀 vibes, secrets, betrayal, and impossible choices… This book has everything I want in a why-choose romantasy and then some!
I DEVOURED this book in a day! I am in love with sweet Asher, hot for teacher Cole (my god am I), ready to roll in the mud with Salvatore, and would never say no to literally anything Byron wanted from me.
I love Elodie’s badassness. Her moral compass and heart are doing overtime, so is her sass… the banter is top tier, the spice is spicin, and the mystery and secrets kept my attention fully the entire way.
I’m ready for the next book ASAP! Truly, this is the kind of series you can BINGE 🌺 🩸
AHHH GIVE ME BOOK 2!!!!!! What a fun book!! I was hooked right from the beginning and was totally addicted all the way to the end.
Bloom & Blood had such an interesting premise! Imagine being pulled into an alternate reality of your world?? Having to act like that world's version of you because she was murdered?? Trying to figure out who the murderer is?? Meeting all your mates who in this world consider you a stranger because the bond hasn't formed?? And all while you desperately want to go back home to the mates who have no idea where you are... like wow. I felt SO bad for Elodie. I absolutely adored her character though. She really has it rough omg and I have so many questions still!!
It was so interesting seeing Elodie navigate this alternate world and seeing just how different her relationships were in comparison to her OG world. The relationships with her mates especially !!!! I love them all so much. Like the chemistry??? THE SLOW-BURN!!! Salvatore my beloved, he's so my favourite😩 Cole is so funny though, I absolutely need more of his POV. Asher is a literal sunshine incarnate and Byron is really sweet!! I can't wait to see how all of their relationships develop in book 2. (Also reading those bonus scenes from Match Sparked ?? So so so good.)
AND THAT ENDING!! I totally thought someone else would be the culprit and even though the ending says otherwise... I STILL THINK THEY'RE SUSPICIOUS AND I'LL STAND BY THAT. Oh my gosh give me book 2 right now please. This was my first Eva Chase book and it definitely will not be my last!
ARC REVIEW - Review of advance copy received from Author
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From the first few pages this book had a hold on me, I’ll admit I did get a little teary eyed in the beginning. I love that the FMC is strong and is able to face the tough decisions that she was just thrown in with no plan or idea. Her world was already thrown upside down and it didn’t help she was thrown into another university. She adapted to the challenges. The strength one would need with seeing her “matches” and the parental firgure in the new universe would have anyone breaking. But Elodie our FMC stepped up and pushed through the challenges.
I love the way the book adapted the memories throughout the story. When it happened the main plot was not lost and coming back out of the memory and focusing back to the present was chef’s kiss. I felt like I was able to learn more about the 4 MMC due to the memory trips. Even if it’s from the other universe. There was enough interaction between the FMC and the MMC’s, I didn’t feel that one had more than the other.
The story itself was easy to follow. When I thought I knew where the story was going I was proven wrong and that is what I love to see. Mystery mixed with fantasy and unknown universe’s is a great combination. I cannot wait for book 2. If she’s looking for an arc reader again for book 2 I will most diifferently be applying. Even if she doesn’t do an arc reader I will also be buying the book. So either way I will be getting copies 🥰🥰🥰🥰
This book exceeded all my expectations in every possible way.
This was my first why choose, and I’ll admit I was a bit nervous going in because I didn’t know if I’d enjoy the trope.
Turns out I still don’t fully know it because, as the first book in a series, it really just eases you into the why choose setup, which makes a lot of sense. There’s no instant group dynamic, and while you know the FMC is at the center of everything and she starts to build connections with each of the guys throughout the story, they don’t really interact with each other yet by the end of the book. Everything unfolds very gradually, and the relationships are very slow burn, which makes the whole structure feel intentional and well built, which is exactly why I adored it.
What really stood out to me is how much the book focuses on the mystery plot. It completely took over my brain these past few days, I couldnt stop coming up with theories. I actually picked up on a lot of the clues early on and, at some point, I genuinely felt so smart thinking I was figuring things out, only for the book to completely outplay me again and again. Most of what I thought I had figured out didn’t go the way I expected. I could pick up the clues, but I didn’t know what to make of them. Even now that I’ve finished the story, I still have no idea how everything fits together, and I love that. I can tell there’s a logic behind it all, but I just can’t piece it together yet. There are still so many unanswered questions, and I’m already desperate to see how everything unfolds in the next books.
The pacing was another huge win for me. Nothing felt rushed, and I absolutely loved that. Even with a large cast of characters, I found it easy to keep track of everyone and got invested surprisingly quickly. And can we talk about how fast the story kicks off? The FMC is thrown into the alternate reality in chapter one. I was fully expecting a long build up, but instead the story just starts, and I was immediately hooked.
The magic system is also incredibly unique and clearly layered, with a lot left to discover. The FMC hasn’t even awakened her own innate powers in this alternate reality yet, so it makes sense that we don’t get all the answers, but I’m already so excited to learn more about how it works in the next book.
As for the characters, I was genuinely surprised by how quickly I got attached to all of them. The FMC in particular is so relatable, messy, flawed, and very aware of it (a “lying liar,” as she calls herself). I didn’t always agree with her choices, and I definitely wanted to scream at her a few times. However, I understood her fears, and I just couldn’t stop rooting for her.
When I turned the last page and realized the book had ended, I frowned and had to check again. And again. I would have happily read another 700 pages of this. I need to know how this ends right now.
Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to the author, who not only gifted me the digital ARC of this book, but was also incredibly kind enough to send me a physical copy that traveled all the way from Canada to Italy, and it is absolutely stunning, so yes, go buy it right now. She also sent me the audiobook, which I’m extremely grateful for.
I listened to the ALC alongside reading and absolutely loved the experience. It is a dual narration audiobook, and while I’m not an audiobook expert, I personally really enjoy immersive reading, and this format made it incredibly easy to get fully immersed in the story.
Bloom & Blood is the first book in Eva Chase's The Second Fate of Elodie Devine series. I listened to the Duet Narrated audiobook, narrated by Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter, on Audible. This book has a really interesting premise and I was honestly hooked!
What would you do if you found yourself in another dimension, very similar to your own, next to your own dead body, with an aunt that you have never met asking you to help solve your own murder? Now add fated mates and magical powers, plus a tangled mystery and a complete socio-economic switch in your favor. This is just some of what happens to Elodie, the main female character of this story. The twists and overall plot in this story had me thinking that I knew what was coming, then having to change my assumptions when new information was added. Honestly after finishing this first book, I am beyond curious to see what happens next. Unfortunately, as of writing this review, the next installment of the story is not currently out in print or audio.
The narrators in this book were great, especially the male narrator, Stephen Dexter, who really showed an impressive range with voicing a significant number of the characters. The book is narrated in Duet style, which definitely helped me to stay in the story.
Honestly my only complaint is that when there was a flashback, it was not immediately obvious in audio form, but I'm sure that it is designated in some way in the text version. That being said, it didn't detract from the book, just made a few spots momentarily confusing.
Overall, this book was creative and sucked me in pretty quickly. I was expecting that there would be a cliffhanger, and there is, but thankfully it didn't happen in a scene where the reader is worried about a characters survival. I will be looking forward to the next book in this series, it's already added to my TBR/TBL.
I was given an ALC of this audiobook by the authors team thanks to the DNABC Street Team on Facebook in exchange for my fair and honest review.
If you are looking for a read that perfectly balances high-stakes fantasy, scorching chemistry, and a heroine you can’t help but root for, look no further!
Blood and Bloom: The Second Fate of Elodie Devine is a breathtaking addition to Eva Chase’s catalog that will leave you absolutely reeling.
Chase has outdone herself with this one. The world-building is lush and immersive, the whole being dragged into an alternate timeline screams Hugh Everett’s “Mini-World’s” theory or my favorite reference, Marvels Multiverse. I’m so here for it! I don’t think it’s been done in a RH series so far. So kudos to Chase for adding a new (to me) element to the paranormal- RH - Romance.
Elodie Devine is everything you want in a protagonist—vulnerable yet resilient, thrust into a n alternative world where she must solve a mystery to get home. Her growth throughout this story is nothing short of empowering.
Now let’s talk about that chemistry! We have a "slow-burn-that-actually-sizzles." The dynamics between Elodie and her companions are layered, complex, and deeply addictive.
Just when you think you’ve caught your breath, the plot twists. The "Second Fate" aspect adds a brilliant layer of urgency and mystery that keeps the pages turning well into the night.
I received this novel in exchange for an honest review. However, I waited to listen to the Audible, which I pre ordered before leaving feedback so that I could review all.
The Audible version is better than my imagination when I read the novel first. I love the dual narration; Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter have great voices that match the text.
This isn't just a fantasy romance; it’s a journey about reclaiming power in a world designed to take it away. Whether you’re here for the supernatural intrigue, action, the reverse harem aspects, or swoon-worthy moments, this book delivers on every single front.
I cannot wait for book 2. Prepare for a book hangover—you’ve been warned!
Im kind of shocked but satisfied because I knew I was right about this one. 🫶🏻
I think the storyline was brilliant. It felt refreshing, at least to me. I saw the art, the cover and I was like “SOLD!!” and oh my!! I love it when I’m right in my gut! 😂 This was so good.
Our FMC is smart! Like street smart and I loved that about her. The “why choose” is unexpected, fresh, but also, delicious!!! I think it was absolutely worth the build up and cliffhanger. The magic system, the way the society is structured, the academy setting, the murder mystery and the alternate reality was excellent!!! I genuinely loved it all. So much so that I started it and finished it in under 12 hrs total. If you’re into why choose romance, urban fantasy, fated mates and all the things above mentioned, plus you enjoy your stories told from different POV’s, you’ll definitely find this book worthwhile.
My only advice would be to read carefully as there is a lot of information regarding the magic system that may or may not be complicated to understand at first but, you’ll be fine because it is explained throughout the book and as everything unfolds.
Audiobook: I did immersive reading (ebook and audio) and had the best experience! The narrators, Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter, did a fantastic job at projecting the different POV’s and characters. At one point I thought there were more than 2 narrators!! 😂 I was great! 100% recommend the audio as well.
Bloom & Blood is Available Now on Kindle Unlimited, ebook, Duet Audiobook, Paperback.
Released April 8, 2026
Huge thanks to Eva Chase for the ALC. I absolutely loved your book and can not wait for book 2!
In this magical realism murder mystery Elodie killed one of her fated matches when her magic awoke. She lived with her three remaining men, until she's dragged through space and time to a different universe. One where Elodie lived a life completely opposite from her own. One where Elodie didn't spark with her matches yet and they're all still alive. One where she is dead. Elodie has to discover who her own killer is, without getting too close to the guys she has been loving for the past years.
This was such a good read! The way Elodie struggles with missing the life she got ripped away from, but also seeing what could have been if fate had gone a different way in her reality is portrayed really well. The characters are all very distinct and diverse - except for the rich girl posse, they all sounded the same to me, but maybe that's intentional? The magic system was quite unique, though it did sometimes feel very convenient and an easy fix for problems. There were a few slower points, but the pace picks up in the second half and I found it difficult to put the book down. I mean, we ARE trying to solve a mystery here, people! Everyone and everything is suspicious, but if you're like me you'll still be a bit shocked when you get to the final chapters... This is a series, so not all questions will be answered and you get a bit of a teaser to want to dive into the next book.
I kindly received an ARC from the author through Booksirens. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
I absolutely loved Bloom & Blood. From the very beginning, I was hooked. The way the story builds and slowly lets you get to know each character felt so immersive, I didn’t want to stop listening.
The whole concept of Elodie being ripped out of her reality and thrown into another world to solve a murder? HERS!!! Absolutely INSANE! It immediately pulled me in, and I loved the mystery element. Trying to figure out who everyone really was kept me constantly guessing.
What really got me, though, was the emotional side. Watching Elodie struggle with everything she’s dealing with….the confusion, the pressure, the loneliness. She’s strong and tough, but still has such a soft heart, and you can really feel that push and pull throughout the story.
The magic system was another highlight for me. It felt unique and well thought out, and I loved how it tied into the bonds between the characters. Speaking of that……the bonded relationships were so intriguing. The dynamics added so much depth and tension, and it definitely kept things interesting. Let me just say ch. 29 🫠🫠🫠🫠 OH MY GOSH! My mouth dropped with how hot it was. There’s not a ton of spice in this, it was just the right amount of tension and giving into desires for a moment.
You’re also getting so many elements packed into one story: elite powers, a school setting, a murder mystery, multiple POVs, and a why-choose romance but it never felt overwhelming. It all worked together really well.
Also, I listened to the audiobook, and Rose Dioro and Stephen Dexter absolutely nailed it. The duet narration added so much to the experience and really brought the characters to life.
And that ending?? That cliffhanger honestly took me out. Having to wait for book two feels a little criminal, not going to lie.
This was my first time reading anything by Eva Chase, but it definitely won’t be my last. If you’re thinking this is just another why-choose romance well trust me, it’s not. This is one you’re going to want to read.
💜Fated mates 🖤Why Choose (MFMMM) 💜Murder mystery 🖤Hidden identity 💜Magical academy 🖤Cliffhanger ending 💜Multi POV - Ist person
Thank you so much Eva Chase for the ALC. I truly enjoyed this and I am so excited for book 2!
I was completely hooked from the very first chapter. This story blends romantic tension and murder mystery so seamlessly that there is never a single dull moment. What really stood out to me was the FMC and how she is powerful and capable, but also deeply human. Her impostor syndrome felt incredibly real, especially with the contrast between her skill set and her internal self-doubt. Everyone around her clearly sees her strength and that dynamic was so well done. The multi-pov and flashbacks added so much depth, especially in showing who she is across both realities. The magic system is intriguing. It is layered with elemental aspects and divination that kept things fresh and unpredictable. There is also a religious aspect that we didn't get into much but l am interested to see where that takes us. Do not even get me started on the "answers" at the end because I do NOT trust that for a second. We're for sure just scratching the surface of these conflicts. I have my eye on one of her friends. Also, I do not feel like her aunt is being completely transparent with her intentions. I hate to say it, but I think maybe we have a rogue fated mate from another reality that is looking for revenge? I might be reaching but l am DESPERATE for answers and the next book.
URBAN FANTASY✔️ MURDER MYSTERY✔️ MULTI DIMENSIONS/REALITIES✔️ ACADEMIC SETTING✔️ 🌶and a side of tension/yearning and a sprinkle of spice..which i think will get spicier as the series goes on🤭
Elodie aka. Ellie aka. Elle is the FMC in this book. She is taken from her dimension (think into the spider verse where the setting and the people are the same but their realities are different) by her aunt because someone has offed ☠️ her in that reality and her aunt wants her to figure out who did it, with the promise of sending her back to her dimension after.. She is taken from her 4 bonded mates and plunged into this new reality to try and figure out who offed her. I love her. Shes come from nothing in her previous dimension to having it all in this one and has to make everyone believe she is the real Elodie in this reality. Shes so fiesty and determined and her 4 bonded mates in this reality have no idea they are fated, but she does, and she has to avoid triggering the bond. Its so so good!
The 4 MMCs each bring something different. Cole is the older moody broody professor. I mean.. who does not love a student/teacher trope. The scene in his office..🥵 Asher is his younger brother who is also a student at the school. A proper golden retriever type who was unalived in her previous reality. Mystery as to why. Byron the academic brainy type who really sees her..literally through her disguise he recognises her pull. And Salvatore..the flirty, protective fighter type who has Mafia family..Italian and Irish 😮💨
This book had me fully invested from the first chapter. With how this book ended.. I am so excited to see what happens next and where this story goes!
P.S. THIS BOOK LEFT ME WITH SO MANY QUESTIONS.. I NEED MORE!!

It’s my own fault for giving this author another chance. I read two other series of hers and didn’t like them at all because they were so slow and so boring and overcomplicated. But I thought the premise was pretty cool and I wanted to give it another chance. I also somewhat forgot that I had read other books by this author. But I’ve learned my lesson, and I will not ever be reading another book by her again. She is just not for me.
Yet again with this book, she extremely overcomplicated things. There is no story building. We just get dropped into this magical world that differs a lot from any other magical stories that we’ve read. It has all new terminology. I still don’t fully understand the whole glim and ephemera and bloom and all the other words that she’s giving magic. I mean it’s not difficult like organic chemistry, but I just felt like it was overcomplicated just for the sake of trying to be original and different. Which for me isn’t always necessary and I often feel like you just complicate things and make the reader have to do brain exercises while reading an already boring story and that just makes it not for a nice read.
So the FMC gets pulled from her men (whom she is already mated to by the way, and lives with for years) into a different dimension and timeline. Because the version of her from that timeline gets murdered, so the aunt from that timeline pulls her from her timeline into that timeline. Can you still follow? Anyway, the aunt was able to do such amazing magic to pull something off like yet she’ll never be able to do it again so the chick is stuck. So now the FMC has to live in this new timeline in the life of the dead doppelgänger of her from the timeline. Whom wasn’t yet mated to the mates. Oh and to complicated even more, the aunt wants her to find the murder of the girls doppelgänger or basically I don’t even know if it’s a doppelgänger, but the version of her that’s dead from that timeline.
The aunt goes on to not help her at all, like not even a little bit. Which makes no fucking sense, because she used extreme magic to pull this girl from a different timeline into her timeline to find a killer yet she doesn’t help her at all. Like not a hint, not any help with magic not any resources nothing she just expects this girl who is not Nancy Drew to figure this all out by herself while being in danger of being killed again by the murderer.
Another thing that’s weird as nobody in this timeline thinks it’s weird that she wants nothing to do with them. Like she tells her best friends that she doesn’t wanna hang out with them even though the other version of her that’s now dead always hung out with them and was very social. Her dad in this timeline doesn’t think it’s weird that she doesn’t hang out with him at all. It’s all just really weird. I feel like this author often just does whatever she wants to make her story flow how she wants it to disregarding logic or reality or for anything to really make sense.
And for the story itself, there’s absolutely no progression. Nothing happens with her new mates that we’re supposed to all of a sudden give a shit about even though she’s already mated to other versions of them in a different timeline. Again confusing and also confusing for your feelings that you’re trying to not have but have for them? Like are we supposed to be sad for the mates in the other timeline and stay hopeful that she’ll get back to them? Or should we get attached to the mates in this timeline and hope that she never gets back to her original mates? It’s all just so confusing.
Back to the story being about nothing, this girl basically is just running around like a chicken with her head cut off because again no one is fucking helping her and she is not an actual detective. So she’s just putting on a glamour and just heading to all these random places, and that’s the end of the book. Nothing and I mean nothing happens of any quality until literally the last chapter of this book. Then she all of a sudden turns around and does exactly the thing that she said she wouldn’t do and never wanted to do ever. But again, because this author does whatever the fuck she wants regardless, if it makes any sense whatsoever in the story, it happens.
Look, the author can write. But just being able to write, doesn’t make you a good writer or storyteller. And that’s the case with this author.
And another thing that was just a bit cringe, was all the POC in this book. And no, to all the whiny little snowflakes, there’s obviously nothing wrong at all with POC or POC characters. But it is always very cringe and super random when white authors just throw them into the book for no reason. I just felt extremely random and forced. You don’t have to agree it’s my fucking opinion. Take it or not.
I would not recommend this book. Sorry I hate to say it, but it’s true.

This book is not what I was expecting! The magic system was very interesting to me. The FMC is so strong and capable. The MMCs aspect was well done. I wish there would have been a little more spice but I understand why there wasn’t. Ugh the ending makes me anxious for the next book! Thank you Eva Chase for the opportunity to read this as an ARC!
4.5⭐️ THE PLOT WAS PLOTTINGGGG! Omg, i was honestly so sat for this book, from the plot to the build yet question of the romance.. this book honestly left me reeling because I’m like how is everything going to work out? What’s going to happen? Ugh, this was so plot driven that i couldn’t help but be sat for this! Then the banter between our FMC and the mmcs!!! It was just SO GOOD, and the cliffhanger has me so excited for the next book!!
This was SO interesting. If you read and loved Isla Davon’s Blackened Blade then this book is for you. It’s also a why choose.
It opens with our FMC Elodie mourning the anniversary of her match/mate’s passing. It’s implied that she’s the one who killed him but no other details are given. Elodie is in the middle of eating her mate’s favourite food when she’s suddenly ripped away and awakes face to face with her own mangled dead body. Come to find out her aunt that didn’t exist in her universe/timeline ripped her out of her timeline and placed her in this one.
In this one her life is completely opposite and she hasn’t bonded with her mates or awoken her gift/glim. In this timeline, she’s a spoiled rich girl whereas in her reality she’s dirt poor recruited to go on secret missions for an uncle. Her aunt recruits her to solve her own death. Elodie grapples with missing the life she had and realizing what could have been if one small detail changed back in her timeline. There’s a lot of mystery throughout the story - who killed other Elodie, what happened to Elodie’s mate in her timeline, what is so bad about her glim, why is she killing people for her uncle, can she stay away from other elodie’s mates and get back to her own timeline.
There isn’t a lot of answers revealed - a few are answered right at the very end. The middle did drag for me but it was building the mystery up and getting to know both Elodies. I’m excited to see where the story goes from here and what happened after that killer ending. I also really wanna know what happens to Elodie’s original timeline. There is a lot of confusing yearning but no big spicy moments with her mates. I was lucky enough to receive an arc from the author!
This book was so incredibly intriguing! It felt odd starting a book where the heroine already has her mates, even though I knew from the blurb that she'd be ripped away from them. But it was a wonderful choice, it matters a LOT to this book/series that she'd previously found her mates.
There was SO much tension and mystery in this book, it was insane. My theory for who's behind the murder of the other Elodie hasn't been disproved yet, so I'm very interested to see if the mastermind ends up being who I think it is.
But I'm burning to read the next book more because of her matches than even that! I thought Asher was going to be my favorite, but from book 1, I'd say it's Cole. (That scene in this book…whew. IYKYK!!) They've all REALLY grown on me through this book, though, and I can't wait for Elodie to let herself re-fall in love with these guys!
The magic system in this world is also very cool! I especially adore the 'sparking' of matches, the basic magic versus individual magic talent through 'glims', and that it's not a rare thing here to have more than one mate. Though of course, Elodie is still a special case with four guys to herself!
I am REALLY looking forward to book 2! I definitely recommend giving this series a go!
Bloom and Blood begins with Elodie on the anniversary of her mate’s death. She is with her other three mates holding a memorial dinner when she is suddenly pulled into an alternate reality. A reality where she has been murdered and her mates aren’t her mates yet. She is tasked with finding the murderer and then she can return to her own timeline.
This version of Elodie is wealthy and privileged, the opposite of her real life where she’s ostracized for being poor and not from a high society family. As she investigates, the mystery keeps shifting and it really keeps you on your toes.
I enjoyed this world so much. Physical touch sparks a match to a mate so everyone wears gloves. When a match is made, it brings forth your innate magic, which can be bloom (creation) or blight (destruction). While her mates don’t recognize her, their connection still pulls them together. This book has dual POV so you can see how the men realize this Elodie isn’t who she seems to be. There is a professor, mafia man, a rival, and a sweet MMC. They all have distinct personalities, too.
Overall, I really loved this story and cannot wait for book 2. I am left with sooo many questions. This book is perfect if you love magical academies, twisty plot lines, murder mystery, and why choose romance!
Okay let me breathe. Holy shit. I was so fortunate to get the ARC for this and I'm so glad I did. This story will be one I never forget. I am so happy/upset that I have to wait for the next book!!
The way this starts, grips you so hard, that you have no other choice but to continue. Elodie being pulled in front of her matches to a different reality, only to find that in the new one, she has died, and now is being told to catch her own murderer???? This story is just so unique and refreshing. If i could re-read it again for the very first time, I know I would feel this exact feeling.
The world building is out of this world.. and in another. The magical elements mixed with the murder mystery, with the added fated mates???? I was not bored for even a SECOND. The way this story starts, to how it finishes??? Perfect (THE CLIFFHANGER?!?!?). The characters??? Loved every single one! I am so excited to see where the story goes. I'm so hooked its not even funny. I will be FOAMING at the mouth until the next book drops.
I've read Eva's gang of ghouls series before and I just know this series is only going to get crazier and better!
