In his towering Last Gunfighter series, USA Today bestseller William Johnstone chronicles a frontier legend--a drifter, a fighter and a man you only want on your side.  .  .

Before It Was The City Of Angels,

It Was A Perfect Place To Die With The Devil

When Frank Morgan gets to a town called Los Angeles, he can see the forces gathering around him. For the Spanish landowners, wealth is measured in cattle on the open range. For hardnosed oilmen, a fortune is in the ground--in the form of shining black crude oil...

When blood is spilled on the sun-seared land, Morgan allies himself with a beautiful, widowed rancher--even as he cuts a deal with an ambitious wildcatter. Morgan is not trying out treachery. He's just trying to get to the truth about a cycle of violence that's about to explode. But when he discovers that a third party has entered the fray, Morgan knows the rules have changed and justice will only be forged with bullets.

This is one the I felt like I've heard before. Oh well. Standard fare and just droned on at times. Repeat story.

These books are always entertaining but are also getting somewhat repetitious.

24-78. Took me awhile to get through this one. The last third of the novel was exciting. I borrowed this e-book from the Sacramento Public Library through the Libby app.

Slaughter, Book 19

This story took a lot of twists and turns. I enjoyed it but among the 80 or so books of these authors, I liked slot better than this one. Still pretty good though.

~1897 LA US. Twists before villains found. Action, gunsmoke, groan,s blood. Kidnap, rescue, death. Frank Morgan is asked by pretty widow to save her ranch from oil drillers. But ranchers and riggers both have property stolen, damaged, crew shot. Frank unravels plot by third party.

This is my least favorite in the series so far. It is one of the later ones and I suspect that the second writer did more of the work. There are too many trite cliches and predictable storylines. If this had been my first, it might have been my last.

Starting on book 19 of a series is probably not the best idea. However, it does stand alone and it was okay. All in all, it is a western.
