WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ENDING MATT SHAW YOU EVIL MAN???
I am so mad, i don't know whether to up my rating to 5 stars or just fuck it all to hell and not rate it at all. GIVE IT A BIG FAT ZERO.

Okay, after a 3 hour session of breathing exercises I'm ready to start this again.
The title should already give you an idea of what type of book this is.

A classy name of a classy story with classy characters for a classy girl like me.
The reviews for this book as well as the blurb had all sorts of warning signs. Words like extreme, horror, graphic, violence and so on have been used repeatedly. So I clicked.
Did it have all the horrible shit everyone was raving on about? Yes and more. (I will point out that it wasn't the darkest book I've ever read, definitely not as horrible as I thought it would be)
naturally, my entire experience was spent with the goofiest smile on my face.
FROM NOW ON, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. I recommend going in blind.
This novella is split into not just two, but three timelines, my personal pet peeve. But somehow, this time I didn't at all mind it. In fact, I found myself anticipating every single one.
Beginning
This timeline follows the heroine's traumatic upbringing where she is sexually abused by her father from childhood until teenagehood.
Past
Here we are told of her life as a prostitute. From her first client to first experiences and the way she dealt with them sexually and......well permanently🔪
The way this quote was delivered in the book was so damn good by the way. I went into it blind, so when I read this page I got goosebumps.
Present
Currently, she has a new client, Jon. A shy young man who asks too many personal questions and avoids sex with her at all costs.....the question is why?
Our heroine has been called by every name possible except her own, for instance; little girl, young lady, whore, slut, hooker, prostitute...etc
I found that quite interesting since we actually don't know anyone's name in this story except Jon's. So for the sake of making it easier on myself, I'll just refer to her as 'h'.
h is a prostitute who developed an unusual fetish after years in the industry, murdering cheaters. I'm guessing she has such a strong aversion to cheaters because her father was unfaithful to her mom....with her, which caused her mother to suicide. It's confusing how she seems more traumatised by the cheating than the fact that she was raped for her entire childhood, but you know what? You do you honey, I don't care as long as I'm entertained, and entertained I was.

Well...as much as suffocating someone with your vagina while also crushing his balls can be called an accident. Did I mention they were 69ing too?

I will probably slap myself for saying this, but I kinda felt bad for the guys. Was I giddy with excitement every time she described dismembering their bodies, trying to flush them down the toilet or burying them in her garden? Hell yea, I was giggling like a schoolgirl the entire time.
But, they just didn't deserve it man. I know I know. Cheaters deserve to burn in hell, and I say that as a girl who had the privilege of being cheated on🥰
h was a little too insane about it. She had it in her head that by killing them, she is freeing the wives & girlfriends from a piece of shit. I mean true, but also....could've called them or smth, I mean Jesus Christ.
I would like to also point out, h was unintentionally hilarious. She just killed a man for the first time, puked all over him, then thinks how some people would pay to see her vomit💀 THAT IS NOT what you should be concerned about right now miss girl.
The power she holds, my lord.
There was a plot twist I really did not see coming and I am still mad about that abrupt ass ending:)
But this is a novella after all *sigh* I guess I'll let it slide.
I'll end this here because the too much gene will kick in and I'll just end up spoiling the entire book. I will say one thing, this was the most fun I've had in a while😈

It's a service offered to eliminate the hurt they feel when they find out about the secret life their partner is leading...
It's a service whereby I end the lives of the miserable fucks who come to see me.

Dark And Shockingly Twisted
I thought I had this story figured out early on, but I was sooo wrong! Matt Shaw has left my head spinning. Nothing prepared me for the ending of this book. If you love dark, depraved stories, then this is a great one.
In so few pages, the author manages to craft a detailed story with fully-developed characters. I am amazed at how gripping this short story was. I was completely absorbed in this seedy tale.
No, this isn't a life-changing book that warrants multiple re-reads. However, it will rock your world, albeit for a short period of time, and will mess with your head. If you like a mindf#@k, this book will certainly fit the bill. It was dark, deeply disturbing and totally awesome!

The opening pages set the tone nicely for this highly unsettling story! In fact, all of the Monster chapters were shudder-worthy.
Some of the services the narrator was paid to perform was...interesting? Then there were those scenes between her and the old man with the yellow teeth and wrinkled skin...Just so much eeew in those scenes...
The way the past and the present scenes mixed into the text should've annoyed me, but it worked well for this novel because it's a shorter story with less characters to follow.
►Was this an erotic story? Not for me. At all. But I liked the narrator. I had more questions at the end because of that twist, but this was an okay story.
► Not sure why I was expecting more gore, or maybe I was desensitized by the time I got to the epilogue. Either way, I didn't find this book to be as extreme as was suggested.
► First time reading this author's work and it won't be the last!

I actually really liked this story but due to the author’s behavior as of late, I just can’t in good conscience provide him with a good review.

This was an incredibly intense novella that kept its horror grounded in reality. A deep, dark character study of a very troubled soul, that just kept descending further into the abyss. I will admit that I had to very quickly skim over several sections, due to instances of molestation and rape of a minor. Those scenes were graphic, but thank God that restraint was shown by Shaw. They were very important to the story, so I understood their placement, but was just a bit too much for me. The ending was something of a surprise, and was even more disturbing than what I originally envisioned. The last time a book made me this uncomfortable was Kristopher Triana’s ‘Gone to See the River Man.’ I am a huge fan of Triana and cannot emphasize how talented an author he is, so this should be taken as a massive compliment. Shaw shows his range here, going from meaningful conversations between the two main characters, diving deeply into the mindset of a killer who tries to reason with her trauma, to eloquently written sexual encounters (Looking at the writing quality and link to the main character’s background, not focusing solely on the actual fetishes.). While it will make even the most seasoned extreme horror readers and writers uneasy, this was a very tall order that Matt Shaw not only did justice, but excelled with.

One thing everyone should know that most Matt Shaw's books are (to me) deliver a real life issues. That we hear or witness in news. And that's what our Girl in Whore went through.
Being traumatised by her past; having a father aka-> "The Monster" who constantly abused, her since at the age of 7-8. and a mother who don't listen to her when the little girl tries to tell her what's happening when she's not around. unfortunately our girl grows up and becomes a call girl
The main story behind WHORE clear as the sun. A woman being a "Call Girl" receives visits from horny men. she prefers doing her job at her own home. The patrons desires,wishes come true,and they'll have the best time of their lives. But as for the cheaters...hmm will let's just say
..
Her latest client, the relationship between them was so interesting,modest. For the first time she ever sees a man like him that he's more interesting in talking rather than getting into her pants. and she does feels connected with him.
Now we do know she's a whore, but once you read this book. you'll see not only she's trying to pull herself away from this profession that she can have her revenge with men species but also this professions of hers; is getting her deeper into a darkness that soon she might not realize what she had done...!!
As always, the Plot is crazy good. some parts you'll not see that coming.
so full of twists, death parts (Which MOST i was happy about :D),and romance (yes you read it right! ROMANCE!). Ha! don't let the romance part fool ya it's just a flash of a second!

THIS IS NOT HORROR, it's dark erotica!!! If u wanna know WHY I say that, continue reading after my review.
This was my 1st book by Matt Shaw and wow…. WHORE is one hell of a good mind-fuck! I was convinced that I knew what was happening from the very start of the book which is why I was shocked by the huge curveball at the very end. It was a creative, clever, unexpected twist! I really liked the story line and the way Shaw told it, enjoying the back and forth style as the main character remembered events from her past. Even better were the memories she recalled; some were sad, some extremely strange, all of them entertaining! I was really impressed by this brief story! I appreciated that Shaw did not add any unnecessary filler or fluff just to add extra page numbers. WHORE contains just enough content to develop a thorough, complete story and what a shocking, entertaining story it is! I’ll definitely be reading more by Shaw and encouraging my fellow dark erotica lovers to do the same!

I and at least 10 readers I personally know of almost chose not to read WHORE based solely on the fact that the first sentence of this book's synopsis states, "WARNING: THIS IS AN EXTREME HORROR NOVEL". The only reason I and the 10 people I mentioned DID read WHORE was because 1 member in our Goodreads group had already read it and typed a message to the rest of us, informing us that WHORE is not true horror.
If you look up the definition of horror in the dictionary or on Wikipedia, what happens in this book technically does fit the definition. However, as an avid reader who primarily reads DARK EROTICA, actively involved in social groups on Goodreads such as, “The Dark Erotica” group where I chat throughout the day with other readers and lovers of dark erotica, I am 100% certain that WHORE fits into the dark erotica genre much better than it does horror. If the author, publisher or whoever is adamant that the word, "horror" must be part of the genre description, it most certainly should not be described as, "extreme" horror. In addition, if the author or whoever does not want to have use the term, "erotica" that's fine too; to err on the safe side, I recommend describing WHORE as, "dark".
From just my experience alone, it is clear that the way the synopsis is written now is a detriment to luring in readers. Maintaining the term, "horror" will attract horror readers who most likely will be upset when they discover that this is not a true horror, resulting in them posting bad reviews. In addition, the term horror will continue to cause dark romance and dark erotica lovers to pass over this book, resulting in this book not getting positive reviews from this population of readers.
Books classified as falling into the horror genre (at least in America) are stories that leave some readers wanting or needing to sleep with their lights on! IMO, horror novels are books like The Exorcist (a young girl starts exhibiting extremely frightening, bizarre behaviors because her soul has been taken over by a demonic entity) or Poltergeist (a story about what happens to a family when they move into a house built above burial grounds). Horror does not have to be paranormal either. An example of another famous American horror story is The Shining which is a story about a man who goes insane, mentally terrorizing then trying to kill his own family. I don't perceive WHORE as being similar to ANY of the horror books nor any other famous horror novels. However, I have read many fantastic dark erotica books that bear a very strong resemblance to WHORE.
To most, dark erotica is defined as a story containing graphic sex with a theme or at least 1 character of sinister intent. Sounds like WHORE to me!

Whore is my fifth read in the black cover series and they're all wicked. Extreme horror, explicit sex and violence that in no way overshadows the extremely clever plot’s full of twists and surprises you just never see coming.
Now Whore is a story that explores, in a way three timelines, I've not read a story that attempts this before and Matt Shaw writes it perfectly, avoiding any potential confusion.
The first time line follows our working girl, business woman she prefers, whore she doesn't mind but not slut, no definitely not that, in the present as a new client arrives at her secluded property.
Then entwined in the present tale is the story of her various sexual encounters as an escort and her descent into a woman that fixates on men cheating on their partners and retribution for their actions.
Part of the story is also set in her childhood, detailing the effects of an abusive father and harrowing scenes of sexual abuse. The mother of course turns a blind eye and the little girl is eventually left to the devices of the monster. It’s always unsettling to read about any form of abuse and this is disturbing and unfortunately necessary to explore the state of mind of someone who surprisingly has not been traced by the authorities as a contact of numerous missing husbands and partners.
I have to mention our friendly business woman’s first murder, this one will stay in the dark recesses of my mind for a long time. Top notch entertainment once again from Matt Shaw and I’ve got SickER Bastards and Psychopath for Hire still to get to with a new release for the end of December called My Family and that’s the extreme horror series for you, recommend them all.

Now Whore is a story that explores, in a way three timelines, I've not read a story that attempts this before and Matt Shaw writes it perfectly, avoiding any potential confusion.
The first time line follows our working girl, business woman she prefers, whore she doesn't mind but not slut, no definitely not that, in the present as a new client arrives at her secluded property.
Then entwined in the present tale is the story of her various sexual encounters as an escort and her descent into a woman that fixates on men cheating on their partners and retribution for their actions.
Part of the story is also set in her childhood, detailing the effects of an abusive father and harrowing scenes of sexual abuse. The mother of course turns a blind eye and the little girl is eventually left to the devices of the monster. It’s always unsettling to read about any form of abuse and this is disturbing and unfortunately necessary to explore the state of mind of someone who surprisingly has not been traced by the authorities as a contact of numerous missing husbands and partners.
I have to mention our friendly business woman’s first murder, this one will stay in the dark recesses of my mind for a long time. I am going to do a short review and then offer some advice/help for anyone considering reading it.
I definitely enjoyed this book. It wasn't very long, I read it in a couple of hours between classes. It almost felt like I was reading this woman's diary, or a memoir. We got to see this "greatest hits reel" from her job and it was underscored by her time spent with her present client, Jon, and her traumatic childhood. She was a serial killer but she almost had this vigilante vibe, like she felt morally justified with the things she was doing. I definitely got a bit attached to Jon, he was sweet and timid and curious but I was riddled with this steady fear for him.
This book didn't have as much gore as I thought it would, don't get me wrong, there were definitely a few parts that made me cringe a bit but the pages weren't littered with bloody, gruesome details. There was sex but it wasn't like reading an erotic novel, I didn't feel like it was meant to be sexy and exciting.
So, advice/help stuff. The first thing I would say is don't read this book if you don't like non-con. There are repeated instances of non-consensual sex which occur in the flashbacks The next thing I would say is be careful with the time jumps in the book. There are 3 timelines interwoven in the book. You get her present, her childhood, and random past clients. There's not a lot of indication of the change between present and past clients, they're kind of jumbled together but if you're reading closely you'll see it. The childhood chapters are clearly marked. The last thing I would say is use your common sense, she's a prostitute and a serial killer, if either of these things are unappealing to you then steer clear of this book. If you're looking for something short, with an intricate plot, that will cause you to think about what's happening and you're not afraid of any of the above stuff I would say try it, it's worth it in my opinion.
Also, I read the "Plea from the author" and I would love to be brutally murdered in one of his stories. So, you know, if my review's really good I could get murdered in a book, or if it's really awful great payback would be to fictionally kill me...just saying.

I’m just going to admit it that I’ve actually started to love Matt Shaw’s stories. These are dark while having an element of sex to them. Honestly I mostly read about sex, but I typically steer clear of the non-cons & dub-con because there is an element of trying to get you turned on by something that shouldn’t (solely a feeling for me…not judging anyone here). Always leaves me feeling a bit dirty, & slightly used. Matt’s books are different in the sense that you know the sex is going to be depraved, you’re not going to enjoy it, hopefully you’re not turned on by it. The stories are about people who use sex for purposes other than enjoyment, they are stories of sex as a weapon of power. I like the honesty of it. I also like the element that most of the victimized characters in his book are allowed in some small way to reclaim their power and use sex to their advantage. There is also always an unexpected surprise. Matt’s a master of making you feel sad/sorry for people who because of circumstances beyond their control do things no one should do. It speaks to the complexity of humans, the grey area of being good or bad vs. doing a justifiably bad thing.
I’m definitely going to read all his works…while I don’t have Facebook here’s to hoping I can review enough for him to finally kill off a Pixie or two.

Ugh, can this story be any slower and drag out any more? All I kept thinking was when's the excitement going to hit and am I almost done? I never felt more inclined to DNF a book more than this one but because I always finish my books I continued on.

The intricacy of the storyline isn't uncovered until the end. At this point, I was like ok I'll give the author that. I didn't see that little gem coming. But to force myself to muddle through a book for a surprise ending I felt like

If you’re looking for a quick, dark, erotic read with a hell of a twist, WHORE by Matt Shaw is for you. This book gets 2.5 whorish stars.

I'm just not quiet sure about Matt Shaw. He tends to focus on little unimportant details (mainly sex acts) writing simply without going into the real science behind a murderer. I feel like I'm reading a story by an immature horny creep. I'm not buying into it, it lacked realism and went left of centre (wrong direction) with a 'shock' ending making it an even more pathetic story. How can a murdering escort get away with murdering her clients who contact her and book appointments and not be investigated when it's not at all hidden that she is the last person they had contact with before they went missing. No thrills here for me, I said I wouldn't read any more Matt Shaw after 'PORN' however this will definitely be the last Matt Shaw novel I read.

WARNING: THIS IS AN EXTREME HORROR NOVEL. There is gore. There is bad language. There are scenes of a sexual nature. But hidden underneath it all is also a chilling story.
40% - The above warning sold the story to me, but so far its yet to deliver. Fingers crossed the pace is about to pick up!
55% - OMG the movie 'Saw' comes to mind. Scratch my above comment.
Done - and saying what the f*%k? Not a wow WTF, but a confused WTF.
Yes this story had dark elements, yes it was well penned but holy hell was it all over the show.
The story was more confusing than horrific to me. The constant switching from past to present, not the flashbacks to 'BEFORE' they were clear, but the mid-chapter jumps in dialogue.
I still don't know how I feel about the story, or what I just read, so three 'it was okay' stars.
FOOTNOTE - The story is listed as 110 pages, I read it in under 2 hours and am no speed reader. Just saying :)

I've read a lot of Matt Shaw books in my time. In recent months, we've become friends over our love of the written word and, in respect of this, Matt will occasionally send me an ARC of an upcoming novel. Honoured as I am, Whore was the latest book to receive this specialist treatment. To me, Shaw is what British horror needs, a morbid jolt in the arm; realistic horror that isn't afraid to push boundaries. True, on his latest effort, he steps back from the obvious horror and focuses on something a little more...enticing...but it's still as extreme and sick as his previous work.
A young girl, humiliated and traumatised by her past, grows up and becomes a call girl. Receiving cash for various uses of her body, she is happy to satisfy any man's needs. However, on occasion, she has a code of honour to live by, one that means some men may not escape with their lives...
The premise for Whore is dead simple: A woman lives at home and receives visits from her punters. This is a modern call girl, one who uses the internet as a calling card, personal assassination black book, and a safety net. In Whore, aside from flashbacks, the call girl never leaves her home, everything takes place within. Honest punters will have the erotic time of their lives, virgins will get their rocks off, and cheating punters...well, you'll see. This is one woman you don't want to mess with, one who's moral code is born out of deep neglect and severe abuse. In her eyes, she's a vigilante with the biggest and most lethal weapon at her disposal: her body. Her missions bring her into contact with nice guys, bad guys - a beating she takes from one punter is particularly graphic - and a guy who, for some reason, bemuses and puzzles her. It's this final guy that the heft of the story is based around.
Sure, she's a whore, right? No redemption, no going back. Well, no, not exactly. Don't get me wrong, this isn't Pretty Woman for the horror generation, but at times, you can imagine our heroine settling down, pulling herself away from the profession that isn't only allowing her revenge on men as an entire species, but is also bringing her deeper and deeper into a darkness that threatens to consume her very being. Her relationship with her latest punter is charismatic, interesting, humble and, most of all, gentle. For the first time, you feel she is connecting with someone on a level that doesn't involve sex. Shaw's writing is superb, making you realise that - beyond the sex and the lust - is a woman who just wants to be loved. Pretty Woman this ain't...but sublime, urban horror it is.
5*- Yes, yes, yes. As always, there's a dark underlying message in the book and some plot twists that you will not see coming. It also contains some particularly inventive death scenes that will make you squirm a little. However, the story is fantastic, allowing you to immerse yourself in a seedy world that, in all honesty, Matt Shaw knows a little too much about. Twisted, energetic, disturbing and, yes, I said it, romantic in places, this is a story that sometimes veers from the usual extreme path, but crashes back on it when the time is right. Matt Shaw is generating some great character studies in his recent work, long may it continue. Excellent stuff.

This one started kinda slow. You get the story of a prostitute, what she does, why she does what she does and so on. One particular client comes to her, one that is kinda sketchy, but for some reason she kinda likes him. Other stories of past clients are flash backed to as time moves on with this new client.

There's nothing better than not being able to guess how a story is going to end. The grim stage is set with a prostitute, who has her own share of demons. She's a take charge kinda girl, just be careful you don't lose an arm or leg for services rendered. Matt Shaw has an uncanny ability to lead you on path you'll think is straight and narrow. By the time the journey is complete, you feel as though been slammed with a two by four! Nope didn't see that one coming! Definitely a dark read, just wished it was darker!

After reading Whore, I think I must be a little bit dead inside. I like big books, write a fabulous story and I’ll read two thousand pages of it. But once in a while I like to grab a shorty…one hundred pages or so; a little something to reset my barometer, some literary sorbet, if you will.
Matt Shaw’s books have worked in the past. He is shocking, he pushes the limits and makes me say to myself, “They let people publish this?!” Don’t get me wrong, I love pushing my limits, I want an author to shock and, yes, sometimes disgust me. Reading is all about testing limits and new experiences, it’s safe, it’s fiction.
I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I may be broken, but Whore failed. I was not shocked, disgusted or otherwise disturbed. Sure, Shaw touches on some sensitive subjects and I was even fooled by the twist at the end, but I didn’t get what I came for. Is it me? Have I become so numb that this doesn’t affect me anymore? Or did Whore just not go far enough? Who knows?!

Sure, Shaw touches on some sensitive subjects and I was even fooled by the twist at the end, but I didn’t get what I came for. Is it me? Have I become so numb that this doesn’t affect me anymore? Or did Whore just not go far enough? Who knows?!

In the sequel to “fucked to death” we follow the escort that the man in the previous book had hired. With her genuine hatred for cheating men, due to her own childhood trauma she finds ways to “make things right for the poor women having their husbands and boyfriends cheat on them. When one day she gets a new client who doesn’t have much of an interest on getting with her, he wants to ask her questions and just talk to her, it allows her to relive her childhood memories and for the most part they aren’t good.
This was a good read with a good backstory to an interesting character, hearing her backstory being talked about in a way that didn’t feel was glorifying it was refreshing. This book does have a lot of child sexual assault and to have it written in a way that was not glorifying it was good.

This story is about a young girl that gets SA by the “monster” (her mom’s boyfriend). One day her mom finds out and kicks the young girl out of the house. Well down the line the girl finds out her mother had committed suicide, so she has to live with the monster. The book goes back and forth between her growing up and when she was younger. When she gets older she turns into a prostitute and gives revenge to all the men that come to her and are cheating on their spouses. The ending was a complete shocker, didn’t expect that one!!

This author sure knows how to push my buttons in the worst way. Ughhhhhh. But his books are oddly addicting I have to admit. Each and every time I read a Matt Shaw, I say that this would be the last but it never happens. I keep going back to him like a moth to flame.

I didn’t love this book but its worthy of more than 3 stars, just not 4….
For starters, THIS IS NOT EXTREME HORROR..at least not in my opinion. While this book does have its squeamish moments, there weren’t a lot and they were a little skimmed over. I expected cringe worthy, one eye open, shortness of breath horror- I mean the warning on this blurb was fucking fantastic. I would LOVE a book that actually lived up this warning.
This is a short read about a ‘higher class’ escort/prostitute/whore that kills her clients that admit to having a wife/girlfriend. The story goes back and forth from her childhood, which is filled w sexual abuse and then the years leading to present. She reflects on past clients and what has gotten her to where she is. In the end, she opens up to a specific ‘shy’ client and probably half of the book is about their time together with a ‘twist’ at the end that maybe will leave some people shocked but I was just….blah.
Overall, not a bad read- it was quick, easy and I stayed intrigued for the most part. I will definitely read some of the other work by this author.
