Echoes of The Lunthra

Rate this book
The Law of Haelen is absolute. Bind your soul by the twenty-first solstice or be claimed by the Veythar, shadow-wrought reapers who feast on the essence of the unbound.

Kaelia Vaser has watched too many people choose safe, loveless bonds just to survive. The High Court calls it protection. She calls it surrender. When her own solstice arrives, Kaelia swears she will not trade her soul for a signature on a ledger.

But as the day draws closer, her soul awakens, and it does not reach for any mortal suitor. It screams for the one being she was raised to fear.

Talon Veyr is Master of the Veythar, a lethal bridge between realms and the very reaper meant to claim Kaelia if she fails. He is shadow, power, and ruin made flesh, and the one being her soul recognizes as its equal.

Their connection is not merely forbidden. It is impossible.

Because if a child of Haelen binds themselves to a reaper, the truth buried beneath centuries of doctrine will surface. The High Court’s authority will fracture. The barrier between realms will weaken.

And the Veythar will no longer remain in the dark.

Now Kaelia must decide whether to secure a loveless bond and preserve the lie, or step into Umbral at Talon’s side and risk igniting a reckoning that could tear both worlds apart.

A sweeping tale of forbidden desire and ancient magic, perfect for fans of A Court of Thorns and Roses and Fourth Wing.

I finished this ARC read in under 24 hours! The world building is insane, I was hooked from the first chapter. The spicy relationship was a definite highlight! While the story was fast-paced and captivating, I wished for more character development before the most important part of the story, especially with Talon. Getting to know the characters better would have deepened the emotional impact. But I hope it’s intentional and the next books are going to hold more stories and plot twists. Other than that, the world is incredibly interesting, and unique and I seriously can't wait for book two!

ARC Review:

4/5 stars

I truly appreciate being given the chance to ARC read and review this book.

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The world Tala created was so magical. I really enjoyed learning about the magic system in this book. I found it very interesting and unique, like nothing I have ever read about before which kept me wanting to read and learn more.

I loved the character development in this book for our main character Kaelia. I really enjoy books from a main character’s point of view.

From start to finish the pacing was well done and had me fully engaged. The banter between Kaelia & Talon has me giggling and kicking my feet. Their bond was so beautiful to follow and watch grow. I’m excited to see how this story will continue to grow in the next book.

I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book has so much potential.
The first couple of chapters had me reading so fast! It was thrilling and exciting and totally captivating.
I was able to overlook the gaps or continuity issues. But as it continued, I was getting a little lost.

The relationships all seem surface level. I don’t know anything about any of these characters, except for names and kind of jobs. Bater’s dialogue was chef’s kiss. But Neya was giving weird “I want your man” vibes until she suddenly wasn’t???

Also, the prose are really nice. There are some beautiful descriptions, but I honestly have no idea what I’m supposed to envision when reading this book. One second I thought they lived inside / under the mountains, and then she said she was looking at the night sky. There’s a creature that sounds massive and then sounds absolutely tiny… it just seems like all the details are supposed to be convenient, and not cemented into some form of reality.

The bond, aside from “completing” them feels lacking… it makes them… horny??? If my partner can’t sense that I’m up to my BS again, or in actual danger, then I don’t want to be bonded 😂 also, the use of the word “engorged” made me cackle.

Finally the end had me screaming. They could’ve sidestepped a whole journey with 1 singular passage??? How long is a season??? Definitely not 5 weeks. And “I will protect you” yeah? Like the way you protected your “kin”? Sit down, shadow daddy. You’ve been nothing but hot.

I really admire indie authors and how much work they do to publish their books. That being said, this book was unfortunately not for me.

Taste in writing is subjective (most of the time) but I felt like it was very choppy. The chapters are all pretty much one scene long which made everything feel very episodic in a strange way, with a lack of any buildup to anything. Very few descriptions of what was actually happening or how our protagonist was feeling, or even just descriptions of the world. There was no real imagery or anything to grasp onto to feel like I could truly envision this world. Which leads me into my next issue: The lack of worldbuilding. There’s a glossary at the beginning of this book but when these places, names, and concepts are brought up, there’s very little, if any, actual in-text explanation or expansion on these things so I kept getting confused and had to flip back and forth between the glossary and the book, which then kept pulling me out of the story. The magic system and the purpose of these bonds and why certain bonds are forbidden are very vague and sometimes it felt like I had to fill in the blanks myself.

Characters are introduced with no real information on who they are or how they serve the story. A lord was introduced and all I could think was “what is he lord of?” because we got no context except his title. It felt like the world was very…small, like all of this is happening inside one single town because of how contained all of the events were. Places are mentioned but I had no idea if these were separate cities, if these people were allies or foes, where they even are, or what they look like. I eventually got the hang of it, but again, that was only because I had to keep going back to the glossary because the book itself didn’t talk about it. Obviously because this is self-published I’m not expecting a super detailed illustration of a map, but I would at least expect the writing to explain it.

Our protagonist and the main love interest are okay. I’m not a huge fan of two people being drawn together just because fate says so, and there’s a lot of that here with no time for the couple to actually get to know each other and learn to care about each other on their own. I don’t really understand why they have feelings for each other at all except that they have a bond. The relationship itself is very…insta-love, and while that doesn’t work for me personally, it does for some people so far be it from me to knock anyone’s preferences. However, there wasn’t really any depth to the characters. I get the MMC is supposed to be a mystery, so I can understand that to a point, but this book is written in first person and I have very little insight into Kaelia as a character. During moments that are supposed to be intense, she doesn’t really talk about how she feels about any of it, and because the chapters only last a single scene, by the time we move on to the next chapter, she never reflects on what’s happened or has any inner monologue to make me feel attached to her. We’re told she’s stubborn but little else. Her characterization felt very inconsistent—in the beginning, she doesn’t want to be bound because she sees it as surrender, but then she does because she wants to survive, and then she tries to resist Talon but the moment they kiss, she has no problem abandoning everything to be with him and not only does she not have any problem adjusting to her choices despite being very serious ones, she also has a complete shift in mindset with no trouble at all and has no issue letting go of everything she’s ever believed without any internal conflict.

The story itself just unfolds in a very strange way where things happen so easily and so quickly, seemingly just to move things along—which, yeah, a plot should move forward, but nothing ever feels like it has any impact because the tone or weight of the writing never actually changes or indicates that something important is happening, whether that’s important to the plot or important to Kaelia’s character development. Specifically the character of Hera felt so…out of place for reasons I can’t really talk about without spoilers. More than anything, because the writing is kind of just going down a list of events that happen without delving into the protagonist’s thoughts or feelings, I finished this book more confused than when I was just a few chapters in.

This ARC read was 3/5 ⭐️ for me!! The world building was amazing and had a unique aspect to it that I enjoyed imagining while reading! The story includes a captivating romance arc that at times did seem rushed to me but had multiple scenes that demonstrated a unique and true love. I did wish we learned more about the FMC and MMC individually before they become one with each other but again the plot of the story was well written and kept me interested! The story includes a MMC that yearns and I love those types of romances. It ends with many questions that lead up into the next book which I am looking forward to reading!

arc read!!

This book has so much potential, the magic system and world are so unique and beautiful. I absolutely love Talon and Kaelia and the forbidden bond trope, and I do love an FMC who does what she wants no matter what. But I do feel as though it fell short in some areas unfortunately

I also think the idea of the veythar is so so cool, I loved the authors take on a shadow wielder and how they use their powers

The first quarter of the book I found myself not being able to put it down and I loved the suspense of what kaelia would do and watching her realise there was a reason talon was following her. I also loved the idea of the safe bond between her and Hera but I do wish it had gone on slightly longer so we could have mourned the fake bond or even just felt worse for Hera?

Im also a lover of a slow burn and I do feel like the initial bond between talon and kaelia was slightly rushed. It would have been nice to see her struggle with the idea of a forbidden bond that has been forbidden for as long as she can remember suddenly be happening to her, or even come to terms with the fact talon was her true mate (someone she was brought up to fear)

It was also slightly confusing that Talon wasn’t more annoyed that she let out Xylos (a prisoner kept for hundreds if not thousands of years) on her second night in his land? I would have loved for him to hold more of a grudge and then we navigate that with them.

I loved the aspect of her finding Meliory and helping him escape as she was put to death. I also absolutely loved the reunion between Meliory and Leona, and after all he’d been through his first instinct was to help neya heal.

Vesuva was also a great edition in my opinion I absolutely love her

I did also like the twist of Neya and Xylos being lovers and that there was never a “Thora”, and I did really like the story on how Xylos was imprisoned by his father to keep his fathers motives at bay with the high court in Haelen

I did also think the spicy scenes were very good and very well written, I wouldn’t say it’s overly spicy but also not too little!
(I love Talon) and I loved seeing the hard exterior of Talon break down around Kaelia and him becoming lovey dovey with her :)

Also I quite liked the idea of her visions, it was quite a cool aspect of the story which made it feel like a lot was going on at once (in a good way) it was a good way to keep the reader on their toes. I do feel as though the story went on we weren’t finding out as much as id liked about the visions and why she was getting them, but also I suppose we were supposed to find out as she did? Still this was slightly frustrating.

Hera being unbound???? Oh my god.

Overall I will be reading the second book and I did enjoy this one!

Thanks for letting me read this book.

This book has the premise of a dark romantasy based story which includes a magic system and magical creatures along the way but I'm sorry to say it wasn't for me.

Kaelia is a mortal turning 21. She has to find her Elarthai and get a Lunthra bond approved. If she fails, she could be banished or worse, death. Talon Veyr, a dark shadow reaper, says she belongs to him. She fights the bond for a long time, then things change and she ends up in the umbral world with Talon’s people.

Kaelia’s situation is compelling on paper—she must find her Elarthai and secure a Lunthra by her twenty-first birthday or face dire consequences—but the emotional stakes weren’t fully realized. Talon is written as dark and possessive, and while some of his lines are striking,
-
“You cannot possibly comprehend how much you unmoor me,” he murmured against my skin. “You are my direction. If I had to choose between all the centuries I have lived and one single second in your presence, I would choose you. Without hesitation.”-,
the emotional build-up that would make those moments resonate is missing.

I had to go to the glossary to understand the magic systems and the realms, history, That constant referencing took me out of the story and made it feel very vague and underdone.

There are scenes that end abruptly—one in particular where Kaelia releases a vasuva from its prison and then Talon appears and they have a conversation but it sort of stops short and then all of a sudden she's back in her room in the next chapter—leaving me to imagine what should have happened. These gaps made me question whether parts of the story were omitted or simply not developed enough to feel complete.

Because this is the start of a series, I wanted more emotional and narrative building. Short, sharp chapters can work, but here they often sacrifice depth and character development. If the book were a standalone, the briskness might be more forgiving; as the first in a series, it needs stronger foundations to make readers invested in coming back.

There is a cliff-hanger at the end which I hope will lead the 2nd book in a better direction and becomes more enthralling for readers.

ARC Review - Echoes of The Lunthra by Tala Khalil

I'm incredibly grateful to have been selected as an ARC reader for this beautiful and immersive story. You can truly feel the care and effort that went into crafting this world.

This was my first time reading Tala Khalil, and I have to say the world-building of Lunthra completely pulled me in. The magic system felt unique, layered, and intentional, and it made the story even more captivating.

What first drew me in, honestly, was the artwork I saw on TikTok. I needed to know who these characters were and I’m so glad I did.

Kaelia and Talon? Their dynamic had me hooked. I loved the character development, the tension, the emotional push and pull, and yes the romance and spicy moments were written so well. Their bond unfolds in a way that feels both powerful and unsettling (in the best way).

Beyond the romance, this story explores themes of fate vs choice, identity, power, control, and what it truly means to belong especially in a world where being “unbound” can cost you everything .

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I’m excited to continue the journey. If you’re looking for a magical, slightly dark romantasy with strong world-building and tension-filled romance, I definitely recommend adding this to your 2026 reading list.

✨ Go give it a read...you won’t regret it. ✨

First, I just want to say how much I appreciate being chosen as an ARC reader for this. Indie authors put so much into their work, and I truly respect the effort and creativity that goes into bringing a story like this to life.

This book has a really strong concept and so much potential. The idea behind the bonds, and the overall world is really interesting and feels like it could grow into something amazing. You can definitely see the foundation of a story that could be very immersive and unique.

For me personally, it just didn’t fully come together the way I was hoping. The pacing felt a bit quick and jumpy, like it was moving from moment to moment without enough time to really build things up. I found myself wanting more depth, especially when it came to the characters. I wanted to feel more of what they were feeling and understand them on a deeper level.

I also think the world has so much potential, but I would have loved a little more development within the story itself to really bring it to life. There were moments where I felt like I was trying to fill in the gaps instead of fully experiencing the world as it was unfolding.

Overall, I think this story has really great bones and a lot of potential to become something special. With more depth, more buildup, and a bit more expansion, I could see this turning into a story that a lot of readers would love.

While it wasn’t fully my style as it is now, I truly see the vision and appreciate the heart behind it.

There’s something undeniably enchanting about Echoes of The Lunthra—a story that feels like stepping into a dream you’re not quite ready to wake from.

First, a huge thank you for the ARC—this was such a magical journey to experience early. From the very first page, Khalil weaves a world rich with atmosphere, where every shadow seems to whisper and every silence holds meaning. The prose is lyrical without being overwhelming, striking a beautiful balance between elegance and readability.

The world-building is where this story truly shines. Lunthra feels alive—mysterious, layered, and brimming with quiet magic. I found myself completely immersed, drawn in by the subtle unfolding of its lore and the sense that there was always more just beneath the surface.

The characters are compelling, though at times I wished for a little more depth in their emotional arcs. Still, their journeys were engaging enough to keep me invested, especially as the story leaned into its more introspective and haunting moments.

The pacing occasionally slowed in the middle, but it never lost its charm. If anything, it added to that dreamy, lingering quality the book carries so well.

Overall, Echoes of The Lunthra is a beautifully written, atmospheric read that will appeal to lovers of soft magic, introspective fantasy, and stories that feel like a quiet spell being cast around you.

Well… I have to say this from the beginning: the tension in this book is incredible. I started reading it not expecting the romance to impress me this much, but wow, both the emotional and spicy scenes were written so well. The intimate moments are definitely hot. And they never feel unnecessary because they fit naturally into the story and deepen the connection between the main couple, Kaelia and Talon.

The characters really stand out in this book. You understand them, their motivations and choices. The author gave them a lot of depth and self-reflection, allowing them to grow naturally while also showing the consequences of their actions throughout the book.

And again, the chemistry between the main characters… It’s just wow. In my opinion writing a fated mates romance is difficult. But Tala Khalil absolutely nailed it. You believe in their connection. Their bond feels intense and convincing from beginning to end.

Overall, this book gave me everything I wanted from a romantasy: amazing chemistry, emotional depth, immersive world-building and emotional scenes that truly make you feel something. And this is only the beginning of the trilogy! I can’t wait to see where the next books take these characters and their relationship.

Thank you to Tala Khalil for the ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

I was one of Tala's beta readers for Echoes of the Lunthra & although she made quite a few changes, I still love this book just as much as I did before. This story is an exciting & enticing romantic fantasy that will pull you in within the first chapter. The world that Tala created was described in such detail that you could envision yourself there. She has a way of weaving words & details so beautifully that it makes it almost poetic.

The connection between Talon & Kaelia felt very natural, even when he knew a bit more than she did on what was going on & why she felt the way she did, & when she tried to deny it. & don't even get me started on those spice scenes. 🥵 Seriously I think they were even hotter the second time around. Omg, delicious. 🫠

This story will have you anticipating what will happen next, you'll turn the page & want to keep going even when you should be sleeping. It keeps you guessing with many twists & unexpected turns, it even had me tearing up at one point. The magic, the mystery, the connection between Talon & Kaelia! I loved it all! I don't want to spoil anything, but there are moments in the book that make you want to know what will happen next & I really hope we get some of that in the second book.

Thank you Tala for entrusting me with your beautiful work of art.

First of all, thank you so much for the chance to read this as an ARC. I really appreciate the effort indie authors put into their work, and it always means a lot to be part of that.

Here is my Thoughts of this book:-

This book has a really strong concept and a lot of potential. The idea of the bonds and the overall world is genuinely interesting, and it feels like the kind of story that could grow into something really immersive and unique.

That said, it didn’t fully click for me personally. The pacing felt a bit too quick and jumpy at times, like the story was moving from one moment to another without enough buildup. Because of that, I struggled to fully connect with the characters. I really wanted more depth and more insight into their emotions and backgrounds, especially their lore.

The world itself is interesting, but I felt like it needed more development within the story to really bring it to life. Some parts of the magic system were also a bit confusing, which made it harder to stay fully immersed.

Overall, it’s a good story with a strong idea behind it, just not really my cup of tea. But I can definitely see the potential, and I think with a bit more depth and buildup, it could turn into something really great.

So i rate it 3.5 ⭐️

This book has SUCH a good concept. Like the whole bond idea and the world?? Genuinely so interesting and it hooked me straight away. It has that vibe where you can tell it could turn into something really addictive and unique.

But… for me it didn’t fully hit the way I wanted it to 😭

The pacing felt a bit rushed and kind of jumped around, so I didn’t feel like I had enough time to properly sit in moments before we were onto the next thing. I kept wanting things to slow down just a little so the tension and emotions could actually build.

I also really wanted more depth with the characters. I needed to feel them more like give me the angst, the connection, the internal chaos… I just didn’t feel as attached as I wanted to, which made it harder to fully get invested.

And the world?? SO much potential, but I feel like it wasn’t explored enough yet. There were times where I was like wait… I need more detail here because I feel like I’m filling in blanks instead of being fully pulled into it.

That being said the foundation of this story is really strong. With a bit more development, more build-up, and more depth, I could 100% see this becoming one of those books people obsess over

Thank you Tala Khalil for the ARC of Echoes of the Lunthra ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book gave whole other vibe for world where you can experience magic and simple life.i love the character where MMC can do anything save his partner .i enjoyed this book and plot building starting was slow but it stick with form the moment talon see kaelia.

A story set between two worlds Haelen, where Kaelia lives a simple life in the light, and Umbral, where Talon belongs among shadows and darkness. After turning 21, Kaelia feels a pull in her soul, something missing until she meets Talon and discovers their fated bond.
Though she tries to resist it, their souls connect in ways she can’t ignore. Leaving everything behind, she steps into Umbral but their love isn’t easy. Political tensions, court interference, and fragile peace threaten to tear them apart. Yet through all the chaos, their bond only grows stronger.
I loved the concept of dual worlds, fate, and the slow strengthening of their connection despite all odds. After everything they go through, seeing them find peace felt rewarding.
I’m really excited to see what happens next how their world evolves and what challenges await them in the sequel.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was IMMEDIATELY hooked in the first chapter! As I was introduced to the MCs I knew I was going to enjoy this book. The fact that everyone was afraid of Talon but Kaelia stood up to him, made my heart happy instantly.

The tension between the two of them, the forbidden aspects of it, and the deep resonation of how they were drawn to each other was the perfect combination. Don't even get me started on the spice of it all... whew! LOL

The struggle of power between the rulers of Haelen & Veythar & the lies that had been told were really interesting and I found myself hoping that more and more would be discovered as I read. The pace of the book was really good & I felt like it had a great balance of world-building and plot movement.

I still have so many questions, but also so much was resolved by the end of the book. I love a good cliffhanger as much as the next reader, but its nice to see things conclude as well. Or have they? I can't wait to find out!

I recieved this as an ARC from the author for an honest review... So here it is:

Okay, so this book did get me out my reading slump... I tried 2 other books that did not manage it... so thank you to this book firstly!

I actually really enjoyed this. I liked the plot and the characters - especially Talon, the whole protective MMC and touch her and I will cause havoc, she is mine. Yes please (I wouldnt have opposed to some more 'touch her and die' elements though - this didnt reach that). There were some aspects that actually crushed my soul - I felt so much for him, I could have hugged him and never let go. Kaelia - I liked her in the end but my god she annoyed me in the beginning. I hated the whole not accepting what she was dealt with scenario, it got old quickly. However once she accepted things, I liked her, she did grow on me. I liked the fact she challenged as well, sometimes... sometimes it was childish. I also loved the whole soulmates, fated mates, forbidden love aspects - they are some of my favourite tropes and this didnt disappoint in those areas!

So it did take me a while to get into it, at least half the book to fully invest - I think it was because I didnt like Kaelia at the start though. I also found the pacing a bit off in some areas, and some times it was hard to follow what was happening - there are some areas that are a little vague. Overall I feel more detail would have helped in the book as a whole, it would have created more depth to the storyline and to the characters. Having seen the fanart from the author - I failed to see that image in my head when reading it.

I am very excited for a book two though, I would like to read more about Talon and Kaelia. I want to know what happens next..

There was something so beautifully delicate about Echoes of the Lunthra. The writing carried an almost poetic quality at times, which made the story feel soft and immersive. I appreciated how approachable the world building was, giving enough detail to draw me in without ever feeling overwhelming. It also left me hoping we’ll get to explore even more of the surrounding cities in the next book.

Talon’s devotion to Kaelia was especially compelling to me. The depth of his dedication felt genuine and heartfelt, and it made me wish I could have experienced even more of the story through his POV. I would have loved to spend more time in his thoughts and see even more of that devotion from his side. I also thought the idea of being punished for not having a mate was such a fascinating and original element in a fantasy setting. It gave the story a unique edge that stood out to me.

Overall, this was a beautiful beginning to the Sayel Bound trilogy, and I’m very curious to see what awaits in book two.

Thank you to Tala Khalil for the opportunity to read this early eARC.

‼️Review from an advanced reader’s copy‼️
This book is super fast paced! I would say it fits the category of a romance novel set in a fantasy world and with fantasy elements. The romance is definitely the driving force of this book, so if that’s what you’re interested in then this book is definitely for you! I think the best part of the book is how unique the overall idea is. I have never quite read anything like this, though there are definitely popular trope elements being portrayed on page. I wish we got a little more character development before the characters got together, but I think that was just the nature of the plot. Additionally, I wish the world was a little more fleshed out. There were some elements that were confusing, especially when it came to the bonds and why they’re needed. Perhaps these things will be explored more in book 2. Overall, a fun and quick read for romantasy lovers! 3.5 stars, an excellent idea for a debut novel!

I am utterly wrecked by this book—in the best possible way.

From the first page, I was thrown into a world so vivid and intricately built it felt impossible to leave. Secrets, lies, and a history rewritten to control the present—it all weaves together into something breathtaking and haunting.

And the romance… the romance. Forbidden, aching, and bound by fate. The fated mates trope was executed flawlessly, filled with tension so thick it felt suffocating at times—in that addictive, can’t-look-away way. Every glance, every moment, every almost—it consumed me.

This story isn’t just about love, though. It’s about fighting for truth in a world designed to bury it. It’s about choosing what’s right even when it costs everything. The stakes felt impossibly high, and I was hanging on by a thread the entire time.

I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want to breathe without knowing what happened next.

And now? Now I’m left here, desperate, already aching for the next book.

I was completely hooked from start to finish. This is the kind of book you have to pry out of my cold, dead hands because I am not putting it down.
Watching Kealia’s character development unfold was so satisfying, especially alongside Talon. Their dynamic?? Everything. K & T have my whole heart. And listen… I love a good shadow daddy, and Talon absolutely delivered 🖤
The world-building felt fresh and immersive—I was especially obsessed with how the Umbral was brought to life through bioluminescent elements. It added such a unique, almost haunting beauty to the setting.
The spice-to-plot ratio was perfectly balanced (we love to see it), and overall this was such a fun, addictive read.
I already need book 2 immediately.
Thank you, Tala Khalil, for the opportunity to ARC read your debut—what an incredible start!

The world building was amazing and made you feel like you was there. Love how the magic works. The mystery, lies, secrets, and a history that was rewritten to control. It kept you in the edge of your seat and was hard to put down. Leaves you with some questions left unanswered. In Harlen you are told you must choose someone to bind your soul with by your 21st solstice or you are given to the Veythar. Where the shadow reapers feast on the essence of the unbound. Mfc Kaelia she doesn't want to be like everyone else and choose one just to survive she wants love. When he time comes she's and her soul doesn't choose a mortal but someone that she was taught to fear! Mmc Talon matter of Verthar is who she is connected to. But thier connection is forbidden. Will she choose a lifeless bond? Or will she chose Talon which could cause both to tear apart? Cannot wait till book 2.

Enemy to lovers, fated mates, shadow daddy, forbidden love, bonds

First of all, thank you so much to the author for letting me get an ARC for this debut.

The premise is what really sold this book to me, I was expecting a dark romantasy with a forbidden romance.

The world building felt complex at first and even though there is a glossary at the beginning so the reader gets to know the magic system and realm, I wish it was also explained as we went on so I didn’t have to keep going back and forth to understand what was happening/where we were.

Speaking of characters - I really liked them but it took me more than half of the book to actually care about them. I’m not sure if it was because it also took me a while to get into the story or if it was because certain chapters felt short/ended sooner than it should’ve.

The last 20% of the book were much more interesting for me and the cliffhanger makes one want to read book nr2 so I’ll be waiting on that to decide whether I want to continue reading this series or not.

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC Review.

Bind your soul by your twenty-first or be claimed by the Veythar, the shadow reapers.

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to do an arc review of this book. It was such a fun read with all the world building and development. Such a ride! I’m ready for book two already.

I really loved the shadowy mmc and the fmc. They are perfect for each other.

If you get a chance and want to dive into a world of magic give this a shot!

Some quotes I enjoyed! I present to you Talon 🖤🫶

“I love you, my Kaelia. I never meant for a human to be my undoing. But for you, I allow the ruin.”

“You cannot possibly comprehend how much you unmoor me,” he murmured against my skin. “You are my direction. If I had to choose between all the centuries I have lived and one single second in your presence, I would choose you. Without hesitation.”

I really enjoyed Echoes of The Lunthra and thought it was a strong start to the series. The world-building was immersive and unique, with a magic system and bond concept that immediately pulled me in. Kaelia and Talon had great chemistry, and their forbidden bond added plenty of tension and emotional stakes to the story. Talon was definitely a standout character, and I loved the romance and the intensity between them. While the fast pace kept me hooked, I did wish there had been a little more character development and emotional buildup in certain parts. Even so, the story had enough intrigue, romance, and mystery to keep me fully invested until the end. Overall, this was an engaging romantasy debut with a lot of promise, and I’m excited to see where the next book takes these characters.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

✨ARC REVIEW✨

⭐️4/5
🌶️2.5/5
‼️CONTAINS SPOILERS‼️

“I intend to protect you,” he murmured. “And I will not allow them to claim what is already mine.” 🖤

Echoes of the Lunthra by Tala Khalil was a mystical and ethereal read that kept me engaged and invested, even if it didn’t fully hit five-star territory for me.

I was in love with the overall idea of the book. It was so unique and interesting. I haven’t come across a fantasy book with the intriguing concept of a law that makes binding one’s self to another before their 21st solstice. This law supposedly enhances and stabilizes a ward around their world and prevents the shadows of Umbral from being able to feed on souls.

Kaelia is strong-willed and an emotionally charged FMC, while Talon is a possessive, shadow wielding, “Master of Veythar.” They share a forbidden bond that snapped in place as soon as they looked into each other’s eyes, a bond that is no longer supposed to exist. I found myself wishing for more a slower paced bond though. One that added a little more increasing suspense to their story therefore adding more in depth emotional climax when their bond does snap in to place. Still, their journey is engaging, and their struggles of having a forbidden bond were poetic.

It may not have completely wrecked me—but it lingered, like a spell that doesn’t quite fade. If you like fast paced romantic fantasy book about fated bonds, unique political laws, and shadow daddy’s, then this is a great book to read!

I am so happy to have received this ARC of Echos Of The Lunthra! I also had the pleasure of buddy reading this book with my sister which made it all the more fun 🥰

First of all I want to give credit for having a playlist, we need more playlists in fantasy books!!

This book was Deliciously forbidden and the world building and writing was so descriptive I felt like I was really there in this enchanting world🧚‍♀️✨
I really loved the plot idea of needing to be bound to your soul mate by your 21st solstice(birthday). 💫
One thing I would say is I wish Shadow daddy talon had some more character development, but who knows what’s too come in the next book👀

Echoes of the Lunthra

Tala Khalil

I REALLY liked this book. I finished it in a single read.

It grabs you straight from the beginning, and keeps its hold until the end.

The world is richly described, there were many times where I felt like I was actually “there” while reading.

The characters are fully fleshed out; this author seems to have a full and elaborate idea of who they are.

From what I understand, this is her debut, and I have to say, she is in my top 3 of new authors.

I am very excited for the rest of this series.

Spice rating - 🌶️🌶️🌶️ 3.9 out of 5. Solid spice. Nothing too “off-vanilla”, but very… “well written.”

I want it to be known I received an advance reader copy of this book. Thank you Tala Khalil. This is my honest review.
I really liked this book. I like the concept; it was new to me. I hadn't read this type of story, and it really intrigued me. I loved the way the MMC fell first and harder. The FMC was fighting it, but she couldn't resist and when you start reading you will understand why. The spicy scenes were spicy, and the story had a good start and a good pace to it. I just love the way Talon is there the FMC!!!!!!! You guys should def check it out. It got me out of a reading slump!!! Check it out!
