I so enjoyed reading every page of this story. The author has captured loss of a loved one and the quiet grief that can jump out unexpectedly on a sunny autumn day. The style is so easy to read yet captures emotions brilliantly. As someone who loves to browse a bookshop - always looking at new books, used books and the delight of finding a superb selection in so many charity shops, I adored the themes in this story. My dearest mum would have loved this book too and I thought of her with every page I turned. The tears flowed as she is no longer here to share the joy of reading, but there were also some happy tears, that she had shared her love of reading with me. Her James left her because of an illness. She was decimated and paralyzed in sadness. She discovers James had bought a bookshop in a town by the sea. He never told her. She’s shocked. She moves into the apartment above the shop and she puts a note in the window, We are open. Come in.
She is so sad but slowly cleans the dust away and washes the windows. She looks at books and opens one. She finds a note within the pages. A few customers enter and sit and read and add notes to books they pick up. This is a lovely story of healing and finding a new life.
