I loved this book! It was so cute and really felt like a 2000 romcom vibes that came along with it. I loved the fake dating scheme and I found myself flying through it. Lia writes such fun and relatable characters! Also it’s second chance 🙈😏

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes is book two in a interconnected, standalone four book series. I thoroughly enjoyed Carter and Savannah's second chance romance. Savannah finds herself in a pinchwhen she claims to have a fiancé while trying to earn a promotion at work. Problem is, she's not even dating. After reconnecting with, Carter, a childhood friend and the boy who broke her heart, during a blind date, Carter offers to be the fake fiancé. They are funny, entertaining, and have wonderful chemistry. This closed door romance is so worth the read.

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes is a total vibe, it gives all of the warm and fuzzies from early 2000’s rom coms and more! Picking back up with the best friend group ever, this is Savannah’s story. Savannah is competing for her dream job at work, and finds herself in need of a faux finance. Cue her childhood best friend and first love Carter!

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes is a quick read, the pages flow, and I could not put it down. The story includes a sweet second chance romance, capably exploring Savannah’s feelings as she reconnects with Carter, as she opens herself back up to love. It also features a second parallel plot where we follow Carter as he navigates his career post professional hockey, and I think this is where Fake Dates is at its best, exploring how we navigate living a life that is not what we had planned.

Savannah and Carter are a perfect match, and I really loved this novel. Lia Duchaine really knows how to capture that rom com feeling, reading this was a real treat.

Thank you to the author for providing an advance copy in exchange for an honest review, I cannot wait to see what is in store for Mackenzie!

Hands down 5 stars. I was really looking forward to this book. Then you add the teaser from Kneading A Spark and I needed this one asap. This book has chemistry that jumps off the pages. I loved how much you fall in love for each character. Savannah is so mature and refreshingly drama-free (unlike her coworker she is in competition with). Her maturity shines when you see her not holding a grudge against Carter as they were young when everything went down. This second chance romance was so cute and then you thrown in the angst and fake dating(fiance). I was loving all the laugh out loud moments. I will always pick up these books from Lia Duchaine as they are cute books that have some spice but will fade to black when it comes to explicit scenes. So if you are holding out because you aren't one for spicy books this one is a good one to pick up. You get the giggles, laughter and romance that you crave from the early 2000s Rom Coms like the wedding planner and 13 going on 30...

You need to pick this cute romance up!

Thank you Lia Duchaine for the advanced copy.

I absolutely loved this story! It was the perfect sweet read that I needed. Right from the beginning you really feel the depth to the relationship and to the feelings that Savannah and Carter had previously… and although they were apart for 8 years their relationship picks up right where they left off and it felt so natural and seamless. The tension and chemistry between the two is there the first moment they interact! I loved being back among the girl squad - Lia has created the most fun, caring, and loyal group of characters who are so supportive and always have each others backs. The storyline was fast paced and I had hard time putting it down!

Whelp, Carter was so stinking adorable! He’s always loved Savannah and you can tell. This was a friends to lovers, second chance romance and I ate it up. I’m pretty sure I will read anything from Duchaine. Her characters always hit me in the feels and this one was no different. It was so cute that their nicknames for each other were Westy and Savvy. If you’re looking for a cute, easy read with a sweet MMC who remembers the little things about his best friend who he fell for, this is the one for you!

This is a closed door romance for those looking for nospice books. You will know what happened but there isn’t any detail.

Thanks so much to the author for allowing me an arc!

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes by Lia Duchaine was a sweet, engaging story about second chances and finding your way back to the right person. I loved this second-chance romance between Carter and Savannah. Savannah is a wedding planner who suddenly finds herself fake-dating someone from her past and Carter is a retired hockey player.

The wedding setting and fake dating trope made this such a fun read, and their history added the perfect amount of tension.

Closed door with some language.

This is the third book in a truly heartwarming series about a close knit group of girls and their journey to find true love.

Savannah and Carter are the definition of second chance lovers who never fell out of love. They are the most adorable couple who have been pining for each other despite being thousand of miles apart. While pretending to be engaged they find that in all of their years apart they still had meaningful effects on each others everyday lives.
A must read for Rom-Com lovers!!

Savannah and Carter were childhood sweethearts until Carter was suddenly drafted into the NHL and disappeared from town without a word. Years later Savannah has rebuilt her life. She has great friends, a solid career as a wedding planner, and a shot at a big promotion. The problem is she blurts out a small lie to improve her chances. She tells her boss she is engaged. With no fiancé in sight, she needs a convincing solution fast. Enter Carter, newly retired and back in town after an injury, arriving at exactly the wrong and right moment.

I love a second chance romance, and while that thread is definitely here, the story leans more into the fake dating trope. It is a closed door, sugar sweet romance and honestly pretty charming. Carter and Savannah are easy to root for, and their history gives the relationship a little more weight than a typical light romance.

Such a cute story! Lia does it again with her relatable characters, witty dialogue and a plot that pulls at your heartstrings for anyone that’s wondered where their first love is now. Also there’s just a touch of hockey for everyone that’s obsessed with sport romances at the moment 🤣 Highly recommend. Thank you for the ARC!

What an enjoyable, sweet, easy read! Can I get one Carter to go, please? I like reading romances, but I always need the story to have more than "just a typical romance." This one had it! I loved the storyline, the characters, the friendships, the romance. I loved it all. It is a closed door romance, so cringe-free for those that don't appreciate the smut. 😉

💔 What do you do when the "one who got away" is the only one who can save you?

I’ve read my fair share of Lia Duchaine, but Carter and Savannah’s story didn't just meet my expectations—it completely shattered them. This is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite of her collection.

They were more than just friends; they were a "rare" kind of soul-deep connection that everyone knew was destined for more. But then came the NHL draft. Carter was pulled away to Montreal at such a young age, leaving Savannah—and the future they almost had—behind in the dust of a professional hockey career.

Fast forward a few years, and the universe decides it isn't done with them yet.

• The Fallen Star: Carter is back. But he isn't the hockey hero anymore. After a career-ending injury stole his identity on the ice, he’s rebuilding himself as a firefighter. 🚒
• The Dreamer: Savannah is clawing her way to the top, fighting for a career-defining Wedding Planner promotion while fending off the most toxic coworker imaginable. 👰‍♀️

Imagine being set up on a blind date at a wedding—the ultimate high-stakes environment for a romantic—only to look up and see the face you’ve spent years trying to forget. The shock, the tension, and the immediate reigniting of a flame that never truly went out... I was gasping.

I spent the entire journey on the edge of my seat, watching these two navigate the "what ifs" and the scars of the past. By the final pages, I was literally crying. 😭

Lia Duchaine has crafted a masterpiece about:
• The agony of "almost" and the beauty of "finally."
• Overcoming the grief of a lost dream (both on the ice and in the heart).
• Fixing something that was assumed to be broken beyond repair.

It’s a raw, beautiful exploration of finding yourself when the world you built falls apart—and realizing that home was always a person, not a place.

Do not just add this to your TBR—RUN and grab it immediately. You’re going to fall in love with Carter and Savannah just as hard as I did. 🍰

This was such a cute and heartwarming rom-com with sunshine characters and just the right amount of emotional depth.

Carter and Savannah were childhood best friends until Carter left for the NHL without a word, leaving Savannah deeply hurt. Years later, Savannah is chasing her dream of becoming a wedding planner while working at an events company.

When her boss creates a competition between Savannah and her colleague Regina for the next head wedding planner role, Savannah feels the pressure and impulsively claims she’s engaged. The only problem? She isn’t dating anyone , and suddenly needs a fake fiancé.

Carter returns to California after an injury ends his hockey career. Struggling with losing the life he loved, he’s rebuilding himself by training as a firefighter and going to counselling.

When the two reconnect during a blind date for the Fireman’s Ball, the chemistry is still there. Carter agrees to be Savannah’s fake fiancé, and as they spend time together visiting venues and pretending to plan a wedding, old feelings quickly resurface.

Their shared history adds emotional weight to the story, especially as they navigate the hurt of the past and the love that never really disappeared. Savannah’s lifelong love of weddings, including a portfolio she’s kept since she was young, adds a sweet and personal touch to the story.

Carter is an incredibly lovable hero, and watching him and Savannah find their way back to each other is both tender and satisfying.

A charming second-chance, fake-dating romance filled with chemistry, healing, and heartfelt moments. I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your TBR.

Thank you Lia Duchaine for this arc. This is my honest review.

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes is the third book in an interconnected stand alone series, that can be read on its own. Told as a dual POV, the FMC and MMC are childhood best friends that are unexpectedly separated. Years later they reconnect on a blind date.

Savannah Hart is vying for the head wedding planner position at her job. In a moment of desperation she says she will be researching and gathering information for her wedding portfolio with her fiancé. Only problem is she doesn’t have a fiancé.

Carter Weston has a career ending injury that ends his high profile NHL career. Depressed and angry that his life goal is no longer, Carter moves back to his hometown and becomes a fire fighter. He goes on a blind date and is surprised when it’s Savannah. Upon hearing Savannah's dilemma, Carter volunteers to be Savannah’s fake fiancé. Will these two childhood best friends finally take the leap and confess their feelings for one another?

I adore this book. Lia creates such lovable characters and I want to be BFF with all of them. Savannah and Carter are so sweet and their chemistry just jumps off the page. The friendship between Savannah and Carter is so comfortable and easygoing that honestly even I would be afraid to cross that line. I love that Savannah is so drama-free and driven in her career. I mean, she knew since she was young that being a wedding planner was her dream job. Carter is an ex-hockey player, turned firefighter who loves to cook and does it well. What's not to love? Carter is officially one of my new book boyfriends. This is definitely my favorite book from the series to date. (I can't wait for Mackenzie's book.)

If you want a feel good romcom read with pining childhood best friends, laughs, and some tears (just me?!) then this one is for you. Savvy and Westy’s story is one you don’t want to miss!

Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes have such a fun, cozy rom-com feel that reminds me of early-2000s romantic comedies. This book follows Savannah as she competes for her dream job and suddenly needs a fake fiancé to help her situation. Enter Carter—her childhood best friend and first love. Their fake-dating arrangement brings them back into each other’s lives and quickly stirs up feelings they both thought were long behind them.

This was a really easy and engaging read. The story moves quickly, and I found myself flying through the pages. I loved the second-chance romance between Savannah and Carter and how the story explores Savannah slowly allowing herself to be vulnerable again. Carter’s storyline was also interesting, especially as he navigates life after his professional hockey career and tries to figure out what his future looks like when things don’t go as planned.

Savannah and Carter felt so natural together, and their shared history made their connection even sweeter. Lia Duchaine captures that classic rom-com charm—lighthearted, heartfelt, and comforting. Overall, this was such an enjoyable read and perfect for anyone who loves fake dating and second-chance romance. 💕📚

Special thanks to Lia for the ARC.

I have loved every single one of the MMCs in this series, but Carter is by far my favorite one. He was a green flag man all the way. I also found myself relating to Savannah a lot in this book and I love how non-dramatic she was.

Savannah has wanted to be a wedding planner her whole life. Now is her time to shine, she is up for a promotion to be the lead wedding planner at her company. The only snag is, in her desperation, she made up the fact that she has a fiancé. Whoopsie!

Carter’s dreams have come crashing down with the career ending injury that forced him to change career paths. He has decided to move back to his hometown and bring his parents with him. He has never been able to get past Savannah and is shocked when she shows up for his blind date.

This is the perfect poolside - or fireside - read, and my favorite of the series so far! Throughout each book the characters gain more depth, and each character has such a unique story that it is never the same thing twice. They are each charming and flawed, and come to life as you learn more.

In book three, the stakes are high for Savannah as she battles her nemesis for her dream job. In the ultimate meet (again)-cute she is reunited with her first love (Carter) and they rediscover their connection while he helps her create her ultimate (fake?) dream wedding to win the job. The chemistry is certainly real as these two navigate past hurt and hope for the future in this will they/won’t they reunion story.

With relatable emotions and plenty of humor, Lia again pulls you into the world of four best friends - each strong and independent, and always there for each other. Can’t wait to read Mackenzie’s story ♥️

Thank you Lia Duchaine for the ARC of Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes!
I was really looking forward to this book ever since the teaser we got in Kneading A Spark. Savannah and Carter grew up together and were best friends. When they were sixteen, Savannah finally admitted she loved him. Carter returned her feelings, and they shared a magical kiss… only for him to disappear a few days later without a word.
Carter was drafted to the NHL and had to move to Montreal with less than 24 hours’ notice. Instead of facing Savannah and breaking her heart, he chose to leave without saying goodbye. Now he’s back in California, and all he wants is Savannah.
I absolutely loved the chemistry between these two. Savannah was so mature and refreshingly drama-free. She understood they were both young when everything happened and didn’t hold a grudge against Carter, which was such a win for me.

I just finished Fake Dates and Wedding Cakes by Lia Duchaine, and it was exactly what you’d expect from a sweet, small-town, second-chance romance.

The storyline was light and easy to follow; I ended up reading it in one sitting. The MMC was incredibly sweet and so gentle, sweet and caring with the FMC. Their history was so sad, especially considering their falling-out happened when they were both very young - I felt their heartache! Watching them find their way back to each other was really heartwarming.

That said, the miscommunication and constant interruptions did frustrate me at times and slowed the story down a bit.

On the positive side, the chemistry was written beautifully, especially for a closed-door romance. The side characters also added so much warmth and charm, helping bring the whole story together.

Overall, this was a cozy, feel-good read, and I’d rate it 3.75⭐.

Such a cute romance! Was a big fan of both Savannah and Carters sorry. I really enjoyed the trope of fake finance and planning a fake wedding. Lia did a good well done with the characters. It had humor, love, sass and heartfelt moments. There was one character that we would all love to just 🤛. Once you read it you’ll know. Carter isn’t just some rando if that’s what you’re thinking. He was actually her friend a long while before. So you get that second chance trope as well. I think the fact that Savannah knew him before made the story better. Loved both of their characters, the chemistry. So darn cute. Had some spice as well. A very enjoyable read with character growth. Well written and keeps you entertained. I’m excited to continue reading more of her work! Only my second book from her and she has become an auto read author of mine!
