Idealogical kind of thriller. Good in parts but gets bogged down in preaching new world principles. No definitive conclusion as it is the first part in a series.

I really like the book cover, black with some texture. I like the beginning of the story, with the light in the re box giving mellow feelings to people an making (some of?) their wishes come true. Then... you get into some kind of adventure fiction, with the kids trying to escape the government forces for just about the rest of the book...
I even read part of it again, thinking I was missing something, until the light finally came. It is the first tome of a something-logy, three, four, five books, who knows. You are not even left with a cliffhanger, nor with a decent end, just left with Alistair with his aunt. Does it make sense? no. Are the 150 pages of pursuit useful for the story? no. You are just suppose to wait for the following books and be happy with it, with no idea where it is going. Well, happy, I am not. It is not a book, it is a part, with fill-ups to get it to the usual length.

I liked the book until I realized it was part of a story which will be told in 2,3,5 or 8 books. It left me empty and frustrated. I reviewed the kindle edition by mistake.

An outstanding YA novel. The characters, plot and themes in this book all make for an engrossing, terrific read. I devoured the book in one sitting and didn't want to put it down.
