This is a clever and twisty thriller with plenty of gore as a fun extra addition. Tadahiro doesn’t have much going for him in life, but so long as he has his idol he’s happy. So, when granted ultimate power, what will he do with it? Why, try to make Misaki into the top idol ever. People who mock her, belittle her, or are in her way … well, they have to go.
The writing is strong, the pacing is fast, and the characters are interesting enough that I’d be happy to read more books either with the detectives or the twins. We see a great deal of the blonde half of Sudo, but not so much the dark haired twins. Hopefully we see more of both of them in the next installment.

I requested this one since it's a mixed of:
- Final Destination - this is the one of the true ones, with the gore and almost impossible accidents. Enjoyed the deaths in this omnibus.
- Death Note - I really, really hated this one. We also have some weird very brilliant teens who's going to foil the plans of N. I don't really like their characters their too weird and the final confrontation in this book is a bit stupid more of that later.
- Perfect Blue - I could honestly see the comparison, but we spent too long with the overly obsessive creep in the first issue. Though I admit I like that we didn't really get any redeeming features for the bad guy, which is unfortunately and arguably is the protagonist of this book.
- Black Swan & The Substance - I didn't really get the comparison for this one, especially since Misaki seems to be not obsessed with fame and was fine before N became a thing.
What made Death Note compelling despite it's flaws, is the cat and mouse of Light and L and Light's motive behind his killing spree can arguably be rootable. But AIDOL's N vs the twins was just so disappointing. The confrontation between them is just so boring, I wasn't really enjoying this one but this confrontation just nuked the book for me.
Next is Misaki, we already have an unrootable God protagonist with N, the twins who are a poor copy of L, I was hoping Misaki was at least well-written. Perfect Blue's Mima has at least some urgency in Perfect Blue. In here, Misaki is just an object of N's obsession, a damsel in distress, the one time she got urgency by selling their albums in the street she immediately became a bargaining chip.
I wanted to talk about the police, the one that started this whole investigation. It was known pretty known that somehow Misaki is involved in this. But N just sent them a message to leave Misaki alone, didn't attempt to kill them, didn't follow them, nothing. It feels strange, to say the least, it's understandable since it's necessary but it's a dumb move by N.

I searched online, mostly TVTropes, about what happened earlier, and there's more to the confrontation. I'd say the power of N is not really stated. They theorized he could only be on one place, , that he can nuke the world and hold it hostage, etc.
Also via TVTropes, since I wasn't planing to continue this one, the ending is just disappointing.

Did this story grab me by the end of the first chapter, compelling me to binge read it all late into the night and have my heart still pumping well after the last page was turned? Yup. Do I also think this is good commentary/satire of just how tech dependent our modern culture is? Also yup. But that doesn't mean this was a perfect read.
The gore sometimes felt... a little much to me. For me, it was easy to flip past some of those depictions of cut-up and bleeding bodies, but I just want to note for sensitive readers that this is indeed a gorefest. When the summary called it a "grindhouse slasher" that was apparently not exaggerated. And as a someone who is a fan of Death Note and Perfect Blue (which this story is compared by Kodansha to), and appreciates how those are psychological thrillers that manage to be unsettling without gore, it can feel a little unneeded for this story to me. But at the same time, I acknowledge there may be those who appreciate a more gory story in the vein of those.
And the details behind how the last confrontation in this volume was pulled off felt... a little unsatisfying. A little bit of a cheat, really. I can put up with a lot of BS in manga and anime so it doesn't bother me too much, but I do roll my eyes at how the volume managed to have the human investigators score a win over this seemingly all powerful technological being.
And I'm a little hmmmmmm at the ending detail that Misaki, after a particularly good moment where we examine how a victim can be forced to keep up a facade of what their stalker/abuser wants to see in them to avoid unpleasant consequences, seemingly missing N and wondering if he could have fulfilled his promise to make her a worldwide idol. Liiiiike... girl, he killed people and traumatized you to the point you were briefly a hermit. There was really nothing of a positive bond for her to be missing. It felt more like something being done to foreshadow what is to come in the next and final volume more than anything the character would be genuinely feeling.
But AM I interested in reading that next and final volume? Oh, absolutely. The suspense got me good.

AIDOL follows a deranged J-pop superfan who becomes so obsessed with his favourite idol that he somehow merges with the electrical grid and begins to cyberstalk her and anyone who dares to say her name. What follows is an increasingly gory killing spree in the name of making her the "top idol in the world", and a frantic police investigation to catch him.
I can totally see why this is being recommended to fans of Perfect Blue, as it carries many of the same psychological themes and explores the dark side of parasocial relationships in a similar way. It also has hints of Death Note, especially when the quirky detective duo are introduced and their cat and mouse game ensues. However, I really would have liked to see more of that dynamic, as I think it could have given the story an extra angle to keep things interesting.
I liked the concept of the story, but when I take a step back from it, not much really happened over the course of this omnibus, and that's where it was lacking a bit for me. I wasn't bored by any means, but in some ways it did feel like a mash-up of other manga. Aside from seeing a lot of people die (pretty creatively, I might add), the stakes didn't feel that high, perhaps because I had no real connection to any of the characters involved. The ending also felt a bit meh to me.
Aside from that, I loved the art style. It's gruesome, graphic, detailed, and very visceral in places. I may have paused on a few pages just to admire the gore, because it's so well drawn. Each character also had their own distinct style and facial expressions, which I really liked.
Overall, I had a good time reading this and I would recommend it to fans of psychological/body horror manga, even if I think the story could have used a bit more intensity.

When he has an unfortunate day, he ends up transforming into something between a man and an AI. Then, he starts experimenting with what he can do from the inside of technology. Slowly but surely, he starts making darker and darker decisions to ensure that, whether she wants it or not, Kanzaki won't have a choice but to end up on top.

The first volume did move a bit slower for me, but once we were introduced to Sudo, I was all in. I was turning page after page watching the disasters and darkness unfold without being able to imagine any type of reprieve or action against Nasu. * Classic adult manga style, clean lines, intricate details (think Death Note).
* Pries open the hard heart of toxic fandom and modern parasocial relationships.
* Extreme violence and gore.

A very compelling techno mystery with solid social commentary on parasocial relationships and stardom. At times, it reminded me of Perfect Blue and Death Note. You really felt for the J-pop singer who is constantly haunted by an obsessive digital ghost that serves as the manga’s antagonist. Sometimes the cost of fame is too damn high!
Apparently, this isn’t the end of the story, so I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes from here!

A wild ride, for fans of music idols and techno thrillers. The art was amazing, it was action filled and entertaining. It’s a quick read but I appreciate that this edition is the complete story, at least for now. The potential is there and it leaves you satisfied. As a minor negative, I found some elements poorly explained and the villain wasn’t fully fleshed out. 3.5 stars

I was particularly intrigued by the Sudo detective duo and felt like there was more to explore there, and Misaki's reactions were understandable but her 180 felt sudden. The resolution also left me a little underwhelmed.

How far can your obsession go?

This book is absolutely crazy. It starts at a high intensity and doesn't let up until the last page. I felt very strong Death Note vibes from this story, so I'd recommend this for anyone that also enjoys that series. Be warned though: this book has very intense gore and violence. It is absolutely not appropriate for all audiences.

Well y’all I gotta say, this was quite a wild decent manga that I have ever come across!
You are going to feel sorry for our MC Tadahiro here because he tries his best in life being in a crappy job and helped his alcoholic mother with her medical bills. Ngl it is hard to watch since it unfortunately happens to some ppl irl so it’s gut wrenching enough. He then electrocutes himself, kills himself because of it, and he then becomes a “electronic soul” in order to ensure his favourite “idol” gets to the top. However, she has her own major issues about it just like anyone obviously lol. I also liked the group of detectives including the Sono twins and the glasses lad (can’t remember his name, not a bad looking fella btw :3).
If you like your revenge anime and manga like Death Note, Perfect Blue, Terror of resonance, Code Geass and Save Me, this one’s for y’all!

the art style of this manga is chillingly gorgeous with its ability to drive home the scale and impact of violence of the story through still imagery. so detailed and emotive--just like the story itself.
this is my first time reading something from this mangaka and i already can't wait for more, both from aidol and from any future works.

the art style of this manga is chillingly gorgeous with its ability to drive home the scale and impact of violence of the story through still imagery. so detailed and emotive--just like the story itself.
this is my first time reading something from this mangaka and i already can't wait for more, both from aidol and from any future works.
