Voldemort intended the object to be used by his most loyal follower in the event that his horcruxes were destroyed, but it ended up in Hermione’s possession instead.

It sent her back to a time when he was much less the monster that she’d always known him to be. Nothing could have prepared her for the intelligence and charm of Tom Riddle.

He isn’t who she thought he was.

Hermione discovers that it’s a dark descent into the madness of the man she should hate, but can’t… a descent she will never emerge from.

WOW. I already want to restart this book.
This is a god tier fanfic.

I believe this rivals Manacled.
I haven’t felt this way about a story since I read manacled.

My only problem is the last 10% felt very rushed and boring. But the other 90% made up for it.

Cecilia was right. This is genuinely god tier. An actual masterpiece.

This was my first Tomione fic, and also the longest fic I’ve ever read. Somehow, despite being massive, it never felt long. I was completely obsessed the entire time. Every chapter made me anxious, excited, stressed, or emotionally engaged. I literally had to force myself to stop reading at night because my brain would not calm down afterward.

Tom in this fic is one of the darkest morally grey characters I’ve read. Honestly, he’s not even grey. He’s black. Almost irredeemable at times. And because of that, I kept wondering how the author was ever going to make this a believable HEA when Hermione and Tom’s morals, goals, and futures are opposed.

But somehow it worked.

The forbidden romance in this was INSANE. Every interaction between them felt dangerous. I was nervous every single time they were alone together because there was always this tension between attraction, manipulation, obsession, fear, and genuine love.

The side characters were also incredibly written. I hated Walburga with my entire soul. Gaspard was amazing and honestly I kind of wanted an AU where Hermione ended up with him. Abraxas confused me for most of the story.

And Tom’s flirtiness in this??? Horrific for my mental stability. The man was dangerously charming.

Also the smut was genuinely top tier. Somehow this fic made soul casting sex, obsessive possessiveness, and even the Cruciatus curse feel right.

🚨 Story- in the weirdest order possible. I tried grouping events by what led to other events instead of keeping things chronological, which honestly made this even more chaotic. Hopefully Future Luisa can still understand this because I’m definitely not rereading all of this to fact check myself.🚨

A few months after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione touches a dark object from Bellatrix’s vault called the Tempaestus. The artifact was created by Tom Riddle as a failsafe in case something went wrong in the future, sending whoever touched it back to a specific place and time.

Before being sent back, Hermione receives a reading from Madame Violette, a strange seer-like woman who tells her she’ll meet both her soulmate and her enemy, and that conflict follows her future.

Hermione is thrown into 1948.

At this point, Tom has already created 2 horcruxes and works at Borgin and Burkes while secretly building the foundation for becoming Voldemort.

Hermione and Tom first meet in Knockturn Alley when they literally crash into each other. Hermione instantly recognizes him and reacts with obvious fear, which immediately fascinates Tom. He doesn’t understand why this witch fears him so much when he’s still young, charming, and not publicly evil yet.

Tom becomes obsessed with her almost immediately.

Up until Hermione, Tom has never cared about romance. He’s been sleeping with Walburga Black for 6 years, but their relationship is entirely physical and emotionally detached. Hermione is the first person who genuinely unsettles him emotionally.

Hermione goes straight to Dumbledore for help. She tells him she’s from the future and shows him carefully selected memories without fully revealing future events. Dumbledore helps create a fake identity for her as the daughter of another witch.

Hermione gets a job at the Daily Prophet and starts publishing political articles, especially about banking reform and reducing wizard dependence on Gringotts. Tom strongly disagrees with many of her views but is deeply attracted to how intelligent and articulate she is.

At Malfoy Manor, Hermione gets closer to Abraxas and is invited to multiple social events. During one party, she casually tells stories about fighting dark wizards, robbing Gringotts, and escaping on dragonback, which Tom obviously thinks are ridiculous exaggerations.

Meanwhile, Hermione knows she eventually needs to kill Tom and destroy his horcruxes before he becomes Voldemort.

Tom, however, keeps delaying his own dark ambitions because he’s too busy obsessing over Hermione.

Dumbledore begins secretly training Hermione in dueling, occlumency, and legilimency. She becomes skilled enough to cast and defend simultaneously.

Hermione investigates the Azkaban breakout Tom secretly orchestrated and publishes information before the DMLE even discovers the details themselves. Gaspard, the head of the DMLE and friend of Dumbledore, offers her a position because of how brilliant she is.

Tom and Hermione eventually go on a date to a giant pub, where they finally kiss. Hermione is consumed by guilt because she knows exactly who he becomes in the future.

Trying to distract herself from Tom, Hermione starts spending more time with Abraxas. Tom reacts very normally by casting a possessive summoning spell on her that makes her come to him.

When Hermione arrives, Tom removes the spell before kissing her, touching her, and discovering she’s a virgin. He asks her to say she belongs to him, and she does.

Walburga witnesses everything and immediately attacks Hermione out of jealousy. Hermione responds by using advanced dueling techniques Dumbledore taught her and eventually casts Sectumsempra on Walburga before healing her afterward.

Tom is deeply impressed, especially because Hermione doesn’t even flinch when faced with Crucio or Avada Kedavra.

Later, Tom reads Abraxas’ mind and sees him kissing Hermione. Furious, Tom threatens him and obliviates him. Much later it becomes clear that Abraxas has actually always been in love with Tom himself.

Tom also becomes increasingly involved with Wilhelmina Tuft, the future Minister of Magic, who wants both political influence and Tom personally.

Eventually Tom soul casts himself into Hermione’s apartment and encounters Madame Violette again, who tells him Hermione is his soulmate.

Tom researches soulmate mythology and discovers the story of Aikaterine and the Ribbon of Fate. According to the myth, soulmates were originally one soul split in half by the gods because powerful magical pairs became too dangerous together.

Tom decides that if Hermione truly is his soulmate, he wants to eventually use the Ribbon of Fate to stitch their souls together completely and achieve even greater magical power.

Tom and Hermione’s relationship becomes increasingly toxic, obsessive, romantic, and everything in between.

At one point, after a brutal argument, Tom casts Crucio on Hermione before kissing her and sleeping with her. Later, while she falls asleep crying, he tells her that one day she’ll call him Voldemort.

Hermione slowly becomes dependent on potions to numb her guilt and emotional conflict.

Tom begins regularly soul casting into her apartment to watch over her. He eventually gives her an enchanted journal so they can communicate privately, as well as jewelry with a snake and phoenix pendant.

Their sexual relationship becomes intense and emotional. One scene has Hermione petrifying Tom just so she can tease him back after he edged her and threw her out of his house earlier.

The Death Eaters eventually discover Hermione’s involvement with Tom and begin plotting against her because of her blood status and political ideals.

During one meeting, Hermione secretly witnesses Tom performing horrifying dark magic involving stolen bone dust and portals saturated with dark energy. Tom realizes she’s there and uses legilimency on her, accidentally seeing flashes of Bellatrix torturing her in the future.

For the first time, Tom becomes horrified by what he himself will eventually become.

Later, Tom discovers proof Hermione truly is from the future after finding photographs of Harry, Ron, and Hogwarts in her apartment. He also discovers her scars, including “Mudblood” carved into her arm. He saves her from overdosing on potions- Tom finds her barely alive and locks himself inside her apartment for an entire week to force her through withdrawal safely.

During her withdrawal hallucinations, she accidentally reveals more details about the future and Voldemort.

In a fit of rage and self hatred, Tom goes to Hogwarts and kills the Basilisk because he realizes it would one day target muggleborns like Hermione.

Hermione eventually admits the truth about Voldemort’s future and her scars. Tom confesses he genuinely does not care about blood purity itself and mostly used it politically to manipulate pureblood supporters.

When photos of Hermione and Tom kissing are leaked, their relationship becomes public.

Tom eventually gives Hermione his horcrux ring to test whether she knows what it is. She unknowingly wears it regularly for a while.

Later, after Tom installs a blood purity supporter as editor of the Prophet, Hermione breaks things off with him, returns the ring, and joins the DMLE under Gaspard instead.

Hermione grows genuinely close to Gaspard, and there’s obvious romantic tension between them. Tom becomes increasingly jealous, though he also recognizes Gaspard is objectively a good man.

Tom later enchants a fake diary horcrux and leaves it at Malfoy Manor to test Hermione again. Instead of taking it, she secretly swaps it with a transfigured book about Dumbledore’s life.

Reading the book affects Tom because he realizes he doesn’t want to become the lonely, monstrous future Hermione described.

Tom also starts challenging blood purity ideology more openly among the Death Eaters, which causes serious fractures within the group.

Eventually Dolohov and Rosier are arrested for breaking the statute of secrecy. Tom attempts to break them out of Azkaban through soul casting despite Hermione warning him it’s an obvious trap.

The dementors nearly killed him.

Hermione feels something is wrong, finds his body lying unconscious inside a rune circle, hides him from Aurors, then literally breaks into Azkaban herself to save his soul from receiving the Dementor’s Kiss.

She causes absolute chaos during the escape and helps Tom free Dolohov while leaving Rosier behind because she believes Rosier can still legally clear his name in the future.

Afterward, Hermione finally chooses Tom completely over Gaspard.

She asks Tom to swear an Unbreakable Vow:

* Never cheat on her
* Never harm the people she loves
* Stop making horcruxes

Tom agrees, but only if he’s allowed to create 1 final horcrux and Hermione agrees to create one too if she ever kills someone.

Tom proposes to Hermione, and later she asks him for a child.

Near the end, Dolohov, Walburga, and Abraxas kidnap Hermione during the night she becomes Minister of Magic. They try killing her inside Gringotts.

Hermione survives using the invisibility cloak, advanced dueling magic, and pure chaos.

Tom arrives with Dumbledore’s help riding a dragon after slaughtering multiple people involved in the kidnapping.

During the fight, Hermione is hit with Avada Kedavra, but her enchanted engagement ring rebounds the curse and kills the goblin caster instead.

Because she technically caused a death, she finally creates her own horcrux.

Both Hermione and Tom use their wedding rings as horcruxes.

Hermione later prevents Tom from killing Walburga and Abraxas because she’s terrified changing history too drastically will affect the future people she knows.

Tom compromises by sawing off Abraxas’ arm instead.

At the end, Hermione becomes genuinely happy with this altered version of Tom. She becomes Minister of Magic, owns businesses, publishes magical research, and builds a future with him instead of against him.

The final reveal returns to Madame Violette, who is revealed to actually be Aikaterine herself from the soulmate myth.

She appears to Abraxas at the end, clearly setting up whatever emotional disaster fic 2 is about to become.

Great story, I really enjoyed the chemistry between them and morally grey characters are always my thing.🫢 But the ending got me thinking about the future in the new timeline, I'm not sure how it would work..So I guess I'll need to read the sequel as well?🤷🏻‍♀️
Anyway, it was a great addition to my fanfiction obsession. 🖤
