About the author
Rob Davis
1 book4 followersI’m Rob Davis, an HGV mechanic from Gloucestershire who somehow ended up becoming a blogger and published author.
I started The Plain and Simple Guy in 2021 because I had too much going on in my head and needed somewhere to put it. There was no grand plan. I just wrote honestly about life, mental health, music, work, grief and whatever else happened to be on my mind. More than 500 posts later, I’m still doing it.
Midnight is my first novel. It’s a dark erotic romance about Jack and Celeste, two stubborn people pulled into something intense, complicated and far deeper than either expected. There’s sex, power and control, but beneath all of that, it’s about trust, vulnerability and allowing someone to see the parts of you that you usually keep hidden.
I don’t have a polished story about always dreaming of becoming an author. I’m just a normal bloke who fixes trucks for a living, thinks far too much, and discovered that writing helps. I write the way I speak... honestly, sometimes bluntly, and usually with a little more swearing than intended.

Midnight is an engaging read with a strong atmosphere and enough momentum to keep you turning the pages. Rob Davis creates characters who feel involved in their own story rather than simply being moved from one plot point to the next, and the relationships add real tension to the book.
The story has mature themes, but what worked best for me was the way the author built intrigue and kept the narrative moving. There is a confident voice behind the writing, and the book knows what sort of experience it wants to give the reader.
A well-written, entertaining read that I would recommend to readers looking for something more adult, character-driven and immersive.
The Character switch from chapter to chapter is a compelling way of story telling. Well done Rob!
