This book was ok overall. The plotline was pretty standard for this genre. Had a slight of twist with the h & h having previously been married (but this has been done before and better).

The chemistry was ok, but not hot although one or two of the sex scenes were pretty hot.

I enjoyed this book, but it did have a couple of clangers for me.

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD!!
First, I understood Kate's reasoning for divorcing him, but didn't really see why she changed her mind other than the fact they had sex. Then of course the ending was very standard Mills & Boon ending, with what I thought was the 'easy' solution for the writer.

Second clanger for me and this really was the reason I only gave it a 3, was the language used was totally ummmmm spinsterish???? I mean when Jack got shot, Kate's words were "Oh my dear"... I mean honestly who says that? This was of course towards the end of the book and the phrase which sticks in my mind, but these little language clangers happened throughout the book which really spoilt it for me.

In all I think if you like Silhoette romantic suspense, then this will be right up your alley. If you are looking for something a bit more grittier then stay away.

Intriguing suspense.

The trope is familiar. Beautiful independent woman is in a desperate situation and needs the help of a super capable, handsome CIA type who has all the skills and experience needed to keep her safe. The difference is, the hero is her ex husband, whom she divorced because she couldn't live with his absences and the dangers of his job. There is plenty of suspense, and you didn't trust the authorities because you didn't know who the good guys were. The characters were likeable and the action believable. I could only give it four stars, though, because there were glaring mistakes in detail, the kind that slow me down and drive me nuts. For example, they were driving from Texas toward New Mexico, which I know means they're heading West, but the sun is coming up straight ahead, shining in their eyes. Part of my brain is reading ahead with the action, while part of my brain is stuck back there trying to figure out how the sun can be in their eyes. Don't they have editors who should catch those things?

Plot was hard to get into

It was really so far fetched and female characters were all over the place personality wise. I continued reading to see how it would be wrapped up. Even that was hard to believe. The intimate relations were too graphic and not needed, were a detractor to The story.

The heroine drove me nuts. She was TSTL. For instance, people are trying to kill her, she's on the run, but when she finds out that they stole her family business, she wants to march in there and give them a piece of her mind. Yeah, great idea--go confront the people who want you dead with nothing more than anger as a weapon!

Or when her ex-hubby tells her to get down on the floor of the car, and she grouses about it. Ummm...lady, did you forget that people are trying to KILL you? Or that your ex is an federal agent who specializes in surviving dangerous situations? And that he's trying to protect your life? If he says get down, you hit the deck pronto, no questions asked!

An easy light mystery/romance. Kate and her sister, import company owners, are on the run for their lives. Kate calls on her ex husband, a cia operative, to help them. It followed an expected plot line, but I enjoyed the unwinding of the story including kates and her sisters back story. Grey seems a little too unreal, but a good romance hero. He outwits the bad guys, is a great lover, is kind and gentle to an abused woman. A good romance to past the time.

(Romance/Mystery 2009) Kate Mahaffey finds herself being threatened by bad guys - so luckily she has an ex-husband who just happens to be a CIA operative to rush in and rescue her and her sister. Some chase scenes, a couple of sex scenes, and occasional tense situations make this a quick and easy read.

Random paragraph breaks during dialogue made this book rather hard to follow. Also, random capitalization ("a well-known drug Lord"?) and lapses from past into present tense distracted me from the story.

I have read this book a few times. Its a really great "brain candy" book. Not much too it, lots of fluff and a little suspense.
