I just read a book about the OW,well kinda…not really… I know I know…. my heart broke for her! She was such a doormat and just took the scraps the H gave her. She loved him so much but he made choices that I’d never forgive…..
He marries OW for business merger only. It’s just paper. They are never intimate and he only wants the h but they have to do public appearances and family dinners😡Our poor h is made out to be the mistress and is treated terribly for YEARs….they didn’t know that the h was with him for 2 years before the marriage deal…everyone sucked here!! If my man marries another woman for his company he would not be my man anymore!!! Why she stayed his secret I have no idea. It takes her being attacked and him not answering her calls for her to finally wake up. Oh I forgot her brother is actually the only one I liked! He got her out of there and they disappeared so she could heal. He was the ONLY good one…

He really did love her
I started this book and I immediately saw that she was the other woman and I started to close it down. He was married to another woman and was keeping her as his mistress.I had my outrage writing a review before I even read the book. I do not like to not finish a book unless its really, really bad. Sometimes I just skim it because I can read very very fast. But this book kept my attention. I really liked the heroine. I wasn't sure about him but I was leaning towards disliking him intensely. really intensely. But then certain things became clear. It was never a real marriage. At one point he says to Camille, his contract wife, we never shared a bed, A life or even a real conversation. It was a contract only. I was so relieved. Yes it was still cheating but it had a caveat. I can live with that. In certain cases. As long as the contracted wife is despicable, cold hearted and Not the heroine of the story. I loved how he tore everything down to earn her back. Even though he had no idea where she was. He was totally celibate and so was she. He even destroyed his own Mother pretty much. She was vile anyway. The only thing that would have made it better was a baby! But alas it wasn't to be. But I still loved it.

The fmc is his employee and she has enough..become a ghost identy wise and running away. He spends millions and a year trying to track her down and changing his life for her.

Camille knows about her and doesn’t care. She thinks Evie is a phase that Lance will grow tired of.
Lance can’t tell her he’s working behind the scenes to separate his fortune from Camille so he can be with Evie.
Evie is attacked walking home. She fights off the attacker and runs to the police. When she gives her name and where she lives they were skeptical. They know she’s the mistress. In their mind a woman like her probably has many “arrangements” and this was a disagreement over compensation.

Adorable…
Evie has been with him for almost a decade, even when he married for a merger. He never loved the wife, Camille, and he didn’t spend any time with her. It doesn’t address it but I got the impression that they didn’t consummate the marriage. He loves Evie and he has no interest in Camille.
The final straw is the night Evie is assaulted and she tries to call him 32 times. She’s at the police station and the detectives are actually harassing her. Thirty-Two Calls was about 29-year-old Evangeline "Evie" Foster, an analyst in the Acquisition Department of Rothwood Industries, and 38-year-old Lance Rothwood, the owner and CEO of Rothwood Industries.
Evie and Lance had maintained a somewhat secret relationship for nine years, mainly because he was married to Camille Deacon-Rothwood. Please understand...there was NO cheating in this book, even though he was married to another woman.
What Evie didn't know, and Lance couldn't tell her, was that he was busy working towards extracting himself from his marriage and the clutches of his overbearing mother, so he could be with her. But the night she needed him the most, the night she had been assaulted on her way home from work, Lance never answered her calls...her thirty-two calls. The police had treated the assault as if she had changed her mind during a hookup with her assailant. The only person who had been on her side was her brother. The following morning, she learned from the news that Lance's father-in-law had suffered a massive heart attack, and he had chosen to stay by the side of his wife rather than find out what her calls had been about. So she made a decision with her brother: once things had died down in the media regarding Lance's family, she and her brother would disappear.
It was 3 days before she saw Lance again. It took another five weeks before Van and Evie could put their plan into motion. In that time, Evie slowly yet meticulously transferred her workload to junior analysts, and Van worked to remove their digital footprints so that, once they left, Lance would never be able to find them.
It took 4 days before Lance realized Evie was gone. Even his best head of security and team could not locate Evie and her brother. The only things they could discover were what happened to her at the police station, how his mother had sought Evie out and berated her, and how his wife had treated Evie at every turn. It took him over a year to finally locate her, and when he did, it was by pure happenstance.
Unlike many of the books I have read and reviews over the past several weeks, this story was actually worth reading. The angst was high, the drama never-ending, and the emotional rollercoaster had a decent amount of twists and turns. The push-pull between the two main characters was enjoyable to read about, and the conflict was worth the ink it was written in.
The two main characters were well-developed and mature, with a lot of room for growth...and boy did they both endure some hard-pressed growth. It was one of the better grovels I've read in a very long time.
I gave this a four-star rating because it deserved it. I would have given it a higher rating, but there were a few things that needed some tweaking before I could do that. Still, it was a very good story.

A Powerful And Utterly Romantic Love Story!
I enjoyed every word of this novel. A new author and a book I ran across purely by accident. But I have just spent 3 hours devouring this story. The power of love that transcends, heals and forgives. That brings lost souls together despite the obstacles and outside forces that try to keep them apart. The kind of emotion that comes along once in a lifetime and makes you want to hold onto in spite of everything.
Everyone has their preference in the types of stories that they read, enjoy and find entertainment in. But for me this was a solid blissful 10! 🌟🌟🌟👏👏👏💕💕💕

In between heavier books or if I’m in a slump I will read short books - usually the betrayal/grovel trope - to read for fun. This author is new to me but I will be reading more of her work. This is a short novella length story that has the perfect amount of angst and the heroine chooses herself before she takes back the hero. I enjoyed it and will be reading more by this author. CW the heroine is the H’s mistress before she leaves him.

Love this plot. It's creative, original and full of emotions. Ms. Emmanuel shows a lot of talent in Thirty Two Calls from the beginning to the end.
Each character during the book shows growth and change. I hope some day she chooses to write a story around Van. In the meantime she I will definitely read more of her books.

Powerful story
Lance and Evie have a convoluted relationship. She is his not so secret mistress. He married for legacy and corporate expectations leaving the woman he loved to be a shadow in his life for almost a decade. When she disappeared, he realized the damage he caused.

Someone said in their review that this book reads like AI, and suddenly, it just… clicked.
This book is extremely description dense and lacks any real dialogue. I noticed a lot of errors but swept it under the rug. Most, if not all, of the writing sounded unnatural. I can’t imagine a human writing this and thinking, “Yup. This sounds totally natural and normal.”
I was planning on pushing through because I’ve made a vow to stop DNFing books this year; until I came on Goodreads. I’m not making any accusatory statements, but it is suspicious that the “author” has 37 books—and only started releasing them this year.
You know where I’m getting at.
Allegedly.
Just a note to anyone reading this and thinking to put a book plot into AI and make them write a book; don’t. It’s noticeable, and quite frankly, disgusting. That’s the only word I can think of to describe doing such a thing.

I made it 52% into this book before I DNF’d because the premise was honestly stronger than the execution.
The setup? Brutal. Evangeline has spent nine years as billionaire Lance Rothwood’s not-so-secret mistress while he stays trapped in a political marriage. Then one night she’s almost assaulted walking home. Shaken, injured, humiliated at the police station, and desperate for comfort, she calls Lance.
Thirty-two times.
He answers none of them.
That part? DEVASTATING. The idea of repeatedly calling the person you love most during the worst moment of your life only to realize, call by call, that you are never going to come first to them? Excellent angst. No notes.
And honestly, I was fully seated for the fallout. She cuts him off, wipes her digital footprint, disappears with help from her hacker-genius brother, and leaves Lance scrambling to realize he’s destroyed the best thing in his life. Amazing setup for a grovel romance.
Unfortunately… the grovel kind of collapsed for me the second he found her.
Because this man finally tracks her down looking all tired and miserable and emotionally constipated, and her immediate instinct is to comfort HIM.
Ma’am.
This man ignored THIRTY-TWO CALLS after you were assaulted. He never even asked what happened before launching into excuses about appearances and family obligations. And after disappearing from his life entirely, your first reaction upon reunion is to hug him because he looks sad and hasn’t shaved properly?
Absolutely not. Straight to romance jail.
That was the moment the emotional tension just deflated for me. I needed rage. I needed consequences. I needed him suffering while she stayed cold long enough for the payoff to feel earned. Instead it felt like the book skipped directly from heartbreak to reconciliation mode without enough healing in between.
And maybe the remaining 48% is incredible. Maybe he grovels magnificently. Maybe there are tears and knife fights and emotional devastation or at least strongly worded letters to his manager. But once she folded that quickly, I realized I no longer cared enough to keep reading.
Still, I’ll give the book credit where it’s due: “Thirty-two unanswered calls” is an insanely strong premise for an angst romance. That concept alone carried me halfway through the book.
I mean honestly I wouldn't have called that many times myself.
I just needed the reunion to hit harder than:
“you look sad… here’s a hug.”

And maybe the remaining 48% is incredible. Maybe he grovels magnificently. Maybe there are tears and knife fights and emotional devastation or at least strongly worded letters to his manager. But once she folded that quickly, I realized I no longer cared enough to keep reading.
Still, I’ll give the book credit where it’s due: “Thirty-two unanswered calls” is an insanely strong premise for an angst romance. That concept alone carried me halfway through the book.
I mean honestly I wouldn't have called that many times myself.
I just needed the reunion to hit harder than:
“you look sad… here’s a hug.”

He married another woman after two years with the heroine, a proper lady to benefit his billionaire business. There’s no way he needed it for some noble reason, that is, to save thousands of sick children, or because his evil dad kept his sick lil brother prisoner, no it was plain selfish greed.
So, he tells the heroine is temporary, meaning sooner or later he’s going to divorce his wife and be openly with her .
And the heroine, a young idiot ahem naive woman, accepts to be his hidden mistress.
Until one evening she’s assaulted and almost raped and she calls him but he doesn’t answer.
Because his father in law had an heart attack and he is with his family.
So she decides to leave him secretly, with the help of her brother.
When she leaves him the hero goes mad and suddenly is able to : secure his business, dump his evil mother and divorce his wife.
So it’s apparent that he was never under duress, he was always selfish and complacent.
IMO the heroine is a doormat, pathetic and stupid.
The hero treated her as his fuck buddy, paying for her condo and pretending not to know her while she had to put up with his wife’s cruelty every time they met.
And well, who can’t sympathize with the wife.
One year later he finds her and he turns into a doormat himself but there’s no need, because the heroine basically takes him back without even an apology.
So where’s the growth here.
Because we understand she was young and naive and she believed his lies, but when she decides that enough is enough she should have really cut him forever.
But no, she’s delighted that he divorced his wife and secured his money, no matter if he treated her like cum dumpster for ten years.
No matter if he married another woman when he was already with her for two years.
I really can’t.
I just gave two stars because the marriage of hero and his wife was never physical, it was really a merger, but I didn’t like that the heroine stayed and became the ow.
She should have walked away and moved on since he wasn’t willing to give up anything for her.
Possibly it’s also AI generated, or maybe written with a massive use of ai.

This book has decent enough angst but very little depth. I do like that so far it’s the MMC’s POV but other than that next to nothing actually happens. The FMC was assaulted in an alley and when she couldn’t reach the MMC after a ridiculous amount of calls she decided she was done.
There is absolutely every reason to dump him in her sob story but the book is just so surface level that I’m left thinking why did she stay so long to begin with. Unless you’re going to show there “love” on page all the reader can do is assume that it’s about time she left him. But the author only tells us that their love and commitment and support was so great that the FMC allowed herself to be the mistress for so long because of it. We don’t see how he convinced her to stay with him once he married the OW/legal wife, we don’t know if they ever slept together or even in the same room, we don’t see why they didn’t just live apart while he had very strict scheduled days with the FMC in an apartment the MMC bought and gave her legally. That’s really all we see.
The decent angst is all about the current hurt and the dismal of all the built up resentment. However, once the FMC disappears the author goes on and on about the MMC “burning down” his family’s legacy. But that isn’t actually true. The MMC cut off his mother from the money and influence of his name, he got his divorce, but other than gaining complete control of his company away from the board, he still has everything that he did before. Still has the same job as CEO. Still has the money. Still has his reputation and his power.
So what did he burn down exactly??
Nothing.
His mother still lives in her estate and gets a wealthy persons level of an “allowance”. His now ex wife OW was given a generous payoff in the divorce. And his situation never changed.
So I find it straight garbage at this point. Nothing was truly lost except a year of having his thumb on the FMC’s back like he had all those years before the incident. And they are now back to living together with ZERO on page grovel other than a few I’m sorry’s and tears.
So no comeuppance for anyone. I haven’t finished it but so far it’s a waste of time for me. Good luck.

Evie and Lance
I confess that I did not liked when I realised who abd what Evie was to Lance. Yes, he did not have the normal marriage but there was still the moral of it all.
Evie had waited for Lance for 9 years, 7 of those he had been married to someone else. However, when she needed him the most he decided to ignore 32 calls from her to protect himself and his company that was going through a crisis and with that she finally realised we're she stood.
It was only when she disappeared that he finally realised what he had done. Highly recommended

I do not usually read this type of romance. Cheating is cheating. If you pledge a vow, keep it. Given that, the story is one of loss and redemption. Evie worked for Lance’s company for 9 years while being his mistress. But, when she needs him after an assault, he can’t be found. She leaves with her brother and disappears. Lance has to change and become a better man. Evie grows a backbone and puts herself first. He needs her much more than she needs him.

Too much
I wished there had been an epilogue. It just ended when she walked into boardroom. I think that the MFC just asked for toomuch from the MMC cause she knew what he was like so I kind of think it was a form of revenge for her so called 9 years of being in the background but she could've left at any time and she didn't. I don't think I'll be reading anymore books by this author

I loved this book so much, I almost didn't want it to end. I've read many romance novels of men groveling to the woman they loved but Lance took it to a whole differently level willing to burn down his empire for the woman he loved. And I couldn't be more prouder of Evangeline for what she endured for years with Lance but she finally found the peace she deserved. Hopefully we will see a series for Lance friend Richard and Evie brother Van.
I loved this book so much, I almost didn't want it to end. glad it was short
The story itself is not bad but there isn’t really much drama. There is not any character building, or background information on the couple. Basically she is the other woman, regardless of the circumstances of the marriage, and she doesn’t like the whispers and rumors, runs away, he finally divorced the wife and finds her and they live HEA in another country. Blah.

Who would have thought you could read a fairy tale about a mistress? Superbly written, intensely engaging, thoroughly rapturous with an incredible ending. The sweet, good natured heroine, the blinding, ruthless billionaire and the quest for reconciliation. I will re-read this again some day. Loved it.

I don't condone the start but hey, it's fiction right?! and I found myself enjoying the book without any judgement.
It's sweet and powerful.
