Forbidden Romance
This is the first book in the Shotgun Saints MC: King of the Road and it was a page turner full of secrets and betrayal. Thunder and Presley have been having a relationship shrouded in secrecy but Presley has had enough of that. The problem is that Presley’s dad is the President of the club and everyone knows within the club that she is off limits. Just tell that to Thunder and Presley’s hearts though.
There was so much that went into this story and this author always brings the best in her MC romance books. This was an awesome book and I cannot wait for the next to come in this series.

THUNDER is supposed to be the beginning of a new series, at it is… a little. Fair warning, Presley and Thunder don’t have the depth of history if you don’t read the prequel. Otherwise, it feels like you walked into the room and everybody stops talking. Awkward. While this is definitely a MC book, it is also strongly about familial ties. First off, the whole lot of them need some healthy emotional outlets. Just sayin’, when the 9-year-old is speaking all the truths, it’s time to reevaluate how you are doing things. The number of misunderstandings throughout can be a bit overwhelming, but the book would not be the same without it. The degrees of lies are also impressive, and they both bind and break everyone and it left me breathless. That was the hardest part for me, being heartbreakingly breathless. But it is the humanity, those perfectly imperfect characters, flowing through the words that catapults this story straight into your heart. Recommended to readers that don’t just want the spice, but the love surrounding it.

This was a fast paced series opener and a gripping romance troubled by secrets, lies, betrayal and vengeance. Thunder and Presley have so much family drama to deal with and I was rooting hard for them to finally get their HEA. Definitely read the prequel to this series to get the back story for this one but you'll find yourself madly flipping pages when you do dive in. The chemistry and love between them made this feel like a high stakes romance with everything out to challenge them. Good fun!

I adored reading this forbidden, possessive love story. Thunder is one heck of a main character. I loved his determination and resilience. And I love how dedicated he is to claiming his woman again. Awesome and interesting storyline. This is a great story.

THUNDER is the first instalment in Elizabeth Knox’s contemporary, adult SHOTGUN SAINTS MC: KINGS OF THE ROAD erotic, cowboy, MC, romance series, a spin off set in the author’s SHOTGUN SAINTS world, which in turn is set in the Reaper’s Rejects Worlds. This is SAA Thunder, and twenty-two year old, cattle breeder Presley Hutchins Lyle’s story line. THUNDER should not be read as a stand alone, it is recommended to read Presley’s novella, found in the SHOTGUN SAINTS MC: The Complete Series boxset, as well as PHANTOM book three. If you have not read either story line, there may be spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Presley and Thunder) THUNDER follows in the aftermath of an attack on the Shotgun Saints MC. Thunder is in recovery with bullet wounds inflicted months before, while Presley struggles to find a place with the family that knew nothing about her existence. Working for the Shotgun Saints MC cattle breeding program, Presley finds herself on the outside looking in but for one man who is struggling to accept he is no longer able to do his duties to the club . An organization known as The Firm is taking aim, and the Shotgun Saints MC may be facing their most dangerous foe to date. Meanwhile, Presley and Thunder’s relationship crosses the line of no return, and with it, incurs the wrath of the man in charge.
The world building focuses on animal husbandry, the rejection by family for a perceived betrayal, and the protection of the members and their family of the Shotgun Saints MC. We are witness to rebuff of an innocent woman caught in the crossfire between family members, and the search for a woman, everyone knows is dead and buried. The original conflicts continue into the new spin off, conflicts that will pit the members against a foe they can not take down.
The relationship between Thunder and Presley is one of the forbidden. Presley is the youngest daughter of MC president Phantom, and as such, is off limits to the members of the MC. Thunder is a single father whose attraction to Presley has been stifled by a possible career ending injury but Thunder is determined to work-through the pain and humiliation as watches from the sidelines as the woman he loves suffers at the hands of the people who refuse to accept her existence. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is another large ensemble cast of familiar, colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we met in the original SHOTGUN SAINTS MC series including president Phantom and his wife Marlena, road captain Banshee and Bex, Shadow and Grace, Rogue and Hadley, Phantom’s son and Presley’s half-brother Shiver (Reaper’s Rejects MC), as well as Spur and Dakota, and Thunder’s daughter Raine.

This is not a standalone.
If you’re picking up Thunder without having read the rest of the Shotgun Saints MC series, stop and go back first. A lot of what happens here depends on the history, secrets, and relationships already established in the earlier books.
There is also a novella in the Shotgun Saints MC boxed set that leads directly into this story, and I definitely think it helps to read that first too.
At the heart of this book is one big theme:
Secrets hurt families.
And sometimes the sins of the fathers are very good at finding their way down to the next generation.
Thunder and Presley were already together in the novella, but after certain truths came to light, Presley ended the relationship. The fallout reaches much further than just the two of them.
Grace and Dakota are no longer speaking to Presley, and that loss absolutely guts her. For the first time in her life, she had found a real family and women she thought of as sisters.
Now those relationships are broken.
Thunder, meanwhile, has problems of his own.
After being shot in the hip, he is struggling with the loss of the identity he built around being useful to the club. If he is no longer the man Phantom sends into battle, no longer the weapon he used to be, then who is he supposed to be now?
That part of his story worked really well for me.
But one thing Thunder is absolutely not willing to give up on is Presley.
She may have decided to step away from their relationship, but Thunder is not interested in accepting that as permanent. He is determined to make things right and prove that he is not going anywhere, no matter how long it takes.
Relationship-wise, the ending gives us something satisfying. Presley and Thunder find their way back to each other.
But everything else?
Very much not resolved.
The danger surrounding the silver trucks is still there. The secrets everyone is trying to protect are still hanging over the family. Nothing has really been settled, and there is a strong sense that the worst of it may still be coming.
So yes, Thunder and Presley get their moment.
But the larger story is far from over.
And that cliffhanger absolutely makes sure you know it.

Thunder is the Sergeant at Arms for the Shotgun Saints MC. He was shot protecting women and children from an intruder. Presley is the youngest daughter of Phantom who is the President of the Shotgun Saints MC. Before the incident Thunder and Presley were meeting up for sex in College Station where Presley was going to school. Presley gets a call from her sister Grace telling her that her mom and Thunder were shot. Her mom is going to make it but they aren’t sure if Thunder will. Presley drives the three hour drive to the hospital and sneaks in to see Thunder. Presley has two sisters and a brother who are older than her and their mother has been missing for two years. Thunder was one of the MC who buried Jolene after Marlena killed her in self defense. Presley is just now getting to know her half siblings and she is getting accepted by Grace, Dakota and Shiver. At the hospital she gets a text from Dakota to meet up to go visit her mom. Outside the room they hear Marlena talking about killing Jolene and it being covered up. Now Presley is pushed out again by Grace and Dakota. Thunder and Presley don’t want anyone to know about their romance. Presley is afraid of breaking her family up even more. Thunder ends up getting a tattoo of a rattlesnake on his neck after Presley put a halt on their relationship. When Presley can’t stay away from Thunder anymore she decides that she wants a tattoo of a rattlesnake and a Property of Thunder on her back. Thunder and Presley are not as careful as they used to be. One day in the barn they are kissing and Thunder pulls up Presley’s shirt which shows her tattoo. They hear a noise behind them and there is Phantom watching his youngest daughter and his Sergeant at Arms kissing. He saw the Property of Thunder tattoo on Presley’s back. What will happen to Thunder and Presley? Will Phantom hurt either one? Will Thunder and Presley be able to love each other out in the open now? Will Phantom ever forgive them? Will Thunder, Presley and Raine (Thunder’s nine year old daughter) find a new life together?

If you're diving into Thunder, do yourself a favor and read Presley's story in the box set first. It's absolutely essential to getting the full impact of everything that unfolds here. After reading her story, I was more than ready to jump into Thunder's, especially knowing the two-year-long secret that has been hanging over this family was finally going to come to light. And wow... I needed some time to process it all once the truth was revealed.
One of the hardest parts was watching the fallout between the sisters. From Dakota's story onward, we saw how difficult it was for Grace and Dakota to accept Presley into the family, but eventually they became loving sisters. Seeing that bond shattered when old wounds resurfaced was heartbreaking. Presley carries the face of a killer, and her sisters struggled to separate the past from the woman standing in front of them. Their reactions felt real, messy, and emotional, making those scenes hit even harder.
I also loved getting to see where the unusual, not-quite-a-relationship relationship between Thunder and Presley actually began. Their first meeting in a bar near her college, hours away from the ranch, added so much depth to what we already knew. This story fills in what happened before Thunder's book while also moving the timeline forward, giving readers both the missing pieces and the next chapter of their journey.
As if the emotional family drama wasn't enough, we also got some wonderful family milestones. Rogue and Hadley's wedding was everything I hoped for, and the arrival of not one but two new Saint babies brought some much-needed joy to balance out the heavier moments.
And then there are the villains. The Firm continues to make life difficult for the Saints, creating danger and tension that stretches beyond this book. The fallout is clearly far from over, and the groundwork being laid has me incredibly excited for Blaze's story next.

Thunder and Presley’s future is finally revealed!
After reading Presley, the prequel novella of this book, I couldn’t wait to see what Thunder’s plans were in order to win back the woman that steadily and unexpectedly stole his heart. The plot was amazingly fast-pacing, full of action, a hint of future danger I can’t wait to see how the MC family will deal with and most importantly the hard journey of a broken family finding a way to amend what’s broken and create something new and honest. The past is there, the secrets devastating and brutal, as well as the choices that need to be made. Presley found herself in the middle of the storm she didn’t have a say to, Thunder was part of what destroyed her place in the family, she was basically the one taking the heat of the anger that should have been aimed elsewhere, but she didn’t break. Thunder was there, even if she tried to push him away. But deciding to be together in secret in order not to rock the already rocking boat. That was Presley’s call. I loved how Thunder was with her, how much he respected her decisions even if he knew how much they could cost him. She came first for him and that’s it. It was not a easy story to read. I would have loved to see a bit more about Marlena and her relationship with Presley after everything detonated as well as how she was treated in the meantime by everyone in the family - we only get to see a glimpse by the end, when decisions on how to move forward were made and the mending had started. But that is a detail that didn’t steal much from the main story. So, 4.5 stars!

I enjoyed this one, but at the same time, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a little bit of filler to set up the new Kings of the Road series. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I think I was hoping for a little more from the story and a stronger emotional payoff.
I did love Thunder’s determination to win over Presley. The man was absolutely gone for her, and his whole “I let her go once. I never told her I'd give her up.” attitude was exactly what she needed.
But Presley’s family drama?
Her dad drove me absolutely insane. I hated how selfish he was and how he managed to make everything about himself.
This quote pretty much sums up why I was so frustrated with him…
“Your secret cost me my whole family. It cost me my sisters looking at me like I killed their mother. I was a stranger who didn’t even go to supper because I was avoiding everything. I was talking to Mitch's ashes because there wasn't a living soul who'd have me. Your secret did that. And you've got the nerve to stand in this yard and be destroyed because I didn't tell you I'm happy?”
Overall, I liked Thunder and Presley together, and I enjoyed the story, but I definitely wanted more. It felt like the book was doing a lot of groundwork for what’s coming next rather than giving me the full story I was hoping for.
Still an enjoyable read, and I’m definitely curious about where the series goes from here.

A Jolene is always causing trouble!
This is book one in the spin off series Kings of the Road by Elizabeth Knox. I liked reading the book overall, but the beginning was a bit too poetic in the writing style for me. I was glad when that writing style gave way to just the conversational tone. There is big trouble here with the Shotgun Saints: one they were attacked by The Firm and two, there are some old lies resurfacing from the MC that should have stayed hidden.
In this book: we have Thunder, the sergeant at arms, who was shot during the attack. Not only is Thunder recovering physically, but also mentally from not being able to stop the assault. Thunder just cannot stop working to heal his hip -leg injuries. The lead female is Presley, Phantom’s youngest daughter. She is a beautiful young woman and a has a talent for animals on the ranch. Unfortunately Presley is unfairly taking the brunt of blame for Phatom’s actions as a younger man and her mom’s Marlena’s actions. As a refresh, Phantom’s children are Shiver (male), Grace, and Dakota (all Jolene’s), Presley and Cal (Marlena’s). The book says many times the Presley looks just like her mom. Let just say clearly that Presley is not to blame.
There is a happy for now ending as the next book has The Firm still wanting to destroy the MC. I am theorizing that the MC may have a couple other enemies wanting to cause some destruction. Notable mention is Presley’s brother Shiver and thank goodness he has a level head on him. Read On!

If the rest of this series is as good as this book it is going to be phenomenal. If you have read the previous books in relation to these characters you will know some of the back story so it is no surprise when everything in Presley’s life blows up and, boy oh boy, does it blow up. Presley has so much family drama to deal with and Thunder is recovering from an injury but when these two come together there is no stopping the fireworks and strong chemistry between them but when a truth is revealed it seems as though their relationship is over before it has a chance to start. There are a lot of very strong and powerful emotions in this book especially in relation to Presley’s family but when her dad finds out what is happening between Presley and Thunder his reaction is as expected although he is not very understanding considering his other two daughters are also with members of the Shotgun Saints MC. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat constantly with the anticipation of what was to come and the build up of all the secrets possibly being exposed but as the family now know the truth about Jolene we can only hope that the drama will settle for a while. I loved this book and I am so excited to see what Ms Knox brings us next.

Thunder is the first book in a new series by Elizabeth Knox called Shotgun Saints MC Kings of the Road. This is the story of Thunder and Presley. Thunder is the Sergeant At Arms (SAA) for the Shotgun Saints MC. He is a single father and very attracted to Presley. He is also recovering from being shot protecting the club. He is having mobility issues since the surgeon had to leave some bullet fragments in his hip. Thunder is frustrated by having to use a cane and feels that he can't perform his duties as SAA for the club while recovering. Presley is the youngest daughter of MC president Phantom, and as such, is off limits to the members of the MC. That doesn't stop Presley and Thunder from sneaking around. Their attraction is that strong. Presley has ended their relationship because she is sick of keeping secrets from her family. Her mind is clear but her heart still wants Thunder. And Thunder let her go once, he isn't planning on every doing it again. This is their story. The book is written well and is easy to read. There is a lot of action, drama, secrets and lies. The book has a happy for now ending. The story will continue on in the next book in the series and I look forward to reading the next one. I enjoyed this book.

Thunder is the kind of romance that grabs hold from the first page and never lets go. What I loved most was that the story begins after the heartbreak, forcing Thunder and Presley to deal with the fallout of choices, secrets, and feelings that never really went away. Their chemistry is undeniable, but it’s the emotional intensity behind it that makes this book stand out.
Thunder is impossible not to root for. Injured, stubborn, and completely devoted, he never stops fighting for the woman he loves. I could not be happier to be back at the Sharp Shooter Ranch in Texas. The Shotgun Saints MC guys are back with the new series and it's not to be missed!
It's starting with Thunder and Presley and their very secret relationship, which has been touched on in the novella closing the Shotgun Saints MC series.

He is the older sergeant in arms of her father‘s MC. They didn’t plan on starting anything, but once they started, they couldn’t stop. Secrets and lies almost derailed them, and has left them trying to make sense of the aftermath. This is the first in a spinoff series by the author however, the history in the first series is important to this story and while there is a vague recap, I don’t think it’s enough to really understand what is going on and you really need to read that series 1st not only are the characters from the first series still major players in this one where this story picks up is the aftermath of how that series ended so start there. You will get introduced to both characters in that series. Learn their history, which makes it important for starting this one. I always enjoy this author’s characters. She does such a good job in laying them out and making them unique even within a series. These two are no different on paper. They shouldn’t work, but they do. He’s the darkness. She’s his light and together their chemistry is ignitable.

Troubled and dissatisfied
I really enjoyed most of the characters in this series. I am not a fan of Marlena and Phantom. I agree Presley was a victim in everything she did not tell her mom to kill and lie about Jolene. But I am not okay with Dakota and Grace starting to accept Marlena again. Not only did she kill their mother but she pretended Jolene abandoned them and then she started to take her place when she knew Jolene was lying in an unmarked grave. I’m sorry but that can’t be forgiven. Jolene lost after Phantom moved on to a younger woman but that is not a good reason for her to lie in an unmarked grave where no one will ever pay their respects. She raised her children with love and now she won’t get to meet her grand children. I understand them covering things with detective but they don’t have to ever accept Marlena, she has to pay in some form what she did. As for Phantom, I really don’t care for him. He could have taken better decisions. The epilogue wasn’t satisfying.

They have a connection but they shouldn't be together for multiple reasons. Thunder being part of her father's club along with their age gap is part of what is keeping them apart. When the secret came out Presley told Thunder they could no longer be together because she didn't one more thing to get in the way of her reconciling with her sisters. They can no longer deny their connection and they give in to it. The same time Presley finally starts to make the relationship with her sister the truth about her relationship with Thunder comes to light. Will Presley and Thunder finally be together or will her need to be with her family get in the way of their relationship. Add in the troubles with the MC can they ever be happy?.

Very compelling start to a new series by Ms. Knox. It’s a cowboy/MC romance set around Thunder and the woman he loves, Presley. Recent incidents cause Presley to break things off, even though doing so shatters her heart. But Thunder, the Shotgun Saints MC’s Sergeant-at-Arms, doesn’t give up easily. He has vowed to convince her they belong together, no matter what it takes or what consequences they must endure. Having both lost so much up to this point, Thunder certainly has an uphill battle on his hands.
This is a fantastic, engaging read that held my attention from start to finish. My only regret is that I didn't know there was a prequel; had I realized, I definitely would have read it first, as I felt a little lost at the very beginning. However, I was quickly able to fill in the blanks and catch up. It’s a gripping story, and realizing I missed the starting piece is the only reason I docked it slightly to 4 stars. Otherwise, it's a stellar read, and I'm already looking forward to book 2!

I absolutely love this cast of characters, and to be able to revisit them within a new series has been the highlight of the day it took me to read this.
We get launched pretty much where Presley's book left off; and one thing us for sure, Thunder and Presley's relationship is definitely not over. No matter what Presley tries to tell herself.
The writing is absolutely brilliant. There is just something about Elizabeth Knox's writing that makes her books come alive; and it's the same with this one. Whilst reading, I found my own emotions mirroring the characters. It's what makes this series magical, and what kept me hooked. The ranch, the family, the MC. The sense of belonging that you get when reading Thunder and Presley's story. It just completely transports you into their world; and makes you not want to leave.

Awesome!!!
Wow!! What a ride! Definitely worth reading Pressly before reading Thunder. It does start at her book. She is one smart woman who is going to take that ranch into the future further than any of the men before her have.
