THUNDER is the first instalment in Elizabeth Knox’s contemporary, adult SHOTGUN SAINTS MC: KINGS OF THE ROAD erotic, cowboy, MC, romance series, a spin off set in the author’s SHOTGUN SAINTS world, which in turn is set in the Reaper’s Rejects Worlds. This is SAA Thunder, and twenty-two year old, cattle breeder Presley Hutchins Lyle’s story line. THUNDER should not be read as a stand alone, it is recommended to read Presley’s novella, found in the SHOTGUN SAINTS MC: The Complete Series boxset, as well as PHANTOM book three. If you have not read either story line, there may be spoilers in my review.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Presley and Thunder) THUNDER follows in the aftermath of an attack on the Shotgun Saints MC. Thunder is in recovery with bullet wounds inflicted months before, while Presley struggles to find a place with the family that knew nothing about her existence. Working for the Shotgun Saints MC cattle breeding program, Presley finds herself on the outside looking in but for one man who is struggling to accept he is no longer able to do his duties to the club . An organization known as The Firm is taking aim, and the Shotgun Saints MC may be facing their most dangerous foe to date. Meanwhile, Presley and Thunder’s relationship crosses the line of no return, and with it, incurs the wrath of the man in charge.

The world building focuses on animal husbandry, the rejection by family for a perceived betrayal, and the protection of the members and their family of the Shotgun Saints MC. We are witness to rebuff of an innocent woman caught in the crossfire between family members, and the search for a woman, everyone knows is dead and buried. The original conflicts continue into the new spin off, conflicts that will pit the members against a foe they can not take down.

The relationship between Thunder and Presley is one of the forbidden. Presley is the youngest daughter of MC president Phantom, and as such, is off limits to the members of the MC. Thunder is a single father whose attraction to Presley has been stifled by a possible career ending injury but Thunder is determined to work-through the pain and humiliation as watches from the sidelines as the woman he loves suffers at the hands of the people who refuse to accept her existence. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is another large ensemble cast of familiar, colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters, most of whom we met in the original SHOTGUN SAINTS MC series including president Phantom and his wife Marlena, road captain Banshee and Bex, Shadow and Grace, Rogue and Hadley, Phantom’s son and Presley’s half-brother Shiver (Reaper’s Rejects MC), as well as Spur and Dakota, and Thunder’s daughter Raine.

THUNDER is a fast paced story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and rejection, acceptance and love. The character driven premise dramatic and edgy; the romance is limited but seductive; the characters are desperate, determined and a little bit broken.

Thunder is the Sergeant at Arms for the Shotgun Saints MC. He was shot protecting women and children from an intruder. Presley is the youngest daughter of Phantom who is the President of the Shotgun Saints MC. Before the incident Thunder and Presley were meeting up for sex in College Station where Presley was going to school. Presley gets a call from her sister Grace telling her that her mom and Thunder were shot. Her mom is going to make it but they aren’t sure if Thunder will. Presley drives the three hour drive to the hospital and sneaks in to see Thunder. Presley has two sisters and a brother who are older than her and their mother has been missing for two years. Thunder was one of the MC who buried Jolene after Marlena killed her in self defense. Presley is just now getting to know her half siblings and she is getting accepted by Grace, Dakota and Shiver. At the hospital she gets a text from Dakota to meet up to go visit her mom. Outside the room they hear Marlena talking about killing Jolene and it being covered up. Now Presley is pushed out again by Grace and Dakota. Thunder and Presley don’t want anyone to know about their romance. Presley is afraid of breaking her family up even more. Thunder ends up getting a tattoo of a rattlesnake on his neck after Presley put a halt on their relationship. When Presley can’t stay away from Thunder anymore she decides that she wants a tattoo of a rattlesnake and a Property of Thunder on her back. Thunder and Presley are not as careful as they used to be. One day in the barn they are kissing and Thunder pulls up Presley’s shirt which shows her tattoo. They hear a noise behind them and there is Phantom watching his youngest daughter and his Sergeant at Arms kissing. He saw the Property of Thunder tattoo on Presley’s back. What will happen to Thunder and Presley? Will Phantom hurt either one? Will Thunder and Presley be able to love each other out in the open now? Will Phantom ever forgive them? Will Thunder, Presley and Raine (Thunder’s nine year old daughter) find a new life together?

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

I enjoyed this one, but at the same time, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was a little bit of filler to set up the new Kings of the Road series. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I think I was hoping for a little more from the story and a stronger emotional payoff.

I did love Thunder’s determination to win over Presley. The man was absolutely gone for her, and his whole “I let her go once. I never told her I'd give her up.” attitude was exactly what she needed.

But Presley’s family drama?
Her dad drove me absolutely insane. I hated how selfish he was and how he managed to make everything about himself.
This quote pretty much sums up why I was so frustrated with him…
“Your secret cost me my whole family. It cost me my sisters looking at me like I killed their mother. I was a stranger who didn’t even go to supper because I was avoiding everything. I was talking to Mitch's ashes because there wasn't a living soul who'd have me. Your secret did that. And you've got the nerve to stand in this yard and be destroyed because I didn't tell you I'm happy?”

Overall, I liked Thunder and Presley together, and I enjoyed the story, but I definitely wanted more. It felt like the book was doing a lot of groundwork for what’s coming next rather than giving me the full story I was hoping for.
Still an enjoyable read, and I’m definitely curious about where the series goes from here.

A Jolene is always causing trouble!

This is book one in the spin off series Kings of the Road by Elizabeth Knox. I liked reading the book overall, but the beginning was a bit too poetic in the writing style for me. I was glad when that writing style gave way to just the conversational tone. There is big trouble here with the Shotgun Saints: one they were attacked by The Firm and two, there are some old lies resurfacing from the MC that should have stayed hidden.

In this book: we have Thunder, the sergeant at arms, who was shot during the attack. Not only is Thunder recovering physically, but also mentally from not being able to stop the assault. Thunder just cannot stop working to heal his hip -leg injuries. The lead female is Presley, Phantom’s youngest daughter. She is a beautiful young woman and a has a talent for animals on the ranch. Unfortunately Presley is unfairly taking the brunt of blame for Phatom’s actions as a younger man and her mom’s Marlena’s actions. As a refresh, Phantom’s children are Shiver (male), Grace, and Dakota (all Jolene’s), Presley and Cal (Marlena’s). The book says many times the Presley looks just like her mom. Let just say clearly that Presley is not to blame.

There is a happy for now ending as the next book has The Firm still wanting to destroy the MC. I am theorizing that the MC may have a couple other enemies wanting to cause some destruction. Notable mention is Presley’s brother Shiver and thank goodness he has a level head on him. Read On!

Thunder picks up right in the intense aftermath of Presley’s novella, and it delivered everything I was hoping for and more!

After learning that Thunder kept her father’s secret for so long, Presley walks away, leaving a heartbroken Thunder to return home, recover, and focus on raising his daughter. But their bond runs too deep for her to stay away for long. What follows is a deeply touching story about forgiveness, growth, and rebuilding a life—from Presley establishing the horse breeding program on her dad’s ranch to repairing the broken pieces of her world.

What made this book a 5-star read:

Powerful Relationship Healing: Watching Presley rebuild her relationships with her siblings, her dad (Phantom), and eventually Thunder was so emotionally satisfying. Even after Phantom discovers the truth about Presley and Thunder, the way they work through the fallout and repair their bond was handled brilliantly.

High-Stakes Drama & Heart: The plot strikes the perfect balance between club/family drama and genuine heart. You can feel the emotion on every page as they fight for their future.

The Perfect Ending: Thunder bringing home not just his daughter, but his old lady too, was the absolute sweetest, most complete happy-ever-after I could have asked for.

This was a phenomenal continuation of the Shotgun Saints series! If you love second-chance romance, family reconciliation, and strong MC ties, Thunder is an absolute must-read.

Troubled and dissatisfied

I really enjoyed most of the characters in this series. I am not a fan of Marlena and Phantom. I agree Presley was a victim in everything she did not tell her mom to kill and lie about Jolene. But I am not okay with Dakota and Grace starting to accept Marlena again. Not only did she kill their mother but she pretended Jolene abandoned them and then she started to take her place when she knew Jolene was lying in an unmarked grave. I’m sorry but that can’t be forgiven. Jolene lost after Phantom moved on to a younger woman but that is not a good reason for her to lie in an unmarked grave where no one will ever pay their respects. She raised her children with love and now she won’t get to meet her grand children. I understand them covering things with detective but they don’t have to ever accept Marlena, she has to pay in some form what she did. As for Phantom, I really don’t care for him. He could have taken better decisions. The epilogue wasn’t satisfying.

Awesome!!!

Wow!! What a ride! Definitely worth reading Pressly before reading Thunder. It does start at her book. She is one smart woman who is going to take that ranch into the future further than any of the men before her have. Thunder is a good man but he doesn't think he is with what he has done for The club. Thunder is older than Pressly but he can't stop falling for her.. She asks him to keep them a secret and he knows what secrets do. They destroy families. Pressly is cut out from.her family because of secrets that she knew nothing about.
Elizabeth Knox has written this whole series differently than she has written before and it just rips your heart out and shoves it back in half beaten. This series will make you laugh, cry, rage at.the moon and give you the feels all in one.chapter. I can't wait for the next one I'm the series.

This is the first in a new series, and this is Thunder and Presley’s story.
Thunder is Sergeant-At-Arms in the MC, and he is a single dad to his daughter, and is suffering badly with bullet fragments in his him, while Presley has become an outcast in her family, through no fault of her own. My heart broke for Presley and everything she went through.
This is a well written action-packed story, with family, friendships, emotions, drama, angst, secrets, lies, danger, suspense, intrigue, humour, witty banter, revelations, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, twisted, and unpredictable page turner.

This is a great romance that focuses on this couple and all they have been through. You really get a feel for what is going on in their lives separately after the fall out from Pressley's story. I also love that this focuses mainly on them and there is not a lot of the other characters we know and love and I was ok with that. So much has happened since the club was attacked and Thunder was laying in that hospital bed and we get an up close and personal view of the fallout that happens and how it effects them both and their families.

I can't wait for the next book in the series to continue with how this club is going to deal with those that are threatening their club and their families.

I seriously dropped everything for this book! I loved Presley and Thunder in her novella and couldn't wait for this story. It was truly heartbreaking to see Presley, this fun feisty woman, become an outcast in her own family. I've had a serious soft spot for Thunder from the beginning. I fell even harder seeing how he reacted to his young daughter and Presley's connection, and it was hilarious how she confronted him about their relationship status. Their witty banter, secrecy, and extremely spicy moments had me hanging on every page.

Thunder & Presley's Secret

This story was the start of something new. It felt like there was something missing too, something that is still lurking in the shadows.... I wonder what will happen next.

Presley & Thunder's relationship was a secret to behold & keep it away from her family as much as possible. That made it worse when her father found out too late into their relationship though he's ended up thinking that Thunder will love & protect Presley until the end.

I did enjoy this story entirely & want more to read asap. Thanks Elizabeth for another great series following the Saints' first chapter.

Book 1 of the Shotgun Saints MC: Kings of the Road series, this is about Presley and Thunder, along with Thunders daughter Raine. I like that Presley doesn’t run away, relearning to trust, that Thunder never gave up, even when it seemed hopeless, and Raine's acceptance and admiration for Presley was very endearing. I highly recommend reading the novella Presley before this book, as events mentioned are important to follow the story.

Thunder didn't disappoint after being shot and still living with a fragment still in his leg really tries to stay at the top of his mobility and do his duties as SAA even when it can further injure himself.
Poor Presley is just trying to get by after all the lies and secrets that has seen her sister's pretty much put her in the pariah category.
I enjoyed that she stood her ground towards her father and told him exactly what he had done to not just her but everyone for 2 years, and she finally gets someone to be hers.

Thunder and Presley’s story was finally here, and it was definitely worth the wait! Their journey is filled with the pain of navigating secrets and lies while finding the courage to take a second chance on love. Watching them heal through forgiveness, face difficult lessons, and grow together added so much depth to their story. A great couple with an emotional and meaningful journey! I can’t wait for the next one to see how the overarching storyline plays out!.

This is the second part of Thunder and Presley’s story, so you really need to read Presley first.

The ranch is still reeling after the overheard conversation in the hospital. Presley is hurt by her sisters behaviour, she and Thunder are living dangerously keeping their secret and an enemy is becoming bolder and more threatening.

A great start to this Kings of the Road, Shotgun Saints MC. Plenty of twists, turns and family drama. I’m looking forward to Blaze next.

Holy shit! I have been on an Elizabeth Knox binge this week!!
Thunder and Presley have my heart. When all that shit went down, it hit everybody! Fingers were pointed, people were frozen out and Presley, no fault of her own seemed to get the blame! WTF?!!!

So glad I read this. I hate what everyone is going through. I feel like its tearing everyone apart. And its huet so much. But Thunder deserves the girl and Presley deserves the love of a man and his little girl. Presley is no longer scared to show everyone who she loves. And I love Raine, I think she is the cutest little girl.

When a secret doesn't stay buried it tears apart the family. Presley and Thunder have what they claim is a casual relationship, so they keep it secret. But when a club secret that also effects the family comes out it leaves Presley completely alone with no one to reach for.

This book is different from the others. Not as much danger, same old problems in the background, but targets are different. A new secret comes out and feelings are hurt. HEA for now, by the next book, Blaze, might change that.

Oh boy! Thunder should know better when he hooks up with Presley, but resistance be damned. The chemistry between Thunder and Presley is so hot I swear there's steam coming off my kindle. I don't know how Elizabeth Knox does it, but she makes every book she writes addictive now I crave more.
