Welcome to the Ridgeway Springs Inn, located in its namesake of Ridgeway Springs, Vermont. The first book in the Ridgeway Springs Mystery Series by Amy Prescott. This book was such an enjoyable read.

The protagonist in this series is a very well spoken wordsmith, an archivist by trade. Eloise Stevens is brought back to her home town to take over and operate a family inn due to the death of her father almost a year prior. Just as she was thinking about staying, she walked into the library annex at the inn to find a man sitting in one of her wing-backed chairs, dead; and holding a book, a first edition Frost, one of which she was not familiar to the Inn’s library.

With the help of some long time residents and her knowledge of her dad’s methodical record keeping. Eloise, begins to understand this is a start of something only she can figure out. Hopefully, looking into the past is going to help her figure out her and her family inn’s future.

I feel that the book was written in an orderly fashion, just as the character presents herself. I really enjoyed watching how Eloise was able to put the pieces of the puzzle together logically to come to the final answer. I really enjoyed the story, walking over the bridge, inside the inn, watching each clues unfold. I felt like I was supposed to solve the crime right along with Eloise. I do recommend this book and cannot wait for the next installment.

If you're in the mood for a cozy mystery full of small-town secrets and an amateur sleuth, Fatal Foliage is a great pick. I had the opportunity to read this book as an ARC and enjoyed it immensely.

Eloise inherits an inn from her father upon his passing, despite the fact that she had made it clear she never wanted it. When she moves in temporarily to decide what to do with it, a murder occurs in her library. Fancying herself an armchair detective, Eloise begins digging into the town’s secrets, uncovering not only the truth behind the crime but also surprising revelations about her father.

I especially enjoyed the pacing, the strong small-town atmosphere, and the detailed character development. I’ll definitely be picking up more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book. I’ve visited Vermont several times in different seasons, so it ‘kind-of’ took me back! Eloise has inherited the Ridgeway Springs Inn but one moment she realises she intends to stay & not sell. Shortly afterwards she finds one of her guests dead in the Library Annexe. There is lots of intertwining things going on throughout the book, pointing back into history often.

Cute and cozy with big Nancy Drew vibes (in the best way!). I enjoyed all the characters and loved the setting with mentions of the fall season and colors sprinkled throughout. The author was great at dropping hints early on of details that would become relevant later in the mystery. Worth a read and already looking forward to book 2.
