It's 2004. The world might end. But first... can you survive high school?
Sixteen-year-old Andie Green is tired of being the girl nobody remembers. Especially when it comes to Brandon O'Connell - her longtime crush, who has no idea she exists.
But junior year is going to be different. With a positive attitude, a freshly burned mix CD, and a brand-new push-up bra in her arsenal, she's got this. Probably.
Then a girl from Streetsville High goes missing. Not in a "she transferred" kind of way. More in a something-is-definitely-wrong kind of way.
And suddenly, the thing in the dark begins to take over.
Now Andie and her friends have to do what teenagers always do panic, argue, make dumb decisions, and stick together anyway - because whatever's stalking Streetsville High isn't just picking victims.
It's watching. It's learning. And it's getting closer.
Millennial The Night Watcher is what happens when a teen comedy crashes headfirst into cosmic horror. And not everyone survives.
Perfect for fans - Teen-ensemble supernatural mysteries - 2004 flip phones, mall energy, and pre-social-media survival - Cosmic horror, slow-burn romance, and the government is definitely lying
Crushes. Best friends. Creatures. The school year just got lethal.
This is not my usual read, but I have to say the trip down memory lane was epic. While I did not attend a high school where body snatches ensued and spontaneous explosions were more common than not. I did live in the time of awkward relationships and budding technologies. I loved the references to a time of AIM,TiVo and burned cds. The FMC, Andie, experiences some out of this world moments and while equal parts trying to explain/rationalize what's happening and not seem crazy to those around her (including her crush Bran). Enter her Nancey Drew era where Andie tries to figure out what is happening in Streetsville If you are looking for a YA read that is engaging and nostalgic, this is for you.
I really enjoyed this YA novel! It was fast paced, action packed and creepy! It was also a little nostalgic for me, which made me enjoy it even more. Andie is a typical high school girl, worried about normal high school things. She and her friends who sucked into a whirlwind of an adventure when students start going missing and they try to solve it. I loved the banter between the friends, the reading and even the mean girl scenes. I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation of what was coming next!
This was crazy enjoyable and sooooo relatable. This author must be a millennial because the details were peak. I'm a HUGE fan of body horrors and this was definitely up there as a favorite. Literally devoured it in one sitting (I'll regret it in the morning). I have every intention of recommending this as my submission for my book club.
I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't this. This book was so fun. It tickled all the millennial parts of my brain. It had a fun and cheesy story line (but in the best way). Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. It was an exciting and quick read, and I'm excited to continue with whatever comes next!
