"Sometimes, you don’t get to choose your fate. Sometimes, your fate chooses you."
Raenah O'Connor was a normal girl. She lived in medieval Ireland with her younger sister, Ellen, and her best friend, Aiden O'Cleary. Completely normal. Completely normal, that is, until tragedy struck, a promise was broken, and a strange man named Zander saved her life, claiming he's an angel.
Now, Rae is a vampire, her sister is missing, and she's on her own to learn what it all means. Or so she thinks.
Managing to gather a "merry band of misfits," Rae quickly learns that nothing is as normal as she once thought and she eventually finds herself in a small town where she is forced to keep a big secret.
When the modicum of peace she's found is disrupted, she's forced to confront a history she'd rather forget and face a danger she never knew existed, before it's too late.
I enjoyed this book. The author brings something fresh to a genre that can feel oversatured and redundant. She's done her homework and writes with a beautiful intelligence. The dialog between the characters feels natural, as do their inner voices. I personally love a book that utilizes multi POV when it's done well, and she does it well. The only part I didn't like was the abrupt ending! She's left me wanting more! But fortunately, there is a book 2 on the horizon.
The author did such an amazing job with creating an immersive world. The language, characters, and suspense truly drew me in and left me craving more. Absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next!
