As a wedding planner and divorce attorney, Bri Lane and Evan Spade are opposite sides of the same very expensive coin. When a PR stunt shackles them into a manufactured romance, their biggest professional performance becomes their most intimate war. For her, it's a strategic defense of her brand—the image she's spent years protecting. For him, it's a lucrative game of persuasion, and another argument he intends to win. Every public touch is choreographed, every adoring glance rehearsed. But their biting exchanges quickly twist into something dangerously close to foreplay.
And while Manhattan devours the 'love' story of the decade, the most complicated power struggle is the one they must learn to navigate behind closed doors.
This book was actually so refreshing, I loved these two characters and could have read so much more! Bri, an elite wedding planner, & Evan, a top divorce lawyer, somehow just absolutely worked. She fought so hard against her feelings and he always saw straight through her. Evan knew exactly what dynamic Bri needed in a relationship, just getting her mind to shut off and not have to be the one in control. My jaw lived on the floor for many parts of this book lol i loved it!
The banter is also hilarious between all the characters. I laughed out loud so many times. I hope to see another couple come out from this story!
I took my time reading this one. Because her work deserved it! You can really tell the growth in her writing style and painting a clear image of what is happening. I felt all the emotions of the FMC cause let’s be honest…it’s thing I struggle with too.
I cannot wait to see the other projects this author is working on cause it’ll be an immediate read for me!
I need an extra 50 chapters at this very moment thank ya! I loved literally every detail about the book and the amount of research this author did gahhh! You could tell just how much of herself she put into this book and it shines so bright!! I highly recommend for literally everyone!
I ate this book UP!!!! I basically finished it in one sitting, I could not put it down!! I absolutely loved Evan & Bri, & their dynamic, I loved that she was a wedding planner and he was a divorce lawyer. Also the spice in this book!?!?!? 🤭🤭🤭 The sub/dom dynamic between the MC’s was everything!! The mental health rep in this book was amazing as well, as a fellow anxiety girlie I rly connected with Bri & could relate to her so much. Shoutout to Maz & Dylan, I absolutely adored them as side characters & need more of them immediately!!! Overall I had an amazing time reading this book. The romance between the MC’s was perfection, the BANTER 🫣 absolutely delicious ate it up & left NO CRUMBS, the spice 10/10, & the overall plot was just chefs kiss - the backstories of Bri and Evan broke my heart my poor sweet baby angels 😭!!! I blushed, giggled, kicked my feet, teared up & cried a little, & overall just had a great time. I would 100% recommend giving this book a read!! Will definitely be re-reading again in the future!! 🥰
Thank you so much LK Kagey for giving me an ARC of this book, I rly appreciate it!! I had an amazing time reading & cant wait to read all of your future releases!! 💖
Some of my favourite quotes 🤭:
‘You’re the one holding that fucking leash,’ ‘Why don’t you go ahead and yank it, Angel? It doesn’t happen often, but i do look good on my knees.’
‘Love isn’t about guarantees. It’s about leaping anyway & trusting the fall won’t kill you.’
‘That’s not breakfast Bri. It’s a fuck you to the body I spent the last hour worshipping, & you need to stop neglecting what’s mine.’
‘The only critic that matters is the one kneeling in front of you.’ ‘Everyone else’s opinion is useless noise.’
‘If it’s not serving you anymore, release it.’ ‘Life is too short for chains that no longer fit, even if they once held you together.’
‘I finally understood the shape of what he was to me. A constant. Evan didn’t quiet the noise in my head so much as refuse to let it dictate my life. He didn’t promise me certainty; he offered a place to set the weight down. A reminder that not everything fragile was mine to protect, & not everything strong required my grip to survive.’
‘Regret is completely normal when we step into our power later than we’d like,’ ‘What’s important is that we try not to live there.’
‘Come on, baby,’ ‘ Be a good girl & put that infamous vocabulary to work. Either let me show you how good it feels to let go, or tell me to get the fuck away from you before I start begging.’
‘Your hatred is awfully complicated. Most women don’t moan for men they hate. But then again, most women probably don’t get themselves off thinking about my hand on them, either.’
Something Borrowed Something Screwed is a witty contemporary romance with complex well developed main characters. Bri Lane is a 32 year old successful wedding planner in NYC. Evan Spade is a 35 year old successful divorce attorney. Bri and Evan's paths cross when Bri is planning Evan's best friend, Dylan's wedding. The beginning of the story takes off with the main characters dishing witty banter while the reader experiences the chemistry between the characters. A series of events leads Evan and Bri to cross paths again leading to their mutual famous client's request to carry out a fake relationship to add more media coverage to her wedding.
While the development of Bri and Evan's relationship is at the forefront of the plot, there is a lot of focus on the ghosts that haunt each character from their pasts as well as investing time into personal growth for both characters. Bri suffers from panic attacks and anxiety from her need to be in control at all times. Bri also carries around guilt over a major decision from her past. Evan continually deals with the emotional damage his father left behind. Aside from not being a good husband, he was also a judgmental father.
Evan and Bri's relationship takes on a Dom/Sub role that allows Bri's brain to shut off since Evan is making the decisions and allows her to live in the moment. Evan does not hold back on praising Bri on all aspects of her life and continually tries to show her that she is worthy. The spicy scenes also allowed for relationship growth and definitely wasn't just purely smut, which is actually pretty unique in this genre.
I enjoyed this novel so much. It had so any funny moments and the characters inner dialogue was very relatable. There were several times I laughed out loud while reading. The book was also so well written and she really put in the research into both character's careers. I also loved how L.K. presented each character and made them human by highlighting their strengths and their flaws. So much of the story is focused on Bri's journey of self acceptance and dealing with her anxiety that I was pleased the author was able to create space for Evan to have scenes where his own personal growth shined. I love the tropes in this book: fake dating/forced proximity with a small dose of enemies to lovers. I also found the themes for the couple's spicy scenes to be interesting and related back to the characters personalities.
Thank you so much L.K. for the ARC copy. I know this book will be wildly successful! 💓
Bri Lane is a wedding planner, who we meet at a wedding she organised where Evan Spade happened to be the best man. Evan, being a divorce attorney - the destroyer of the happy endings Bri lives to construct, is Bri’s natural enemy and a thorn in her side. Luckily, after said wedding, she’d never have to cross paths with him again. Right? Fast forward a couple of days and Bri is working on the wedding of two celebrities. Since there’s quite a bit of money involved, the happy couple decides to contact none other than Evan Spade to draw up a prenup. So they meet again and while they’re arguing, she trips and he catches her. Of course, that happens to be the exact moment the paparazzi manage to capture. Our bride sees this as an opportunity to draw even more attention to her wedding - her being the matchmaker between these two very unlikely lovers. Bri and Evan have no choice but to agree to this little PR stunt and Bri soon realizes that Evan might not be the prick she thought he was.
Though it didn’t captivate me as much as I thought it would, I still enjoyed reading Bri and Evan’s story. Bri struggles with anxiety, and it’s great to see how Evan manages to get her out of her head (especially as someone who has anxiety herself), but at a certain point I wasn’t sure how Bri ever managed to do her job without Evan hovering around to prevent a breakdown.
My first language is not English, and despite the fact that exclusively read English books, I struggled with the language at times. There are quite a few difficult words in the book, haha. Nothing the built-in Kindle dictionary and translator couldn’t fix though, but it might be something my fellow bilingual readers want to keep in mind.
I can’t put my finger on exactly what prevented me from being completely immersed in the story, but the language thing might have something to do with it (which is entirely a me-problem 😉). I struggled to really connect with both Bri and Evan emotionally, but overall I would still say this is a very decent book. The premise is strong and well executed, it just didn’t completely click for me.
(I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
This is most definitely a 5⭐️ read! L.K. Kagey does it again!
Bri, the FMC, a wedding planner who definitely takes her job very seriously, to make your wedding rival those in fairy tales with her attention to detail and perfection.
Evan, the MMC, an attorney who specializes in pre-nups, has seen the perfect wedding turn into a disastrous divorce, and doesn't mind letting people know it, especially Bri.
Bri and Evan are on opposite sides of a coin. One, wanting to give you the wedding of your dreams, and the other, there to make sure you are protected when it all falls apart. They couldnt be more different, but still have more in common than they want to or are willing to admit. Each having gone through their own traumas in life, only to come out stronger for it. A wedding planner and a divorce attorney, what could go wrong? Right?
I'm not going to give anything away on this book, but I will say the whole enemies to lovers really works in this story, the banter is on point, and the spicy scenes are hot!
I found myself laughing alot throughout this book with the witty banter and snarky comebacks. I could almost see it happening in my mind. Never would I have thought it could work out between Bri and Evan, given their professions, but the author made sure it did. Its not your typical love story of boy meet girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Its messy and complicated and the characters have to feel their way through it all and put their differences aside to navigate past what they believe.
This story is told in dual POV and is one you don't want to sleep on. But dont take my word for it. Grab a copy and settle in for one hell of a ride!
I had way too much fun with Something Borrowed, Something Screwed… this one is messy, spicy, and full of chaos in the best way.
You’ve got Bri, the wedding planner who lives for love stories, and Evan, the divorce lawyer who’s seen it all fall apart. So obviously, throwing them together is a recipe for absolute disaster… and yeah, it delivers. From the start it’s all sharp looks, smart mouths, and clashing views on love, but the chemistry is there straight away and it does not chill.
The banter is honestly one of the best parts. It’s quick, snarky, and had me actually laughing out loud. But underneath all that tension, there’s some real depth too. Watching Bri’s walls shift and Evan slowly crack out of his cynical shell just hits right. You can feel that push and pull the whole way through.
And when it finally tips over into something more… yeah, the payoff is worth it. The tension builds so well that when it breaks, it really breaks.
If you love enemies to lovers with bite, wedding drama, and that “we absolutely should not be into each other but here we are” energy, you’ll eat this up. It’s one of those “just one more chapter” reads that turns into finishing the whole thing in one go.

If you love an Enemies to Lovers trope then this book is definitely for you!!
Something Borrowed, Something Screwed throws together a high end Divorce and Prenup Lawyer who believes marriage is just for a decent party before it ends and a prestigious Wedding Planner who believes that True Love is out there for everyone amd they deserve a fairytale to start off their wedded bliss. Complete disaster waiting to happen? Yes! Best thing I've read in ages? Also yes!
From the moment Bri tells off best man/ lawyer and cynic extraordinare Evan he knew exactly what he wanted to do with that mouth of hers. He just couldn't help but antagonise her, so when they're both working with a celebrity couple and a misunderstanding leads to them being 'persuaded' to fake date, Bri is outraged whilst Evan secretly hopes he can get her to let him closer.
Bri, strong, fiercely independent and thoroughly capable at her job is secretly clinging to keep up the facade of the every day personas she's wearing. Riddled with a guilt ridden past and anxiety, she's barely holding it all together. But Evan notices, and he strives to prove that she can let go of the control she works so hard to maintain. But what happens when the clock finally strikes and the gig is up?
This book is full of chemistry, banter, angst and emotions that literally leap off the pages. Honestly the build up to just the first kiss had me on pins, so you can imagine when the spice actually hits!
I absolutely ATE this book up in a matter of hours! I honestly wish there was more of it!
Thank you so much LK Kagey for the opportunity to read early
This is a stunning enemies-to-lovers story. A cut-throat divorce and prenup lawyer who believes all marriages will fail meets a prestigious wedding planner—and sparks fly.
Bri is a woman fighting to be seen as the strong, capable person she’s worked hard to become—while quietly carrying the weight of a past life, guilt, anxiety, and a tendency to catastrophise. She’s constantly battling her inner child, masking who she is and consistently chameleon’ising herself to fit into each situation she finds herself in whilst throwing herself into work 24/7 to stay in control.
Whilst Evan is a cynic when it comes to all things commitment and marriage due to his own experiences of relationships growing up and feeling unloved and inferior to his father and unprotected by his mother - hence his career choice.
There’s a fine line between love and hate, and the MMC, Bri, is convinced she’s firmly in the latter, even in the moments Bri lets her guard down and allows the MMC Evan in.
This book is full of angst, and even in the build-up to their first intimate moment, Bri is fighting to stay in control, and just when it feels like she might finally drop her defences—Evan takes control and raises the stakes 🥵
This is a spicy story that packs a punch so be sure to read the triggers before you read
I devoured this in a matter of hours, completely hooked and was up till midnight to finish it! You do get your HEA but as with LK Kagey’s previous book, you have to work for it, but it’s absolutely worth the bags under my eyes this morning 😉😴
WOW! This book! I don’t even know where to begin. First off, so good! Chef’s kiss! He falls first! I apparently have this trope with not only being enemies to lovers, but she is a strong person that uses her strength to hold up the world and then comes across that one man that let’s her know that she doesn’t have to. He recognized her anxiety and helped her through it. All the while falling in love with her. The banter between the two main characters is exquisite. She is a high-profile wedding planner planning the wedding of the century and he is a divorce attorney and best friends with the groom of the last wedding she coordinated. They butt heads constantly and yet there is a chemistry between the two that sizzles on the page. We just know they’re going to get together in the end, it’s just how that you’ll have to read through the middle section to find out how. I do love how we were able to see into their past lives to uncover why it is that Evan became a divorce attorney and why Bri started to plan weddings. I love the closure that she was so in need of from her previous life to be able to allow her to move on with Evan. I love that no matter how much Bri might have frustrated him, he still cared about her well being all the time. If you’re concerned with the content warning of BDSM, don’t be, it is light but woven well the story. I loved it! I cannot recommend this more to everyone! Very smart. Very slick. Very well spoken throughout, the banter be bantering!
Something Borrowed Something Screwed is the kind of sharp, addictive romance that thrives on tension, wit, and perfectly weaponized chemistry. LK Kagey delivers a story that feels equal parts high society spectacle and private battlefield, where love is just another negotiation and vulnerability is the riskiest contract of all. Evan Spade and Bri Lane are brilliantly constructed opposites. He profits from endings, she curates beginnings, and watching those worlds collide is endlessly entertaining. Their forced relationship never feels gimmicky. Instead, it becomes a pressure cooker that exposes ambition, ego, and the cracks beneath carefully crafted identities. What really elevates this book is the dialogue. Every exchange feels like a duel. Their banter is razor sharp, flirtation wrapped in challenge, and the slow shift from calculated performance to something real is incredibly satisfying. The emotional stakes build quietly but steadily, making the eventual unraveling feel earned rather than convenient. The backdrop of Manhattan’s obsession with image and narrative adds another layer, reinforcing the idea that love, like business, can be curated until it cannot. Behind closed doors is where this story truly shines, peeling back the illusion to reveal something messy, complicated, and deeply human. If you love enemies to lovers with bite, high stakes careers, and chemistry that borders on combustion, this one is absolutely worth the hype.
This book wildly exceeded my expectations. I went into it thinking it would be a nice rom-com dom-sub wedding/lawyer story that was on the fluffier side but this was so much more. This story had so much more substance on either side that whilst you had some of the rom-com typical banter that was like 20% of the entire story.
This book is about a wedding planner who believes in true love but actually doesn't believe in it for her and a lawyer who does divorces and pre-nups basically preparing for the end of a marriage and who seems to actually believe in love but doesn't think it's something he can do. There is a dom-sub relationship between them and this works to massively help Bri with her stress in the short term.
As the story goes on you see them fall for each other but you see that Bri is very hard on herself which causes a third act complication (not a break up).
I loved this book so much as it features so many examples of healthy communications. It shows love in all forms and a way of sorting through people's issues in a healthy way.
Bri and Evan are couple goals but also in the background so are Vega and Daz as it shows behind the scenes that they had healthy communication albeit too late.
I could have read so much more about Bri and Evan maybe more focused on her charity weddings.

This book was such a chaotic little delight 😭✨. I picked it up expecting light rom-com energy, and ended up fully invested in the emotional damage of a wedding planner and a divorce attorney who absolutely should NOT work… but somehow do.
Bri Lane is an anxious, overworked queen trying to make her business thrive while holding the entire wedding industry together with a clipboard and one functioning nerve. She’s sweet, hopeful, emotional, and honestly? Way stronger than she thinks 🫶.
Evan Spade… listen. That man is a menace. A hot, smug, emotionally-repressed menace who hates love but somehow can’t stop orbiting the girl who believes in it. Their banter?? Sizzling. Their tension?? Whew 😮💨🔥.
And the fake scandal to forced proximity shift??? Chef’s kiss. They annoyed the hell out of each other while accidentally falling for each other and I ate that UP.
Side characters like Vega, Dax, and Maz made everything even better. I'm convinced they're the weapons formed against Bri 🤣🤣🤣🤣
My only reason for not giving a full 5 stars is the pacing...some parts dragged, some drama felt a little extra, and there were moments where I wanted to personally pull these two into couples therapy 😭.
But overall? Fun, messy, sweet, emotional, and FULL of chemistry. A perfect read when you want banter, a little chaos, and a romance that almost feels like fate 💕🔥📚.
This story is about Bri, a wedding planner who believes in love and Evan, a divorce attorney who loves to rile her up and give statistics of marriage failures at the worst times. A wonderful enemies to lovers story where he has fallen first and she is working through trauma to accept the love she deserves. The banter between the two character is unmatched!
If you love enemies to lovers with a dom twist, this story is for you! It will have you in tears within the first 100 pages that will have you reading chapter after chapter without wanting to put it down. Both characters are struggling with their past in different ways, Bri has to confront her past while struggling with the anxiety of doing that and Evan needs to be patient while understanding how to give/accept the love he didn’t get as a child. Get ready to be thrown into an emotional ringer!
The BDSM aspect is light and shows the trust between the bond. It’s integrated into the story without overpowering. Naturally it took Bri some time but the care and nurturing Evan was giving her was 💋💋
The tension, the banter, the spice, the CHEMISTRY, it all creates a beautiful well written story from L. K. Kagey that I was honored to be able to read!
I just finished Something Borrowed, Something Screwed by L.K. Kagey, and I can honestly say I absolutely loved it.
Bri hit close to home for me. Her struggle with anxiety felt raw, real, and at times painfully relatable. The way it was written really captured how overwhelming and debilitating those moments can be, and I appreciated that authenticity so much.
And then there’s Evan. While he had his own issues to work through, I loved how he slowly helped crack through Bri’s armor. Their relationship wasn’t perfect or easy but that’s what made it feel so real. Watching them both grow and find love despite everything stacked against them was incredibly powerful.
This book had such a refreshing balance of darker humor and emotional depth. It didn’t shy away from the hard stuff, but it also gave us moments that made me smile, laugh, and genuinely root for them.
I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to receive an ARC copy this is one I’ll absolutely be adding to my bookshelf for keeps once the book releases.
If you love romance that’s real, a little messy, emotionally honest, and still gives you that sense of true love you need to read this. PS - we love Clovie 💋
Bri has just scored the wedding of the century - a famous actress marrying a famous musician, and she is the wedding planner. Evan is a divorce attorney, known for his unbreakable pre-nups. They have both been hired by the bride to do what they do best. Bri is a force of nature, serious and unstoppable when it comes to making sure weddings and all the events leading up to them go off without a hitch. Evan believes that divorce is inevitable and parties should be prepared for that inevitability. So what happens when they are unwittingly forced to pretend they are a couple, when they can barely be in the same room without combusting? FIREWORKS! Both characters have history that has led to their views on marriage. Both are carrying a ton of emotional baggage. The chemistry between them, though? Explosive! This was a fun read, but also deep, with the characters facing their fears and the trauma they endured to get to the place they were in. There are themes involving emotional abuse, PTSD, anxiety and depression, and therapy, but overall, it's a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers romance that's definitely worth reading.
Huge thank you to L.K. Kagey for letting me read this early. I had such a good time with it!
This one grabbed me right away. The banter was actually funny, and I caught myself laughing out loud a few times. The tension between Bri and Evan was so good too… the kind that keeps you reading until 2am.
Bri really got to me. Her anxiety felt honest in a way that hit a little too close to home, but I appreciated that it wasn’t glossed over. Evan isn’t perfect either, but I liked watching him slowly break through her walls. Their relationship is messy at times, but it works because of that.
Yes, there’s spice...and it’s good! But what stuck with me more was the emotional side of things. There’s a lot going on underneath everything, and it made the story feel a lot deeper than I expected.
I genuinely loved this one and would definitely recommend it.
Bri Lane is the mastermind behind big extravagant, over the top weddings. The kinds magazines write about. She is always in control; every flower petal blooming, champagne cascading, easy family tension, you name it-> she gets it done. Bri loves *love*.
Evan Spade is a ruthless divorce attorney, renowned for devising perfectly executed prenups for A-listers. After watching so many marriages go down in flames, who’s to blame him for being a cynic?
When these two are forced to work together for a celebrity wedding, the tension is unbearable. Their banter is unmatched.
Will Bri and Evan get their own happily ever after? 💍🥂❤️
💋 enemies to lovers ⛓️ anxiety/adhd rep 💋 fake dating ⛓️ contemporary romance 💋 banter ⛓️ bdsm
Thank you Laci for reminding me I don’t have to listen to nasty words said by someone insignificant from ten years ago🖤
Something Borrowed, Something Screwed was such a refreshing, addictive read, I couldn’t get enough of Bri and Evan.
Bri, an elite wedding planner, and Evan, a top divorce lawyer, are complete opposites, yet somehow they work perfectly. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is packed with sharp, hilarious banter and undeniable chemistry from the very start. I found myself laughing out loud so many times, but also completely hooked on the emotional depth behind both characters.
This story goes beyond the romance, diving into past trauma, anxiety, and personal growth in a really meaningful way. Evan sees right through Bri’s need for control and gives her the space to just be, and watching their relationship develop was everything. The spice is definitely there, but it adds to the story rather than taking it over.
Between the fake dating, forced proximity, and all the tension, this book truly felt like a movie playing out in my head. My jaw was on the floor more than once, and I genuinely didn’t want it to end, I would happily read a million more chapters.
If you love enemies-to-lovers with wit, heart, and heat, this is a must-read. Highly recommend!
Thank you L.K Kagey for allowing me to read this before release day.
"Love isn’t about guarantees. It’s about leaping anyway and trusting the fall won’t kill you."
♡This book was everything I needed & so much more, I didn’t want it to end! Bri is a wedding planner & Evan is a divorce lawyer..YESS PLEASE! Bri is strong & independent but is also full of anxiety from a past she is trying so hard to forget & the walls she's built around her heart are a fortress. Evan loves a good challenge so when he sees the opportunity to to spend more time with her he jumps at the opportunity!
I spent the majority of this book in tears from how hard I was laughing at the banter between the mcs as well as the side characters! If you enjoy a true enemies to lovers trope with slow burn tension that will have you on your knees begging for just a kiss look no further!♡
I was lucky enough to read the first draft of this story and was so worth the wait!!! I thought it took forever !!!
Evan Spade is a divorced attorney. Bri Lane is a wedding planner. Yes, that’s a disaster waiting to happen. They both met at a wedding she was planning. Him as a best man, and the firestorm started there. But life somewhat throw them a curve ball and they are stuck together, faking an engagement so she can keep her job and him helping her.
This beautiful love story that started with two persons hating each other’s, find a way to learn how to trust each other’s and finally fall in love. Some childhood might not be the best start in life but at the end, you decide what you want to do with it. Continue the cycle or find the perfect person to heal and trust you will never do the same mistakes the parents did. And they are funny bits in there not just drama!!! I really love that book and I gave it a big 5⭐️
I was fortunate enough to ARC L. K. Kagey first book (Beneath The Surface). Let me just say that her writing has evolved so beautifully.
Something Borrowed, Something Screwed is the perfect mix of spice, chaos, and unforgettable banter.
From the very first page, the characters feel real, messy, and completely relatable and MC’s dynamic…Pure entertainment!!!
I found myself laughing out loud, completely hooked on the push-and-pull tension between the characters. The chemistry is sharp, the dialogue is witty, and the chaos just keeps you turning pages.
But what really caught me off guard was the emotional depth. Beneath all the humor and heat, there’s genuine character growth and an emotional backstory that pulls hard on your heartstrings when you least expect it.
This story delivers everything: fun, feeling, and a little bit of emotional damage….and I enjoyed reading it. ✨📖
Bri Lane is a celebrated wedding planner, and Evan Spade is a high-end divorce attorney—two people who seem built to clash. Thrown together at glamorous events under constant paparazzi pressure, they turn from enemies into something much more electric. Beneath the sharp banter and rich, high-stakes drama, both are carrying emotional baggage that makes their connection feel even more intense.
This book delivers everything readers love in an enemies-to-lovers romance: forced proximity, lust, laughs, and plenty of tension. The chemistry is fiery, the glamour is nonstop, and the relationship between Bri and Evan feels equal parts messy and irresistible. With its mix of emotional depth, sparkle, and swoon-worthy moments, this story is a fun, fast-paced romance that builds to one unforgettable little word: ACE.
This book was so much fun. I am obsessed with a dark romcom and when it's written well and as unputdownable at Something Borrowed, Something Screwed.
The characters were charming and they felt so real and authentic. Their love story and the spice always grew along side the plot and their development as people who are actively growing. Its a beautiful homage to living with anxiety, difficult family problems, and high achieving people who become isolated or lonely.
I'm so grateful I got an ARC and can be one of the first people to tell you: read this book! It's as sweet as it is hot, its got that healing kind of kink, and its funny (the banter is bantering)! What else could you ask for?! Also make sure to follow this author everywhere, she's going to blow up and I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be fun to watch.
Even though me and the FMC, Bri have absolutely nothing in common physically, she was a very easy character to relate to. I felt the anxiety and mental health struggles were represented very accurately and it felt very comforting to have a character experience things that I experience every day.
Laci’s writing style is absolutely immaculate. When reading this story, I could easily picture every scene, it felt like a movie unraveling in my brain. And even though everything was very detailed, it never felt like all the details were extra or redundant.
Overall, I really loved this story. I don’t usually read smutty contemporary romance, but I will definitely be tuning in to Laci’s next read. This was a great reminder that not all love stories end in a traditional marriage but that doesn’t make them less important!
Release date 15th April Something Borrowed, Something Screwed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶🌶🌶🌶
💭Thoughts I was hooked from the start. The banter, the tension, and the push and pull between the characters was so addictive. It’s one of those books where you can feel the chemistry in every interaction. The emotional depth surprised me in the best way. There’s a lot more going on beneath the surface, and it gives the story real weight alongside the romance and spice. And the spice… yeah, it delivers 🥵 It’s intense, well built, and actually adds to the story instead of taking over. If you love strong characters, tension-filled dynamics, and romance that keeps you completely invested, this is definitely one to keep your eyes out for !
I’m so glad I was able to receive an advanced copy because this was an easy 5 ⭐ read for me—I genuinely could not put it down. From the very first chapter, I was hooked, and every time I told myself “just one more page,” I ended up reading five more.
The chemistry between the characters? Absolute chef’s kiss 🤌. It felt natural, electric, and completely addictive to watch unfold. But what really made it stand out was the emotional turmoil they had to work through—there was so much depth, tension, and growth that made their connection feel hard-earned and real. And the spice… 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book had me fully invested from start to finish, and I’m already wishing I could read it again for the first time.
This book needs to be on everyone’s book club list. It’s one of those that will have you laughing, crying, and wanting a man to take you to a garden to play hide and seek. (Primal Play is a must) It embraces anxiety and conversations on dealing with it. I love Bri and Evan so much they were oil and water in the beginning, but when Evan shows his Dom side I was even saying yes sir. ( holy hotness)
You will love the part where Bri searches SUB & DOM relationships and what comes out of it.
I really hope this continues and a certain wedding planner assistant/ dance teacher gets the hot single dad whose kid is in her class.
Thank you L.K. For giving me the opportunity to ARC read this wonderful book.
A wedding planner meets a notorious attorney known for being a giant prick... How will this end?
Honestly, this book was so refreshing to read! The writing is excellently done, the story has lots of banter and steamy moments between the two rivals.
I thought Evan and Bri would have a major fallout but they handled it very maturely. It was so nice to see. Not to mention the dynamic of their relationship! I loved how he showed his love and care towards her even when she was spiraling. Especially then. We all need someone like Evan in our lives to show that even if we're seen as difficult or whatever else, we deserve to be seen and cared for. To have the burden taken off of our shoulders...
I was sitting at the edge of my seat, so excited to keep reading! Would definitely recommend.
