Infernal Affairs #2

Hell's Half Acre

Rate this book
Being the heir to hell comes with enemies. Being a pawn in someone else's game? That's where Luke draws the line.

Luke Tievel has always known his enemies outnumber his friends. When your inheritance is the underworld, that comes with the territory. But divine politics have escalated to a new level—and now both Luke and his partner, Detective Sorcha O'Malley, have targets on their backs.

Old factions are rising. Heaven and hell are circling. And every side wants the same total control of the mortal world and the destruction of anyone who won't kneel.

Luke has never minded being the center of attention. But he's no one's pawn—and he likes the world the way it is. Broken, messy, human. Worth saving.

Now he and Sorcha must hold the line against preternatural forces tired of playing by the old rules. The stakes aren't just their lives. It's humanity's extinction—and the only thing standing in the way is an heir who refuses to inherit and a detective who doesn't know how to quit.

Darkly witty and relentlessly paced, Hell's Half Acre is urban fantasy for readers who like their heroes irreverent, their stakes apocalyptic, and their demons on both sides of the fight.

Sherrilyn Kenyon escalates the stakes to cosmic proportions as Heaven and Hell circle for control and humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. Darkly witty, relentlessly paced, and apocalyptic in scope, this is urban fantasy for readers who want irreverent heroes, divine warfare, and demons fighting on both sides. The world is broken, messy, and human—and Luke intends to keep it that way.

Perfect for readers who Urban fantasy where Heaven and Hell collide with apocalyptic consequencesIrreverent heroes refusing to play by divine rulesDetective partnerships holding the line against extinction-level threatsDarkly witty suspense with relentless pacing and cosmic stake

2 Hells half Acre - Sherrilyn Kenyon
5⭐️
Drugi dio novog serijala moje omiljene autorice. Što se dogodi kada sin od Lucifera zapravo shvati da voli provoditi vrijeme s svojom partnericom i da zapravo ljudski svijet ima svojih prednosti?

Dodajte u to pokušaj ubojstva, smaknuća troje Alpha, malverzacije obitelji i zakulisne igre i dobili ste odličan nastavak serijala.

Britak humor, sarkazam, podmetanja i ludorije demona daju ovom serijalu njegovu karakterističnu prepoznatljivu notu.

Thank you booksprout for the ARC

Luke Teivel, the son of Lucifer and a Hellhound Alpha, is a detective for Infernal Affairs. After he and his new partner solve their first case, another quickly arises. Meanwhile, Luke must wrangle his closet demons back to where they belong and discover who released them. To add to his workload, someone has placed a bounty on Sorcha. Are these three incidents connected? And can Luke protect Sorcha from the unknown forces threatening her?

Detective Sorcha O’Malley is settling into her new position at Infernal Affairs – and adjusting to her new partner’s idiosyncrasies. On top of their latest case, she volunteers to help Luke track down his escaped closet demons. When Sorcha encounters a sinister being bent on taking her, she and Luke discover someone has put a mark on her. Can she and Luke uncover who placed the bounty on her? Is it tied to the ancient power within Sorcha?

Luke makes this book – and series – so entertaining to read. He is now one of my all-time favorite characters from Sherrilyn Kenyon. His antics and sharp wisecracks always amuse me. I never know what to expect from him or his mouth. I like that Luke is slowly evolving. He is aware of the changes and what sparked them. What I adore the most about Luke is his protectiveness towards his partner Sorcha. He is aware that she is his weakness, and he will not let any godly or supernatural force harm her.

Sorcha is an interesting enigma. She is gradually learning that there is far more to her than even she understands. Whatever that is, it baffles her supernatural partner and his ancient friends. I like how Luke is rubbing off on Sorcha, especially his warped sense-of-humor. And she is inadvertently influencing change in him. What I adore the most about Sorcha is that she knows there is more to Luke than his evil heritage. She knows that it does not define him.

HELL’S HALF ACRE is the second book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new paranormal series, INFERNAL AFFAIRS. Fans of both SUPERNATURAL and LUCIFER will enjoy this series. It shares the same type of elements. There is even a Supernatural reference, which made me smile. I recommend starting with the first book, HELL TO PAY. It establishes the characters, the setting, parts of Luke’s history, how he and Sorcha got paired up, and other pertinent details. I read this book in a single sitting because I honestly did not want to put it down. The story has the author’s trademark snarky humor that is reminiscent of her early Dark Hunter books.

Speaking of Sherrilyn’s DH books, Acheron and Simi make an appearance. I squeed in delight. It proves that INFERNAL AFFAIRS does tie into the Dark Hunter world. We even get to meet Ash and Tory’s son! I really enjoyed Simi and Helly’s friendship. Those two are so alike that it spells trouble!

What I loved most about this story is how effortlessly it mixes supernatural danger with humour, romance and genuinely engaging characters. Sorcha and Luke make such an entertaining pair because their relationship is built on constant banter, curiosity and a growing trust that neither of them seems completely prepared for. Luke is powerful, mysterious and wonderfully sarcastic, while Sorcha brings a grounded perspective that makes the strange world around them much easier to experience. The supernatural elements are imaginative without taking away from the human side of the story, and the investigation gives everything a strong sense of momentum. I especially enjoyed the way demons, werewolves, angels and other supernatural beings are given their own personalities instead of simply being treated as background creatures. There is always another secret waiting underneath the current problem, which keeps the world feeling much larger than what the characters initially understand. The humour is another major strength. Even during dangerous moments, the dialogue can suddenly become playful and unexpected, and that gives the story a distinctive personality. Beneath all the chaos, there is also a surprisingly emotional thread involving family, loyalty, loss and the difficult process of learning who can truly be trusted. Sorcha and Luke gradually become much more important to one another, and that emotional development gives the supernatural adventure its heart. The result is a highly entertaining paranormal romance with mystery, danger, humour and plenty of personality. It feels imaginative, lively and completely confident in the strange world it has created, and I would happily spend more time with these characters.

This is book 2 of the Infernal Affairs series. In this one the murder investigations continue, but this time Luke and Sorcha are investigating murders of werewolf alphas that are being beheaded. In the meantime, to keep it even more interesting, the closet demons have escaped and somehow Sorcha has a bounty on her head. In order to protect her, Luke spends a lot more time with her, so the slow burn romance is there too with the touch her and die vibes. All of this makes for a page turner that you won't want to put down. I'm really enjoying this series, and I could easily see it as a TV series.

In addition, there are even more reasons for why I loved this book. I laughed out loud when reading one part of this because in my review of the first book I said it reminded me of the tv series Supernatural and then I read this in the story:

"The woman scowled at Sorcha's badge. "Never heard of Infernal Affairs. Is this some Sam and Dean scam? What are you trying to pull?"

If you watched Supernatural, then you know who Sam and Dean are and why I thought this was so funny. I loved how she added things like that in the story.

Another thing I loved was that we got to see Acheron and Simi from the Dark Hunter series in this one. That made me so happy to see the two series mix. And how can you not love whenever Simi appears. Especially when she's at the ready with her BBQ sauce. lol

So now I can't wait for the next book in the series. Especially after that ending. I can't believe it left with a cliffhanger like that. I have to know what Luke does. And I just hope I don't have to wait too long for the next book to find out.

HELL’S HALF ACRE is the second book in the new INFERNAL AFFAIRS series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Luke Tieval, heir to hell, and Detective Sorcha O’Malley partner together as Heaven and Hell fight for control, putting a target in their backs. As they fight to save humanity from extinction, they are also fighting their attraction and growing emotional attachment to each other. This is a slow burn series which is currently without spice, a third person, dual POV, contemporary paranormal suspense/urban fantasy with a touch of romance and tropes like slow burn, they are partners, he needs to keep her safe, paranormal crimes, he is the son of Lucifer, she can see ghosts, competing love interest, angels, demons, gods, and magic. I am really enjoying this new series which has plenty of humor, paranormal shenanigans, Heaven/Hell politics, and a mysterious assassin hit on Sorcha resulting in some pretty surprising revelations. I really like Luke and Sorcha. All of the secondary characters are entertaining, especially the closet demons! I loved the appearances by Acheron and Simi, because I love any opportunity to bring a little bit of the Dark Hunters into my life and I haven’t had any new hits for quite a while. I recommend this novel for readers who enjoy paranormal murder mysteries/urban fantasies with a touch of slow burn romance. (4.5 rounded to 5 stars where necessary.).

Hell's Half Acre, the second book in Sherrilyn Kenyon's new urban fantasy series, is a fast-paced, darkly entertaining ride filled with humor, danger, mystery, and sizzling chemistry.
Luke, the six-and-a-half-foot son of Satan, works on Earth as a paranormal detective for Infernal Affairs alongside his partner, Sorcha. Luke was cast out of Hell by his father for reasons he still doesn't understand. When Anubis arrives to summon him home, Luke refuses. If his father wants a favor, he can come to Luke's turf and ask for it himself.
Meanwhile, bounty hunters are after Sorcha—but who hired them and why? Adding to the intrigue is Rory, an angel and fellow detective who competes with Luke for Sorcha's attention and may have been sent to spy on him. Interestingly, Rory hasn't divulged his paranormal nature and instead tries to pass himself off to Sorcha as just another human, making his motives even more suspicious.
Longtime Kenyon fans will especially enjoy the crossover with her Dark-Hunter series. Acheron, the ancient Atlantean god and leader of the Dark-Hunters, appears along with his unforgettable daughter, Simi.
Kenyon skillfully blends supernatural mystery, action, sarcastic humor, romantic tension, and complicated family dynamics into one highly entertaining story.

The heir to hell, a relentless detective and a war between heaven and earth.
A supernatural thriller and urban fantasy brimming with action, dark mythology and a strong sense of camaraderie.
This gem is a must-read for fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romance with touches of suspense.
The story centres on Luke Tievel, who would rather defend the human world than claim his infernal heritage.
Together with Detective Sorcha O’Malley, Luke must confront celestial and demonic forces seeking absolute control, proving that their loyalty and alliance are the final line of defence to save humanity.
Luke is a dissident rebel; his character is fascinating because, despite having a dark destiny laid out for him, he chooses to fight for humans and defend his own freedom.
I really enjoyed the development of the relationship between Luke and Sorcha, as well as the constant danger they face. It’s a must-read for anyone who loves stories featuring detectives, supernatural beings and high stakes.

Luke Tievel is the son of Lucifer and Senka. He is part Hellhound and was tossed out of Hell centuries ago. He is a detective of the Infernal Affairs but not a lot of people know who he really is except for his partner, Sorcha O’Malley. Sorcha has only been in Savannah for a year or more and is mostly human. Her twin sister was murdered but they never found the killer. Sorcha has not stopped looking but she is getting closer. When a werewolf is murdered and his head removed, Luke and Sorcha are on the case. Then a few days later another werewolf is decapitated. Plus someone is gunning for Sorcha and Luke makes her stay with him for the time being. Can they figure out what is going on in their town before another werewolf is killed?

This is the second in this series. I didn’t read the first one but it’s probably best if you do. I loved it. There is humor and suspense. Angels, demons, and other creatures that go bump in the night. I hope Luke and Sorcha get together.

It is so good to have Sherrilyn Kenyon back spinning stories sure to pull in the reader. Especially since she brought along a very special DH surprise. The appearance of those two characters made Kenyon fans cheer. I appreciate their addition but Luke and Sorcha are terrific characters who could easily carry the story. Luke was always fun but he evolved so much from the beginning of book 1. I loved the inclusion of the FCDs and Helly who reminds me a bit of another beloved character.
There is a lot going on from the central case to who betrayed Luke yo Sorcha's truth. It all blended together and then left characters with Luke in a quandary. Can't wait to see how that turns out.
You have to read the two books in order. They are both recommended.

With this second installment in the series, I am now sure that Luke is one of my all-time favorite characters that Sherrilyn Kenyon has written.
I love Luke and Sorcha's partnership. Luke is slowly growing and evolving from the guy who didn't really care about anything or anyone. And Sorcha is learning more about who she is and why she is triggering Luke's supernatural spidey sense.
In this one, his hilarious closet demons have escaped. So they are working a case, tracking down the closet demon, who are hilarious by the way, and on top of all that, Sorcha now has a bounty on her.
I love that we get a crossover with the Dark Hunter series.
So far, this series is fun, fast-paced, just emotional enough, and has me laughing out loud constantly.
I can't wait to continue this series!.

Book 2 of the Infernal Affairs series brings even more murder, mayhem, supernatural chaos, and a little spicy slow-burn romance! 🔥

Luke and Sorcha are investigating beheaded werewolf alphas, escaped demons are running around, and Sorcha somehow has a bounty on her head—because apparently, having a normal day was too much to ask. 😂

Add in Luke’s serious “touch her and die” energy, and you’ve got one heck of a page-turner! I’m loving this series and could absolutely see it as a TV show. Give me popcorn—I’m ready for episode one! 🍿🐺🔥

And I laughed when the book dropped a little Supernatural reference after I had literally said the first book reminded me of the show. The universe clearly has jokes. 😂.

I really enjoyed this second instalment. Luke continues to be such a fun character, with his attitude and humour balancing out the darker supernatural elements of the story. His partnership with Sorcha remains one of the highlights, especially with all the tension and danger surrounding them.

There’s plenty happening here, from shifting alliances and mysterious enemies to the larger conflict between supernatural factions. I also enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and how the story connects with the wider supernatural world.

Fast-paced, entertaining, and packed with action and humour, this was a great follow-up and definitely left me wanting to see where Luke and Sorcha’s story goes next.

I was so excited to see the second installment in this because I so enjoyed this first book. In this latest, Luke and Sorcha are on the hunt for killers, but someone also seems to be on the hunt for Sorcha. I just loved this book with the fun snark between Luke and Sorcha, the love Helly has for Luke and vice versa, and the glimpse of characters from another series by this author. This does give me faint vibes of Lucifer, in a very good way, not as a knockoff. If you love paranormal mysteries, slow burn romance, and fun characters, definitely give this series a try. Fans of this series will love this latest. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Hell’s Half Acre is the second book of the author’s Infernal Affairs series and joins partners Luke Tievel son of Lucifer and Detective Sorcha O’Malley on another Paranormal adventure through hell and back.
As forces try again to take over the mortal realm these two fight to keep it just the way it is, imperfect but theirs.
A nicely written story unfolds with a cast of well crafted characters, danger, intrigue, suspense, humor, family dynamics, and the unspoken feelings developing between the two leads that I look forward to watching develop as the series progresses.
A good and entertaining read!.

Great sequel, however; killer cliffhanger at the end of the book. I think I liked this one even more than the first. Definitely a slow-burn romance and I for one am enjoying every second of it. Love the growth between Luke and Sorcha. Love all the side characters and visiting with some of the Dark Hunter's, especially seeing Acheron! Gosh, the back and forth between Luke and Sorcha is HOT and cannot wait for the third book. I'm dying here with the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers so far this year.

This is the second book in the series and Kenyon does a fantastic job building the story. It starts right where the last one ends and the excitement and action continues on every page. Fans of her Dark Hunter series will appreciate some of the cameos. The interaction among the characters are hilarious. While it’s not quite a cliffhanger, it does end an a dramatic way. Can’t wait to see how it all turns out!.

It’s been a while since I read a story by this author, and wow, why did I leave it so long?

I really enjoyed it.

Luke is such a brilliant, he’s powerful, stubborn and completely determined to do things his own way. The mix of supernatural politics, danger and mystery kept me hooked, and I loved Luke and Sorcha fighting side by side.

Fast-paced, entertaining and full of twists, with plenty of action to keep things moving.

Unpredictable outcomes

Once again Sherrilyn delivers a great read. Infernal Affairs, an agency that deals with preternatural crimes when those crimes fall outside the realm of human crimes. Luke, son of the devil and banned from Hell and his partner, Sorcha investigate those crimes. In this case, the death of two werewolves But now, Sorcha is the target and the reason is unknown. Luke is obligated to protect her, but in spite of his best efforts is falling for her. The story telling is smooth and it is easy to become invested in the characters and story.

I could read about Luke & Sorcha forever. Helly has got to be one of the best characters.

I enjoy all of SK books though I have missed some since I took a five year hiatus from reading. But this new series is good. I like the ARC. And if you are missing the DH you get to catch up with some here. I still hear Tom Ellis in my head as I read. Not sure why because no one has ever mentioned a British accent. I just get that vibe plus a little Joseph Morgan with a splash of Supernatural.

Devils and Gods..

I’ll start by saying this book is completely a cliffhanger. The werewolf situation has been handled. Looks father has told him he can come back to hell but the price is one that Luke will never pay.

Luke Teivel is the son of evil and the more I read about him the more I’m falling in love. I was glued to every page from beginning to end.

“He looks like he plays in a band. Or just stepped off the cover of a romance novel.”

This series is getting better with every new story. We even see some old friends from other series that we know and love. A murder mystery to solve.

“Murder, mayhem, and merriment. You know? The usual.”

We find out some secrets that are definitely going to play out in future books.

If he had a heart, it was because of Helly. And Sorcha was his soul. His conscience. She was the sole reason he was able to see the real Helly now.

That ending was OMG!!
