Here’s the thing
I adore lady chatterleys lover (the book & the Jack O’Connell movie)
So when I seen this I obviously had to get it, I loved every minute of this book honestly it was fantastic, it gave me everything I wanted and more

This is a dark and spicy retelling of the classic novel with a vampiric twist. Following the basic premise of Lady Chatterley’s Lover, but in a world inhabited by vampires, this book does have a fair few trigger warnings, so be sure to check them out before diving in.
About the Book 📖
In a world where turning humans into vampires is against the law but vampire numbers are dwindling Sir Clifford Chatterley has a theory. He is determined to prove that a turned vampire can be tamed and brought to heel and in doing so he will cement his place in the vampire hierarchy.
Clifford turns his longtime nurse Constance and confines her within his sprawling mansion. Forced to suffer through Sir Clifford's methods, Constance is desperate to escape her prison. After proving herself capable of resisting the temptation of 🩸 she is allowed to explore the grounds surrounding the estate.
Constance finds herself drawn to the elusive groundskeeper. Keeping to the shadows Mellors has been watching her as well and when they are let loose in the forest without Clifford’s knowledge they begin to explore what it truly means to be a vampire.
My Thoughts 💭
This book is wild, in the best way of course. If you like spicy retellings and enjoy a woman discovering her own power and worth then this is the book for you. Constance has been at the mercy of men her whole life and Clifford’s treatment of her is the tipping point.
Connie’s relationship with Mellors isn’t perfect though. He himself is trapped and despite the freedom to roam the woodland he isn’t free to do anything but Clifford’s bidding. It is Constance’s arrival that changes everything for him and I loved seeing her take control of her own life!

“Chatterley” by Cara Clare is a reimagining of the very scandalous Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D. H. Lawrence, which, to my regret, I have not read yet. If you loved “Nosfetatu” this book is definitely for you!
The writing style is very easy-going, and the book itself is quite short, making the story rather self-explanatory for Constance — the main character of this novel. Following the inner idea of the classical novel, “Chatterley” particularly shows how she begins to accept her new, true nature as a vampire and her growing hunger for blood. In many ways, it challenges the patriarchal idea of breaking a woman’s will in order to prove a man’s power.
Mellors is a rather interesting character as well. I would describe him as something like a serpent-tempter for Constance, as he is the one helping her become herself, break her chains, and finally be free.
If you are looking for a short novel including vampires and eroticism, I would recommend giving it a try, just make sure to check the trigger warnings first.

It’s a thoughtful, emotionally driven read, the tone is bittersweet but ultimately hopeful. There’s a quiet intensity running through the story, with a focus on longing, restraint, and the complexities of desire. The characters are nuanced, their internal struggles and the tension between what they want and what they believe they should do, drive the story forward more than any external plot.
The romance is slow, deliberate, and filled with tension. It’s not always easy or straightforward, it doesn’t feel like a perfectly tied up fairy tale ending, but rather a realistic step toward a future they’re choosing for themselves, even if that comes with uncertainty, but that’s what makes it feel authentic and kept you invested.

Lady Chatterley's Lover has always been controversial. Women have been seen as property instead of humans for millenia. Clare harnesses this feminine rage into a story of self-discovery, the consequences of social norms, and resistance in a way that could only be done with vampires.
Clifford believes vampiric urges can and should be controlled. But when Connie meets Oliver, he sees all of her in a way she's never experienced.
As Connie finds herself, she finds the strength to dream, to resist, and to escape.

Chatterley is one of those books that sneaks up on you. It’s soft at first, then suddenly sharp in all the places that matter. This book has a dreamy, atmospheric tenderness that amplifies every emotion. It’s a story about desire, loneliness, and the messy, beautiful ways we try to feel alive again.
I loved how intimate the writing felt, like being let in on someone’s most private thoughts. The character work is rich, and the tension is slow.
Plus the cover is soo pretty 🤩

This book was really good, and I read it within a 6 hour time period. I love that both the plot and the smut are both equally balanced without one overtaking the other. This was such a good read and I would definitely recommend it to those who enjoy books about self-discovery.
