I Can't Stop Thinking About Horses and Sex marks the long-awaited return of Tuca & Bertie creator and BoJack Horseman producer/production designer Lisa Hanawalt to comics. This is the honest, silly, horny and vulnerable memoir of a horse girl, now in her forties and reflecting back on a lifetime of obsessions.

Whether Hanawalt is confronting large life issues like whether or not to have kids, being an anxious lil freak, caring for a sick horse, revisiting childhood trauma, or dealing with a major breakup and the ensuing lustfulness—she delivers a reading experience that’s relatable, affirming, and almost always hilarious. In lush colors and kinetic lines, she charts the strange terrain of life, one bumpy, dusty horseback ride at a time.

It was scary to read a comic that almost reflected my entire personality and many elements of my life.
Hanawalt’s latest comic is an autobiographical snapshot of her life, and is the first book EVER to help me understand horse girls. Her devotion to Juni, practically, but also through her art shines off the page. I love the illustration of the person riding a horse freely through the sky, it is very moving. I love her unashamed passion for horses.
This is also a very vulnerable comic and Hanawalt shares some difficult moments in her life. On an artistic note, it was very interesting to view how some of those moments were depicted vs others.
Overall this was a 5/5 read for me. Sorry for the messy review but I can’t really express how wonderful I thought this comic was!

Thanks to NetGalley for providing a review copy of this book in exchange for a fair review.

I Can't Stop Thinking About Horses and Sex is the latest auto bio comic by Lisa Hanawalt, and features some distinctive art and well observed moments. I felt that the comic could have been brought together with a few more thoughtfully coalesced themes or visual styles, but also get the impression that this very chop-and-changing approach is likely Hanawalt’s signature.

I usually love her stuff but this one just didn't do it for me. I didn't care about the horse stuff, and the sex stuff felt a little like oversharing at times. It was interesting getting an insider look at her and Adam Conover's relationship. Other than that, I didn't find it particularly relatable or funny. The full page illustrations were gorgeous though

This book is very horse centric, but there's so much more to it than that. The stories are told with humour, but Lisa is also very honest about her struggles. She talks about her experiences in a heartfelt and hilarious way that make you feel less alone in your own weirdness and obsessions.

I love Lisa's art style and her use of different mediums. Same as all of her other books, there are a few ideas and illustrations that will be forever burned into my mind 😳

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
