Her CIA bosses think she’s the bomb. Kitalia Ore is positive of that fact.
Okay, fine. Kitten MacLean. And they’re her parents, but it’s so much more fun to imagine them the other way around. And J.J., her MI6 contact? He’s in love with her. Doesn’t matter that her closest confidant, Jimmy Jones, hasn’t spoken a word to her since first grade.
Everyone at school adores her, too. Sure, they might not know it yet, but every single student at Rimtree High is her best friend. Naturally.
She’s just that incredible.
When a new girl—Kit’s choice for sidekick in her daily adventures—is being bullied, however, it’s time for Kit to take charge and leave her fantasy world of fearless bravado and easy victories behind. Can the “real” Kit use her make-believe practice to her advantage? The world outside her CIA missions is far different than she’s used to, and her usual happy-go lucky heart is about to take the beating of a lifetime. But Kit has never backed down from anything in her life and she’s not about to start now.
Time to find out what she’s really made of. Before the bad guys ruin everything.
I write a lot of paranormal books for someone who is afraid of the dark. And I wonder why I have to sleep with the lights on. Sometimes life is a teenaged B horror movie and I'm the one who investigates when the scary music is playing. But the voices are calling and resistance is… Yes. I am a Star Trek geek, too. And a fan of RPG’s. With a slight coolness factor since I've been told I'm allowed to join the pops.
This book confused me from the start and it was unclear until almost halfway through what was going on. Conflicting POVs annoyed me. Is she a spy or just a teenager living in a fantasy world? I don't want to put in spoilers here so I will just say this: while the premise is solid, the execution was less than perfect. I did enjoy the anti-bullying message and young women will find this a fun adventure.
It's 2 a.m. and I just finished "Girl Incredible"!!!!! Incredible indeed! Nothing was as important to me as finishing this book.. I just couldn't stop or let go of it! I love Kit! She's so amazing and courageous and a true inspiration of beauty and strength with a side of kick butt awesome! The storyline is fantastic and I think a lot of readers (myself included) can relate to it on some level! It really sheds light on cyber bullying and the pressures one might endure from others. I really love when I can fall in love with the character and feel a connection to them on a deeper level and the author made all of that possible! I love the writing style it made it easy to read with a great flow from one place to the next, the details are amazing (you really feel like your there and seeing it all in person) and as I said previously the characters.. not just Kit but the other characters as well they all have something amazing inside of them waiting to be discovered! fantastic book!
I received this book for an honest review. Patti Larsen has done it again! Kitten MacLean is a high school junior with a unique view on the world. Highly intelligent and sweet but lost in her own little dream world half the time where she's the butt-kicking, take names later, CIA operative Kitalia Ore! It's a fun world were people from her real life become alter egos too for instance her Mom and Dad are her CIA handlers M and D. Her hot MI6 counterpart JJ is her silent supporter Jimmy Jones in real life. In her fantasy world she always saves the day and in her real life everyone loves her and wants to be her best friend well at least she thinks they do. When her world is interrupted by a bully going after the new girl at school that she's decided to make her new BFF will Kit choose to look the other way or fight for what she knows is right?
Kit will steal your heart, her amazing view on the world and people in it are a breath of fresh air in our own all to cynical most of the time real world. She sees the good in everyone and sees adventure everywhere. This book is very much watching her grow up and realize the world isn't all sunshine and daisies. For me the best part is watching her accept this new view on the world while standing strong and refusing to let it change her. The "enemy" might fight dirty but she won't sink to that level. The way the author also takes this book about growing up as a chance to address very real issues teens today face with bullying, especially cyber bullying is inspiring. I think this book will open many people's eyes as well as hopefully give people the courage to come forward and fight back when they witness bullying. It may even help a few bullies to reform and see the error of their ways. I will admit this is definitely different then other books of Patti's that I've read and I think because of this I had trouble getting into it right away as I kept subconsciously comparing it to for instance the Hayle Coven books but once I let that go and just started reading I couldn't put it down. A book for young and old with a lesson for everyone I would highly recommend this book especially to those with teenagers I say read it with them!
Kitten MacLean is such an endearing character. Her corky behavior and eccentric clothing make her a target for snickers and ridicule but Kit doesn't let it get her down. She smiles and sees only the good in people even when most people would shy away and hide. She has such a wonderful imagination and has created an alter ego that allows her to keep her sunny disposition while being one tough cookie. I love that about her.
Her inner strength and kindness just touched my heart. I even cried when she had to face some very challenging situations and a bully that made me want to scream. I think what made her such a lovable character is that she was relatable. I know most people, myself included, have had to face some sort of bullying and it allows you to empathize with her and cheer her on as she faces the sometimes cruel world around her.
A great young adult story, very well written and definitely one that should be shared.
Evident by reading Girl Incredible, the main character Kit also known as Kitalia (Kit's alter ego / imagined self) has a future of storyline possibilities.
This book is different than Patti Larsen's Hayle Coven series. Yet her ability to weave a compelling story rich with intriguing characters and descriptive scenes so real, you are spell bound. Unable to put the book down until its completion.
In the beginning of this book it did take me a bit to realize when I was reading in Kit's reality, or had taken a journey where Kitalia made her presence known. But once I grasped the voice of the character, I was hooked. And the way Patti Larsen addressed cyber bullying in todays world, well, bravo Patti. . . well done!
Please note that I have received an ARC of Girl Incredible for my honest review.
I Enjoyed everything about this book there was nothing I didn't like about the book. I Like the setting, the writing style, the plot, the plot twists and the characters in the book were amazing.I would reread this again.
This is a hard review for me to do. In fact, it has been over a week that I have been warring with myself on whether to review it or not! I thought if I did do my review and mention the things that were bothering me, then maybe I could help others be prepared for the twists & turns that I did not see coming, nor did I EXPECT them! Had I been aware of it all, then maybe, no, FOR SURE I would have enjoyed this book further and it would have had a higher rating. First off, don’t be scared or turned off of this book without reading the rest of my review. Secondly, remember that this IS MY OPINION ONLY and DOES NOT reflect EVERYONE’S opinion! It is very well written, entertaining and funny…until it gets dark. It still is a great book but I also think it should be noted that this book does deal with bullying at a whole other level. The cover & blurb are a little deceptive as is the first half or so… Meaning that they match well together…until “That Part”…I know that I am more sensitive to this stuff, but I also know I am not the only one. Cyber, emotional, even physical bullying, date rape drug – which is not “explicitly” used for rape (there are a couple of the girls that I am thinking it did go that far, but it is not said or detailed, more implied which also means it is open to interpretation) it is used so that the bully can take blackmail pictures so that Bully can be in charge of them & further bully them, as well as forcing them to do anything that is desired…. I found that this book started off great with “Reality #1”, then switches to “Reality #2”. It takes a bit to get used to the switching back & forth but when I caught on to just exactly what was going on, I thought it was genius!!! I was a little amazed at just how quickly I got sucked into the story! I was equally surprised & shocked, if not more so, at just how rapidly this book shifted from a “fluffy” type of story to a deep dark mystery that I couldn’t put down! Until…it made me bawl and sick to my stomach that is! I wish that there was a disclaimer in the blurb to warn that there is bullying, the use of GHB, and that it is a darker subject dealt with, so if you are a sensitive reader, this may not be the book for you. I know for me, when I am warned about it, I am expecting it to be darker, disturbing or whatever the case may be, but then it doesn’t usually bother me as much. I have read a couple of books where the warning was NOT there and it shook me to my very core and I have not read anything by those authors again. On the flip side of that, I have also read books where the warning WAS there, and I was able to be prepared for it and “accept” it better, if that is the correct phrasing. I guess my point is that if I was given a heads up on the content of the story being darker, I think I would have actually been okay with it all and maybe even enjoyed the book more. All in all, if you are able to handle the content, then this is definitely a book you do not want to miss out on! It is very entertaining, well thought out, I loved how Kit ended up dealing with it and how things “ended”, but just be warned that the pink sparkly cover does not mean that everything is all pink & sparkly inside.
First off I have to say I love Patti Larsen. She has taken me places where I never knew I would go. Yes she has done it again with Kit . Kit is a spunky high school girl and she also is brilliant. When thing go wrong she goes to her fantasy world of Kitalia a CIA operative with a physic ability. When she stumbles upon a mystery at school . Will she come out of her fantasy world and not back down from the arch enemy. Well don't count Kit out she may surprise you .
I fell in love with Kit from the very first page. I think that she is a combination on a little bit of everyone. I know I connected with her on so many levels . She is a very bright girl and wants to be everything to everyone . To the point that she blocks out the fact that she was bullied and built up a dream world around it. Her character is brilliantly written. She takes on a life of her own. As she works her way through. The other cast of characters are brilliant. We have the bully that well honestly isn't the bully . The evil genius , which I actually felt sorry for cause well you always feel sorry for their upbringing. The best friend that hasn't actually talked to Kit since kindergarten. But deep down you know he really likes her but is too scared to say anything . They all will get into your heart and live there while you read this book. They will also stick with you afterwards.
I will tell you now that this book talks about bullying and trust me its on a grand scale . About half the school is being bullied. Patti takes us on an adventure through one girl's school year and the trials she goes through. This isn't your old school bullying that is being written about in this book, there is peer pressure to drink and there is the date rape drug in this book . Patti handles it all with a dignity. She doesn't skirt the issue but she writes it and gives it the credit it does deserve , because it is out there and it is in the school. Patti mixes the fantasy world of Kita and her real world together nicely. You do actual think she was a spy at the beginning
So if you want a book that is totally different then Patti's other books check out Girl Incredible. You wont be disappointed and I would gift this book to all my young nieces. Also to all my friends with preteen and teenage girls. So check it out
First I must preface this review by stating that I have read an eARC copy of "Girl Incredible" and have not ready the final released version. That being said, I think my review would remain the same had I read the final version.
I was very excited with the opening of the novel. There are not many female spy characters to fall in love with. But as the chapters went on and I realized that the "spy scenes" were merely fantasies of an 11th grader, I became disappointed. Mostly due to the abrupt changes in characters. One second she is Kit the HS student and the next sentence she was Katalia the spy. Made for very disjointed reading to say the least. But I trudged through it and as I got to the latter part of the book, the true nature of Kit and her story began to unfold. Unfortunately to discuss that more fully I will have to provide spoilers and I hate to do that so staying true to my reviews I will not spoil it for another reader. Let's just say that Kit's store touches on a socially prolific topic and at least for Kit, she found a way to overcome and conquer the situation.
I would highly recommend this for any pre-teen and young adult reader. But for us fans of the author, Ms. Patti Larsen, who are over a certain age (43 in my case), may want to take a pass on Kit.
patti Larsen is a very multi talented writer. Whatever she writes about is always very captivating and enjoyable, February 19, 2015 By grandbub (Montreal,Canada) This review is from: Girl Incredible (Kit MacLean Book 1) (Kindle Edition) I received this book as an arc for giving my honest opinion. It is a well written book, and Patti Larsen in her inimitable ways jumps right into the life of Kitty Maclean and her alter ego Kitalia, CIA agent. this is the way our main character deals with being bullied by creating a character who does not fear anything and everyone admires. the truth is she is a grade 11 young girl who really does not see life as it really is and only later realizes that people are not always good as she may want to believe. She however wants to help people and does so when she understands what is really happening. I was amazed at how naive she was at times but knowing what she went through when she was younger I realized she was blocking her feelings and did not want to see things as they really were. a good book for teens who are dealing with bullying. a very good ending. Kit is a very likable. I enjoy reading Patti Larsen's books and look forward to reading more
As with all of Patti Larsens books, the writing is wonderfuI did receive an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest reviewl ~ crisp, well paced, and compels you to keep reading past the point of your eyes protesting being propped open, when they really want to flutter shut for the night!
However, it took a large chunk (roughly 30%) of the book to get a real feel for the story as the flips between Kit & Kitalia were sometimes unclear and lead to a fair amount of confusion.**
I struggled a bit with the rating for Girl Incredible, and took a few days before writing this because of the aforementioned struggle to suss out what was happening, however, I genuinely enjoyed it! The story is terrific, the characters are wonderfully written, and I love the way our Girl Incredible dealt with the villains of the story. Smart girls for the win!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
** The lack of clarity may have been a result of formatting in the ARC provided.
I have had many books in my life that have inspired me, but today I can honestly say that no other book such as Girl Incredible has inspired and touched me in a way I have never felt with a book. For once in my life, there is a character in which I can relate to on so many levels. And that is all thanks to Patti Larsen and her incredible girl, Kit Maclean.
By day, Kit is just an (very smart) ordinary junior in high school, by night a psychic CIA agent named Kitalia Ore. Or at least that is what it is to Kit when she ventures off to her own world when things seem to get rough for her. Having Kitalia in Kit's life gives her the courage she needs to get through her life. Then one day all of that changes and when she finds herself bullied, her courage and self esteem will be tested.
Girl Incredible is perfect for those who are dealing with bullies, even for those who aren't. Patti Larsen has created a story to show us all that we all have a little Kitalia in us, we just need to find her and let her free.
Kitten MacLean loves living in her fantasy world. It is her escape where she can be the person she would really like to be, Kitalia. Kitalia fears nothing and is a strong psychic that can help save the world. Kitalia is based on her favorite book character Grace Grant a super teen detective. Kitten is starting her new school year in 11th grade and is excited to get back to school. What she hasn’t counted on is running right into the path of the school bully. Dealing with bullying is not easy. I love the way Patti Larsen has taken the bullying problem and placed it into a novel exploring it with the story’s characters. Kitten has to take a look into her real self and her fantasy self and she might find that to face down a bully it takes becoming a Girl Incredible.
I received the ARC copy for an honest review and i just have to say that this is the first book from Patti Larsen that i have read and will probably look for her other books to be included in my TBR list.
It took me awhile to realize that Kitalia is Kit's fantasy self. There are a couple of moments when the transitions from Kit to Kitalia is confusing but i like the storyline as this is happening in reality & people needs to be aware of either cyber bullying or the real life bullying that happens not just in schools but in some company's as well. I love it when Kit stepped up, helped give confidence to her fellow schoolmates that are being bullied and was brave enough to let her parents know of the situation and for coming up with the solution to end the bullying. This book is a must read for all teens our there, this might give them some inspiration if they are experiencing the same.
Kit MacLean is a junior in high school genius. She is funny and always wants to be friends with everyone. When she notices the new girl is falling in with the wrong crowd, she needs to help. She uncovers so much more than the naked eye can see. The only thing that I wasn't fond of was not being able to tell when it was her or her alter egos story. I had to re read a few sections a few times to make sure that I knew what was going on. I love her and her alter ego. I loved how she stood up to the bully and saved all these people from having a horrible life. I know how hard it is to stand up to a bully and know what it is like to be bullied. This book is definitely something that needs to be read by girls in highschool. Sometimes there isn't always some one there to stand up to the Bully. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Patti Larsen is a wonderful author, and this book was as entertaining as the 20+ books by her I've read so far. The main character(s) of this book are engaging and witty, and strong and self-assured, and as you slowly begin to comprehend what is actually going on in their lives, you love them even more and wish you could pull them through the book and give hugs all around! This book slowly builds and keeps you guessing and wondering as you turn each page. Ms. Larsen did a wonderful job keeping intrigue and suspense from beginning to end. As an older reader, I did feel this book was geared toward a younger audience compared to other books I've read by this author, but it was still a fun and emotional read.
I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review.
Kit is my new favorite heroine!! This 'Girl Incredible' is truly "Incredible". A junior in high school, Kit Maclean takes you through the joys (and heartbreaks) of modern day high school experiences. Kit's imagination runs wild (influenced by a series of books her sister got her hooked on at a younger age), when it comes to problem solving, so when Kit sees a new girl at school being bullied, she decides to try to become her friend. Patti Larsen weaves this tale beautifully, and really brings the topic of bullying and cyber bullying to the forefront. Teenagers and adults alike should read this book! Thank You Patti, for tackling this subject like a boss.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. This book was very different from what I expected and took me a while to get into it but once I did I really enjoyed it. Bullying is such a problem in our society and this book talks to that by showing that by stepping in when someone is bullying someone else is the right thing to do and you should even consider yourself a "superhero" since it is the right thing to do. Kit has quite the different perspective of her world and in dealing with the challenges in it. I think that this book would be great for those children dealing with some bullying issues to help them through it.
I honestly wasn't sure about this book when I started reading it. Much, much different from Ms. Larsen's books that I've read prior to this one. However, knowing how much I have loved each of her stories, I persevered and was so happy I did. That part of this story is purely the main character's imagination took me aback at first but it works so well for telling her tale and understanding her better. I enjoyed this book but I think Ms. Larsen's Syd will always be my favorite of her characters.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I LOVED this book. I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I started but I love Patti Larsen and her creativity, that I knew this would be great.
This was a very empowering story, one not to take lightly..one to see all of it and what bullying can do to people.
I loved getting to know Kit and her alter ego. The way Patti intertwined the two was incredible and flowed so well. Her writing style captures your imagination and throws you right in the story fighting next to Kit! Rooting for Kit!
I really, really liked this book that deals with bullying on a grand scale. I also loved Kit's mental alert ego, Kitalia. She was as fun and interesting as Kit was. The storyline was interesting, and for the most part true to life. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, which while good, seemed a bit overblown. I would recommend this book to teens and even young adults. It is interesting, fun and a relatively quick read.
* I received a copy of this book in return for my honest and frank review *
Did not quite know what to make of this story when I started reading it- however the story pulled me in and I finished it in an evening!!! I liked Kit's optimism but I did want to shake her and tell her to wise up a few times!! The flow of the story between her actual life and her alternate life worked seamlessly and was really well written.I loved her solution to the problem in the end!! I might add that I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Kit is certainly a different character for Patti. But thats not a bad thing. Kit/Kitalia is very well-developed, quirky and easy to like. The blend of reality and fantasy is smooth and integral to the storyline. Tackling the topic of bullying is so timely in today's world. So glad to have a new series to read as we wait for Sydlynn Hayle's return.
I was fortunate to receive an ARC copy for my honest review.
I was lucky enough to have an advance copy of GIRL INCREDIBLE, and have just this minute finished it. Amazing. So good. An empowering read in this age of cyber-shaming. I love Patti Larsen's mind and I really don't want to wait to see what Kit MacLean does next. Luckily this is Patti Larsen we're talking about there, and I know I won't have to wait long.
I hate doing 5 stars for every one of Patti Larsens books but I can't help it! They don't show more stars! I love Kit, she is incredible, and I really liked the other characters too. Kit is so different and everything she did surprised me. Wow! I received a copy of GIRL INCREDIBLE from the author for an honest review.
Patti Larsen has done it again. Kit is a remarkable girl and offers readers a glimpse into what goes on in high schools around the world. Kit's attitude is wonderful and really love her take on life. She never lets anything get her down for long and she never lets anything keep her down. A must read for anyone with teenagers and anyone who loves a good read.
Fabulous read, absolutely loved Kit's rose tinted view at times and all her own story telling with not just her alter ego Kitalia but the fact Kitalia's bosses M and D were alter egos for her parents, a story within a story. Not at all what I was expecting after reading all the Hayle Coven series followed by Run, but I loved every minute and couldn't put it down.
Although this book is different to Patti's other books it was a huge success for me. I couldnt put it down and I am now awaiting another Kit / Kitalia book. The twists and turns of the book left me guessing and thinking where this would end up. Another triumph Patti keep on writing more about Kit please
Loved this story... it was painful in parts b/c it was real, but empowering overall. I loved that the characters were well rounded and authentic - no comic strip bad guys! This would be a great read for anyone, but especially girls in the 10-15 range who are entering into this potential high school environment. N
