Two unforeseen moments in time— One brings them together, the other is a danger so real it could tear them apart.
Antoinette ‘Toni’ Grimaldi prefers to keep out of the spotlight, blend in with the crowd and experience life the same as the bulk of the population. Being a mining magnate’s daughter is a difficult persona for her to uphold. She just doesn’t fit in with high society standards, always managing to say something inappropriate or trip over her own feet at the worst possible moment, resulting in that look of disappointment and embarrassment her parents inevitably wear whenever she’s around. Meeting a handsome stranger who comes to her rescue and asks her out on a date is so much more than Toni could have ever hoped for on her dream holiday—one she is surprised her parents have even permitted her to take alone. Her fairy-tale moment is short-lived, though, when Toni discovers the stranger has been hired by her family to follow her every move—under the guise of keeping her safe.
Jason finds he is drawn to Antoinette. She is nothing at all like the socialite he was expecting to shadow around London’s nightclubs. After an awkward first meeting, he convinces Toni that there is more to his interest in her than just as her bodyguard. To his surprise, his attraction for the soft-spoken, thoughtful woman grows, despite his usual reluctance to commit to any kind of relationship.
Then a disaster at one of the family-owned mines and a string of death threats force Toni to return home, and her need for a bodyguard becomes a life and death reality.
Born and bred in the inner western suburbs of Sydney - Donna Gallagher decided at an early age that life needed be tackled head on. Leaving home at 15 she supported herself through her teen years.
In her twenties she married a professional sportsman, her love of sport -- especially rugby league -- probably overriding her good sense.
The seven-year marriage was an adventure. There were the emotional ups and downs of having a husband with a public profile in a sometimes glamorous but always high-pressure field.
There were always interesting characters to meet and observe and even the opportunity to live for a time in the UK.
Eventually Donna returned home a single woman, but she never lost her passion for watching sport, as well as the people in and around it.
Now happily re-married and with three sons Donna loves coffee mornings with her female friends, sorting through problems from the personal to the international. But she's on even footing with the keenest man when it comes to watching and talking rugby league.
Donna considers herself something of a black sheep in a family of high achievers. Her brother has a doctorate in mathematics and her sister is a well-known sports journalist.
An avid reader, especially of romance, Donna finally found she couldn't stop the characters residing in her imagination from spilling onto paper. Naturally rugby league is the backdrop to her spicy 'League of Love Series' available through UK publisher Totally Bound, tales of hunky heroes and spunky heroines overcoming adversity to eventually find true love. In 2015 Donna is spreading her genre wings with the release of her new romantic suspense Haven Security series and a contemporary erotic novella A Fruitful Intimacy.

The Players: Toni Grimaldi and Jason Beck
The Story: Toni Grimaldi is vacationing in London, alone, something she thought her rich and prominent parents would never allow. One after while eating an ice cream cone, the unthinkable happens and one Jason Beck enters her life. He's cute, charming and clearly a knight in shining armor when he offers her his help and company on her way back to her hotel.
Toni is instantly attracted to him, but feels that it will never go anywhere as she's not the tall, slim, svelte her socialite parents want her to be so if they can't accept her, why would any man, especially a man who looks like Jason.
When she finds out that Jason is really working for her father to keep her safe, Toni is embarrassed. Gone is her fantasy that a man would like her for herself, she now truly knows that the only reason Jason even spoke to her is because he's being paid to look out for her and to keep her safe. Jason wants Toni and feels he's undeserving as he is not of her same social class.
As Toni and Jason get to know each other away from their world back in Australia, each admit to themselves that they have feelings that are far deeper than just two people having a vacation fling.
What didn't work for me was the plot point of Toni having an issue with Jason being hired to watch her without her knowledge while on vacation. She's so upset at this -- and she found out less than two hours after first meeting Jason -- yet she agrees to spend time with him during the rest of her vacation. To me, if she was truly upset, she would have created a little distance between them and called her father to blow a gasket.
I also thought the scenes with Hannah (spoiler so I'm not going to go into it here) could have been omitted. By that point, we knew that Toni and Jason loved each other and to me didn't add much to the story.
What worked: The time the author took giving them a story. Yes, there was mind blowing sex from beginning to end, the author showed us Toni and Jason getting to know each other and the deepening feelings they have for the other. Each's insercuties and inner dialogue only furthered my delight in this book.
I'd just finished the book Donna Gallagher had previously released when an offer to review An Opportunity Seized popped up. Knowing I'd enjoy her easy, conversational style of storytelling (and having read the story's excerpt in the other book), I agreed to read it and wasn't disappointed in the least.
Haven Security may have their easiest client to protect, and at the same time, their stickiest assignment ever. Toni Grimaldi hates her role as heiress and travels the regular way throughout her tour of London. That means she sticks to herself, goes to all the touristy spots, and has a peaceful, quiet time.
This is astonishing for Jason, who had a preconceived notion of what heiresses do during their time off abroad. Toni does the complete opposite, which is a pleasant shock for him, not to mention the natural Rubenesque beauty she has - which she is completely unaware of. The shock turns into a big surprise when Jason saves his target from a diabolical bird and falls for her.
Their time together is a fantasy while on vacation but will their feelings survive the real world? And can Jason be focused enough to keep Toni safe despite her natural inclination to rebel against authority?
Despite the talk-on-the-sofa tone of the entire novel, the suspense originating from the accident at the Grimaldi line adds spice to a sweet love story of a man who grew up disillusioned with love and a woman who finally allows herself to grow up. Jason's job as her bodyguard suddenly becomes necessary when her life comes under scrutiny and is exposed to danger after an incident that costs lives. Such is the stuff of a good gossip hour with friends, right?
I've come to expect as much from Donna Gallagher's work, and will look forward to more of the same good feeling with whatever she releases after An Opportunity Seized. Needless to say, I will be waiting impatiently!
Today was supposed to have been a productive day at our house. I had big plans to clean bathrooms and straighten up. I was doing pretty well with my plan until I decided to take a break and start An Opportunity Seized. I almost immediately developed a little crush on Toni and Jason and couldn’t stop spending time with them and their adventures.
Toni is a wealthy young woman thanks to her father’s business, but as we get to know her we discover that the money doesn’t mean that much to her and that she is really pretty normal and down to Earth. Jason is the former soldier/security expert assigned to protect her from a distance while she vacations alone in London. Their very first interaction takes place when Jason breaks the rules to “rescue” Toni after a goose poops on her hair and shirt.
Toni and Jason are both very likeable characters and the way the author uses their internal dialogue to give us a clue to their real thoughts and feelings helps make them relatable. When an incident back in Australia forces Toni to end her trip early and Jason accompanies her home, you can’t help but root for them to figure things out.
We learn early on that Toni has self-esteem issues because of how she sees her relationship with her parents. Seeing how her time on vacation with Jason impacts her view of herself and her relationships is a nice sub plot to the story. There are times when the interactions between Toni and her parents seem forced and not realistic, but it is a small portion of the book.
An Opportunity Seized was a fun read, definitely worth almost having a kiddo late to preschool and a bathroom not getting cleaned.
I wanted to love this book.. I did.. There was so much promise from the synopsis, but it just didn't work for me. I really think the insta love had a big part to do with it. Along with the fact that we really didn't get to know the characters (their past, their history... well, not much anyway outside of his job experience and that she's an heiress).
For most of the book I felt like she acted like a teenager who paid attention to no one but herself, but then she didn't have much of a life so it didn't really make much sense. She felt flat and one dimensional most of the time.
While he was a bit easier for me to connect with, I felt like his character didn't fit at time. Like how could a well trainer person completely fall apart like he did at the first hint of any danger. Regardless of emotions being involved, I have a hard time seeing it.
Then there was the whole family thing. She says they treated her one way, then we find out it was completely different with barely an explanation of what happened (basically she grew up). Not to mention the 'threat' that was hanging in the air for the last part of the book that really... didn't feel all that threatening.
I guess, I have to say that it would've all been easier for me to get into if there'd been more showing instead of telling (like 90% of their time together was recaps from one character or another).
Although the one saving grace of the book was that there was an interesting plot line there and the characters did display some growth (although I'll say that to completely change from a few bouts of randiness was, again, hard to believe as she was a full grown woman).

I’m one of those people that can have a difficult time falling in love with an author’s new set of characters, when I’m already fully vested in previous world they’ve created. I thought that might be the case with An Opportunity Seized, as I’d read (and loved!) many of the League of Love books by Donna Gallagher, but nothing could be further from the truth. I was instantly smitten by Antoinette “Toni” Grimaldi. There was something so pure about her butterfly-like transformation from a sheltered school teacher to philanthropist, I found myself smiling multiple times throughout the book. She grew up a lot in a short time and learned not to judge so harshly what she really didn’t understand.
Jason was the quintessential alpha personality type. While he was handsome, and often used that to his advantage, he also had an underlying personal set of ethics that I found very attractive. He knew he shouldn’t be involving himself personally with his assignment, but was so enamored of Toni that he couldn’t resist. There’s something to be said with risking it all for love – the romantic in me sighed every time he stood his ground for his woman.
There was quite a bit going on in this story. While most of the plot was dedicated to Toni and Jason’s developing relationship, there was a nice bit of conflict and some secondary characters that piqued my interest as well. I’m not sure how I feel about Toni’s parents – I just can’t quite grasp what they’re all about – but Nate Haven is someone I look forward to learning more about. An Opportunity Seized is strong start to the Haven Security series, and one that I would recommend to readers who like the ex-military trope.
In this story Antoinette (Toni) Grimaldi is on holiday in London. Her family is very wealthy. She does not like to be in the spotlight and feels awkward in high society standards. She feels like she is a disappointment to her parents. She wants to go on a getaway to London by herself and to her surprise her parents let her. She is doing all the tourist sight seeing. What she does not know is that her parents hired a man to watch her and keep her safe. Jason is a ex soldier and now does security work for Haven Security. He is just suppose to follow her at distant and not make contact with her. As the the days go on he wants more than anything to interact with her but that would break protacol. He sees that she was just pooped on by a goose and wants to help her. Him being the gentleman he is gives her his extra shirt. They hit it off and he wants to spend more time with her. The remaining days of her holiday they spend together. Toni gets a call that her parents need her to return home because of mining accident. Her father is being blamed for it and there has been threats against his family. Jason wants to protect her from any danger but that will mean he must come clean with his boss that he broke the rules. They both hope there romance will continue when they get back home.
I enjoyed reading this story. It was very well written and made you want to keep turning the page to see what happens next. I loved the humor, suspense and the interaction between Toni and Jason. They learn a lot about themselves in the process. I am excited to read the next book in this series.
I received an Arc from Jo&Isalovesbooks review team for an honest review.
I received this book from Sparkle Book Tours in return for a fair and honest review.
Toni is the daughter of an incredibly rich man in Australia and has therefore always felt like she has fallen short of the mark and will never live up to her parents' expectations. Her mum is slim and expects Toni to be the same, even though she has inherited her father's genes in the weight department. Jason is the military man who doesn't have oodles of money to his name but instead oozes sex appeal and Toni finds him irresistible.
I really wanted to like this book more than I actually did. I am loving the Romantic Suspense genre at the moment but something in this book just didn't work for me... and I'm at a loss to explain what it is. Perhaps it's the quickness of their relationship, perhaps it is how the relationship with her parents turns on its head within moments with no real explanation of why she was treated the way she thought she was in the past. The other thing could be that I never really felt that danger was present for Toni. The whole suspense issue, indeed most of the issues in the book, seemed to be resolved too quickly, too easily and all tied together with a neat bow.
The writing of this book is very well done and the plot flows at a steady pace. This is a light book to read when you don't want to have to think too deeply about anything.
This is one of those stories that will grab you from the first page and have you turning the pages as Antoinette Toni Grimaldi a mining magnate's daughter who has never become a socialite like her parents wanted her to is travelling on a holiday in England on her own much to her shock that her parents let her go has an unfortunate accident and is rescued by a handsome man Jason Beck the sparks fly instantly and this starts a journey that is hot passionate and heart warming as Jason reveals his reason for being in England. Toni is a shy person and Jason who works for Haven Security is not the settling down kind of guy love em and leave his motto that is until he meets Toni they have a lot in common and Toni throws away her shyness with Jason as they have a hot affair that brings them closer together and when Toni is threatened Jason realizes that he loves her and always wants to protect her Toni is over the moon but she has become a lot stronger person with the help of Jason and their HEA will have you smiling. This is a great story that I loved and highly recommend it.
I can’t hide the fact that I loved this story I finished it in a day.
Toni’s whole world is turned upside down when she has a freaky encounter with nature while on holiday. Toni meets Jason who ends up to be the man of her dreams. Jason was originally hired to keep an eye Toni safety while she was alone on Vacation but with the freaky accident their worlds collide and what could of potentially kept them apart was the start of a hot Romance. Toni realized she was a lot stronger then she gave herself credit for and Jason found that he could love one person. Toni also finds through her relationship that she not a disappointment to her parents and she has role in their lives and business. Donna thanks for another great adventure, I enjoyed my time with Toni and Jason and look forward the next book to come in this series.

Toni is from a very wealthy Australian family, she feels she doesn't fit in and goes off on holiday on her own to find herself. Here she ends up meeting the man that is sent as her secret bodyguard and sparks really fly. Can Toni form and continue a relationship with a man worlds apart from her. Will her family allow her to be with a security guard ?
A lovely romantic story, with good chemistry and some hot steamy scenes. I was hooked from the beginning and didn't get bored at all and read it in one session. I liked the characters especially Jason Beck! I really liked the story but felt just a little something was missing to make me love it !
I received An Opportunity Seized by Donna Gallagher for an honest review. This is the first book that I have read by this author and am so happy to be introduced to a new author that I can enjoy. I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the books in this series and the others that she has written. Toni grew so much in this book. She was a soft-spoken kindergarten teacher who showed how truly strong she was when tragedy strikes. Jason is the ultimate over-protective alpha who will do whatever it takes to protect the one he loves. I truly loved this book and would recommend this book to all who are looking for a great romantic read.
Sometimes I will start reading a book without really knowing what it’s about. Yes, I have too many books, so I can honestly pick one up (or open my Nook) and not know what I’m going to be reading about. I have never read anything by Donna Gallagher so I had no idea what to expect, and since it was an e-book, I couldn’t exactly read the back cover. I wanted to really like this book. It was a short-ish story labeled as erotica that had some steamy moments.
It was a quick read for me. The begining was a lot more fast paced than the ending. The ending was slow... felt like the plot was stretched thin toward the end. The steamy, passionate sex and the love the main characters had came out clear.
I didn't like this book. It was very predictable and dry. The writing was hard to follow in spots, where there were no easy segues between scenes or chapters. It was disjointed and hard to follow. It leads up to a dangerous situation that is anticlimactic and clunky. With some editing and rewriting, this could be a great story.
