Thrilling from start to finish

A dead body in a burnt out building. A suicide in a Spanish Villa. And DI Jake Sawyer trying to pull together the threads on an investigation that could be far more than he can handle.

Dark, twisting, smart and full of action.

I'm delighted to see that Jake is back. It seems like it's been forever but it was worth the wait. In his consulting type role, he is brought in when a dead body is found in a burning building and it seems the dead man was bound before the fire started. This all ties in with some underworld activities and a man out for revenge for his younger sister.

At the same time, Jake looks into the death of an old friend and is not convinced he took his own life. Some characters, shady or otherwise, are keeping tabs on his investigation. Curiouser and curiouser.

This was a breath-taking read. It's violent, it's gripping, it's intense throughout and just when you think Jake can't pull off another shock, he goes and does so. I loved the ending with certain things tied up yet some threads left to keep pulling on. I can't wait to see what lies in store next.

😵‍💫Not at all what I expected.

Jack Sawyer was observing his surroundings, and more specifically, the beginning of an altercation between two people.

He couldn't help but intervene verbally to defend the victim...

****

This is the first novel by this author that I've read, and I was the first to be surprised at how much I struggled to follow the words of this detective story.

Unlike the vast majority of readers of this volume, I couldn't get used to the author's detailed and descriptive writing style, which made me constantly lose track of the story.

I'm sincerely sorry, but this isn't the book for me.

I just couldn't get into it at all, and I completely missed the point of this detective story.

It felt endless to read...

It's a shame; I would have liked to enjoy it.

Can't get enough of this series. It was such a surprise to see a new story coming out and I devoured it in days. Now I need to wait another year (probably) for the next one. Very interested to see where the journey takes Jake next after his shock decision at the end.

Excellent writing, as always, great characters (good and bad), dark and gritty, with splashes of humour. Just an all round excellent crime thriller.

If you haven't read or even heard of this series, I would highly recommend it.

Jake is trying to lead a calmer life and leaving the past and all violence behind him but he is not successful as his friend dies and he starts to investigate. All hell will break loose as he finds the leads that will indicate corruption through the force, a human trafficking ring and thugs that will not spare resources to see him dead. Blood Never Sleeps is a fast-paced, full of action and entertaining story.
I thank Mr. Lowe for this ARC.

Another brilliant addition to the Jake Sawyer series. A lot of new characters appear early but their positions all fall into place as the story progresses. It’s a complex read, just as the main character is complex. The ending gives me some hope that Jake will return.
